My friend and I had brunch here today and I must say I'm quite pleased with the service I was given. The staff were exceptionally courteous and accommodating. They present a dignified, classy atmosphere. Moreover, the food was quite delicious. I had the country omelette and my friend had the mexican omelette. The country omelette included peppers, onions, potatoes, ham, and I believe cheddar cheese (though I had mixed cheeses). The mexican omelette has tomatoes, potatoes, spiced sausages with jalapenos, cheese, and I think onions. Not entirely sure if those ingredients are accurate since I didn't eat much of it. The eggs were well cooked, excellent texture. Mixed throughout were generous helpings of cheese. Vegetables and meats were flavorful. The meal came with four slices of toast layered in a decent amount of savory butter. I would say I preferred the mexican over the country omellete. Just personal preference and not indicative of quality comparison. I also tried some of their frozen treats (could have been sorbet or frozen yogurt). I combined tiramisu and coconut. Very good! I'd go back just for the frozen treats. This bakery/grill has an great price to tastiness ratio. I spent about 6 dollars on the omelette and probably 3 to 4 dollars on the frozen treat (Also included a tip for the service). Given all the good reviews for their dinner menu, I'll have to give it a try sometime soon. read more

Best salteñas in Fairfax! The bread is sweet but the filling of the chicken and veggies, which has a bit of a spicy kick, evens out the flavor. I definitely recommend this place, you are missing out if you haven't tried it! read more

What a treat for Sunday lunch at Bakery Bread And Grill. Four full stars for service, food quality, taste and authenticity! Just shy of the 5th star because it was a little cramped. We were so delighted to try authentic South American fare. I ordered the picante de lengua and my ever faithful dining companion ordered the Falso conejo and saltenas pollo. Both meals came out piping hot, as did the saltenas. Fresh and delicious. The restaurant was packed but charming even though we had the table near the door and got banged a few times. We are not Spanish speakers and our waitress graciously answered our questions and made wonderful suggestions. We are thrilled this little gem is in our area and will be back for more. we bought the corn bread, and chicken puff pastry . The corn bread is baked in the corn husk and is by far the best corn bread I've ever had. I actually don't like the southern style corn bread since i can taste the grittiness of it but this is sweet, moist and just plain delicious. We went back and bought more for the kids. It's worth it. the chicken puff pastry was also tasty - a great lunchtime quickie with a spicy green sauce. yummy. But you'll make a mess in your car if you don't have enough napkins. The food is "ok" - nothing spectacular. The service is lacking and actually not very helpful. The ambiance is like a dive. If you go there to purchase an entire cake like we did, don't let them talk you into "one cake is for four people"; one cake could easily feed six to eight adults. The prices were pretty extraordinarily high for lunch. The chef was also pretty unwilling to change small requests such as no hard boiled eggs or substituting hard boiled for sunny side up. To be frank, hard boiled eggs make me nauseous. I forewent eating a $17 dish because of their unwillingness to fulfill a minor request. Cute little bakery .. The staff is really nice.. We ordered seafood pallea, silpanco, chicken and beef saltenas and some super chewy bread.. Overall the food was good but I've had better.. The saltenas were really good both beef and chicken full of goodies and filling! Silpanco was favored by my friends but not so much my taste.. The beef is super thin and deep fried so it was very greasy but the potatoes hidden under with the rice and tomato onion salad were really good :) now the seafood pallea was terrible.. I've had plenty of palleas from different places and this one just smelled horrid.. It seems as though the seafood may have been old.. Regardless we didn't touch much of it.. I am definitely gonna go back to try the lomo Saltado and pique macho ..:) read more

Over the last year, we've tried almost everything on the menu and the pastries that were available on the shelves. We've decided that everything else is just okay but the saltenas are always good. They didn't carry beef for a while but it's available again. We came back from a skiing trip this morning and stopped by to pick up 2 chicken and 2 beef saltenas to go around 10:30. After we got home, all 4 were bone dry with no juice whatsoever. I suspect that they were leftovers from the day before and reheated. The egg inside was just nasty. When we order saltenas, we order a dozen or more and call ahead so they're normally fresh but this morning's bad experience will make us think twice about going again. The only advantage that it has is that it's close to us so we don't have to trek all the way to Luzmila's in Falls Church. read more

I have been going here for years. The food is good but they often do not pick up the phone. I live close by and have walked in to order after calling multiple times and the place is not busy. One time I called 5 times. Of the 5, 4 calls went to voicemail and the 1 call they picked up on they put me on hold for 10 minutes...just out of curiosity I went to check in person and the place was not busy. I am paying for a service, I should not have to work and go through extra effort to place an order that I am paying for. I would honestly say the food is 4.5 stars (fries are always stale, menu items are frequently out of stock), but the "to-go" laziness that I have experienced for years here brings the experience down to a 2. I hope in future years their customer service matches their authentic food quality. read more

This place is Amazing...pastries, great french rolls amongst other delicious desserts. I walked in just to see what was available and walked out with delicious dessert and fresh baked french rolls. The store manager I assume a very sweet lady who gives you samples of the breads and explains how everything is freshly baked in the store. This is a very small place to eat in, but the food is very good. I'm Bolivian so the food is pretty authentic. Love the Silpancho, Pique Macho and Lapping. Their Salteñas are also pretty good. Prices are reasonable. Service is ok. I enjoy my meals everytime I go there, they also have humintas which are pretty good and different kinds of breads and empanadas. Good local place. read more

This place just recently opened and I wanted to try their Salteñas. I must say while they were not the best (needs to be a little more on the juicy/sweet side..lacks some flavor and consistency in the meat/sauce area) they were pretty good..they're new though so I'm looking forward to them to improve this. Their deserts on the other hand were amazing! Everything I tried tasted really good and just how I remember them tasting back in my country. Their humintas are awesome as well, even though the way I know them is with cheese in the middle. I was a little disappointed they didn't have any of their equipment for ice cream, coffee or drinks like horchata, however I was told they would have everything available by the end of the month. Overall it was a really good experience, specially with service being so good and everyone there being so polite and helpful. I just hope that next time I go their Sateñas will be better, can't wait to go back for some gelato! I would love them to have exotic and rare flavors like maracuya or pistachio. read more

We came back here recently for lunch and had salteñas. They are like pot pie in a turnover and are quite good. The shell is a bit sweet, but the flavor combination works well. Prices are quite reasonable, and this small restaurant fills up quickly. We also had a key lime mousse cake that was fantastic. I'm glad we came back and hope to do so again in the future. read more

So good. We went for breakfast around 10:30. They stop serving breakfast at 11am. We both had a Spanish omelette with chorizo. They serve it with ground jalapeño. Considering the chorizo and ground jalapeño, it wasn't overly spicy which I liked. The potatoes that come with the omelette are perfectly crispy and great with a little bit of ketchup. We also had a yucca roll. I have had these both cold and hot. If you have a little time to have it warmed first, they are better that way, but are also good cold or room temperature. These rolls are soft and chewy. My boyfriend says "it's like eating a cloud." For dessert (which was totally unnecessary as we were stuffed to the brim) we had flan. They prepare it with the traditional sauce, whipped cream, and two lady fingers which added a welcome crunch to the dish. The two ladies serving were pleasant and attentive. I will definitely be back to try all of the wonderful looking pastries and the lunch/dinner menu. Next adventure: paella for two! read more

I've been coming here every so often. At first, I was very impressed with the Bolivian food items but I have noticed a dip in quality. On Sept 4th, my father ordered sopa de miani and he mentioned that it seemed the soup was filled with extra water to compensate for the lack of soup they had available. I also noticed that the saltenta we ordered was dry and not as juicy as before. When we complained about the food, the owner female lady said nothing. i have been going here for a few months now ever since I moved out to Fairfax. I love everything i have gotten. i was looking for a place to get some Saltenas and this placed popped up. ive had there chicken and beef saltenas, i perfer the beef. I also had there Tranca Pacheo (Very Big and filling) , i really recommend people get this if you are ok with a runny egg. Probably one of the best sandwiches i have eaten. Ive tried alot more stuff but dont know the spanish name for it, Steak with salsa?? either way you cant go wrong with whats on the menu. Price for the food and portion size is good. They do have lunch special too where you get a meal with a soda for like 10 bucks which is not bad. They have a bunch of desserts/pastries that look delicious. Havnt had a chance to try them since im pretty full after eating my meal. Go try this place out if your looking for some latin and different place to eat. This is NOT TEX MEX food you get at the american chains in the area. read more

The saltenas here are so. So. Good. They are like little pastry pies of soupy, meaty, hearty goodness. They're a little sweet, so for me, the ground jalapenos are a must; otherwise it gets to be a bit much. You've got to come early on the weekends or on weekdays to get them--they run out so fast! The five or six times I've gone, I've only been able to get saltenas twice. That says a lot. Also they are SO cheap! I think each saltena is 2 or 3$, and two will DEFINITELY fill you since they are pretty heavy. I can only eat one and a half. So delicious; definitely worth a go! read more

Wanted to add to the positive reviews. The few times I've visited, they've had saltenas right out of the oven...so good! A couple coworkers shared a couple (yes, there's a slight sweet-ness to them, but if you are ok with sweet, salt, spiciness...it's good!). Also tasted the cornbread, cakes, pastries...all freshly made and very inexpensive. I hope they keep this up in the future. And yes, the staff have always been very friendly...such a breath of fresh air for Fairfax. read more

They have really good saltenas here. Chicken and Beef are really good but Beef is definitely the best in my opinion. We usually come here for lunch on the weekends and since it's pretty small place, we usually end up having to carry out because the place gets really packed. Haven't tried the bread or desserts yet but they look really good. read more
