Nice clean environment. Servers and hostesses are super friendly and kind. The menu was out dated and the waitress didn't mention the changes. We ordered the cucumber and tomato salad but we were told after we order they changed the recipe and omitted the tomatoes. Also I ordered the chicken salad because the menu said pecans and grapes were in the recipe but when I received the salad there were no pecans or grapes. Entered the restaurant a little after 8am on a Wednesday to observe hardly any customers. Took about 20 minutes after being seated to get our coffee, another 10 minutes after that to have our order taken which consisted of two bacon and cheese omelets and that's it. Another 20 minutes go by with no coffee refills and when the eggs came, no bacon and they tasted like the generic food club version of egg beaters as well! No wait staff to rectify the no-bacon and of coarse it was indicated and charged to our bill. Well...first and last visit here....won't be back!!! $24.00 for 2 omelettes and coffee?? That's a lotta generic egg beaters cartons I could have bought myself at Walmart! GO ELSEWHERE !! read more

This place is probably one of, if not, the busiest breakfast spot in New Bern. Took a while to get a seat (45 min at 10AM), but with the selection on the menu, I can see why. Chicken and waffles were awesome. This is a good place just get there early or be prepared to wait. read more

I typically only write reviews when I'm very pleased with a meal, but I will make an exception for the Baker's Kitchen. Both my husband's and my orders were wrong (he didn't get his cheese biscuit and for me there is nothing worse than ordering well done eggs and receiving slimey instead). My husband asked for sweet tea and twice got unsweetened. Yes, I know he shouldn't be drinking sweet but it really isn't the waitresses job to decide that for him ;-) Maybe we just, unfortunately, hit them on an off day but everything was definitely off. The gravy was dry and very salty, the home fries were overcooked and the ham in my hub's omelette was suspiciously Oscar-Meyerish. I understand they were very busy (30-45 wait) but an established restaurant in a tourist town should be capable of handling the hungry masses much better than that. What a great find! If you anywhere New Been, NC you have to stop at the Bakers Kitchen. The muffins, pastries and baked goods look amazing. My omelet was delicious and they were very accommodating when I asked for changes in my dish. The homemade biscuits are a must have!! Great atmosphere and service. We put our names on the waiting list and were seated about 6-8 mins after we arrived. Our waiter was Rick. He was GREAT and very attentive to our needs. We had the chicken salad on the spinach strawberry salad with greens, green beans, macaroni and cheese as additions to our meals. The sides tasted like my grandmother was in the kitchen cooking. Today, though, the signature butter syrup was watery and when the unenthusiastic waitress brought more, it was the same crap. I took my family to lunch at Baker's Kitchen this week. The place was packed. It was a hot day and the AC inside felt great. The unsweetened tea was refreshing and replenished during our meal. Three in our group ordered a breakfast that included this honey butter dipping sauce that was mind blowing lay good. I ordered a BLT and Dutch (cheese) potatoes. The potatoes were good enough but the BLT was poor. The toast had no mayo. The bacon was burnt black. Lastly, there was a sliver of a mushy tomato. I would be embarrassed if I owned this restaurant and saw this poor quality delivered to my guest. read more

Worth the wait every single time!! I have tried many different items on their menu and I have always been impressed every single time. It's hard for me to get items that don't include their famous syrup because it is so good! All of the employees are super friendly and despite the wait, they do such a great job keeping everything organized and stress free. To be so busy it operates so well! We are normally always sat at a table BEFORE our wait time is even over which is impressive. I cannot recommend Baker's enough! read more

Maybe it's a bad day, but I don't know how this place has any stars. I got the eggs Benedict, the wait to get them wasn't long, but they were over cooked and cold. Maybe I got someone's return, but I overheard the lady next to me say hers were cold as well. I asked for a little extra Hollandaise sauce as it came with practically none. They brought me a little cup of what looked like cheese wiz. Everything looked and tasted like they got it off he shelf of a grocery store. Baker's Kitchen has slipped over the past year. The pancakes that were great are no longer. The quality of the food is not the same. It is basically a tourist attraction. Attentive service by Nic. He seemed enthusiastic about the food served. Good sign. He described items on menu I asked about with enthusiasm and when asked for recommendations he gave them happily. I tried the French toast breakfast and after downing the one slice of French toast I wished there was another piece. It was delicious. Not soggy and bread reminded me of the fresh baked slices of bread I have had in Japan. The bacon was a thick sliced bacon and the eggs were perfectly sunny side up. The hubs had the pancake stack with his meat lovers omelette. The bacon bits were too crunchy for him but the taste was fantastic. I low key wished there was a bit more omelette as it looked thin. We both enjoyed their homemade syrup and know what their secret ingredient is, since hubs is a great fan of its base ingredient since he was a little boy. - I did not get sick after eating here. They seem to be attentive to cleanliness when cooking. YAAY!!! - we ordered from the bakery display and was not disappointed. We had the caramel cupcake, red velvet cupcake, blueberry mini cake, and lemon bar. Tasted homemade with love. Cons: -We sat in a two seater table and quickly wished we had moved to a 4 seater instead. We are a bit tall and the table was small for us and no place for my purse. - the dead wet leaves on the side street kinda sucked to step into. - the floor seems a bit slippery, so walk carefully - There seems to be quiet a confusion at the entrance between people coming in and people leaving so you may need to speak up if you need to be seated or checked out when there is a crowd there. If I could give a 3.5 I would. I feel that it just could have been better. I got the Steak and Cheese omelet and it was just OK. The meat was pretty dry and the eggs seemed bland. The toast was not toasted. But the coffee was good and the water was cold. My wife says I am too picky because she thought her 2 eggs, 2 sausage, grits, and biscuit were delicious. Grits do nothing for me. Downtown New Bern is great so they win for their location. Outside that, be prepared for a generic breakfast. The staff was friendly. read more

Went there for lunch. I had the fried chicken breast with cream gravy. The chicken was overcooked and dry. The string beans tasted like the just came out of can. However, the gravy was good and the roll was excellent. My friend got the chicken salad sandwich which she thought had a good flavor but was disappointed that the chicken was ground up and not in hunks. We wanted to try some pie but they were sold at. Outstanding breakfast! We ate here yesterday, Wednesday 8/7/2019. I got The Hungry Farmer (eggs, meat, potatoes, and 2 slices of french toast or waffles with butter syrup) and my mom got The Farmers Wife (eggs, meat, 1slice french toast or waffle with butter syrup) with coffee. One word sums it all up...YUM!!! I adore the butter syrup and the bacon was pretty amazing as well. I didn't bother taking pictures because the plates look just like pictures that are already out there, we were sooo hungry, and it smelled/tasted so good that we just couldn't wait. LOL Our server, Kyle, was nice and personable. The only negative was how long we waited to pay, since they want your server to complete the sale not another employee...and they got busy right before we were to check out. We decided to get pastries to go, as we were leaving to travel home that day. I got the cinnamon roll/honey bun, the pecan roll, and the molasses cookies to take home to my husband and teenage son...they said they were so good. read more
