Just ordered two sconces that were on sale and upon receiving them see that they are a different gold than expected. I had a screen shot of the receipt and nowhere does it say that item is not returnable. The customer service rep said it was somewhere in the transaction in tiny letters. I am so impressed and appreciative of the Ballard design crew! I had vague ideas walking into the store and Alyse was so talented at helping me edit my ideas and walk out with room plans! From the correctly sized and styled (my solo attempt failied) curtain rods, to organing our tiny mud room needs to finding the PERFECT busy family with pets & kids fabric for a chair we needed. I looked and looked online, but being able to see and touch the fabrics in person was a game changer. I am blown away at the deeply experienced interior designer advice/assistance/edit service I received in store = FREE. I'm deeply grateful. read more

I have always loved Ballard Designs until now. I ordered a custom couch on June 1 2021. Was shipped on Dec. 6th 2021 and scheduled for delivery Dec. 22nd. As of this writing (Jan 27th 2022) the delivery company that Ballard uses has scheduled and then cancelled the delivery three times. Having waited 8 months for this couch the delivery company finally admitted this morning that they cannot find the couch. I contracted with Ballard Designs not the delivery company and am very unhappy (to say the least) that Ballard would choose such a terrible delivery company. When speaking with the store that I purchased from they keep apologizing but have no control over the delivery company and so cannot solve any of the issues. Will never buy upholstery from Ballard Designs again. Other orders have been fine and delivered ok. read more

They said my money for the second desk would be refunded after I sent it back. The second desk came, again with a broken drawer. Really enjoyed my experience at Ballard. My wife filled me in that this is mostly an online furniture design company, but they've opened a couple of pilot brick + mortar locations. I have to say making a $1000 furniture purchase -- I'd never do it online... the pieces are very different in terms of firmness/softness, for example, and you want to see and feel the swatches and sit on examples from the collections to find the right fit. We got into a bit of confusion when ordering, the website was showing the chair we wanted less expensive than the sales associate ringing it up (by about $250), which was then corrected as human error. We then realized the online discount was a better deal than the in-store discount. Fortunately an employee who I can only assume is the manager came over and was able to make some administrative changes to beat the website's price. Seems like there are still some hiccups internally but all in all we left at the price we wanted to pay for the chair we wanted to buy. Since it's custom it's about a 2 month wait, which is fine and I'll be sure to update this review with the product quality. UPDATE: Product arrived 3 weeks later than promised when ordered. The system automatically generates an email saying there has been a delay and this happened 4 times. No reasons given, so kind of annoying. The chair is very comfortable which is nice. The upholstery work is decent. There is one area where there is a winkle in the fabric near the piping, which is an error in the upholstering process. For a $1,000 chair I'd have expected this to be perfect. In addition, delivery was clunky. I instructed both Ballard and the delivery company in advance to use my cell as my wife was out of town, they never did. Kept calling her and she'd call me. Fortunately I was looking out the window when the truck came down the road, as they tried to deliver the chair to the wrong address (e.g. 3324 instead of 3224). I watched them unload the truck, take the chair up, knock on the door, look at each other like "where are they?" and I had to run down the street to tell them they were at the wrong place. I did solidify my belief that buying online is absolutely the wrong way to go. I uploaded a picture of the chair as ordered and the actual chair. The website makes it look almost brown, but the thing is gray without question. My wife and I actually thought they might have used the wrong fabric it was so far off, but we don't mind the gray. I'm sure it's correct and their online renderings are just that bad. Shop in store! All in all I'd recommend Ballard, but it's not without its customer service and slight quality concerns. read more

I ordered 4 custom chairs. One arrived snapped in half, and the other three have small chipping of the frame all over, glue smears on the frames and globs of glue showing around the piping. These could never sell in a store for anywhere near this price because they look shoddy. There are many threads hanging out everywhere, the fabric is pulled too tight at the front corners so it doesn't lie well. There are glue smears on the wood and glue visible at the edge of the piping, especially at the corners. I am so unhappy with the result. read more

I ordered 6 matching carpets of various sizes for my home. Ballard cancelled two as discontinued. My complaint is not so much as the orders were cancelled, but it took weeks for them to let me know... enough time to lay the others and eliminate the option of returning those I received to get 6 that match. On October 27, an item was shipped from Ballard Designs, and I paid 1,587.76 for it. The item has not arrived. The tracking information I can access has not changed since the day of shipment. I contacted Ballard Designs on December 5, and - after a lengthy process - was told I would be contacted by the delivery company. When that did not happen, I contacted Ballard Designs again. I was told they would get back to me. I have not heard from them. I have contacted them again and may have to initiate legal action against Ballard Designs to recover my money. Now that I've read other review, I realize that I am not the first or only person to experience this. read more

I purchased a wall shelf (unfinished-to be painted or stained). The screw they sent is short. My husband had a hard time figuring out on what the heck to put this together. He was struggling for about an hour before he realized that the screw they sent won't work. He had to find longer screw from his tool box. This is a sign of poor quality business. Overpriced and horrible ordering system! I placed an order online with Ballard Designs and received an order number. The order I placed was for a quilt and shams and was on sale, with an additional 30% off on the day I placed it. By the following day I had not received an e-mail confirmation (as the order said I should) and called customer service. Not only had my order number been assigned to someone else's order, but they also couldn't find my order at all! They also had placed a credit card authorization which showed that I really did have an order despite Ballard's not being able to find it! I was on the phone with customer service for 30 minutes trying to re-place the order when my call was "dropped". I called back and told them to cancel the "nonexistent" order. They had annoyed me so much that I wanted nothing more to do with them. I was only going to buy the items because they'd finally been marked down to the price they should have been initially. Ballard's stuff is way overpriced and now they have proven that their ordering systems and customer service are inferior as well. Paid $299 for delivery and they won't even set up the bed. Delivery company dinged the wall and left a deep groove in the newly painted wall. Will NEVER shop with them again. This place is a joke. I placed an order for two chairs and a mirror at the end of June, the mirror arrived with no issue. The chairs did not. On July 10, the customer service called me to tell me there was an issue with my credit card. I spoke to a supervisor and "fixed" the problem -- which was they input my expiration date wrong (this was verified by the bank). I was told my order had been processed and I would receive a call in 2-3 weeks for delivery. July 12, the customer service called me to tell me there was an issue with my credit card. She listened and understood all my concerns and apologized for the difficulties that I had dealt with and pleasantly offered me the resolution I was requesting. I ordered three Shadow Floret Art prints and received them poorly packed and damaged. After returning them for an exchange, yesterday I received an opened box containing the three replacement prints packed exactly the sam way. Again all three were damaged. Upon calling customer service, no effort was made on they're part to guarantee that if I ordered these again they would be inspected before shipment and properly packed in individual boxes to insure that they would arrive in satisfactory condition. I discovered that Ballard Design uses a delivery service that uses "drop and go" delivery . This means that sometime tomorrow (I won't know when) a 40 lb piece of furniture will be left on the sidewalk in front of my 12 story apartment building, rain or shine for me to somehow find and get up to my apartment. The painting arrived a month ago and has yet to be picked up. We keep getting false information from customer service on when it will be picked up and when the shipping company is contacted directly, it is not any better. We have gotten nothing but an apology and asked if we wanted a refund or a replacement painting...if I hadn't purchased our new living room furniture based off of the painting, I'd be requesting a refund. Horrible experience with supposedly high-end Casa Florentina line. Waited 6 months to get my kitchen hutch and the top hutch was completely damaged (see photos), likely due to the far insufficient packing. They offered a replacement with ANOTHER 6-month wait, or I could keep it with a discount that would void the 1-year warranty as to the entire product (including the base which was not damaged). Avoid Casa Florentina! Also note, I tried to post a review on Ballard's website but they refuse to post it because it supposedly involves a complaint about shipping. I wouldn't not recommend shopping here. We bought a new home and loved many of the designs at Ballard. We ordered two chairs that were set to take ~3 months to be delivered. After 3 months, we were notified they were delayed a month... then they suddenly shipped...then they were delayed another 2 months...then they were shipped again. I have no idea where these chairs are, despite being charged, and my sales rep at the Ballard store in Tysons has long forgotten about us. I've sent 3 emails and can't get a response as to where my chairs are. VERY poor customer experience for the prices here. read more

I previously wrote a review of this company which was removed by Yelp so I'm trying again. I purchased a sideboard from Ballard designs. When the item came the first time it was seriously damaged below the wrappings. I asked the shipping company to return the item. When Ballard Designs sent the replacement item, it sat in their shipper's warehouse for almost a month. I call Ballard to ask about it and they gave me no help. There were additional issues with the logistics company used by Ballard which I've addressed in a separate review. The final straw on this matter was I was contacted via Yelp from Ballard Designs asking for my information so the could "make it right" I forwarded them my order information and got zero follow up from Ballard. I suspect they only action they took was to ask Yelp to remove my negative review! Love their stuff - but can't buy there again. read more

Like several other reviews for Ballard, I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from ordering furniture from this company. After receiving multiple notifications that my order had been delayed by multiple weeks, I called the company asking to cancel. I was sent through three different customer service representatives, all of which were apologetic, but had nothing to say or offer except to send me to a subsequent representative. The final service rep said that my order had been sent to their "COM" department, it would take 1-2 business days for the order to be formally cancelled. After submitting the cancellation on February 1, following up multiple times (by both phone and email), I received confirmation of cancellation February 14. This company certainly offers visually appealing decor and attractive flash sales, but they are clearly unable to deliver in a timely fashion and do not have a functional customer service department. read more

I emailed Ballard (they have minimal staff answering email, better to call, but good luck with that) asking Ballard to refund the difference. Since they didn't receive the email in a timely manner, because they are short staffed and behind on email replies, Ballard refused to refund the difference btw the list and sale price. Ballard Design is the worst company I have every worked with in my 58 years on this earth. We purchased dressers from them, had them delivered and they Sub contracted the delivery service and the driver hit my property and caused $1500 of damage. We have been trying to get resolved for two months to have fixed and today was the last straw. Their customer service manager called us after months of being passed around and basically told us "the contract says they are not responsible!" and then hung up. Called from a non caller ID and left no number. All we know is her first name which I will not use at this point. This company is the absolute worst to deal with. I understand mistakes happen but this company is impossible to get ahold of, no one calls back, when they do call back all they do is pass it to someone else and the cycle goes on over and over again. the dressers we purchased were less than the damage they caused to my house. They sub Contract their freight - BUYER BEWARE!!! Ballard Deaign does not take care of their customers and leaves you holding the short end of the stick making the consumer pay for their mistakes. I am out $1500 to fix my property and all they can tell me is it's not their responsibility and that I need to take it up with the freight company. Oh by the way, the freight company won't answer their calls. I am a President of a large organization myself, I am trying to reach the CEO of this unprofessional group, but of course, no one knows how to reach him. Ordered $4,000 worth of outdoor patio furniture. An ottoman was sent without the appropriate cushion. Instead an extra seat cushion was sent, which does not fit and has no way to be secured to ottoman. I called customer service. They asked that I send pictures of the ottoman and wrong cushion to a different dept called "product specialist"which I did. Got no response. Called customer service again, had to resend pictures to "product specialist". Still no call back. This is inexcusable. I am having to deal with two layers of red tape with no results. The proper cushion should have been sent to me immediately after my first call. I will not order from this company again. Their products are not worth the hassle. read more

The designers and store manager bent over backwards and showed tremendous patience as I poured through fabric and furniture options before ultimately deciding to purchase ~$6,000 worth of furniture. I'm concerned about the bad reviews with regard to quality, customer service and delivery issues and discussed those with the store. They assured me a positive end-to-end experience. I ordered an umbrella and new cushions for our patio furniture. They were supposed to send notification when the items shipped which didnt happen. Then I receive what I thought would be my umbrella all ready to put outside ... Nope! They send you your umbrella in two difference boxes. You first get the umbrella frame and pole and then several days later (if you're lucky) you get the canvas that you need to install yourself. Now, I'm pretty handy and putting things together dont bother me except when you are lead to believe that the item comes in tact like all the other places I've purchased umbrellas etc. I will never purchase this type of item from them again. read more

My experience has to be noted for new customers especially as I purchased a fountain and it arrived all broken and found the packing and box not adequate to support an item almost 100 pounds. I called customer service and they told me that I had to purchase another fountain and they would apply a credit for the first one when it was received in their factory. It was their error but I had to be inconvenienced and put out spending another $370 +. It was also a difficult task to put the broken fountain in the already broken box and get this heavy item in place for return with UPS but we did it immediately and 10 days later it was credited on my new Ballard charge card. The new fountain arrived in an equally broken box but somehow it survived this time and wasn't broken to our amazement. Also I must mention that when I received my new Ballard credit card, it showed both purchases and didn't uphold the offer the Ballard's representative offered me with this first time purchase which was a 12 month interest free program that was very appealing and sealed the deal. It really helped me make up my mind to get the fountain in the first place. When I called the bank and Ballard they said it didn't apply to my purchase and had to at least be a $500 purchase. The Ballard rep made a mistake and once again I was put out. Ballard didn't nothing to keep me as a customer and I will never buy from them again. I have a new home and doing major improvements and will go elsewhere where there is better service and they don't lie to sell their credit card and appreciate my business. read more

The customer service at the Tyson's location is absolutely horrible. I've been going in weekly as I'm redecorating the upstairs of my house and I've received horrible care 9 out of 10 times that I go in. They've made mistakes and showed little concern or follow up. They don't go the extra step to help you. I've shopped many years at the Jacksonville location and always had great care. Ex: I had a return placed on a gift card for almost 300$ and they failed to actually load it. I had to wait over a week and a half all the while calling to find out the status. They did not follow up with me. And told me that "these things happen and they'll get it fixed but didn't know when" Ex: I ordered a rug online and wanted to exchange for the color that they had in store. I saw the rug on the floor but was told that it was not in stock so I would have to pay the 40$ shipping charge again. My last location waived shipping if the item was in store but out of stock. Tyson's didn't even think twice. I called customer service and they were incredibly gracious. Also, I called when I arrived to drop off rugs and I was told "now is not a good time. I have both my guys helping a lady who purchased several floor pieces. You'll have to wait 10 or 15 minutes". I've continued to be polite because I love Ballard's but this customer service is horrible. read more

The store wasn't overly busy while I was in- but there were a lot of associates. Most of them looked busy- but did not hesitate to check in on me and make sure I was fine. I have been a Ballard Design customer for years and that stopped today. I ordered a rug in May of this year. After waiting for months for its delivery, it was finally delivered by truck (which added in a huge charge). Well the delivery guys left and I opened my highly anticipated rug only to find that they sent the wrong one. I immediately contacted Ballard and told them they sent the wrong rug. Well to this day, I am still waiting on the correct rug to be sent. Called Customer Service to just cancel my order and they refused to issue a refund until the incorrect rug was picked back up. Since I never received my correct item ordered, I don't know how they can legally do this. In any event, now I have to wait for who knows how long to get the incorrect product picked up and then wait weeks yet again for my refund of the purchase I never received. Bad form indeed. I will not be back!!!!!!!!! Ballard is historically known for selling items that they do not have in stock. Be prepared to wait forever for you item to show up. read more
