My boyfriend and I always go out of our way to come here, it's probably one of our favorite places. They have a great selection of wine, beer, and alcohol. They also have a pretty good selection of gluten free beer. I especially love this place because of the tastings that they have. I have been to many of the wine tastings and I recently went to a large cider tasting that they had. All tastings have an interesting assortment of products and the staff is very knowledgeable. It's hard not to write a glowing review. Ball Sq. Liquors simply has the best selection and best prices anywhere around. If you want a great selection of beer, this is the place. If you want a great selection of wine, they have it. How about obscure champagne, it's there. Hard to find scotch, yep. And they have a good selection of fine cheeses and caviar. They have weekly free tastings, as well. The owner has even created a program for you to track your purchases online so you can make personal notes and know what you like, what you didn't, and be able to remember which bottle of wine you loved with that delicious cheese. Literally the only thing missing is a section of cigars with a walk-in humidor. I used to live around the corner and went here for all of my alcohol. I now live a couple of miles away and STILL go here for all of my alcohol. They're worth it. read more

Went in last weekend, which I havd not been in a couple of years. They went through a renovation and the place is bigger and super nice. The service is great and always friendly. I was there to pick up a keg which didnt seem to be unreasonably priced. The only thing that caught me and my roomate off guard was that we had to move the keg ourselves, from the back, and move the kegs thats were on top of it. That was a little strange but whatever. Great way to spend a Friday evening right after work and catch one of their weekly tastings getting to talk to the producers / importers themselves. This place is awesome. They have free wine and beer tastings every Friday with the occasional hard liquor or mead tasting thrown into the mix. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great selection of beer and an even better selection of wines with tons of good bottles under $10. Definitely worth stopping in. read more

The people in Ball Square Fine Wines and Liquors are super friendly and are willing to answer any questions you have when you walk in the shop. There is a nice range of prices too that suit the budget conscience student. PLUS, if you become a member(free) you get 10% off all your wine purchases! Additionally, you are set up with an online account where you can keep track of the wines you have purchased and your notes on whether you liked the bottle. I feel lucky to have this shop so close to my house. Whether my absinthe-loving friends are coming over, or I just need a bottle of Chateauneuf de Pape for a special occasion, I can find everything I need there. I used to stash cases of favorite wines in my little "wine cellar" (a gym locker in my basement), but having this wine shop at my disposal is much more efficient. My personal wine cellar is just for regular table wines that I buy by the case, and is decent back-up for when the wine store is closed. read more

I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been posted, but I love this store. I lived a couple blocks away for 3 years and spent an unhealthy amount of money here. Absolutely incredible beer section, very friendly staff that always remember me, good service and communication (I love the Facebook beer updates and being able to e-mail the staff members), and good prices for the area. The tastings are a lot of fun, the liquor selection is great for such a small store, and whenever I need help with a bottle of wine the staff has always picked a good one for me. I still drive here from Waltham to stock up before the holidays or to pick up kegs. Nate the beer manager is always responsive and has great recommendations. Ball Square really is the best neighborhood liquor store anyone could hope for, and we're lucky to have them. Keep it up! read more

Went to Ball Square Wines and Liquors Friday evening to buy wine for a gettogether. I walked in during their wine tasting which evidently occurrs every Friday. It was great . I got to sample various wines and bought three bottles that I liked. At the gettogether everyone liked the selections. Will definitely be going back. read more

Ball Square has a great wine selection. I'm not a big beer drinker so I can't comment on the beer selection. I'm a regular here and have never had a bad experience. The staff is very helpful, but never pushy. Whenever I've asked for suggestions, I feel that the recommendations are always solid and in my price range. They also have some fairly inexpensive wines that I wouldn't hesitate buying again. read more

These guys are the pros, seriously, even though it's kinda out there in Ball Square, it's the best store I've been to in the Boston Metro area yet for wine, beer or liquor. And while sure, you can go and get your Silver Oaks or Caymus, they still have awesome wines at every price point. As other have mentioned they do tastings every week. Additionally, once or twice a year, they do Grand Tastings, at which, you can try around 50 wines- all for free (and you get discounts on everything they taste). They are definitely on the "boutique" side, so they carry things that are rare for the area in addition to the usual standards, which makes it a great place to come and try new things. I should also point out that the store has a wine expert, beer expert, liquor expert and cheese expert. I've gotten recommendations from all of them, and they are always spot on. Super helpful and unpretentious staff. They give great recommendations whether you are looking to spend $10 or $50 on a bottle of wine. They mark down the last bottles from a case and put them at the front of the store, which is a great way to save a few bucks and try something new. The staff is very helpful and welcoming and they informed us they have tastings every Friday night, which I will definitely be trying. One of the guys also helped me find this beer I have been looking for in MA but haven't found it anywhere else but here. They even have a section with bar accessories and cheese. Bottom line: this is the best liquor store I have been to in the area. Whether I go in for wine, beer or liquor, they ALWAYS have good suggestions and know what they are talking about. Beyond their knowledge, their selection is unparalleled. I have never gone in there and not found what I was looking for. Prices are definitely in line with other places and you get so much more in terms of advice and experience from these people. More recently this place started selling fine cheeses and other yummy snacks, which I have bought once or twice and thoroughly enjoyed. I am lucky enough to live right around the corner, so I usually go to their regular wine tastings... always good stuff. I will continue to shop here and recommend others looking for a good liquor store to do so as well. read more
