It was a fun half day to walk the Balboa area after our whale watching tour. Definitely good for kids.

Scott, who was at the front desk when we arrived, was especially kind and thoughtful. You could tell he spent time making sure that every single guest felt like the experience was unique for them. Scott spent time talking to my mom about different options for our room - and was so incredibly patient as we discussed amongst our family before making a decision. When we arrived in our hotel room, we were surprised by the bottle of wine and snacks that the team had left for us. I am so grateful to the team at VEA - they really made our stay pleasant and enjoyable. My parents loved it - and they're really particular people. We'll be back!

Since we had many errands, didn't get a chance to fully utilize the amenities but was able to stop by the pool and checked the water temperature. Heated for sure. Pool side bar at the west end and rows of cabanas at each side of the pool. Nice set up. Hotel lobby was spacious, the center piece changed out. It was different over night. Situated right next to the Fashion Island. Balboa Island is few minutes away. Very nice location. Our upgraded room was very quite, great view and of course very comfortable bed. Linens and the usual toiletries were definitely better than usual Marriott brand. In room espresso machine was a plus. Guess what. Didn't have to pay for water. No fancy water with high price tag. All went well. Definitely will be back for some pampering and chiling out at the pool.

Did a 3 day weekend at this beautiful spot in Newport. Couldn't have gone better & can't say enough…read moreon how impressed we were. We were so surprised at the way we were treated by EVERY employee- this does not happen any more anywhere! From valet to check in to maid service to bellman to bar and restaurant staff. Everything was so perfect. They do have some construction going on in the front lobby area so check-in was moved to a smaller area and there was a line, but the line went fast and the employees were smiling, offering us water bottles, telling us more bottles were in our mini fridge in the room plus a free bottle of wine and handed us a glass of champagne at check-in! We were shocked actually lol Our stay was amazing. We were there for a baby shower. The shower was held in a room right off the deck where all the yachts were parked on the water. It was beautiful, the food was all delicious made by the restaurant on site. In the evening, we stopped by the bar and all the fire pits were going right next to the water & yachts. Perfect ending to a great day already. They have a free shuttle/suburban that will take you anywhere within 2 to 3 miles and pick you up. It runs 8 AM to 8 PM and that was a great addition to our stay and the drivers were so friendly. Just need to tip! The cafe food for breakfast was perfect. Lots of great pastries, try the bacon Asiago scone-obsessed! They had yogurts fruits egg bites and sandwiches as well. And coffee of course. Water stations were everywhere in the resort which was great! Pool area very nice and has a bar. Perfect. This hotel is not on the beach, but is on the water. You could have the shuttle take you to the beach w your gear and pick you up if needed. That works out perfectly. Definitely will stay again. The treatment we received was A plus!

This property markets itself as a luxury hotel, yet our experience fell far short of even basic hospitality standards. From the moment we arrived, we were met with rude and unprofessional customer service that continued throughout our entire stay. The photos on the website are extremely misleading and make the property appear far more luxurious and modern than it actually is. We were immediately surprised by how different the hotel looked in person. Our check-in experience set the tone for the rest of the stay. Susan at the front desk checked us in who initially confused our reservation with another guest which was fine. Then we politely asked if there was any possibility of an early check-in (it was a couple of hours past checkout out time) but still fully acknowledging that standard check-in was at 4:00 PM. We were told our rooms would be "rushed" by another employee at the front desk, so we stayed on the property since valet had already taken our vehicle and our luggage had been stored. We waited near the meeting rooms because there is currently no lobby due to construction--a fact that was never communicated before our arrival. While waiting, we explored the property and were disappointed to discover that the pool is very small and congested, the hotel also does not provide beach access either. We were informed that the small beach area belongs to a private club and hotel guests are not permitted access. There is also virtually nothing within walking distance. After waiting an hour, we politely asked for an update on our rooms since we had been told they were being prioritized. Susan responded dismissively and rudely, saying, "We told you check-in is at 4 PM," completely ignoring the fact that we were only asking for an update based on what we had previously been told. After waiting for awhile and again no update, when asked for update another staff member informed us that our rooms had been cleaned and were simply waiting for inspection. Assuming the inspection would be completed shortly, we continued waiting nearby. At 3:50 PM we checked again and were told the rooms were still awaiting inspection. Despite all of this waiting, we still did not receive our rooms until after the official 4:00 PM check-in time. Even after room was finally ready past official checkin time, we were held up due to change in front desk shift and new employees again asking for ID and cards when we had already provided all of this information at checkin. We would have 100% understood if they had told us that they are at capacity and cannot accommodate early checkin or that early checkin requires fees but none of this was communicated we were only told initially they will "rush" it then rudely told us that check in is at 4pm. I travel for a living and have not had issues at a single facility where I was told a room is being rushed and had to wait 3+ hours. The biggest disappointment came when we finally entered the room. After spending hours waiting for cleaning and inspection, we expected a spotless room. Instead, we found sticky floors, hair in the bathroom, visible dust throughout the room, and an unpleasant odor immediately upon entering. The rooms are noticeably outdated and, once again, look nothing like the professional photos online. The beds are also extremely uncomfortable and sheets have visible stains. The only employees who consistently provided excellent service were the housekeeping staff. They were kind, helpful, and responsive whenever we needed assistance. Unfortunately, the professionalism and hospitality demonstrated by the housekeeping team was not reflected by the front desk or management. For the price this hotel charges, the experience was unacceptable. I have stayed at many luxury hotels, and this was by far the most disappointing. Until management addresses the customer service issues, improves transparency, and better maintains the property, I cannot recommend staying here.

My family and I decided to stay there for Spring Break, and it was our first time visiting the hotel. From the moment we arrived, the valet staff warmly greeted us and opened our doors with such kindness and professionalism. Upon entering the hotel, everyone at the front desk was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Gershorn, the bellman, was especially engaging and extremely helpful with storing our items and assisting us at the front desk. The front desk manager, Itzya, who checked us in, was also very engaging with us and our children. She provided outstanding customer service and made sure we had all the amenities and information we needed since it was our first time staying at the resort. Our room was fantastic, with a beautiful view of the Huntington Beach Pier. We had the opportunity to watch the sunset overlooking the ocean, which was truly remarkable and such a special memory to share with our family. The kids had an absolute blast at the Driftwood Pool. The pool service was amazing as well. The staff frequently checked on us, and our food was brought out in a timely manner. The security team also provided excellent customer service and did a wonderful job ensuring the pool area remained secure. Sean Williams (Security Director) & Jose (Security Manager) did an outstanding job with the security team they created. We also had the pleasure of meeting the general manager, Paulette Fischer, who personally greeted us and made sure our stay was going well. There are not many hotels I have visited where the General Manager personally interacts with guests. Thank you, Paulette, for taking the time to connect with your guests and make them feel welcome. Thank you again to the entire team for making our family vacation such a memorable experience. We truly look forward to returning in the future

Because we booked through a third-party site, we were completely denied any flexibility or accommodation. To make matters worse, I was repeatedly criticized for not booking directly through Hilton instead of receiving any empathy or assistance. As a parent of a 3- and 5-year-old, I am not willing to risk exposing my children to any potential chemical issue, regardless of how many times staff insisted it was "perfectly safe." We are now out $1,400 simply because we chose to prioritize our children's health and safety. I even offered multiple times to pay an additional fee just to reschedule the stay, but was told "policy is policy." For some families, losing $1,400 and a family vacation may not matter. For ours, it absolutely does. The lack of compassion, flexibility, and customer care was shocking. I would give this hotel zero stars if possible. I have since deleted my Hilton Honors account and will strongly discourage friends, family, and community members from staying at Hilton properties in the future. Extremely disappointing experience from start to finish.

I was attending a wedding in Orange County and this hotel was part of the wedding block, which they extended by a day for me. When I arrived after a day of travel from the East Coast that became longer and more adventurous than I cared, it was great to be offered two different types of rooms and be personally shown the difference. I chose one on the Ninth Floor. Everything worked in my room, except the shower head, which apparently had been replaced before and now no longer fit precisely in the clamp not made for this shower head handle. It will need to be replaced again, because it falls to the shower floor when the water is turned off and the buttons on the handle adjust themselves to appear to shut off the water flow. This room on the Ninth Floor was a handicapped room and there was no shower door, so this allowed only a small trickle of water out the opening. This is often a problem in hotels, but not here. The televisions worked properly and the thermostat kept the temperature where you wanted it, another issue at hotels. I actually turned the air conditioning off, given the blanket or comforter is not thick enough with the AC on and the ambient air was comfortable without the AC. The AC unit could run a little quieter when in operation, but was comparatively quiet when measured against other hotels. Housekeeping was dutiful and deserved to be tipped, which I did. She was patient with my morning schedule and semi late breakfasts downstairs. She reset the room properly each day. Speaking of downstairs, they have a good bar serving up drinks with quality jumbo ice cubes. My Manhattan was very good. I had a beer poured cold another day. Each time I had breakfast, I had the Denver Omelet coming with well prepared hash browns. The omelet is a three egg omelet with ham, onions, and mushrooms with cheddar cheese. It's a substantial omelet and breakfast for twenty bucks. Served with ketchup and hot sauce at your option. Service is also quick. Given the hotel's proximate location just ten minutes from SNA and Newport Beach in the other direction, your Uber rides will not be overtaxing. 4.2 stars

For Friday - Sunday of Father's Day weekend, it was around $900 after taxes and fees. I do agree with other reviews that the rooms could use some upgrades based on the price point of the place, but our room (632) didn't have any major visible problems. There are 3 pools on site, with the one nearest our room designated as the one for kids with a water park-like slide, splash pad, and a hot tub. We spent almost all of our time here both days and our son loved it. The pool water was really cold, however, but that's to be expected when it's barely in the 70s outside. Just be aware there aren't any lifeguards anywhere. It was at this pool where a lot of the daytime activities were held like limbo, twister, and tattoos/bracelets for kids. We were able to find chairs both days without an issue. The poolside bar and food prices weren't bad. The day we spent the most, I think it came out to around $100 with tip for 3 mixed drinks, a kid's meal, and some chips and queso. We all loved our son's PB&J meal. We ate multiple meals at the restaurant, but sat in the bar area since it was more kid-friendly. There were kids in the restaurant, but it was a very upscale vibe and we didn't want our rowdy toddler disturbing anyone, so we sat in the bar area at the same table for every meal. That worked out because we could watch the World Cup games in there. The restaurant food was surprisingly good and fair on price for quality and quantity. We were really surprised by all of that. I ate the same salad twice because I loved it so much, and my husband and son loved the burgers. The breakfast burritos were bomb, too. I don't know why so many people complain about the self-parking situation. The "hill" people were referencing in reviews I read ended up not even being steep enough to be called a ramp, let alone a hill, and was maybe 1.5-2 basketball courts away from the front door?? The parking lot is super close to the front door if you park on the side nearest there (which is furthest from where you swipe your room key to get in), and we had no trouble at all getting our bags inside from there. Make sure you park on the circle drive first and go in and get your room key because you have to have that to swipe into the parking lot. We were a 12-15 min. drive from the beach and even closer to Balboa. We went near the beach the 1st day to watch the game and walked around, but honestly stayed on the property the rest of the time because there was plenty to do there. Some of the other activities my son enjoyed were cotton candy and face painting. We'd definitely stay here again!

The pool area was definitely my favorite place to spend the day. There are three pools and hot tubs (particularly a very large hot tub in the main pool area). It was also incredibly family friendly with a slide and lots of space for kids to swim and play while still offering quieter spots for adults to relax with a book or enjoy the sunshine. Newport is such a cute area, but I loved not having to leave the hotel to have a good time. I would definitely go back to this property for another staycation sometime!

There's essentially no self-parking on the hotel grounds. Your options are either valet or hunt for street parking blocks away and hoping you get lucky with something closer. The added catch? Street parking is only free from 6:00 PM to 8:00AM. Not a huge deal if you're up early, but it becomes an inconvenience when you want to sleep in, enjoy breakfast, or simply relax on vacation. Then there's valet. $70 per night. Seriously? You're parking my car 20 feet away on the curb or in a lot that could be used for self-parking. I've stayed at luxury hotels in Las Vegas that charge closer to $40. If there's no practical self-parking option, valet should be included for hotel guests or at least offered at a more reasonable rate or throw in a sale-parking fee with all the additional charges I'm about to get to in a sec. Guest are hit with additional fees like a destination fee and local tourism fee. Local tourism fee??? This is Newport Beach, not a private island resort. Relax. The hotel itself is great, but the parking situation and nickel and diming guests with extra fees definitely leave a bad taste at the end of your trip and makes you second guess about coming back for another stay.
