Great dining spot in the area I heard about from my friends who's a regular here. Staff was very nice to give us a large seating area since we went with group of 5 and had helmets/backpacks to put down. They refilled our soda, water, and coffee very quick when they saw it empty! They kept refilling until I gestured I'm done after I drank my sprite the third time; amazing service without getting in your face. My partner and I had sweet potato fries and the serving size was good for the price. The serving sizes other menu items my friends ordered were very good as well. Just wow. A chicken fried steak breakfast made from actual cubed steak! Nice beef flavour and the gravy wasn't too thick at just the right portion for my preference. I like good gravy as much as the next person, but don't like it when it drowns everything on the plate. It was particularly good on top of the hash browns and enough to dip my rye toast in it. Came here to celebrate brother-in-law's 85th birthday, one of his favorite hangouts back in the day and some of the servers remember him and my sister. He wanted to come here to have prime rib but when we got here, he changed his mind 2 times from prime rib, to hot turkey sandwich and ended up just having a coke and waffle! We also ordered a club sandwich for my sister, hot turkey sandwich for hubby and I had the #1 breakfast with one egg, two sausage links and crispy hash browns and two coffees. We've been coming here for a while and the servers knows us and already know what we're gonna order. We love this place. We mostly come on Saturdays for their hearty delicious chicken noodle soup and their beef short ribs that are melt in your mouth goodness. You look around and you see nothing but regulars and thats how you know their doing something right. You can order breakfast lunch or dinner and they have weekly specials. I grew up in the tri-city area and so many fond memories at Baldie's Cafe. I'd say it's one of the local, eminent institutions. Very hardworking & kind staff and hearty delicious American diner food. I like their breakfast and brunch a lot but if you cannot stand crowds on weekends I'd say do take out or visit for lunch or dinner; or visit on weekdays. Had breakfast here today with fam for the first time since we all started to live in Union City 20 years ago. Portions are big like you will have some leftover to take home type of big. I had the Mediterranean omelette which was tasty and hearty. The saltiness of the sausage really made it savory. We also all loved the clam chowder. Everything else was kind of bland but i think they want you to salt your food to your own liking so it was fine. It does get really busy here but their service is still fast. The Mediterranean omelette is my favorite and the hash browns are pure perfection. Reservations accepted via phone. I called for a party of 10 a couple weeks prior for dinner and it was easy peasy. We started off sharing the fried zucchini and fried calamari. Both huge portions! They were both not the strong suit of the meal and I would pass on the fried starters in the future. The meat entrees were on point! I got the prime rib and my fiancé got the coulotte steak. Both were cooked a perfect medium rare, as requested. Came in for breakfast on Friday morning at 10am and got a table fairly fast. The service was awesome and the servers assistants keep refilling our coffee and ice water. Now, at 10am, I came in with the intention of getting breakfast, but saw the Prime Rib menu and I said to the sever can I get the prime rib, to my surprise she said YES and asked how I wanted it, medium rare please, and she said soup or salad, soup is clam chowder. Me. clam chowder please. The prime rib was lil more well done than I like it, but it was still very good. The clam chowder was very good as well with lots of clams. I haven't been to Baldies in a minute, but I always remember it fondly as the last time we came here, me and my other Filipina friend ordered Corned Beef and it was not what we expected. Other Filipinos might understand. I came by here while waiting for my husband to finish with his appointment. There was a good size crowd at 2PM on a weekday. The service was great - my coffee mug never went empty. I was served promptly. I ordered the House Club and Hashbrowns. The french fries that came with the Hosue Club was perfectly crisp and so addicting. Much better than fries you get from most fast food chains. The club sandwich was prepared the way I like it. I lived in the Philippines for a while and it was so hard to find a proper club sandwich. The white bread was toasted/grilled, with crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato. There was some mayonnaise. My husband thought there was too much mayo, but I thought it was OK. The turkey was oven roasted - which was kind of unusual for a club, but definitely healthier. And there was a lot of turkey. However, it was a little bland. But it was healthier...so I'm torn. The hash browns were perfectly browned. I would have liked them to be browned on both sides however. Serving size for both dishes were pretty good. The food might have missed the mark by a teeny bit, but the service, promptness, and serving size makes up for it. I've passed by this non-descript strip mall on Decoto many times, never knew about this local gem that's been around for 35 years apparently! Friend suggested for brunch meetup. Solid classic American diner, with booth seating indoors and folding tables and chairs outside. One waitress taking orders and serving so was little busy, so we had to grab some utensils from another empty table. Food came out pretty fast. I've always loved Baldies, I have no clue why I haven't reviewed them before. Baldies is and will always be a staple of the community. We go whenever we're craving some wholesome, delicious, perfectly cooked food. My go to is the Chicken Fried Steak. It always comes perfectly cooked and seasoned. The hash brown could use a bit more salt but that could just be a personal preference. My husband always gets their Hot Turkey Sandwich and he loves it. He orders extra gravy with it and it is delicious. The reason for the review is we ordered catering for a small women's get together at my mother in laws house and everything was not only affordable but DELICIOUS. She ordered 15 plates of food but they came in catering trays of course. We had eggs, hash-brown, bacon, sausage, waffles, pancakes and toast. With that they gave us 2 large syrup and butter containers with brand new ketchup bottles and plenty of jelly for the toast. All of this was for a reasonably low price for 15 people. We were extremely pleased with everything they provided. The only complaint we had was the hash brown was supposed to be half country potatoes but all and all we were happy and had more than enough food. Can't wait to visit them once again and will definitely keep them in mind for our next get together. read more
