My daughter was interested in learning to play the ukelele. Being homeschooled, her funds could go to any vendor the charter school recognizes. I'm glad to find Bakersfield Sound Co. on top of the list of those places offering one-on-one ukelele lessons. I inquired via their Facebook page at night, not really expecting anyone to answer back but they got my number and reached back to me the following day. My daughter and I had a look around the store and the studios and got her booked to start her classes the following week right away! I'm a beginner ukulele player. I needed a small repair and was a bit intimidated to walk into an instrument store. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and helped. Gary stopped what he was doing and made the repair quickly. The cost was super reasonable and he didn't treat me like I was a ding-a-ling. I'm so glad that I didn't try to fix it myself. I always want to give my business to a local business owner this company needs better representation when it comes to the guitar gear in the store I know it's hard to try to compete with Guitar Center but without fenders telecasters or Gibson's hanging on the wall it's hard to do business with the company because the guitars that they do have are not acceptable expect for beginners I do my part to give them my business but I'm very disappointed because they do not have the good stuff that I'm looking for but I wish them the best of luck and for that I give him five stars for trying the Big Kahuna read more

Five stars doesn't give this place the love they deserve. I'm taking bass lessons there and have dealt with every member of the staff and every single one is awesome to deal with. From the owners to the manager to the instructors and the rest of the staff everyone is super knowledgeable and helpful. I fucking love this spot!! I've shopped at every music store in Bakersfield and this place is special! There is an incredible wealth of knowledge among the employees and an honest care for you as the customer. I'm telling you these guys know their stuff! I bought some strings and they totally spent time to get to know me and even gave my guitar a much needed tune up on the house! At other music stores it takes so long to get any help or to check out but here it was so easy to get in and get out. They also offer lessons and seemed to have a lot of people giving lessons when I was there. Best guitar place I've EVER been to; I have been here a few times with multiple artist friends and I recently felt the urge to learn guitar in order to release stress and internal expression after I visited this business. I'm a very new player and After trying to learn on an electric too large for me, I bought an acoustic from 'Donner' and it sounded HORRIBLE. My strings were hitting the frets and it sounded like metal on metal. I brought her into the sound co and the workers immediately helped me and explained what was wrong. Not only did he do that, he showed me what to look for in the future when I have this problem again(in similar weather). He explained how he was fixing it, what was happening to the guitar during the process, and what tools he used to fix it. Never once did I feel like an annoyance and it felt great to have an experienced player such as himself show me the ropes, even when he did not have to. It was 100% free after he fixed it for me and I'm ecstatic as guitar center usually charges a baseline of $30 for even getting attention/consultation for/with your instrument. I was close to giving up on learning and when I realized help is just 10 min away, and from people who are eager to share the joy of music, I felt so much relief. These people are professionals and they will never judge you on how far you are in your learning journey and it's clear to see they are passionate about encouraging others to find peace/healing/expression/etc in music as well. The energy is amazing, and no one is unworthy of learning an instrument and no question is a bad one. I came in twice today, the first time to buy sone new strings and the second time to purchase another set after a botched restringing. The manager Norman was extremely helpful and even went out of his way to show me some helpful tips on how to restring my guitar. Overall this place has a very welcoming and friendly vibe and i will definitely be returning to take part in sone lessons and pick up any gear I need here. The storefront may be new, but every one of these employees has been an integral part of the Bakersfield music scene in one capacity or another. I'm pretty sure that manager lays down bass in about sixteen local bands. Honestly just got back on yelp to hype these folks up- on a tour with my band from OR this month and we stopped at the shop to kill some time and look at gear. Right away the people working here were eager to speedily help and get us set up to try guitars, pedals, and amps. After I decided to buy a Keeley Aria pedal, they helped get it velcro'd and nice and ready to put directly onto my pedalboard. This store is super cool, unique inventory, its got great aesthetic, and it's not a guitar center. It's a local music shop, it's THE local music shop, way better than front porch. the thing I don't like is how much they just trash guitar center, like it's just the thing to do when go there customers and employees alike. I feel like there is a place for both, you don't go to tire shop for groceries so why trash the tire shop? A lot of the guys seem jaded. Still a cool place though. read more
