Food 3 star. We ordered 3 chicken stir fry pitas. Pitas were luke warm but still had good taste. French fries weren't hot but crispy. Other one ordered salmon which was pretty good. I should have made a comment on our sales receipt but didn't. All 4 of us appreciated the friendliness of the hostess that seated us and the server who was friendly and attentive. Do not sleep in this place! Everything we have had there is an excellent value and tasty. Their flavored lemonades are addicting and their fountain Dr. Pepper is some of the best in the upper Midwest. I recommend the fish and chips, the batter is really crunchy. My wife and I go there every few months for breakfast. Since Covid we rarely find good food or service. We rotate between three restaurants in Mankato and they have all gotten worse since Covid. This time at Bakers Square our food arrived in a timely manner. I had the four square breakfast. The scrambled eggs were different than usual and just tasted a little off. They were not very warm. The hash browns were a smaller portion than they used to be and were under done and cool. The sausage links were hot and excellent. The 2 pancakes were good but not great and were on a cold plate so they quickly were too cold. Why do the handles on the syrup pitchers always have syrup on them. Quickly my hands, fork and coffee cup have sticky syrup on them and the meal is ruined. The coffee was hot, a urn with more was on the table and it was excellent. I have been following the society forced tipping mantra of 20% but have decided to stop that nonsense. You can read the reasons why on Reddit, The restaurant is now pay at the table with a tablet held by the waitress. I was forced to check the no tip box while she was staring at me. Wish I could review the food but I was not attended long enough to even taste the water. My family of 6 went in on a Wednesday due to a recommendation. the host was nice so that was the only upside of our experience. Once at our table without exaggeration we waited 12 to 15 min and what looked like server in the area we were sitting at just walked past us 3x. Felt very un welcomed so we got up and left. They are horrible. We went with a party of 5 and all of the food was disgraceful and disgusting. Do not recommend. Very small portions but which was okay because we couldn't bare to eat anymore. It had been a long time since I'd seen and eaten at Bakers Square. This particular location is the same as I remember and they still have many of the same menu items and pies from way back. They had a special where you order two items from a special menu and then you get a slice of pie free - this is what I did because they had an peach cream pie I wanted to eat. The service was exorbitantly slow! Our food took around half an hour to arrive - it was excruciating. When the food arrived it was good and the pie was just okay. Our server was friendly enough but a little forgetful. He'd forget to bring us things we asked for. The restaurant itself was not very crowded at all and the clientele is definitely on the mature side, if you know what I mean. I like Bakers Square and would eat here again for the nostalgia alone (and the pie variety) but I do hope that their service speeds up. read more

Sometimes you just need some comfort food and Baker's Square has it. I especially love brinner and a huge selection of pies. Lovely staff.

We always enjoy eating here. We have been on numerous occasions and try to eat here at least once when we are in town. Today, for breakfast/lunch, I had eggs, bacon and pancakes. The eggs and bacon were cooked just the way I like them and the pancakes were a nice size. My husband had the salmon and rice. That his his go to meal when we eat here. It has a good teriyaki flavor and the rice is fluffy with a good taste to it. He and I both had a slice of pie today. The Lemon Meringue and the European Truffle were both excellent choices. The servers here are always nice and we never have to ask for more drinks. With it being a Sunday morning/afternoon, they were on the ball and got us seated pretty quickly and a food was brought out in record time. We will come back next time we are in town. read more

We came 2 weeks ago and it took over 2 hours to order, get our food, and leave when there were four other tables to serve. Today we came to give it another shot and my food came with a dead fly and all they offered was $3 off. That wouldn't even cover a slice of pie from here. We will not be returning. read more

It doesn't take much impress me, so 2 stars means this place is pretty gross. The Cajun tilapia was more like a dried pile of fish with lots of dark gray spots and there were still pinbones in the fish (ow!) The rice pilaf looked and tasted like it was scraped from the bottom of a tall, old pot. The green beans were dry and filmy. The pie gave me an immediate tooth ache. The BLT was thrown together by someone who maybe doesn't know how to construct a sandwich? Mismatched bread sizes. The lettuce and tomatoes were pale. The manager is nice. I went to bakers square for lunch today. I was very disappointed. I walked in and the place smelled very bad! I wanted to walk out right then but my friend consisted we stayed. We then got our drink orders right away. My friend and I knew what we wanted in minutes but yet it took the waitress 10minutes or longer to grab our order because she was too busy talking to the hostess about the night before! I ordered the "grown up grilled cheese" on rye bread with fries. Let me just say the fries were the best part of that entire meal! The cheese was not melted it was disgusting! I couldn't even tell the waitress because she didn't come back not ONE time to check on us! I will never ever and I mean EVER return to bakers square! Oh and I am still pooping! We try to eat at backer square when were in town (Mankato MN) and we all way get carrot cake to go, and really love it. The last time we were there, we got carrot cake to go like we all ways do ~ get home to eat it and was not good at all, it tasted like a spice cake, and the frosting was no good at all and really small pieces, like they had cut one piece in half. Sorry to we will not be going back for awhile and hopeful they will go back to the carrot cake that we love so much. And not a bad spice cake or what ever that was. This is one of the nicest Baker's Squares I have ever been to. We came for breakfast, and the 4x4 menu was a nice option everyone in my family chose. Prices were very reasonable. Omelette was a bit tough, English muffin was undercooked, and coffee was bitter. The strawberry crepe and chocolate chip pancakes were winners. Our waitress, Liz, was absolutely phenomenal! She was friendly without being too chatty, and she was attentive to our needs and efficient. (I told my son he should have asked her out!) Lots of precautions were taken to protect our health, which I really appreciated. Staff all wore gloves and masks, salt and pepper was provided in individual containers, menus were paper, and tables were socially distanced. The hostess even wrote down my phone number so they could call me if someone at the restaurant tested positive for COVID-19. I will definitely stop by the next time in Mankato. read more

Came on a Wednesday morning to have breakfast in a semi-busy day. My party of 6 was sat and waited 10 minutes before a manager came and took our drink order. The server eventually made it around and took our food order. The food took around 20-25 minutes to get to our table and only half came out. 5 minutes later it the rest came out. We waited the entire meal for a refill on out drinks and only got them after we were ready to leave. Poor service with only decent food to keep a two star review. Stopped here for lunch while in town for a medical appointment. It had been many years since we had enjoyed a meal at Bakers Square. It was quite busy, but also considering it was free pie day if you order two meals, who can go wrong with such an offer? We enjoyed two delicious entrees both of which were generous and very tasty. I come to Baker's Square a handful of times a year. The food is good, but I've noticed their service can be slow. At other restaurants, the host/hostess will seat you and they will help the waitress out by bringing your beverage right away. Not at this place. You could wait a long time for the waitress to finally bring your beverage and take your order, so you sit and twiddle your thumbs, thirsty. I love to sip on some coffee before I order. When the manager came around and asked how things were going, I told him that they should have their host/hostess deliver drinks right away and help the waitress out. He said they are too busy seating people, working the register and answering phones, so they can't help get drinks. But they were quite slow that night with only a few of us in there, so I told him that was disappointing. I will say that their food is pretty good though when it finally arrives. read more
