    Chicken and waffle (butter syrup)
    John C.

Saw the large numbers of great reviews and had to give it a try. Place seems to always be busy and now I know why. The best french toast I've ever had, not sure of its their homemade bread or the butter syrup but it was fantastic. Eggs and bacon perfectly cooked. The Dutch potatoes are like hashbrown casserole- delicious. Update - tried the chicken and waffle breakfast today, Best I've ever had ! Inside is clean and uniquely decorated. Highly recommend even if it makes it harder for me to get a table

I decided to return to Baker's Kitchen and must say this was a better experience. Baker's Kitchen is located inside a building built in 1911. Like a lot of older buildings, it was abandoned and then renovated for what you see today. They kept the 14-foot ceilings and left the brickwork exposed. My waitress this time was more experienced, so things went smoother. I decided to skip anything that would have the butter syrup and went with the avocado toast. I would have liked sourdough bread instead of wheat, but that wasn't an option, and it wasn't really toasted either. But the avocado was a good amount and tasty. I also had scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. They put the eggs on the toast, though, instead of on the side. This seems to be the popular place in town for breakfast.

We had a wonderful experience today while visiting with family. We were seated promptly, and our server, Amy, was an absolute pleasure. We tried a new appetizer--the fried donut holes--and they were delicious. If that wasn't enough sweetness, the hot buttered syrup definitely took it over the top! Even though the restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday, Amy did an excellent job managing the floor. She made sure we had everything we needed and kept our coffee and water refilled without us ever having to ask. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we'll definitely be back!

Visited here for the second time this trip. This time got the cheese omelet with cheddar and added mushrooms and sausage. All were packed inside and sprinkled on the outside for a photogenic look. I was also able to substitute a sweet potato biscuit for the regular one for no extra charge. It was excellent without the gravy but was just as good with it as well. It had the same texture as the but with a consistent sweet potato flavor and subtle sweetness. Definitely try it if you come in!

The ambiance is very comfy, local down town. Their food is very good, I'm not a person the eats syrup but their's is amazing. Can"t get any better. Service, it is spot on. Definitely recommend to visitor and locals as well.

From the hot coffee to the butter syrup, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast here. I had the Farmers Wife, which was great. My hubby had the chicken fried chicken. Our server highly recommended the chicken fried chicken and it was amazing. Amazing. Highly recommended!

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! When we told the server that we were from out of town and asked what butter syrup was, she brought us some samples and suggested we put it in our coffee. Delicious! We enjoyed our waffles and French toast with fresh fruit. The server also brought over a complimentary cinnamon roll in a bag to take home. Such a nice gesture! The restaurant is nice, much larger on the inside than it would appear from the outside. What a New Bern gem!

Everything is great here. Well worth the wait. Our waitress was nice. The runner that brought our food was professional and funny.

This is the best spot in downtown New bern, NC for breakfast and really great lunch. There is always a short wait but we'll worth it.

We were in no rush and our waiter (Beckett) was very accommodating with our pace. we ordered drinks and settled in on reviewing the small menu. Drinks were fine but I thought my beer (Sexy Cool Hazy IPA) was a little flat. We asked if there were any appetizers that would lend themselves to sharing. The only two, deviled eggs and pimento cheese, were not anything we were interested in so we passed. Surprisingly, there was not even a salad option as a starter. Two of the dinners had the NC catch of the day, golden tilefish. It was nice but a very small portion. One had the shrimp and clam purloo. It was a generous portion and was reported to be good. I had the braised pork cheeks. They tasted good and were not fatty at all. Looking back on our dinner, the food was fine but nothing exceptional. Also nothing "fresh" on the menu; salad, fresh vegetables, nothing. Also the lack of something other than the very pedestrian offers to share is something to consider. For what we paid, I would expect much better. PS - Our waiter, Beckett, was very good. Attentive enough but not too much. Also, why do restaurants of this caliber charge more for a credit card. Who is going to pay cash for a $300 meal? Just crank it into the price of the food and stop rubbing our noses in your cost to do business.

There was only one table occupied when we arrived, but the server was in no rush to wait on us. After finally ordering, our meals arrived promptly. My breakfast tacos were huge, but with virtually no sausage or flavor. I gave up after eating one of them. The hash browns were the highlight of the meal, but were so-so. My dining companion was not impressed with her huge omelet, but at least it had a generous portion of ham. My unsweet tea was clearly at least a day old, but came with a premium price of $3.49. According to the menu, my meal was supposed to come with hash browns but after paying I noticed that I had been charged an extra $4.99. This was not good and a poor value.

Despite of this, the people are great and they have some solid food!! They have a "make your own coffee" station. Unfortunately, the coffee was lukewarm at best. This tells me that the coffee had been sitting in those containers waiting to be poured for a while. We both ordered the kids/senior portion waffle, with bacon and eggs. They have great scrambled eggs (soft scrambled, not hard), and their bacon is pretty solid as well (kind of tough, though). Their waffles are Belgian-style, which means that they were generally a bit crisper on the outside, and soft on the inside. They are filling, and have solid flavor! Contrastively, their bathrooms are not the cleanest. But, in the end, their food is solid and is set at a good price, but needs more character in their restaurant! Where's the decoration?
