I haven't tried the food but it was my 1st time going there. I will try the BBQ sandwich. The young server told me I could get it with or without sauce, but I would have to buy the bottle of sauce to see if I liked it... I asked for a slice of blackberry cobbler, and he grabbed a bowl. I ask him if there are any slices, and he just looks at me and says no. Not the greatest impression / communication for someone wanting to help business that are local... Tried the mild sauce. I also got a fountain drink "extra". went to sit down and eat I asked for something to eat ON and with the firm pointing of a finger I was told the family pack was carry out only!.. well look I just spent 30 dollars in the place and I can't have a sandwich for lunch and then take the rest home for the family without getting a lesson on their carry out only "policy" ? Walked in to see what they offered. Asked the guy at the front what kind of meats they have on the menu and his response was "Just Barbecue". Seeing pulled pork sandwich displayed on the menu I then ask, so just pulled pork? His response rudely was "that would be Barbecue" I've never been to a BBQ place that didn't know what BBQ was before... First of all, I am not from San Franciso as the location attached to my name suggest, I am from Springfield. I have always like Baldwin's Barbecue, good flavor. But they are slow...very, very slow, regardless of how many or how few customers are ( or are not) in front of you in line at the drive through. My mom and I wanted to get food from there today for tomorrow and Monday so a short while ago, at 3 pm, I went to the drive through. There were 3 cars in the parking lot and just one vehicle in front of me. I waited. And waited. And waited a bit more. Just as I was about to decided that I could drive down to Whitt's, the truck left and I pulled up to the window. The young man how took my order (and I do mean young, he looked about 15, but of course could be older), took my order. The young man at the window certainly wasn't rude, but he wasn't very friendly, either. He seemed a little bored and barely spoke, no smile, no greeting. I asked for a medium cole slaw and he told me there were just two sizes: small and one pint. Well, not his fault of course but would be nice to have something in between. I received my order packed as usual in a brown paper bag. A very nice and personable lady took my payment. As I pulled out, I noticed that one corner of the paper bag was damp. I thought about returning and asking for a second bag to make it a little more secure, but there were by then two cars behind me and I didn't want to wait for several minutes again, and as it was just one corner, I left. It takes me only about 7 minutes to get to my driveway. When I got there, I didn't hold the bag by the top, but cradled it for extra security. Got in the house and as I placed the bag on the counter, the entire bottom broke though and the Styrofoam container of baked beans it the floor and hot beans went on me and on the floor. Then I noticed a corner of the cole slaw container had been leaking through a crack, which was why the bottom of the sack broke through. I was angry and wanted to call right away but, as my mother said, "It won't do any good, they won't care." She is no doubt right. I will just open a can of beans....but I wish they would check their containers and/or use plastic bags. Or double bag, which would help. It is frustrating to wait and wait and pay for your food and then have it ruined by something like this. I also wish the staff would be as friendly and pleasant and the lady who took my payment. An indifferent attitude isn't good customer service. read more

We drove to TN from FL and this was the only place we found to be open so we stopped in. I found the food to be ok, the meat was bland and the potato was not cooked enough. My kids enjoyed the chicken tenders but said they were on the dry side. The customer service is TERRIBLE, we waited for at least 15 minutes to even order. Not one of the 3 people behind the counter even bothered to say we will be right with you or acknowledge us. They were SO slow it was like watching paint dry. if you really want to try this place I strongly suggest calling ahead. read more

Food was delivered by Premium Delivery and they are amazing. We spend 100's of dollars a week through them. We ordered Baldwins today almost 50.00 in food and had to throw it all away. It was old and the chicken was almost black. Called and spoke to the manager at Baldwins and offered a credit. Long standing tradition in Springfield. This place won't show up if you search BBQ.. Only if you search Barbecue. The cue here is very tasty and is of the Eastern Carolina style...chopped fine with a lightly mixed in vinegar sauce. Typical sides with both vinegar or creamy slaw. Very good BBQ but if you're looking for pulled pork or ribs, that's not what they do here. One thing they do have is delicious Broasted fried chicken. Overall a good choice. Very clean place and a simple menu. Hard to mess up pork shoulder so it comes down to the style you prefer. Here it's chopped with vinegar. read more

I give 5 stars for food quality, but 1 star ignorance. I grew up on this BBQ and love it. I always try to go every time we are in Tennessee and I drive almost an hour to get my BBQ fix. This time the food was great as always, but I was very disappointed that no staff member had a mask on preparing or serving the food. I also did not see alcohol wipes or hand gel. It's not mandated to wear a mask, but I feel it is reckless not to. We all should be working together to prevent the spread of Covid. This is not political. It's watching out for each other. Who knows how long this pandemic will last, but I will probably not be returning to Baldwin's for a long time. read more

I love this place! Grew up having it from time to time and at every family gathering! The barbecue is the most delicious I've ever had. I miss this place a lot since I moved to Gallatin. A second location in Gallatin would be the best for the students from Robertson county that go to Vol State. It would be more than enough business! Always my first choice in Springfield when it comes to a BBQ sandwich or fabulous fried chicken. The pork is pretty finely chopped, not pulled - that matters to some BBQ aficionados. I like most any style of pork BBQ, but this is my favorite in the chopped variety. Always has a good smoke balance, and I use the hot vinegar-based sauce on mine. They do not skimp with the meat, either - one sandwich is plenty for my 6'2", 220 lb. frame. Now about the fried chicken...it, too, is fabulous. Very much like mom or grandma would fix it! Good selection of the typical sides one would find in a BBQ restaurant, and good desserts as well. I eat there almost weekly. read more

Overall the BBQ was great. I'd say second best in Springfield. I didn't like that if you wanted BBQ sauce on the side, you had to buy a bottle for $3.75, you can get it on your Meat or buy the bottle. Not everyone I was buying for wanted the sauce. I don't know why they can't give you a small container free of BBQ sauce? I've never been somewhere you have to pay for it. Also, they were out of a couple of their sides and a hot wings on the menu. We came about 4:30, wonder how much they would've been out at say around 5:30-6. We ended up having to go to another BBQ place down the road for sides. This is the best BBQ you can find in Middle Tennessee. It is a fine chopped BBQ, not pulled pork. The spicy cayenne pepper hot sauce is the most amazing condiment ever. I buy it by the gallon to put on everything. You can choose traditional southern sides like coleslaw, cornbread, roasted potatoes to name a few. The atmosphere is family friendly. Had a get together at the house and ordered from them two day's in advance, service and quality was awesome, we had 24 people at the house and 6lbs of BBQ was over enough and the 2 type of the claw was great also. Not good. Was from out of town and wanted some good BBQ. I saw the good ratings on Yelp. I was not impressed.with the food. A BBQ joint with no brisket, no ribs (except on Fridays) only had pulled pork and fried chicken wings. Side dishes were OK at best. The BBQ sauces were fair. I don't know how this place wins awards for their BBQ. I won't be back or recommend to anyone. read more
