My friend and I were looking for a spot to grab a quick lunch and catch up on some business, and since we were both in the mood for a diner, we ended up at Uncle John's American Diner in Goodlettsville. The Vibe: We arrived a little after 2 p.m., knowing they closed at 3, so the team was already starting to wind things down and close off part of the dining room. The place looks and feels exactly like you'd expect from a classic diner, simple, casual, and comfortable. It was clean, which I always appreciate. The only small quirk was that our booth table sat a little off-center, so we had to do a quick adjustment, but no big deal. Service: Our server looked like he might've just started, honestly, he couldn't have been more than 12 (lol). You could tell he was new and nervous, but very polite and trying hard. When I ordered the breakfast croissant, he quickly said they were out, and another server jumped in to help clarify part of my friend's order. Despite the small hiccups, everything was handled kindly, and he was genuinely nice. Food & Drinks: I went with the Breakfast Burrito, and it was good -- nothing to write home about, but solid. The scrambled eggs were super fluffy, which stood out, and the salsa had good flavor. My friend ordered the Cowboy Eggs (two eggs over crispy tortillas with refried beans, cheese, and avocado). He felt the same -- decent, but standard. He also mentioned his coffee wasn't hot -- more "end-of-day warm," lol -- which fit the late-afternoon timing. On the drive back, he said something didn't sit quite right afterward, which was unusual for him. Overall: It was fine for what it was -- clean, friendly, and typical diner fare -- but nothing that would make me want to stop in again, even if I were close by. Decided to veer 5 miles off I-65 while traveling north due to really good reviews about this place. Boy we're glad we came here! We shared the Uncle John's big breakfast plus added a side of sausage. Boy it was a lot of food! It came with 3 eggs, waffle, hash brown casserole and 3 chicken tenders. Which were huge! I originally asked for a sauce for the chicken but upon trying it realized they didn't need it! The chicken was crispy and juicy and flavorful. All we had as I left was a 1/2 Pancake, 2 Sausages, a Tea for me and Child's coke and I had to pay $16.00 with tip because it was not her fault the meals have gone so downhill. It was around $6.00 for the drinks. $4.00 Pancake and $3.00 Sausages with a 17-18% tip of $2.55. Guy sat down behind me and kept slamming the seat for no reason. I didn't move until we left but he kept pushing his heavy butt into my lower back that already has lots of problems anyway. I looked at him as we left and reminds me of one those people, that are really needing a better day. Felt he needed me to pray for him. Each server had 4 tables when we walked in and was like we will get to you when we can. I got that feeling to just leave and I should have as only an 8-year-old had some food but not filled because the pancake was blah. So today they were busy at 9:30 to the point of chaotic. It's hard to ruin scrambled eggs but they were fluffy and moist Waitress hash brown casserole was like Cracker Barrel but better and boy was it! My husband and I visited Nashville for the weekend and on our way back home to Indiana we wanted to stop somewhere for breakfast. We stopped at Uncle John's American Diner and to say this hit the spot is a huge understatement. When we walked in, it was fairly busy but despite that we were seated quickly. The ambiance feels like a typical diner, clean, cozy and welcoming. The staff were all very kind and did an excellent job at taking care of their customers. Our server was Sierra and she was attentive and thoughtful. The menu was mostly standard diner fare, and had what you'd typically expect an American diner to have. I ordered a ham & cheese omelet with hash browns and it was, without exception, the best breakfast I've had in a long time. The hash browns were cooked perfectly as was the omelet. I've found that a lot of places tend to overcook their omelets with the eggs being slightly brown and a little rubbery. Not here though. It was the most beautifully cooked omelet I've ever had. It was clear to me that the kitchen there takes pride in the food they put out and I very much appreciate that. If I was a local, this would be the place I would always go for breakfast. Ordered patty melt. Have ordered so many times in the past. This time the meat was over cooked, definately a frozen burger. Very few onions, 1 slice cheese. The bread was also dry. Waitress did not check on us until delivering the check. When i complained i was told thats the way it is. No offer to recook, or get somthing else.
