Love this place. We come every year for a tennis tournament at the adjacent tennis club and thoroughly enjoy our time at the hotel. Love the rooms, pools, views, gym, and mini golf course (altho it was too hot to golf this visit). The staff is fantastic and the venue is lovely. They acknowledge our Hyatt status and treat us well. Last visit we took advantage of bikes they have and rode around the nearby canyon - super fun. It was too hot this visit to take advantage of any extra circular activities other than using the pools. I was in town for a company event and decided to stay overnight in Newport Beach rather than drive 1.5 hours back to Encino at night. I booked less than a week before the event and got a very favorable rate. The rooms are rather tired and dated and could use a refurb, but they were clean and well-maintained. The A/C worked very well and was quiet, which was much appreciated given that my stay was in the middle of a muggy heat wave where it didn't drop below 80 at night. I didn't use the pools (there are 3) but they looked like they were kept in good condition. The bar next to the reception area was excellent. The service was excellent. I called the morning of check-in to request an early check-in and they found a room for me right away. Check-in was quick and efficient and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Online check-out was a piece of cake. The dated rooms were a bit of a negative, but the biggest negative keeping me from giving the property 5 stars was the self-parking. The lot is across from the property and you have to hike up a steep hill and meander through one of the crowded pool areas to reach the lobby, which is a pain in the butt if you're toting a rolling bag. Notwithstanding that one issue, I would absolutely stay here again for more than one night and avail myself of all this hotel has to offer. read more

We had an excellent visit! Arrived on 8/11 around 930 am. I believe the lady checking us in was Beverly but I might be wrong. She was wonderful! Very friendly and helpful, we even talked about Disneyland a bit. She got us checked in right away and our room was ready which was awesome because we had driven in right from Vegas. Such a beautiful resort! It reminded me of a mix of hacienda and coastal. The room was very nice, spacious, and I love how the room look out onto the pool. We hung out at the pool for a bit and it was so relaxing. Lots of chairs, towels and water. They do walk around for food and drinks but we had just had lunch. We hung out at the bar at night and it was packed. Great drinks and baseball game on, we will definitely be back here. We only stayed one night as we headed to Disneyland the next day. read more

This place was a hit for my fam of 3 (2 adults and 1 3 y/o boy). We're local outside of LA, but wanted to do a staycation for Father's Day. For Friday - Sunday of Father's Day weekend, it was around $900 after taxes and fees. I do agree with other reviews that the rooms could use some upgrades based on the price point of the place, but our room (632) didn't have any major visible problems. There are 3 pools on site, with the one nearest our room designated as the one for kids with a water park-like slide, splash pad, and a hot tub. We spent almost all of our time here both days and our son loved it. The pool water was really cold, however, but that's to be expected when it's barely in the 70s outside. Just be aware there aren't any lifeguards anywhere. It was at this pool where a lot of the daytime activities were held like limbo, twister, and tattoos/bracelets for kids. We were able to find chairs both days without an issue. The poolside bar and food prices weren't bad. The day we spent the most, I think it came out to around $100 with tip for 3 mixed drinks, a kid's meal, and some chips and queso. We all loved our son's PB&J meal. We ate multiple meals at the restaurant, but sat in the bar area since it was more kid-friendly. There were kids in the restaurant, but it was a very upscale vibe and we didn't want our rowdy toddler disturbing anyone, so we sat in the bar area at the same table for every meal. That worked out because we could watch the World Cup games in there. The restaurant food was surprisingly good and fair on price for quality and quantity. We were really surprised by all of that. I ate the same salad twice because I loved it so much, and my husband and son loved the burgers. The breakfast burritos were bomb, too. I don't know why so many people complain about the self-parking situation. The "hill" people were referencing in reviews I read ended up not even being steep enough to be called a ramp, let alone a hill, and was maybe 1.5-2 basketball courts away from the front door?? The parking lot is super close to the front door if you park on the side nearest there (which is furthest from where you swipe your room key to get in), and we had no trouble at all getting our bags inside from there. Make sure you park on the circle drive first and go in and get your room key because you have to have that to swipe into the parking lot. We were a 12-15 min. drive from the beach and even closer to Balboa. We went near the beach the 1st day to watch the game and walked around, but honestly stayed on the property the rest of the time because there was plenty to do there. I recently attended a concert at the amphitheater for the first time, and it was such a great experience. The outdoor venue is the perfect size (not too big) so you have a good view of the stage no matter where you're seating. Though I didn't stay at the hotel, I was impressed by the level of service. From the moment I walked through the lobby to ordering drinks at the bar, everyone I encountered was so welcoming and friendly. My daughter buys me a birthday pool pass every year. It's the best gift! I get to relax, in quiet at the adult pool and Serenity Pool, while looking at blue sky, palm trees, and tropical atmosphere. I can order food and drinks through scan with my phone, or walk up to the pool and snack bar. I like to come in the morning to start with a coffee drink and a book. If you want more richness and privacy you can book a private cabana with tv and curtains for extra $$. Free parking is included. Super friendly service! Julia and Paige treated me like royalty! They suggested a blueberry pomegranate slush, with or without alcohol. Amazing and delicious! Thank you ladies! Excellent service and attending to me! I decided to stay at the Hyatt Regency for Memorial Day weekend. The front desk staff has been very friendly, the service from everyone so far has been excellent, and I will say the room itself was nice. It was clean and comfortable, with convenient amenities like a mini fridge, blow dryer, shampoo and conditioner, reliable internet, and an easy valet system where you simply text for your car. You can also text to request towels or other items, which was very convenient. Unfortunately, the biggest issue has been the overwhelming smell throughout the property where the guest rooms are located. The odor is extremely strong and smells like mildew or fertilizer to the point that it has been making me physically uncomfortable. When I asked about it, I was told the entire property had recently been fertilized, which is apparently causing the smell. I genuinely do not understand why this would be scheduled during a busy holiday weekend when guests are paying premium rates to enjoy the property and outdoor areas. The smell is unavoidable throughout the walkways leading to the rooms and even around the pool area, making it difficult to relax or enjoy the amenities. As I'm writing this, the odor is still overwhelming. For the service alone, I would give this hotel 5 stars. The staff has truly been excellent. However, I deducted 2 stars solely because the horrendous smell completely ruined the ability to enjoy the outdoor areas, including the pool and outdoor fireplace areas, which are a major part of the experience here. I will say, as I was checking out now, John was nice enough to waive the resort fees given the smell and that was greatly appreciated. read more

I didn't get my room for a few hours. The hotel grounds were nice and huge. Lots of walking to get to run, trainings, etc. The rooms were a little dated. The Hyatt hotel in Newport Beach is located on Jamboree and is right against the Back Bay so it's very conveniently located next to Fashion Island as well as for recreation in the Back Bay. It's also only like 10min from SNA Orange County Airport. The rooms were semi-recently renovated, the staff is nice and helpful, and best of all the grounds of the hotel are gorgeous with tons to do! The hotel offers activities such as movie nights and also hosts Newport Beach wide events such as the Jazz festival. There are multiple pools at the hotel and one has a splashed and waterslide which is super fun for kids! They have a giant chess board, shuffleboard, tennis courts, pickleball courts and also a golf course that is all complimentary to use if you're a hotel guest! It is Valet or self park only and the parking rates are a bit high, the rooms don't have the best sound-proofing and the hotel restaurant isn't that good; but those are really the only negatives about the hotel. I have stayed here and had my family stay here multiple times and everyone always enjoys it and wants to come back! read more

For the past six years, I have stayed in the same room at Hyatt Regency Newport Beach during the annual Newport Jazz Festival. Because we reserve the same room year after year, I've had the opportunity to see the condition of these rooms decline over time. Unfortunately, this year's stay has been especially disappointing. The lack of deep cleaning behind furniture and fixtures is very noticeable, and quite honestly, the condition of the room is unacceptable for the premium rates charged during this event. Friday through Monday stays during the festival are far from inexpensive. One recurring issue is the refrigerator, which has never worked properly. We report it every year, yet the problem remains unresolved year after year. As loyal guests, we expect better. At these prices, guests should receive accommodations that are clean, well-maintained, and fully functional. If improvements aren't made, we will seriously reconsider where we stay for future Newport Jazz Festivals. It's definitely time for some renovations, Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. read more

Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is the kind of hotel that makes you feel like you're on vacation. My friend and I recently stayed for a mini staycation and had a great time. The property has multiple pools, cozy fire pits, a cute restaurant with decent food, and even a golf course. It was easy for us to settle in and enjoy ourselves and relax without ever leaving. Our room was comfortable and well maintained. While there were a few cosmetic updates that I noticed could be made, the overall experience was excellent and these didn't detract from our experience. The pool area was definitely my favorite place to spend the day. There are three pools and hot tubs (particularly a very large hot tub in the main pool area). It was also incredibly family friendly with a slide and lots of space for kids to swim and play while still offering quieter spots for adults to relax with a book or enjoy the sunshine. Newport is such a cute area, but I loved not having to leave the hotel to have a good time. I would definitely go back to this property for another staycation sometime! read more

Really disappointing stay, especially for what we paid and what we expected from this hotel. We booked a 10-day stay and had a nice room booked, but our flight was unexpectedly canceled and we had to arrive a day later. When we got there, we were told they canceled our (prepaid) reservation. We explained that our flight was canceled last minute, but they said if we didn't contact them by a certain time, they cancel the room and charge us for the first night. We had no idea this was their policy. We even called about it and were basically told there was nothing they could do. So basically, they have an undisclosed policy where you have to contact them by a certain time, but they don't tell you when. We had stayed previously at other hotels in the area and had our arrival delayed because of a canceled flight, and they never canceled our reservation. They also no longer had our original room, so we were given a downgraded room, with the receptionist saying, "We don't have that room anymore." The man at the front desk was not friendly at all and made us feel like we were bothering him. The room itself was also disappointing. For what I expected to be a luxury hotel, it honestly felt more like a motel. Our room was a connecting room and we could constantly hear people next door stomping, yelling, and making noise. Room service was another issue. I ordered a pizza and two waters after seeing on their website that the water was free. When the food arrived, the waters were $10 EACH. I called the front desk and talked to a man who sounded like the receptionist from check-in and was told someone would call me back, but nobody did. I called him back again and still didn't get a call back after being told that for a second time. Eventually, I called for the third time and a very nice woman helped me and got someone from the food department involved. They discounted the meal, but I never got an explanation for why the website said the water was free but I was charged for it. Another night, I went to the restaurant myself to avoid the 20% room service surcharge. I ordered skirt steak tacos, but they gave me chicken tacos instead and told me that's what I ordered. I had to wait 40 minutes for one order of tacos, while the rest of the food I ordered got cold. They also forgot my sauce, so I had to wait even longer for that. When I finally got back to the room, one of the tacos literally had two pieces of steak in it. I'll attach a picture. I also called the restaurant another time to ask a question, and the lady on the phone seemed like she was playing a game with me pretending she couldn't hear me. When I asked if she could hear me, she said yes in a very rude tone and was rude for the rest of the conversation. The hotel restaurant is very overpriced for mediocre food and poor service. Even leaving the hotel was frustrating. We used one card to pay for the room and another card for the fees, as the receptionist told us we had to do. We were specifically told the second card would only be used for those charges. About a week after leaving, that card was charged another $500. When we called, they said it was for additional fees because that was the card they had on file. We explained what we had been told, but never really got a clear answer. They claimed they didn't have another card on file, even though the majority of the charges were paid for with the other card. Overall, this was just a really disappointing experience from beginning to end. There were issues with the reservation, room, service, food, charges, and communication. For the price of this hotel, I expected a completely different experience. I would not stay here again and would honestly recommend spending your money somewhere else. read more

We had a nice stay here. The property almost felt like a resort! I loved that our room had a balcony and was close to one of their three pools. The pool we enjoyed was the serenity pool, which is supposed to be one of the more quiet ones. They play relaxing music and it was pretty low key when we were there. I don't know why they just don't make this pool adults only though because a couple times people brought little kids and it didn't really seem appropriate for the vibe they were trying to create. There were also kids on scooters going around the pool right in front of people's doors late at night which I think should shouldn't be allowed. Overall it's super family friendly though! The main pool had a slide and they even had a family movie night the evening we stayed. Our room was just OK. Beds were comfortable but our mini fridge wasn't really working and there was a huge spider that came out of our shower. Don't expect luxury, but overall it was decent and the room was clean. I liked the fire pits and large games available throughout the property. The front desk staff and bartenders were very friendly. We didn't try any of the restaurants but you are able to order postmates to your room which was nice. The grounds of this hotel make you feel like you are somewhere else! Very green and lush with plants and trees. Golf carts are available to to take you around if you self park ($40!). We walked to Balboa Island from the hotel which took us about 20 mins. I would stay here again and recommend it if you are looking for a little staycation. read more

For the second time, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach to attend a concert. While the quality of the Summer Concert Series is truly amazing and the Back Bay Amphitheater is a fabulous venue, the actual hotel is old, tired, and desperately needs a facelift. It is not up to par with other Hyatt properties. The curtains in every room we saw, were torn, stained, or in a state of disrepair. When we opened the door to our room, which was stuck, we saw carpet tape holding down torn and worn carpet at the door itself. The paint in the room was chipping in several places, the furniture was old and well worn. The bathroom layout made no sense. There was a large room where the sink was located but the toilet area was very very closely situated to the sliding doors of the shower. There was barely any room at all to use the toilet. The entire hotel needs a complete repainting and overall update of outdoor furniture and amenities. In the afternoon, the only restaurant was closed for lunch. Customers could order a lunch in the small bar area. The staff, beginning with the valet and check in clerk seemed distracted and somewhat bothered to do their jobs. We walked to the concert venue to check it out when we first arrived at the hotel and were scolded by an employees because we were standing for about 30 seconds on the walkway. We were told to either proceed through the venue without stopping on the path or turn around and go back. That hotel employee was rude and not customer service focused. While we will definitely attend more concerts during the Summer Concert Season, but we will stay at a different area hotel going forward. read more

There's good and bad about this hotel. We stayed here because we have a boat in the marina that is right across the street. The hotel grounds are very big and the do a nice job of maintaining the facility. We paid extra for an ocean/marina view and had neighbors who were extremely loud, partying and threw their trash around the hotel at 7am. This seems to be a place where people come for parties or events and wasn't as relaxing as we had hoped. As far as the room it was more of a 3 Star experience. The bed was uncomfortable with thin sheets, walls were thin and very loud inside. We expected a lot more from this property. Employees are nice and good food and beverage options. Unless we had to stay here we will try another hotel in the area. read more

The fitness center pool was too cold for laps on this visit so I skipped it. I also watched several guests check the hot tub and walk away. It was barely lukewarm and the jets were not running. Afterward I looked through recent reviews and saw the same complaints going back months, so this does not seem like a one day issue. If you come here mainly for the pool and spa, this matters. I was extremely disappointed with my stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. At around $500 per night, I expected a much higher standard of accommodations. Instead, I was placed in the LIDO building, where the room was old, dated, and in serious need of renovation. If you're considering booking a stay here, I would strongly recommend avoiding the LIDO building. I've stayed at several other Hyatt properties, and the rooms and amenities have consistently been much more modern and well-maintained. This experience fell far below what I've come to expect from the Hyatt brand. The only reason I'm giving this hotel 3 stars instead of 1 is because the customer service was excellent. The staff was friendly, professional, and did their best to provide a positive experience despite the condition of the room. For the price, this hotel simply doesn't offer the value I'd expect. Until the older rooms are updated, I can't recommend staying here--especially in the LIDO building. read more

They should state that somewhere on the website. The worst part was racist guests! They were horrible and rude against my family who are Mexican. Had to call security twice! If you stay here and looking for a King sized bed, do not stay in the building facing the Bay club. The bay club is the biggest pool with kids slide and cabanas. The walls are so thin and you hear kids screaming and people running around and walking past your door. I don't recommend this part of the property. It was so hard to get sleep because families are at the pool all day or are staying near by. The rest of the property is fine. The restaurant is decent. I had a burger and sweet potato fries which were surprisingly good. The fitness center is small considering how big the property is. Balboa island is a quick walk from the property which is convenient. read more

Overnight outdoor parking was pretty steep at $40 and there weren't any alternatives. You have to go up a slight hill to get back to the lobby from the parking.
