Bill's Cafe has always been one of my favorite places to have brunch, especially since it's close to my house. I've been here plenty of times and usually have a good experience, but unfortunately today was completely different. We were seated and ordered our drinks and our meal at the same time. Our food was brought out by the kitchen, but both of our Pepsis were missing, along with our side order of biscuits and gravy. I patiently waited for our server, Scarlett H., to come back and check on us so I could let her know what was missing, but she never came back to our table once during our entire meal. We finished eating and I finally had to flag her down to let her know we still hadn't received our drinks or the biscuits and gravy. She walked away to check on the missing items, and eventually they were brought out by the kitchen staff, not our server. By that point we were already finished eating and ready to leave. I asked for one of the drinks to be taken back because there was no point in having it anymore. We weren't offered boxes or really checked on at all, but the check was dropped off with no problem. I immediately paid the tab with no hesitation, but I did ask to speak with the manager because I felt he should know about the service we received. He was very nice and apologized several times, which I appreciated because obviously it wasn't his fault. I am not much of a Breakfast or Brunch person, but the food here seems always good no matter when i go. I used to get benedicts at Bills, but I seem to feel a need for more protein. BOOM, they also have corned beef hash. Perfect! Service was super nice here but they do get busy. Only hiccup was I asked for a steak to be Medium Rare, but i got Well Done. They were very apologetic and quickly made another for me Medium Rare. Great time! Great food! And the place feels like a funner classic diner. The only thing issue ive ever had here was finding parking. There's some in the next lot, but i think you're technically not supposed to park there. read more

We came to Bill's Cafe to celebrate my little sister's birthday with a Sunday brunch and were having a great morning until the incredibly rude and unprofessional treatment we received from the host staff. There was a wait, which we completely understood it's Sunday morning and we expected the restaurant to be busy. We put our name down and patiently waited. My sister then received two back-to-back text messages about a minute apart notifying us about our table. As soon as we received them, we walked up to the host stand, where two hostesses were standing. Neither one acknowledged us, greeted us, or even made eye contact. My sister finally said, "Hi, I just got a text that my table is ready." The hostess continued staring at her screen without responding. Then, with an attitude, she told us, "It's been 9 minutes. We gave your table up." How exactly had it been nine minutes when we had JUST received the texts and immediately walked over? We showed her the timestamps on the messages. Instead of apologizing, checking whether there had been an issue with their system, or even attempting to help, she simply pointed at her screen and said, "Well, that's what I have here." "This is you, isn't it" We showed her our phones AGAIN, clearly showing when the messages came through, and she continued arguing that her screen said otherwise. No apology. No attempt to resolve the issue. Zero customer service. What made the situation even worse was watching this same hostess giggle, point in our direction, and talk about us with another coworker afterward. It was unbelievably immature and unprofessional. When another table finally became available, a different employee walked us over, stood next to the table, pointed at it, and said essentially nothing. At that point, we could STILL see the original hostess laughing and talking about us. We were so disgusted by the way we were being treated that we decided to leave rather than spend money somewhere that made us feel unwelcome especially when we were there to celebrate my little sister's birthday. Mistakes happen. Technology glitches happen. Tables get given away. None of that would have warranted a bad review. What warranted this review was the complete lack of basic courtesy, the dismissive attitude, and employees openly laughing and gossiping about customers. If you don't enjoy working with the public, that's your choice, but customers should not be treated with hostility and mocked for pointing out an obvious discrepancy with your own text notification system. Absolutely terrible service and incredibly disappointing. What should have been a fun birthday brunch ended with us walking out because of the behavior of the host staff. Management seriously needs to address how their front-of-house employees treat customers. read more

My wife family wanted to come here for breakfast before we headed back home to Los Angeles. When we came, we were lucky to find parking because this place got busy. We had to wait like maybe ten minutes to be seated since we were a big party. My wife got the Mexican Omelette which I shared with her since I was holding our baby. I thought the omelette plate was decent. My wife like it more than I did. The custom service here was great, they were attentive to us. So we swing by Bill's Cafe for a brunch. Bill's is a traditional restaurant with long serving history in Bay Area. The first thing you would notice was the freshly brewed coffee that they poured into your mug. And the foods just rolling in shortly after placing the order. Needless to say, the freshness and efficiency just facilitated the taste buds. We all had the Meat Lovers omelettes, hash browns, and pancakes (exchange w/ toasts). The quality was amazing. This location has a good flow of patrons coming through. I went around brunch time during the work week and it had a constant flow of people while I was there. I went alone to read and enjoy some food and the service was really nice. Very attentive, but they also kept me to myself when I was reading. Looked like it was even the manager that was coming by to refill peoples coffee and water. He noticed I didn't get my toast and immediately had them come by and drop it off. At first I was nervous about how the cornbeef hash was going to taste because of how it looks, but it tasted just the way I like. It came with a large amount of hashbrowns. Came here this morning with my husband and my daughter and everything was great. The food was excellent, everything tasted fresh and well made. Our server Paola was amazing, very attentive, kind, and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. Honestly all the staff were great, anyone who walked by checked on us and asked if we needed anything, which I really appreciated. The owner was there and that stood out to me. He was present, walking around, making sure everything was running smooth, and just had a really welcoming energy. You don't always see that, and it made the experience feel even better. The restaurant itself was clean, and I have to mention the bathroom because that matters to me. Usually I have to hold my daughter up because bathrooms can be so dirty, but this one was very clean and well kept. I gotta say though, there's always a wait, and because we're such a big party, we end up waiting for an incredibly long time because they only have like 2 big tables. The staff is unable to push tables together to accomodate our party of 10...we always need to wait for people to vacate the large tables in the back. For that reason, we're always raging hungry be the time we get to the table, and it's not fun anymore. Other than that, the service is just fine even though the restaurant is always crowded, especially during weekend brunch time. We did have a bit of a wait before our server came by, so we asked a few staff members for assistance. A gentleman named Daniel stepped in, went to find our server, and when he couldn't locate them, he kindly took our order himself. The food was better this time, but the service was worse. When we sat down, the table was already crowded. For a party of 10 we had 3 jelly containers plus hot sauce and syrup, which left no room once the plates came. The portions are huge and usually take 2 plates, so the tables really need to be cleared before meals come out. Our server felt very rushed, and the food runners made things confusing. For example, I ordered country fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs. They only said "eggs and hash browns" when they dropped it off. Nobody ordered just that, so we all looked around not knowing who it was for. Only after some frustration did they say it was part of the country fried steak order. That kind of communication made the meal stressful. The worst part was at the end. I asked for a to-go box right before we paid, but the server never came back. We waited more than 10 minutes, tried to get help from others, and even asked a busser who never returned. I finally had to get up and grab one myself. Our server, Scarlet, never came back to the table at all. If you can't serve a party of 10 with patience and basic communication, maybe this isn't the right job. We still tipped 15% because my husband is too nice, but the service really needs to improve. read more
