Today we decided to go shopping for our new glasses after putting it off for months due to my health issues. As usually upon walking in you are greeted with a friendly smile and hello which is always a plus for customer service. We were given trays for our glasses while they checked on our coverage. They have a very nice selection of men and women glasses. We are always pleased with this business. Agnes is very nice and helpful... she was able to help myself and my husband with our selection process. After finding the glasses we both liked CeCe also very nice and helpful came over to assist us and everything went smoothly. We were able to both get the glasses we liked and Agnes help my husband with his old pair we purchased from them years ago. I've been coming here for years for my eye exams. While ownership has changed, the experience remains the same high quality. I had Dr. Pham for my most recent visit and I couldn't recommend her more. She is a true expert in her field with excellent bedside manor. Dr. Pham spent the time to get to know my eye health history and explore any concerns I had. She provided an excellent and thorough eye exam experience. The whole staff is very helpful and friendly. Alexia, who did the begin portion of my eye exam, was attentive and nice to visit with. Agnis helped me explore their selection of glasses, and while I didn't end up buying a pair she was very kind. Thanks to the whole team for a great experience. Everyone was just lovely to deal with and I loved their enthusiasm and joy. Dr. Hur was incredible and I appreciate her so much. Professionalism was top notch. Lorie is a superstar and she was so patient with me and her passion for optometry, eyewear fashion, and people are overflowing. She went, what I felt like, was above and beyond expectations. She let me try on and talked me through a half a dozen or so styles before I narrowed my choices down. I thought I would come in here as a tag along with hubby who was having minor irritation with his eye and needed an eye exam. I had a booked appointment as well for right after him. What the heck, why not? Good to get regular exams, right? Especially if your work insurance covers one. I thought I would go in and skate, (never had glasses) needing nothing and just getting an A plus exam. Well, not so fast! We are very familiar with the location as we work out here at the plaza but funny - I never really noticed this place before. I guess out of lack of need, prior. Same cluster of stores as Dewar's ice cream, at the end. The place inside is much bigger than it looked from outside! It is newer too and it shows. Very nice space. We seemed to wait for a good amount of time before being seen first by the exam technician and then the eye Dr. It was a pleasant space though and you could make yourself a Keurig coffee and lounge on the seats or shop for sunglasses/frames. I had barely glanced at anything, thinking I needed none of that. I did not like the exams at all as my eyes are really light in color and sensitive to any light (this is why I wear sunglasses til dusk when outside!) but it is an evil necessary. I was seeing little green dots for a lot of the afternoon afterwards! The doctor was very nice and seemed thorough. Turns out, ya I am 20/20 but could use some reading glasses for perfect fine tuning of small print. You do not see the difference in your vision until someone shows you! I went out of the Dr's room a wee bit deflated until I was received by the gals working there and showed me some really cool options for frames. Tiiffany, Coach and my go-to, Ray Bans for comfort. Glasses have sure come a long way, removed from librarian look standards. The ladies were so patient with me as this was all new to me and were super sweet telling me their opinions, taking their time with us. It made shopping fun. Even for glasses frames. We were there way longer than initially intended but made our choices and paid. Cheap no but what price can you put on your eyes and less strain? Hubby bought reading glasses too, looks great in them. The Dr also gave him drops for irritation which could simply be dry eye in this dusty town. Plus, it is winter. I am not sure how much I will reach for these glasses for use, we will see. I will update too when we get our specs in, for satisfaction's sake. I think it will be another couple of weeks. The Ming Avenue location is conveniently located in the SW and offers many of the most popular eyewear labels as well as an exclusive Japanese brand (I wish they would carry Oliver Peoples though). Their opticians and sales personnel are helpful in picking frames to suit your face and lifestyle/occupation. Although I've purchased frames from them in the past, most recently I brought them a pair of eyeglass frames I received over Christmas, and they were more than happy to help me get lenses. BEC offers Carl Zeiss Vision lenses which are some of the best in the industry. And they have the blue-light filter to help remedy eye strain from staring at computer screens/mobile devices. I also wear surgical magnification glasses for work, and the great optometrists and opticians here even performed my eye exam and measured my pupillary distance that I then sent to the manufacturer of my surgical loupes. I was apprehensive changing optometrists after over 15 years. Dr. Nguyen is thorough and good at what he does. I wasn't prepared for the cost of glasses and contacts being over $700 with insurance. My contacts were ordered in July and I didn't receive them until October. Usually I feel more welcome in a business and I didn't feel that as much here. I'm still reconsidering if I will continue to use their service. read more

I visited this Optometry twice one for my annual eye exam and the second to repair my broken nose bridge. Both times were very good experience. Doctor and Staffs are very friendly and helpful. The lens took about 3 weeks. The pickup process was very smooth and they adjusted the frame to fit best to you. The Nose bridge took about 2 days. I was a patient here for nearly a decade and I became really dissatisfied with the service. I was given a script with what seemed to be improving vision. I was surprised and questioned how my vision could improve and I was given a condescending answer saying my eyes will fluctuate and that there was nothing I was doing or could do to improve my vision. There's no other practice of doctors where discussing how to improve a condition is out of the realm of care but that's besides the point. I decided to get a second opinion and got significantly different prescriptions. I felt rushed at this office and had a much different experience at my new office. The doctor took significantly more time with me and found my prescription to be weaker than what I needed. I was also informed there is a trial period with glasses and up to a few months you are allowed to request changes to your prescription and get updated lenses for free. I was never made aware of this during my time at this office. My new office also adjusted my new glasses and my old glasses to fit better around my ears and not slide down my nose. I wasn't aware this was offered and was constantly pushing my glasses up my nose. Overall this office feels like their main point of service is sales rather than care. My new office is Takhar Eye Care Optometric Center on Panama, highly recommend. When I called this office to cancel my follow up appointment after I had a second opinion no attempts were made to rectify the situation or retain a customer of a decade. Overall mediocre service in a great location but the extra drive is worth receiving more welcoming and patient care rather than being sold on something that was rushed through. read more

I first came here four years ago when I first moved to Bakersfield and I'll keep coming back. Everyone that works here is very professional, attentive and make the tedious process of buying glasses less dreadful. The shop is always spotless and they have the best selection of eyewear. Dr. Yang, Melissa, Stephanie and Mark were all a pleasure to work with. While it is considered a little more expensive than other places (Costco, Target), you do get a great shopping experience and they work with you one-on-one to find the right pair of glasses you love. I never felt rushed, pressured or that I was a bother when I picked out more than a dozen different frames to try on. Also, don't be afraid to try some new styles when you come in. Then I attempted to purchase glasses online, using my insurance. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I couldn't order them online (with insurance paying) because this optical office managed to block access to use my insurance for payment online! Ah! I had high hopes for this office. I've been wearing glasses for fifteen years and I have to say this doctor was the easiest and friendliest. The office staff is also extremely friendly. I have two insurances, because my primary doesn't cover much. I tried to ask if they would bill my primary, tricare, or try to and they said they couldn't. That's fine but I wish they would have at least tried. My appointment time was an hour before I was actually seen. The staff and doctor apologized profusely for this, but it's still extremely frustrating to be seen so late. The plus side of the hour long wait: I had plenty of time to browse the frames selection. I had let them know that I really wanted to stay within the price range that my insurance covers. This is due to the fact that my prescription is extremely high and I have to fork out quite a bit extra for high index lenses. I didn't find a single pair of frames within my budget. The sales associate tried to point me towards some that were "close" at still around $50-$100 more than I wanted to pay. In the back corner of the office, hidden away, were the inexpensive, and really really ugly, frames. I understand that the goal of this office is to cater to a little higher end clientele and they picked a great location for that. I ended up finding the exact frames that were priced here at $500 for around $190 at LensCrafters. I have no complaints on the staff or the doctor and I will return for Dr. Nyung. Although, I shall finangle the system and get my frames elsewhere. Here's to hoping my review doesn't get argued with! *fingers crossed read more

We visited the office to consult about contacts for my 13 year old daughter who has been a patient of UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Center since she was two years old. She is familiar with all things that have to do with her vision, including surgery. Our doctor from UCLA assured us she could have great success with contacts so we went ahead and planned an appointment with Dr. Nguyen. After two appointments, both of which were unfavorable, we left feeling frustrated. Dr. Nguyen did not have patience with his patient. His curt comments and responses to our questions proved he was uninterested in meeting the needs of his patients. To have a doctor ask you, "Are you clear now? I thought you were clear until you asked that question," was unbelievable. He was rude to my daughter, telling her she was "not listening or understanding." It was quite clear our questions were annoying Dr Nguyen and he did not have time for it. I have never had a doctor of any kind treat us so poorly. I would not recommend this office to others for exams or the optical boutique. It was a highly disappointing experience all the way around. read more

I originally booked an appointment at Stanton optical but after reading the reviews on yelp I was discouraged. I found Bakersfield Eye Care on yelp and they had great feedback and as a bonus they took my insurance! Feeling hopeful, I called to book my apt. Not only was the receptionist helpful in booking my apt, she looked up my insurance and gave me an idea of what I would be spending, realistic expectations of how long it would take the lab to deliver my prescription and had me fill out my visit forms online so I didn't have to wait in the office (bonus points for going green!) all in a 4 min phone call. Arriving early to my appointment the receptionist Jessica wasted no time checking me in and helping me find some awesome frame options in their wide selection. I was escorted back and the exam was quick but thorough. All of my concerns and questions were answered. After the apt, Jessica was very patient and helpful while choosing from the frames I had picked out earlier. Ended up with a rad pair of glasses mostly covered by my insurance and they gave me 30% off any of the overage. Definitely bringing my family for all of our future needs:) read more

So...reading has become difficult with letters being a little fuzzy and I knew something was amiss! So I looked for the best eye doctor in Bakersfield... I was scared... I walked into this place expecting to find out that I might be going blind due to a tumor growing in my brain... or worse. Making the appointment with a very knowledgeable and friendly receptionist days before, I ended up coming into the appointment five minutes before I was due, because they have a cool online paperwork system I had filled out earlier. Jessica (a very professional and friendly employee of the doctors) started me off promptly at my appointed time. She subjected me to a small battery of tests to either determine where the tumor was, or (as she said) "do some of the vision testing"... Very quickly Jessica finished and passed me off to Dr. Yang (presumably to use his bedside manner to let me down easily with the bad news of my immanent death or blindness...) He was a very personable man with great communication skills who asked me a few questions to get started and quickly set off on another battery of tests. Within minutes we were done. At this point, he turned our attention towards pictures of two ominous globes veiny nebula... He asked me a couple more questions as I answered. I could tell he was trying to put the news gently... first describing the strange picture of orbs with veins as MY eyes! He tried to put it nicely... "this is.... that is... looks good. And this is your left eye... and the outside looks good... and..." Everything good?!! I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!! "Doctor! Please tell me the bad news!!"... Perplexed, he very calmly said, "Ummm, there is nothing wrong. You are almost 48. You need reading glasses. Everything else is fine. Thats it" Well, I am sure they are just being humble. I am sure all those tests, lasers, lights, etc must have done something... because I cannot believe these glasses are all I needed. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TEAM and there coffee TO ANYONE! My wife and I both had a great experience with this location. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Yang was efficient and knowledgeable. He was able to answer all my questions and I was confident with my change in prescription. They offered coffee and cookies while we waited. Pandora radio was streaming on the flat panel TV in the waiting/optical shop area, good music too. Sarena, Danielle and Brandie were so nice! We had trouble with our insurance card and she was very patient and assisting us to a solution. I had noticed how everything there was organized, clean and comfortable. They use a lot of technology to, as the Dr. put it,"Save some trees." We signed our patient agreement on an iPad. Pretty cool. Overall, I recommend you give them a try. I'll update the review when we get our glasses. Update: Forgot to update! We have had 2 appointments and 2 sets of glasses. I've had eye glasses all my life and never had a group of people I enjoy more then the crew at Bakersfield Eye Care. Glasses we all of great quality and we had no issues with lens. Made an appointment for an eye exam to get an updated prescription. I arrived on time and was checked in. The place is very nice and modern inside. It really smelled good too. They had a little beverage cart setup with coffee and water. I waited only a minute before a nice lady came out. Told me she was my optic specialist, I think was the term she used. We started looking at eyewear. She helped me pick some out. She was great and honest, saying which frames didn't match my face well. We didn't have to do that often, as she knew which frames to head to in the first place. After we picked some out, they were ready to do my eye exam. After the initial eye exam, I met with Dr Yang. He was very friendly. They had the insurance paperwork done and ready for me by the time my exam was done. Everyone was very friendly. It was quick and efficient. Great selection. Great experience. Saturday my puppy got ahold of my glasses and well, I needed new ones. I was in a bind because I will be traveling out of the country and needed to be seen soon. The doctor and staff arranged things so that I could be seen Saturday (that same day). I was able to complete my new patient forms online which was great. Ok, so I've been seeing this doctor for 16 years, since before he opened this office. (He was at Target for years). I was pretty ok with him and his staff, but I booked my appointment this year and had to wait approx. 30 days. So I will start by saying that I have a Medical Condition in addition to COPD and cannot wear a mask. I found that I can wear a mesh mask (does about as much good as the other masks), anyway, I'm also 70 years and was in need of new glasses. So, I get there and this rude man says, your mask is not acceptable. (Now I can go to the grocery store, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, etc. with NO mask). But I explained to him I am handicapped (as I have talked to the ADA, CA. Dept. of Health and the local Dept of Health, they all said I am considered handicapped and do NOT need a card or letter stating that). Nope, he denied me service. A Senior, Handicapped person. I will Never go there again, even when no masks are required. If this is how you treat handicapped seniors. I gave this a one star but wish I could give NEGATIVE 5 stars. read more

TERRIBLE! This place only cares about you if you have money and/or status. They just rush you through everything. When I picked up my glasses, I asked if they needed to be adjusted. The girl said, oh, no, they are fine. Well, they slip off of my nose constantly. I also noticed that my lenses were not transition, which is a benefit covered by my insurance, and I asked for. I looked back at my paperwork to see that she had indeed not added the transitions. So, when I went back, the girl seemed annoyed that I wanted my glasses adjusted. I also brought up the transitions issue. She said ok, we will order the new lenses, and call you when they come in, and change them. Well, I never heard from them again. Apparently, I don't rate high enough for them to care about me as a customer. That's ok. I will take my business elsewhere. I would advise anyone looking for an eye care team to avoid this place. Unless you have a lot of money, or are a celebrity. read more
