Stopped in after touring the town and got lunch. I expected the food to be better, but I was a bit disappointed. I liked the caesar salad but there was far too much dressing on it which just overpowered the salad. I also got a side of mac and cheese that I was really excited about, however it was clearly reheated because it was a tad dry, and lacking in flavor. The service was great though and the rolls they put at the table are dangerously delicious. They seem to do breakfast better than lunch so I'd recommend getting something from the left side of the menu instead. read more

After seeing the reviews online we decided to walk on down! The credit card machine was down but no big deal they let us know before which was nice! The inside is really cute and quaint. The coffee was delicious and the food was pretty good! I gave it four stars not because there was something wrong but because it wasn't spectacular food but it was tasty and well priced. I've only eaten at this restaurant once for breakfast . It's breakfast , not hard to do honestly . Since the owner is not requiring employees or customers to wear masks or social distance to protect against the virus I won't be ever going there . Many of us in the community are taking note of the businesses who are following guidelines and those are the businesses we will support long term . read more

We've been to this restaurant before and have enjoyed it and went back because we really liked the bacon. When we got our food my husband's Cottage potatoes were lukewarm and his bacon was not as good as it had been in the past. I had the vegetable platter - potatoes were cold and the mac and cheese was not warm. The sweet potato casserole was just okay. The green beans were the only thing that was hot. I know we could have sent it back but our waitress didn't really come and ask us how things were until it was later so we just decided to put up with it. I'm surprised that they don't keep the food warmer and the health department doesn't get after that. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by the young lady at the visitor center. It was our first visit to New Bern and we were hungry :). Our waiter, Rick, was friendly and efficient and gave us the impression he truly likes his job. That's rare to find these days! Although it was closer to lunch time, we were in the mood for breakfast. I ordered the hungry farmer breakfast and my husband ordered the Bun and Sum, (I think that's the name). Anyway, he had one of their delicious cinnamon rolls, two over easy eggs and sausage, while Ms. Piggly Wiggly (that would be me), had two slices of french toast, two sausage links, scrambled eggs and Dutch potatoes. Told you I was hungry :). What can I say except everything was delish! Well, maybe not EVERYTHING. The eggs were slightly over cooked for my liking, but admittedly I like them on the softer side so I'm not taking away any stars for that. The French toast was firm on the outside and soft on the inside with just the right amount of cinnamon, the sausage links were some of the best I've ever had and don't even get me started on those potatoes! A real party in your mouth for sure. We will be returning to New Bern and when we do, hellooooo cinnamon rolls and Dutch potatoes! I'm comin' to get ya'. read more

Just finished up breakfast at Bakers Kitchen with my mom and sister. The restaurant is cute inside, with an upstairs dining room, which is where we were sat. My real issue with the Bakers Kitchen isn't the food, which was tasty enough. The real problem was our waitress trying to steal our change from us. Bill was $39, we put $50 on the table to get some change for tip. Our waitress only returned $5 and when we waved her back over and asked about the last $5, she stumbled over her words, pulled the $5 out of her pocked, and spewed a story about how she found the $5 on the counter by the till and "was wondering if it belonged to us." If she found the money and was wondering if it belonged to us like she said, why didn't she walk it right back over to us instead of waiting for us to wave her down? If it didn't belong to us, pocketing a random $5 seems like she might be trying to steal from her boss. Left a real sour taste in my mouth after a pretty good breakfast. We won't be returning, and I recommend you double check your change if you have the same server we did. read more

We walked in at 7:03 am on a Monday and there was friendly staff waiting to greet us. Already three other tables and they just opened so I knew that was a good sign. Treated myself to a hot chocolate since it was chilly that morning and it was truly the best I've ever had. Definitely made from scratch with whipped cream that was out of this world. I would go back just for this drink. I ordered the Suburban since that's my go to breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, dutch potatoes, and toast. Didn't know what dutch potatoes were but figured I'd try something new. It was just like a dish my mom made for me when i was a kid so I was in nostalgic heaven. Cheesy and creamy with a hint of onion. Definitely splurge on those! I had picked this place since they served my husband's favorite - chicken fried chicken with gravy. He loved this plus the over easy eggs, toast, cheese grits, and sausage he ordered. I'm definitely a picky grit connoisseur and these were fantastic with cheese oozing throughout. My first time going here as I never knew it was here. Great service from the time you walk into the door. Friendly people and the server was outstanding. We were looking for a place to enjoy a late breakfast and followed yelp recommendations to Bakers Kitchen and we are so glad we did! Arrived close to lunch time on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Our wait staff, Sheka, could not have been any friendlier or helpful. I was so impressed that she noticed our table had a slight wobble and immediately got the shims in the right place to correct it. We had one of the traditional breakfasts with pancakes and delicious butter syrup, Cheesy Dutch potatoes, sausage and eggs; and a chicken salad plate with collards and sweet potato fries. This is our "first day" stop whenever we visit family in New Bern. Friends coming with us? Great, we'll drag them along. Alone? Perfect, we'll have a leisurely brunch. I've never had anyone unhappy about the stop! Their sweets are perfection, and the breakfast exactly what you expect from North Carolina breakfast: dense, soft biscuits, fluffy eggs, and filling chicken and waffles. Oh and always get the Dutch potatoes. Are they healthy? I'm guessing no. Are they amazing? Yup. Staff is friendly and they get you in and out without making you feel rushed. Very disappointed in our visit here. Our waitress, Lo, was awesome. Unfortunately, nothing we consumed here lived up to the hype. The coffee was nothing more than coffee-flavored water. The grits were incredibly bland. Our French toast and pancakes were ok. The best thing we had to eat was the fresh fruit bowls. I'm not sure why so many people seem to love this restaurant. We have been here several times and the foods been great.. this time the eggs were so under cooked the whites were clear and running off the plate. The server was outstanding, he continuously checked on everything and ensured drinks were full and if anything was needed. I mentioned it to the waiter and he offered to replace the eggs and for a free pastry. If you want anything but breakfast, this is not the place for you. The breakfast menu is excellent. The pastries are good. I have been several times and the service is okay but the last time I went with a party of four and paid my check with cash, the waitress took all the checks and payments and did not ask if I needed change. My table companions were all engrossed in conversation, still no return of waitress and finally everyone got up to leave, and I left and then realized when I got to my car that there was no change from my cash payment. I went back into the restaurant and found the waitress. She seemed quite annoyed and made an excuse as to why she never returned with my change. As I tried to clarify, she continued to make excuses and I told her I was double parked and needed to clear this up. She continued to try to clarify or maybe she was just all shook up but there was NEVER an apology. I lost patience and told her "Merry Christmas" and walked out. She ended up with an $8.00 tip for a $12 check. NOT going back there even though I live in New Bern and it is popular among my friends and neighbors. read more

If I lived in New Bern I would weigh 400 pounds from eating here. We only had breakfast, but it was truly yummy. And breakfast, to be such a simple meal, often ISNT. I ordered 2 eggs with bacon that came with a split and grilled cinnamon roll. Delish. Eggs were cooked perfectly, and the bacon was sweetly crisp. Yum. Yum. Yum. Everyone agreed. We grabbed some cookies to an afternoon snack and what a treat for .99c. There are also pies and cakes....just couldn't work them into our schedule. After a few months of hearing about it, I had to find out what the hype was about. I checked out Bakers Kitchen for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised.
