Baker's is the place to go if you have a classic 1961-1969 Lincoln Continental. They also service other Lincolns up through 2002. Steve has an encyclopedic knowledge of the cars and a clear passion for them and his work. Tom, Justin, Wanda and the rest of his team are similarly expert, helpful and pleasant. They ship parts worldwide. Their specialization is so concentrated that they have developed tests and custom equipment to check on and rebuild various components. If you're within driving distance or can transport your car to the northeast corner of Connecticut (a pretty drive if you're in the region), what you'll get is the diagnostic accuracy that comes from decades of servicing one marque of classic car again and again. They've seen it all, repaired it all, will advise on what makes sense, what doesn't, and triage your list of projects. The evaluation of my car was quite complete, Steve took the time to explain the options to me, they tracked down one obscure noise, and performed work the result of which was an engine that purred like a kitten. One of the most interesting aspects of the experience was hearing Steve's perspective on the engineering choices that went into the car. He clearly has thought through how and why certain things were designed certain ways, and has a lot of respect for that engineering. Some people like to "resto-mod" their cars. He has some cautionary tales about how modernizing one element may put unplanned-for stresses on others. He clearly favors having original systems working as designed, and switching to updated approaches with caution and a clear sense of trade-offs. I am A collector but new to the world of Lincoln. Baker's was well worth the trip. The vent windows were not lining up with the regular windows as they roll down... These are the electric windows which work in tandem. Steve took the time to explain exactly what was needed and importantly -- what was not needed; Tom did the work and not only got the windows to perform silently but matched them up perfectly with the weather stripping. No more wind whistling no more water seepage. Several other items were addressed at the same time and the Continental is now in great shape for another couple of thousand miles. And not only was the work done well and with complete explanation, the impromptu tour of the shop was really something. If they don't have the part you need in their inventory, you probably aren't going to find it. All in all, a very fine experience for this seasoned collector of all types of automobiles. read more

So, I finally decide my classic Lincoln needs to be finished properly. There was a piece of chrome trim I would need to complete it. Bakers Auto had the part at a reasonable price. I ordered it; it arrived. After making sure it was the part I needed, I put it away, safely, so it would be ready when my car's body work and paint was done. Months later, when the time came, I opened the package fully to reveal a part that had been bent somewhere, somehow, but probably unnoticed because it was inside plastic packaging. I contacted Bakers Auto to see what could be done. The process took a few weeks for them to let me know that, first, the part was surely fine when it left them and no, there were no other pieces in stock. Done. No offering a refund. No partial refund. No we'll-keep-our-eyes-open-for-another-one. No Sorry. No redemption.. So I spent a few hundred dollars on a piece of trim I cannot use and I learned a lesson.
