But now that I've tried another dentist in my new location, I can firmly say that I'll be driving the 1.5 hours away just to stick with Tyl. There are two types of dentists- the kind that are just in it for the money, and the kind that you really trust. Dr. Tyl is the latter- he made such reasonable recommendations and even recommended against doing certain work that other dentists have tried to convince me is an "emergency". The office is beautiful and the receptionists and hygienists are just beyond nice. It's just a perfect office. The only drawback is that they aren't in any insurance network, but it really doesn't make a difference since most dental insurance pays the same for in-network and out-of-network. It just means that I had to pay some nominal fee, like $10 if I remember, for each cleaning. I can live with that! The office manager Heather is also excellent. The office is clean, modern and professionally staffed with experienced people at every level from the front desk to the Doctors themselves. If you live in the greater Princeton area this firm is worth a visit. Prices are reasonable. We wouldn't consider going to another dentist.

The practice was sold to Simply Beautiful Smiles (and apparently now the Smilist.) At first the highly corporatized organization was acceptable, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. I was told I needed a "deep cleaning" for gum disease, although, having had gum disease at other points in my life, because of poor practices that I improved in response to the disease, I have observed no bleeding when flossing, or sensitivity in recent years. The "deep cleaning" didn't strike me as particularly different than any other cleaning, but it did involve a rather large out of pocket expense, which I paid. I was not told that I now needed to come in - for the rest of my life - every four months, and that I now need to pay for a special cleaning each time I go. I grudgingly paid, but again, it didn't strike me as different than any normal cleaning of the types I've had regularly for my entire adult life. I also had to wait quite a long time in the dental chair to get it; about 40 minutes. It didn't strike me as particularly different than the cleanings I've had over the last 30 years. In fact the hygienist said my teeth and gums looked good. I did not spit out any blood with the cleaning. Before the cleaning, doctor there - there seems to be a different one each time I go - looked in my mouth for about 45 seconds, said I had plaque and needed to come every four months. That was it. This conflicted with the statement made by the hygienist. I'm not confident in what I'm being sold. Unlike earlier years, my teeth never bleed when flossing. I haven't noticed any problems. They have my dental records for 30 years, and I'm not sure how and if these records can be transferred, but I am thinking of getting a second opinion, hopefully at less corporate practice. They have high technology, but I'm not sure if the goal is generating revenue rather than providing good or excellent patient care.

In my past, I had many experience of tooth extraction which were not much painful, but this time was different. The oral surgeon was Dr Brian who did at The Smilist office (or The Simply Beautiful Smiles of Lawrenceville). If it is so much painful because of its location or some reason, it should be done at whole body anesthesia or having sedation pill or something effective one.

To be safe, a vacuum should be used along with alternative air source, a dam over the mouth that leaves only the treated tooth out. I initially made an appointment with a regular dentist at Eastern dental (what a sham of a place, I'll review it shortly), but was treated as if I was crazy to care about how the procedure would take place. I was very disheartened. Princeton's a small place, where would I find a doctor that thinks in the same "crazy" way I did? Then Dr. Huckel came into the picture. Not only did Dr. H follow all the the protocols I mentioned above, he genuinely cared and was really resourceful about various alternative fillings/onlays. They have the most up to date equipment and technology, and the staff there are really professional and thorough. I ended up getting ceramic onlays (this was early '10), and not only do they blend with my teeth, they feel wonderful. I've been coming here for checkups and cleanings ever since, and the hygienists have really helped me establish a healthier teeth regimen (the two I've had were both really knowledgeable). I've been to many dentists in my lifetime and have brought my family to 3 local dentists before hearing about Bordentown Dental arts from a close friend and deciding to give them a try after an awful experience in Hamilton with one of my daughters. That was 5 years ago. If you follow my reviews on Yelp I rarely give 5 stars but this is one of those rare cases. Dr. Birnbaum checks all the boxes. He's funny, caring, punctual, honest, and really loves what he does. He always puts his patients first to the point where if you needed him he would drive into the office and meet you in the middle of the night. The staff is also phenomenal and they get to know every patient personally. As a patient here you're treated as a VIP. This office consists of Dr. Birnbaum, Gale, and Dawn. That's it. And they've all been together for years and are like a family (banter and all). You will also find that Dr. Birnbaum always has the latest and greatest technology. He will even ask if he can test his new expensive "gadgets" on you such as a way to numb you with a painless device instead of the usual giant syringe (I actually opted for this once and it was very cool). He may also give you a free mouth and throat cancer screening (this is a courtesy because he has the technology and he never charges for it) I could go on and on about how great an experience we always have here and how my kids (now teenagers) actually look forward to their cleanings and "visits" but I'll leave it at that and just say that Bordentown Dental Arts is one in a million. Typically, I wouldn't go on to write such a detailed glowing review about a dentist but This is just one of those great experiences that deserves the kudos.

I love the way Dr. Birnbaum takes the time to look at & explain everything! He is very thorough, gentile & makes you comfortable during the entire process. His office is also updated with a negative pressure system to keep the air clean & everyone safe. I also like the fact that he takes 1 patient at a time & you don't feel rushed through like you are in a revolving door of patients. His staff is very helpful, kind & friendly. Said dentist had no openings for a cleaning, so I decided to check if Dr. Lisko had anything available, which he did. I went to see him for a cleaning. He said his office is unwilling to see me and that he will officially release me after today's visit. He had the front desk get up the paperwork to release me- he made it very clear I am no longer welcome. It frustrates me that they willingly put me on the schedule to see him, only to have him dismiss me in that manner. This is a warning of sorts to current/future patients - just want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. I'm hoping that their front office staff will only schedule people who the doctor will kindly see from now on. I wish I had just waited for my most recent dentist.

I really hate to give this rating, because I liked Dr. Lisko and found him very kind. In fact, I…read morethought he was a great dentist until I very nearly had a tooth pulled for no reason on his advice. Dr. Lisko filled a cavity on a back molar for me, and it was still bothering me a bit, so I went back to have him check it out. He said there was a problem with the filling, and I would either need a root canal (which would last maybe 10 years), or have the tooth pulled. Since this was not the most critical tooth and a root canal is... well, a root canal, I opted to have the tooth pulled. He doesn't do extractions, so I made an appointment with an oral surgeon he suggested, for some weeks out when they had availability. In the meantime, my tooth continued to get worse, so I went to another dentist to see if they could pull it before I went on vacation. Here I was told, and I quote, "Lose a tooth for this? Is he out of his mind?" I did not need a root canal or extraction. What I needed was to have the tooth properly cleaned, as Dr. Lisko's hygienist had evidently failed to do, because the buildup was irritating the gums. Needless to say, I'm moving to a new dentist.
