For years, the Jewish Cultural Festivals sold breads and sweets made at Evans Bakery by Temple Israel volunteers.

I shed more than a few tears when Bill told me that Evans Bakery would no longer be a fixture in Old North Dayton. I will miss his dinner rolls and strawberry cream cake the most. However, I will miss Bill's baking classes and professional baking wisdom more than the sweets. Kudos to Jennifer Evans for taking on the business and making people happy for sooo many years! I wish her all the best. And best wishes to Bill, whose servant leadership and passion for helping people led to the creation of some of the most successful nonprofits in the Dayton area. May your light continue to shine. Thank you, Bill, Rosemary, Jennifer, and the entire Evans Bakery family.

Small mom and pop shop. Parking can be a little challenging. Otherwise, the bakery has a little of everything, all of which looked very traditional. The staff was very accommodating, even offering to make a blackberry filled donut on the spot. (Thus it is no Dunkin' Donuts, thankfully. ) My first bite was like being transported back to grandma's kitchen. Definitely with the stop. Why not 5 stars, if the fillings were homemade this place would be a wonder of the world.

The best donuts I have EVER had.

I adore this bakery. Not only are the donuts THE BEST I have ever tasted, but the bakery itself is wonderful. My mother ordered pies and I do not like pie. HOWEVER I LOVED the sweet potato pie. It's the absolute BEST. Next bread. Again, my mom decided she wanted Milk bread. Never heard of it? Me neither. I go to Jennifer, the owner, and she just whips out the recipe. Not only that, she asked for feedback to make it better (it was perfect the way it was). Then today as I get my donuts, I see bread samples. It's her newest bread to try. It was HEAVENLY. And lastly, I bought donuts once and they did not taste like normal. So I call the shop and Jennifer answers. I talk with her and told her I didn't really like what was done. No problem. She let me know she was stretching mix til her new shipment and that her donuts would not change. THEN she said she would give me a free dozen since I wasn't happy. I forgot about the free but I remembered the mix part. Next time I'm there I made the inquiry if the mix was the same. Jennifer REMEMBERED and gave me a free dozen donuts. BEST PLACE EVER!

Since, I moved to Ohio, I was worried on not finding the food places I enjoy. When I looked up this place for donuts, the reviews people wrote about Evans, weren't kidding. I felt comfortable knowing that the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about donuts, cakes, and breads. Their apricot danish brought me back home and the orange cream filled donut made my morning with a hot cup of coffee ^_^

Delicious cookies and donuts in Old North Dayton. I sampled them at the National Night Out.

We took a quick trip from columbus to Dayton and were instantly impressed. This is definitely a cafe that loves its city and features many locally made wares. We got the garlic cream cheese danish, the Kellie pie danish, the orange monkey bread, and the buttered croissant. My only problem was that the croissant was covered in a brushing of sugar syrup and it would have been nice for it to just be a butter croissant. It was still delicious and perfectly fine just wish it would have been named more appropriately:) Staff are efficient but kind as there is always a line out the door. We were lucky to still grab some seats inside on a hot day; however, there is well shaded seating outside as well. 4 pastries are a lot for 2 people so we could not try any more. We can't wait to go back!!!!

They have some really interesting pastries and also the more typical ones. It's on the high $ side. In my opinion it's a treat, a special event kind of place. This is not a get a dozen for the kids ball game kind of spot. Again, just my opinion. I hope to return when I can sit and linger.

After I chose a seat, they brought out my breakfast croissant on a paper plate. I wish the cheese was melted, but the sandwich was really good. The croissant was impressive-it tasted like I was back in Paris. It just felt like I was in my hotel lobby having breakfast with all the paper products. I opted for an assortment of to go pastries to try--almond croissant, lemon blueberry scone, and coffee cake. They were all pretty delicious, except the scone. The coffee cake was the best. However, Ginger got back to me and described what they'll do and it was above and beyond what I expected! I went with the strawberry swirl 7" triple layer cake for $42.99. Both emailing and in person, the service was amazing. My husband absolutely loved the cake and we both loved the taste too. We would definitely recommend!

I don't really care for sweets (I even recycle Halloween candy from year to year!), but I dream of Ele's white cake with butter cream frosting. Last week I threw a party - I ordered the cake online on Wednesday for a Saturday pickup. The website is really easy to navigate and allows you to customize your cake. As this was a landmark birthday party, we wanted all black and gray frosting - weird, I know, but it came out perfectly (and was actually very pretty). I arrived on Saturday an hour before I had stated in my order, the cake was ready, and since you can pay online too, I was in and out in 90 seconds. Now, at the end of a grown-up birthday party, you're usually putting the extra cake back in the box and counting the days until the frosting is hard enough to throw the leftovers away and you don't have to feel like you're wasting food. Or is that just me? Regardless, at the end of this party, there wasn't a crumb left (anticipating this, I had already put a generous sized slice in tupperware during the Passing of the Cake Plates cake-cutting ritual - heheheh). I once drove through a massive snowstorm to get one of their cakes (for a party being thrown for me, in fact), because, although the roads were treacherous, they were open for business, my friends are apparently timid drivers, and the cake really is THAT good.
