Nice pastry selection and the service was friendly. All of their cookies are chewy, and some were soggy. I didn't mind the taste of most of them but the chocolate chip cookie was 30% as good as a Tates. I tried their seasonal ginger cake and it was very tasty. This bakery gets an A in customer service! The cupcakes were decorated to perfection. The piping was flawless and the decorations were class and whimsical. I truly was a work of art and I didn't want to eat because it was so beautiful. The chocolate chip poundcake was a first for me in cupcake form, having said that it didn't need the really sweet frosting which totally overwhelmed the delicious cake underneath. We came in at the last minute to order a Hummingbird cake and the wonderful ladies at Bakies were able to come up with one when we needed it. The shop is a cute little spot in the I'on area. Cannot say enough good things about this bakery. I was looking for a bakery that could make a vegan birthday cake and when I stopped in Gail was so helpful. She spent over 20 mins chatting with us and even let us sample a gluten free sugar cookie and vegan cupcake (both delicious). A week later, when time to pick up the cake - I was running late and worried I wouldn't make it before they closed. I called the shop and they were so nice about it and told me they'd be waiting for me. Hannah did a beautiful job with the cake and the birthday girl was really happy. We ordered a vegan marble cake with vanilla "butter"cream and one layer of raspberry filling. The cake was so tasty and I'm not even vegan. My only complaint is that there are no leftovers! Ordered a cake and 2 dozen pastries for a large family gathering in Isle of Palms this summer. The cake was simply delicious. But, the pastries were not on the same level. Thought I could trust the reviews but just ended up VERY DISAPPOINTED FOR MY ONCE IN A LIFETIME WEDDING... I was very specific with what I wanted and the reference pictures I sent. (Pictures attached) They said they could do what I was looking for. I requested "til death" on my cake, turned out looking like "til dooth" because it was so squished together. They added glitter to the cake and cookies without me requesting it and without even asking if I wanted it first. They also added a border around the cookies without asking me if it's something I wanted. The lady was very rude when I asked for a refund for the cookies, I brought them all back untouched. Unfortunately I had someone pick the order up since I was busy getting ready for my wedding. I texted her immediately after I saw the order, of course I didn't get a response. I paid $90 for 15 cookies and $110 on the cake that didn't even turn out how I requested. Rip off. Lady said she adds glitter and border to all wedding stuff. Bakies is an excellent place for specialty cakes. We picked up our Grandson's 3rd birthday cake there and were not disappointed. First of all they are perfectionists for designing and decorating cakes. I think they can truly do about anything. Not only was the design wonderful (see photo I uploaded), but the taste was wonderful as well. It was sweet but not too sugary or too rich. Both the icing and the actual cake were awesome. They also do gluten free which is good to know for future occasions. We'll be back! read more

TREMENDOUS AND WEDDING CAKE SUPER HERO! What was a horrible situation with a prior bakery turned into a blessing in disguise! I called Hannah and her team at 3pm on a Friday afternoon with a cake emergency. Our bottom portion of the cake had fallen thus leaving us with only a topper. With the wedding event less than 24 hours, Hannah assured me that she would take care of it. I am so thankful that there are people who can assist with last minute errors. This is my go-to place for birthday cakes! Last summer I walked in 2 days before my birthday party and asked if they could make me a dinosaur cake. I spoke with the owner/decorator and he asked me a couple of questions about which dinosaurs I liked the best and what other things I might like on my cake. I then got to pick from a VERY extensive list of cake flavors and fillings. He said it was kind of short notice but he would do me up something cool. The man lived up to his word! 2 days later I had before me an awesome cake of a tyrannosaurus rex head, complete with bloody teeth, and an erupting volcano in the background. It was beyond what I thought he would be able to do on such short notice, and the 3-D effects were cool. Did I mention he also made the entire thing out of icing and not gross tasting fondant? The cake itself was super moist and delicious. Everyone at the party was impressed, including my mother, who happens to be a cake decorator herself. Since then I've been telling everyone that they need to check this place out. The cost was actually less than some of the cakes at the local grocery stores. I just want to say how awesome my Gluten Free Groom's Cake and Wedding Cake was from Bakies! I have Celiac Disease and was so pleasantly surprised by the amount of choices (all the flavors she normally provides) and the quality of flavor of the gluten free cake. We had our Groom's cake during our rehearsal at a park on a very hot day and it was great to have some Red Velvet cake for dessert. Gail and her crew were able to take my crazy design ideas and produce something very special. Everyone loved it, especially my new husband! For our wedding cake, I gave her some really out there ideas and she made it perfect. We had Lemon cream with Raspberry filling, strawberry with cream icing and vanilla, chocolate cake with peanut butter cream. We picked this bakery because of the great reviews but we were very disappointed. Ordered a 7 in birthday cake for my daughter. We were told that they didn't offer whipped cream frosting and that butter cream was the only frosting available. I guess I should have stopped there but we placed the order anyway. Everything about the cake was a disappointment. The cake itself was so dense and heavy. The buttercream frosting was extremely sweet. The fruit filling that we paid extra for was mainly a thin layer of jam with a few small pieces of the actual fruit mixed in. I expected more from a cake that cost over $50. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. I found this place and booked a tasting for my wedding cake and decided also to order a cake for my sons 1st birthday. I placed the order back in March and sent in picture after showing them what I wanted. Fast forward from March to May 12, 2018: 15 mins before picking up the cake I called to confirm it was ready and was told "they were busy" and it would be ready 45 mins later. My fiancé picked up the cake and it looked nothing like what I ordered. (Pics in comments) When I called they pretended to have amnesia and stated they didn't understand because the cake I got was what I ordered. To put the "icing on the cake" my guest complained and said the cake was dry and hard! Please do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere. After living in Manhattan for 20 years I returned home to SC. I needed a cake and dug and dug trying to find a place that gets it. Bakies met all my best hopes. Truly tasty with just the right fruit fillings, it had a fanciful but tasteful decor. I bought too big of a cake thinking the party I would take it to would have 50-60 people attending...it had about 35...no worry...that cake disappeared fast. Even those who said they did not 'do sugar' gave in due to the raves from everyone else. Allow extra time for intricate designs. I just need more parties to take them to. read more

I can't say enough good things about Bakies! They made a beautiful birthday cake for my daughter a couple years ago that was delicious and expertly designed and decorated! I went back yesterday to pick up some cookies I had ordered for my daughter's last soccer game and once again they exceeded all expectations. The cookies were perfectly decorated and tasted wonderful! Everyone raved about them. Their prices are fair, the quality is exceptional and the staff has always been pleasant. I will never go back to the "big box" bakeries in the grocery stores. Why would I? With reference to the review below by Raven S, titled "DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME", Please read this alternate review. As a 25-year customer (long before it was even Bakies), my hope is that people will not read this review without also reading the 5-star ratings as well (of which there are more than 20 times the number of poor reviews). To say someone did a "bad" job and publicly malign them because they didn't exactly extract from your brain what you had in mind, is completely unfair and misleading. My family, for example has had MANY cakes done by Gail (Bakies owner) and they have all been incredible both in design and in taste. As recently as March, she created a masterpiece for my son's 18th birthday and in November when my oldest son was married, the ONLY thing he insisted on was Gail making the wedding cake. I know for a fact that she has generations of families that keep coming back, birthday after birthday, from gender reveal to that babies graduation cake. So, please - don't base anything on this very one-sided review only...go look at ALL the reviews to get a real picture of what this bakery and it's owner excellently produce. read more
