This is one of my favorite places to come for breakfast/brunch. The quality of the food is nothing short of amazing. It's not greasy and it doesn't taste like the same ol' thing you would get at any other breakfast place. It's better! Went in to have breakfast this morning due to positive reviews. Hostesses not wearing masks. I asked and they said they are not, she said the server would be. I see that decision by management as an indicator that the owners are not taking sufficient care either with their patrons or their staff. Nor are they following executive orders which are still in place in Phase 3 with 2 hostesses standing next to each other without masks. There wasn't obvious outdoor seating... Some set up in street but it wasn't clear it was affiliated with this restaurant and was not offered to me. I realize there are differences of opinion about whether the mask guidelines should be in place. The fact is to continue opening businesses we all need to do our best to protect each other. Having host staff wear masks shouldn't be a big deal. I left and went down the street where there was outdoor seating and mask-clad host staff. read more

We came from out of town to visit the beach and wanted a good place for breakfast to eat. I always read reviews first before choosing a place and everyone recommended Bakers! The reviews were not wrong! Not only was the food just amazing so was the service! Our waiter Rick was so amazing and so helpful! Tied with Bayleaf for my favorite place to eat in town. The food is good, it comes fast, the coffee is coffee, and the butter syrup is really good. If you really like sweet stuff with your breakfast, I would suggest getting the bun and sum (might be spelling that wrong, but I get it every time so I don't even look at the menu usually). It comes with eggs, bacon or sausage or ham, and a giant cinnamon bun. The cinnamon bun is literally the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. I usually get a side order of home fries too (crispy on the outside, mushy on the inside), because they're so good. Every time I take someone there, they have next to no complaints outside of the eggs being slightly undercooked sometimes. Also, on Saturdays, make sure that you get there early or else you will have a 20-30 minute wait. It is THAT popular. read more

So breakfast was good. Eggs, bacon, a biscuit the size of my head. The food was good. But it's been a full day since my visit to this restaurant, and I cannot shake the gross feeling of the lack of COVID safety precautions at this place. With signs on the door telling patrons they must wear masks, you would think those directions would also be followed by the staff. But after I was seated by a masked hostess, I noticed that more than half of the server staff (including my waitress) weren't wearing masks. Some had a mask on their body, but not on/near the face. It made me think that they kept it handy so they could slip on the mask when the boss came around, but someone I presume to be in management came around the dining area and he too wasn't wearing a mask. The man unloading boxes from their branded catering van into the restaurant also wasn't wearing a mask, nor did he seem to have one anywhere near him. I don't even want to think about how many masks were(n't) being worn by the hidden kitchen staff. I wore my mask the whole time unless I was actively eating. Anytime my server came to check on me, I lifted my mask to cover my mouth and nose. I was on edge the whole visit. I kept telling myself to get up and leave before ordering, and I regret not doing so. Isn't this an offense that could be met with a fine? I mean, it was bad. Note to self: don't trust a restaurant by the sign in its glass door. I wish I looked in, because it wouldn't have been hard to spot the deliberate lack of PPE. read more

Went here last time I was in new bern. Great place for breakfast & has a real southern feel to it. I had the pancakes & the butter is amazing. Not to mention, I had the cutest & most amazing server I've ever came across in my life. I think his name was CJ. Was the nicest & most friendly person I've ever had as a server. Hands down one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in my life! I ordered the Hungry Farmer and added a biscuit after hearing how delicious they were. The French toast with butter syrup was definitely the best I've ever had. The Dutch potatoes and biscuit were also amazing as well. Our server was awesome. Not only was she kind, she was very attentive without being annoying. If I didn't live 8 hours away I'd be hitting this place up for breakfast several times a week! read more

We grab breakfast here almost every weekend. Great coffee, always great service, and the butter syrup is addictive.

This restaurant is amazing for breakfast/brunch! They, also do a nice lunch that will definitely fill you up! The wait staff is friendly and everyone is on their toes to make sure you get your order within a decent amount of time. I wouldn't recommend going mid-morning on Saturday or Sunday, as there is usually long wait. (However, they will buzz your cellphone when your table is ready, so you can spend time shopping on the quaint downtown streets.) read more

First of all the food was great. Maybe about a 15 minute wait to get in. No complaints there. The only complaint I have, and it's a big one, only one employee in the entire restaurant was wearing a mask. If they care that little for the safety of their customers, we won't be back. I am going to start this review with my only criticism: The eggs are terrible! Now, on to the real review! I do NOT know what in God's name these blessed Amish broads put in the apple butterish syrup they give you on the waffles and pancakes... but MY GOD! That stuff is like liquid crack! I am obsessed. I MUST have it again or I fear I may go into withdrawals! Now, the cinnamon rolls... OH the cinnamon rolls! They are delicious and buttery and... just amazing! You know how sometimes a cinnamon roll will rip you off? How the inside or a certain section will be dry. Not here! No way, the entire thing is covered and filled with melty goodness. I can gaurantee I ate 1500 calories in one meal and I would do it again! I can't give them 5 because of the crappy eggs! Sorry! read more

I ran upon this place while working in the New Bern area last week. I wanted a quick bite and walked by this restaurant which seemed to have a good crowd so I ventured in. The front waiting area is perfectly placed due to the locale of the baked goods counter. While standing at the front, one is surrounded by the wonderfully smelling and scrumptious looking cookies, cakes, and bars. I am not sure what this place is known for but I will speak from my experience. I got "the Melts' sandwich that is turkey with melted gouda with lettuce, tomato, mayo or spicy mustard. It comes with your choice of bread and choice of side. I got this and added a baked cookie for a take-out lunch. The customer service was ok and the staff I did run into were pleasant. The atmosphere seemed nice and was decorated with historic pics of New Bern and had the trademark rug that New Bern is the Home of Pepsi Cola. When I bit into my sandwich, I was not happy. It was dry, and only had the turkey and gouda, no fixings, no mayo, no mustard. :( The chips that I ASSUMED (yes, I am well aware of what happens when you assume) were going to be restaurant homemade chips were in fact, Ruffle's. The cookie was ok but nothing special. Perhaps it is best to go in for breakfast or brunch but lunch....not my best choice. read more

A good friend and long-time New Bern local recommended Baker's for breakfast. It opened in the mid 2000's by Mennonites, they're all about country cooking. It's kind of like Cracker Barrel, but far better. I ate a LOT of food there. We each had some chocolate milk, but I put away some eggs, pancakes, sausage, and bacon. Do not forget their signature butter syrup either! So good! If we hadn't been full to the brim, we certainly would have taken advantage of the selections from their bakery, but there was no room left in our stomachs. Service was fantastic. Our waitress was super sweet and everyone there had smiles on their faces as they went about taking care of their customers. read more
