You have to navigate through some one-way streets, but parking is easy and there's a back door to the hotel right from the parking lot. NO parking fees! I really like the personal service from Sean who was very personable and helpful. I called to see if I could check in early, and he was very accommodating. It is. How do you feel feeling? A little bit, but I did. The room was very clean and the bed was a little too soft for me, but my sister said her's was fine. They had a few items for a continental breakfast, but there are many restaurants within a mile. We got a room on the opposite side of PCH and did not hear any noise from the highway. Wow, What a nice place to stay if you are planning a weekend at the beach. First off, customer service is great here. The general manager SHAUN was our host for the time we stayed and very accommodating. Our room was very clean, nicely decorated. I felt really comfortable here. I would definitely be comeback in the near future hands down . The Inn literally a 3 minute walk and you touch sand and then you see the ocean and horizon. From our room you can smell a hint of the ocean when you open the sliding door to your balcony room. The Ocean surf Inn is the neighborhood of sunset beach and is a low key area so it's quiet . There are a few restaurants and bars that are walking distance and also near a gas station with decent prices on gas. There is parking , but the spaces can get a little tight, if you have a bigger vehicle, might want to consider parking in the street but check with management first . Our room had a mini freezer/fridge and microwave! Which we love because we always have leftovers and drinks we need to store. The flatscreen was a decent size and had the basic TV channels and some movie channels (HBO) etc. water pressure in the shower was strong and the A/C worked perfectly fine. Our king sized bed was just how I liked it, a tiny bit firm where I don't sink in and so soft . Thy do have a roof top patio I didn't get to enjoy but I'll keep a note for nextime I come. Cute little place only has 30 rooms and I had the best room. It was like a King Suite with Jacuzzi and the only room with a balcony view of the ocean with no houses blocking the view. The room was decent. The floors were dirty, the jacuzzi wasn't cleaned out, and there were homeless in the parking garage which me uncomfortable. The place was decently centrally located from all the places I wanted to visit which was great. 20miles outside of Los Angeles. And the breakfast was great, even though it wasn't self serve. read more

Absolutely THE best little hotel I've stayed at in recent memory! Took a little family vacation before our daughter went to school. The location is only a street away from the beach and a distance away from major surf communities so traffic wasn't awful. Once we got here, Shawn was quick to check us in and give us some pointers about parking (see my tip). Our room was super cute and very beachy. Basic hotel toiletries were available. Room was VERY clean! Room was quiet, roof top patio was charming and in between cars cruising the main street, you could hear the waves crashing. There is a continental breakfast available (cereal cups, fruit, yogurt, pancakes). There's even beach supplies for guests to use - donated by prior guests. Afternoons, parking is nutty as people park behind the hotel for the beach. There's a few parking spots under the hotel for hotel guests, but it's minimal and extremely tight. I was really looking forward to my stay on the beach. I have not been to a California beach in over 15 years.. I love the beach and that part of my vacation was beautiful, but the hotel was terrible. I don't know how it possibly got that many stars. The floors were so dirty. I had to wash my feet before I could get into bed so I don't get the sheets all black. I also had a roach crawling on the wall in my room, which is disgusting. Also, for some reason, it had a very foul odor throughout the hallway that almost smelled of urine. Their continental breakfast is like none I have ever seen. It is not a buffet where you help yourself. It is a man who pours milk for your cereal from a big container into a cup for you as well as your orange juice or anything else you want to drink (besides coffee). I like my milk in a sealed container. I don't know these people...that is odd. there is no bacon and no eggs, just cereal, danishes, and pancakes and bananas. That was it. The coffee in the room had packages of creamer that was so old that they were no longer powder. It was all stuck together. I would never stay here again, and I would never recommend it to anyone I know. I only stayed for two nights and then moved on to a different hotel. I couldn't stay there any longer. Beyond disappointed. I booked a Ocean King View for Christmas getaway with my mom. Our room was given to someone else whwn we arrived to check in. After 40 plus minutes waiting to check in, the solution from the front desk was to move someone else out of their room. After 40 minutes waiting to check in already, we did not want to wait for someone else to move out and then have room cleaned. We were put in a two bed room with no view. It was disgusting. Headboards had food and grease on them along with the mini fridge. So so dirty. I also made the mistake to ask for toilet paper bothering the front desk from time on his cell phone. The location was wonderful with it so close to the beach. But the room itself was disgustingly dirty. When we walked in room it had a horrible smell like mold which we found small portions in the fridge,ac vents and on the sheer curtains. Our beds had sand in them and on the floor upon arrival. Upon check-in our sheets were covered in sand. Staff member admitted that sheets are not changed between guests. Lamps and fixtures are filthy, bedding is very worn, bedding is stained with obvious biological fluids, bathroom tub has no drain plug, shower head sprays outside of enclosure and is not adjustable, and balcony railing on 3rd floor was extremely unstable and pulling away from building. Owners are snarky and unresponsive. Refused a partial refund, ignored our complaints and then wished us a "blessed day" after we paid $200 a night. read more

A cute inn close to the beach. It's quiet from the room despite being right off PCH. Free parking in garage plus overflow parking all behind the building. There was a little bit of sand in our bed at check in like it got washed with sandy towels or something. The floor was super sandy too even after they cleaned our room the first night. I was so happy to find Ocean Surf Inn & Suites for a recent trip to southern California. I grew up in California and spent 20 years living in the Huntington Beach area. Going to the beach was part of our life. Moving to Arizona 13 years ago means when we come home to visit, I would at least like to try and get my feet into the ocean. It doesn't always happen, but we try. Most of the time the reason this doesn't happen is that it's getting nearly impossible to find parking down by the beach. I know, I've spent way too many precious minutes looking for a place to park, just so I could spend what was left of those minutes running down to the water. I've done that too. So if we were going to spend two whole days visiting family, I wanted a hotel that did two things: Put me on the beachside of Pacific Coast Highway and Didn't cost a small fortune. Ocean Surf Inn & Suites checked both boxes. We had an ocean-facing room, which meant a peek-a-boo view between the mansions facing the beach, but that was it. The only thing standing between me and the ocean, besides the mansions, was the free but good luck finding a spot parking. The room was big, with room on both sides of the bed so one person isn't having to crawl off the foot of the bed to get out of bed. That's the worst. There was ample 'counter' space in the room for purses, wallets, shopping bags, whatever with a table and two chairs, a desk with a chair, and a nice piece of furniture under the flat-screen TV housing the mini-fridge and microwave. The bathroom was big and it had a fan. It seems like every hotel bathroom should have a fan, but they don't. So when there is one, I make a note of it. I liked the sink with the high faucet too, since we're going to be filling a coffee pot, it makes sense to have a faucet the coffee pot fits under. Breaking a coffee pot in a hotel sink first thing in the morning is not the way to start a day. Trust me. Parking is tight, so please be mindful of other guests who are there for the same reason you are - so you have a parking place close to the beach. (And we all paid for a parking space too.) Checking in is a bit old school. There's a window near the front doors with an old school phone. You pick it up to let them know you're there and someone comes to let you in. This makes sense to me since it's not a large hotel and there probably aren't guests coming and going so much it requires someone manning a desk at all times. Being a small hotel, I'm betting the employees are wearing more than one hat apiece - and doing a great job ;) Small hotel or staff, this place was clean, and the staff was wonderful. Love this hotel!!! As we are still not allowed back into our residence due to a construction incident that left our unit heavily damaged with no power, we've been staying in hotels for a few days. Needing a room for the night I called this Inn and was in contact with Ralph. Ralph was awesome and helped us get the best room so far during this difficult time. Our room was AWESOME!!! The room was Clean and and the bed was comfortable, the view was outstanding, and when we went for a walk to get dinner we didn't have to cross PCH which can be dangerous sometimes. Our suite had a jacuzzi in it which helped our stressed out bodies. The shower had great water pressure and plenty hot water. This hotel has a awesome rooftop lounge that has the best views!! The hotel provided a free grab and go breakfast that had muffins, coffee, cereals etc. it was much appreciated. We really enjoyed our stay here. Many thanks to Ralph for being awesome person and helping us through this trying time. Today we find out if our place passed inspection and we'll be allowed back in. Came here couple years ago (honeymoon) and we fell in love with it. So we booked again. We just love it here. Beds and pillows are comfy. Place is close to the beach! Only downside is that they left previous guest shampoo/ conditioner behind. Treseme brand (already opened) and dollar tree shampoo/ conditioner left behind. And also the vending (snacks/soda) machines food were all expired. Some were months and drinks were a year expired. Other than that, everything was perfect. read more

What a cute place to stay with only a few steps to the ocean! We've been living in AZ the past few years and miss the beach, so this was a great treat to be so close to HB and the ocean again. We went for Thanksgiving and stayed 2 nights. The room was quiet and felt larger than most hotel rooms, bed comfy (I think it had a pillow top) and hot water for showers. The blue walls made this simple small hotel feel warm, cozy, and inviting. I loved the staircase too. For breakfast, you go to a little area and request the items you want and they hand it to you. Parking isn't an issue because it has an attached structure or street parking is free. Staff was accomodating and friendly. Followers, friends and anyone else who wants to read what I have to say, I don't recommend Ocean Surf Inn and & Suites AT ALL!!!! I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. Found this place on a third party website...if it wasn't for third party websites, I would never have found some of the greatest Mom and Pop places around the world. One would think a business would be delighted to offer discounted prices AND use the opportunity to attract potentially repeat customers...Sighhh...this place was a huge miss. Often, third party websites require a customer to pay at the time of booking. This time, I wasn't required to pay in advance. I was able to book and pay upon arrival..I booked a room at this place for 3 nights at the advertised price, (which was a bit high, however it was a 3 day weekend.) We arrived at 2:50pm the day of our reservation.We were told it was going to be another 40min for our room to be ready....UMMMMM...ok....what happened to 3pm check in??? Whatever... we waited. After 40 minutes, we met with the person I presumed to be the innkeeper. He took my payment in full, secured a deposit on my credit card, handed us the keys to our room and a parking pass. After the long drive and waiting in the heat, we were anxious to unload our bags and freshen up before our evening obligations. Grrrrr...this guy gave us the worst room in the whole place. I felt like I was in the storage room. No ocean breeze, (no breeze at ALL), view of a neighboring door and a wall, and the chemical fumes from the room just being cleaned were noxious. I went down to speak with the Innkeeper who graciously allowed us to change to a room with an ocean breeze and patio. Alas, this room was only available for 2/3 nights we had planned to stay. It was agreed I would change to another room or shorten my trip to just 2 nights if the room continued to be unavailable on our 3rd night. I offered to pay any additional fees for the patio room and the innkeeper declined. The clean, made up room with no chemical smells, a patio and a breeze was a reasonable alternative and it was available now! Alas, the room didn't have a lock on the door, the towels were worn thin, the screen door took some muscle to move and there was something under the bathroom sink that resembled a rodent dropping. The morning after our second night, I went downstairs to speak with the office staff. The gentleman I had been working with previously was not available, but a female staff was in his place. This lovely woman reported the innkeeper could not be reached. After looking at her schedule she offered me a room with a view upstairs. I had already decided if I had to move rooms, I would just go home; I didn't want the hassle. Ultimately she agreed we could stay in our established room for the 3rd night. She asked if we wanted housekeeping services today and it was agreed, we would stay in the established room, receive maid service and check out the next day. No extra charges were discussed or taken at this time. Fast forward to 7pm...our keys had been deactivated and we couldn't even get into the building. Are you KIDDING ME??? I called the innkeeper who informed me our keys had indeed been deactivated because the issue of the 3rd night had not been resolved. He instructed me to meet him at the garage entrance to the building. When we explained the conversation with the morning staff, he reported the morning staff should not have given permission for us to stay in the room...because it was only her second day. Additionally, he had entered the room, found our stuff "all over the place." The bottom line was this guy was hijacking's us and our stuff for an additional $71.49. Only then would h reactivate our keys. I couldn't have felt more swindled... My efforts to argue were fruitless...he stated, "it was only her second day...I need at least one day off, you should have talked to me anyway." (Nice...don't back up your staff...) Fine...I was too tired and worn out to argue so I paid the extra $71.49. So all and all, our Tuesday-Friday stay at this motel was almost $200 a night. Grrr....The HILTON on the WATER was cheaper. Honestly folks, pass this place up. read more

We visited Long Beach in April 2023 and chose Ocean Surf Inn as our hotel. We had covered parking but there were enough spaces on the street if the lot was full. The room was simple but very clean. We had a nice porch with a view of the ocean from across the street. There are houses there but you could still see ocean liners in the distance. They have a nice rooftop area for guests with chairs and tables. It was a very easy walk to the beach. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. An easy drive to long beach, seal beach and Huntington beach. They had plenty of grab and go breakfast food and coffee available for guests. We were pleased and would stay again. read more

An unpleasant experience mainly due to the "general manager." Here's the story... We booked 4, rooms, 2 nights. I put down the damage deposit& told GM Shaun, "At my age i didn't my party too much & always treated accommodations as my own." I was just trying to be friendly. His then lectured me about how most damage is not done maliciously like the woman who stayed there with her kids who damaged the TV set. Then proceeded in detail about a man who had a nosebleed, which ruined the pillow, and they charged him for it. TMI inappropriate GM. Long drive, I'm holding 4 bags & a roller, and just wanted to my room. One group in our family had to cancel 1 of .w nights. of the two nights. They emailed the GM ahead of time. He responded that he had taken care of it. They arrived to find he had canceled the entire booking, and there were no other rooms available. They showed him the email, he agreed he made a mistake. Sorry! No more rooms. No refund of any kind, no offer to help them find a room nearby, and no offer to compensate them for this gross error which caused extreme inconvenience. Unacceptable to make a huge error AND leave the customer stranded. The drove all the way back home. The next morning, the GM was preparing for continental breakfast at 7:00 am in a tiny room by the lobby. Employees hand food to you from the doorway and then you can sit at the one table and two chairs provided in the lobby where there is self-serve coffee and water. There was no one else to ask questions, so of our group opened the door slightly & asked him something. He told her to shut the door that only staff can enter. Very rude. She didn't enter the room. How else are you supposed to communicate? The same GM, while I was waiting for the family to meet me in the lobby, is coming down the stairs, saw me on my cellphone and asked me why I didn't use the house phone hanging on the wall. I said it's easier to just use my cell phone because most of us don't know each other's phone number anymore. Aren't you the one who asked for the plunger?" Plunger? No. "Oh, that must've been someone else." (Ended up being one in our group) Maybe that sounds picky, but it was uncomfortable that he overshared, was appropriate, and not very friendly for someone is the hospitality business. I told him that they can't go without a toilet, and it must be fixed that day. He gave her a plunger so she could plunge it herself! Are you kidding me? That's his job! If he can't fix it he should call a plumber. When we met again in the lobby to leave for an outing, we mentioned the fact that we are guests, and it's not our job to repair fixtures that should be working. GM explained that he had just changed that toilet a year ago and he knows because he did it himself, and it was working fine, and it's almost brand new. Inappropriate! Who wants the history of the toilet? Just fix it. The room itself was decent... clean, with desired amenities: refrigerator, microwave, oven, and a TV. There were greasy fingerprints at the top of the headboard. I shudder to think what it might have been .... Please don't forget to clean there! UGH The shower was floor slippery...add the shower gel provided ... a slip & fall risk. I didn't like the traffic noise in my room or the loud noises from the upstairs toilet flushing & shower running. They do offer beach towels, chairs, frisbees, etc. for guests. Nice amenity. We enjoyed the sitting area on the roof. I give the hotel a 3.5 rating, but due to lack of hospitality, a 2 is all I could muster. None of us will be back! read more

I was looking for an overnight place that wasn't too fancy, and close to the things I was wanting to do. The parking here is easy. This is so awesomely close to the beach; just a quick little walk, on a nice path. The room I had was great. Clean, and came with a fridge and microwave and hair dryer ( I used them all) There is a rooftop area to sit, or look at a partial view of the ocean. I saw the ships out in the distance, and enjoyed the breeze, and in the morning went back up to see the sunrise. The manager, Shaun, is really nice and we chatted a couple times. A simple breakfast, and on to my next day. I must say I was very pleased with my stay! read more

Super cute hotel. Clean, efficiently designed rooms. The shower is a stand-alone in the room, which has a separate water closet. The bed was quite comfortable but lower to the floor than a standard bed, almost futon height. Very helpful staff. I arrived very late (1AM) and was still able to check in. Uber tiny parking lot, but street parking is plentiful and free on Sundays. It's almost on the beach, literally steps away. Nearby are a supermarket, fuel, small eateries, and a 7-11, which is helpful for early morning caffeine infusions. read more

We truly enjoyed our one night stay at this location. Aside from the hotel needing a little TLC, the rooms were decent and just steps to Sunset Beach. Because of the pandemic, I took precautions by sanitizing all hard surfaces inside of the room, just in case. Overall, our stay was comfortable, convenient, and the workers were friendly. Parking was free but was a little difficult fitting in the spaces they provided. There's also free parking right outside of the hotel. They also offered free continental breakfast which was ok. No one bothered us allowing us to relax. The hotel is smaller and cute and almost literally on the beach. There are places to sit outside of the rooms and even on the roof. This is a place you put on your map for times when you're in the neighborhood. We've been staying up north at the foot of the San Gabriels and the weather has been mercilessly hot, like you don't touch the steering wheel of your car in the middle of the day. Screw that. Headed to the coast for the weekend, just in time for the US Open of the International Surfing competition, this being the largest such event in the world for this circuit. i was misinformed that there would be a big wave event so i didn't bother getting my board off the car (lol). Hey Mavericks happens too but nothing like that in HB, surf city is strictly for the scene and the waves are polite all things considered. Most of the old surfer motels i used to stay at along pch are long gone in HB today, replaced by the usual array of big chain hotels. But just up the road in sunset bch is this place which is the best low priced (well, approx 250 or so/nite which is a deal on weekends) motel i've seen lately, other than those in the middle of the the cultural meltdown that makes up most of los angeles, way better than airbnb anywhere around here. Good local restaurants if you don't feel like driving, and as for that when you're here there's a parking spot for you. great wide beach about 100 yards away. Shaun the GM is great at what he does, I don't know what's with the comments that he's rude, no way no how, this guy had as much information and goodwill as you could ever ask for. best of all, about a block away on pch is a real friendly surfer bar, more fun in a meet up with girls hanging outside for half an hour than in an entire evening in one of the sophisto bars in my home neighborhood. all this plus that big unfathomable pacific ocean timelessly hulking and heaving a block away makes me think maybe i've been in northern california way too long now. read more

My husband & I had an amazing anniversary celebration trip here, even though we are somewhat local since we are only a few cities away, this place made us feel like we were in another town... the rates were great as well as our room! We had the jacuzzi room & it was amazing! This place also offers a continental breakfast, beach toys & stuff to enjoy, & even has a cute little book section to borrow books for the beach or to enjoy on their beautiful roof top patio/balcony... It feels so cozy & peaceful! Over all we love this place & will definitely recommend it to friends & families! Keep up all the great work Ocean Surf Inn!
