We ordered a tomato mozzarella pizza, huevos rancheros, a Dutch baby apple pancake, the LMT breakfast sandwich, two coffees, and a juice. The food overall was good. Actually very good in some cases. The breakfast sandwich was solid. The potatoes were cooked well. The huevos rancheros were delicious. The Dutch baby apple pancake was excellent. Really tasty. The pizza was good but here is the problem. It has a kick to it. Something spicy. My son loves pizza. He could not eat it because whatever they put on it had heat. I do not recall the menu mentioning anything spicy on that pizza. So if you order it, keep that in mind. It is not a kid friendly flavor unless your kid likes spicy food. Now the big issue for me was the service. I only saw one or two servers working the entire place. They were clearly busy. They were trying. But the attention was not there. The vibe was not there. Something was missing that makes you want to come back. You could feel the lack of staffing. And the coffee. Terrible. Truly one of the worst coffees I have had. It was so dark and strong I would have needed two gallons of milk to take it from Mordor black to something normal. I would never order the coffee here again. Overall, the food was good. Also, there's seating indoors for small groups and they take reservations as well. Our waitress was super nice and took care of our table too. The food menu had a lot of options to choose from and caters to picky eaters as well as those with a more refined palate. The drinks tasted good and all of the food overall was seasoned well. The portions were great for the price too. The short rib grilled cheese was a bit liquidy after some time but the flavor inside and the texture of the meat was immaculate. Also, the truffle fries paired well with the sandwich. I'd definitely recommend coming to LMT at least once if you're in the Dorchester area to enjoy a good drink and a hearty meal. read more

We ordered the French onion poutine for an app which was very good; big balls of cheese and caramelized onions 9.5/10 recommend. I've visited Lower Mills Tavern on multiple occasions when I'm near Dorchester, I think it's a great place for lunch. It seems like it could get loud during dinnertime/nighttime. All the staff members I've encountered have always been very friendly and helpful. The last time I visited, my server recommended the croquettes as an appetizer and it was delicious. I loved how it paired with the tangy sauce. My boyfriend order the Cuban sandwich (4/5 because I don't like mustard, but overall a good sandwich). I ordered a burger and it was a good burger, nothing special or bad to say. Overall, this is a good restaurant for a quick lunch. Parking situation is hard sometimes though, you may have to take a walk. read more

This restaurant is in an adorable neighborhood right by Milton that looks like it would be great for Christmas shopping. When I opened the doors and the smell drifted toward me, I knew I was in the right place. The tile flooring reminds me of Tate in Boston, but this is cozier. Stockings are hung near the kitchen, Christmas decor is all over mixed with a slightly industrial vibe- perfection. We sat in a nice mini booth (perfect size for 2). The menu has tons of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options! I got a seasonal quinoa salad that was fantastic, my husband got a Nashville Chicken sandwich that he loved. We just moved to the area, and heard endless good things about the bowery bar from people who heard we were moving nearby. I'm not sure why, as this is clearly the superior spot. The food is excellent and the menu changes seasonly. The regular fries are absolutely amazing as they use a Cajun seasoning to sup them up. All of their dishes are good, and it's a cute little spot. I've always been pleased with my meal here, but was sorry to see the tuna poke bowl was taken off the menu for the fall. I'm looking forward to becoming a regular here! read more

We started with bloody marys which were good but surprisingly small. My husband ordered the chicken & biscuits for his entree and they looked great; plump pieces of chicken sitting atop of some biscuits, smothered in gravy. For my entree, I ordered the LMT burger. It was cooked to a lovely medium-rare as requested and tasted amazing. One of the best burgers I've had in a while. For my side, I got the salad instead of fries. It was a garden salad with some kind of house dressing that was absolutely fantastic! I ate every last bite of my meal. You can tell this place cares a lot about their food. There was a bit of a wait (we were told 1 hour) when we got there around 7 pm on a Monday. On Mondays they have $1 oysters from Maine, which were delicious! The oysters themselves tasted very fresh and had a slight sweetness to them. The clam chowder was also good and had a slight cheddar taste to it. The street itself can get very busy as their are other restaurants next to it. The highlight was the bbq chicken pizza, really cheesy, thin crust, and flavored. The salad was okay. What better way to get patrons in the door than $1 oysters? Every Monday night, they offer $1 oysters for the whole restaurant, not just the bar area. The restaurant is quite cozy with a variety of styles of seating. For our visit, we started off with a dozen oysters and cocktails. The sangria ($12) was quite sweet and I couldn't really taste the alcohol. Could be dangerous! Other foods that we tried was the chicken sandwich as well as the wings with agrodolce sace ($14 for 8) and truffle fries. The sauce one the wings was pleasantly sweet and a nice amount of heat. Definitely freshly fried and doesn't taste like a stale wing that most restaurants unfortunately have. The chicken sandwich was a good size and came with a choice of side. The one server who stands out in particular is Ashley. She's always ready to greet us with a smile and to give us our seating choice. She knows the menu inside and out and can make recommendations according to our tastes. She is the perfect combination of friendly attentiveness and efficiency. Man. What a sad turn of events. I've kept going back to this place because it's very close to where I live and it's generally a decent place to grab a drink, watch the game, etc. The last few experiences have changed my mind. I wasn't going to write about this because it wasn't my experience, but my brother (who had also been there several times) was at Lower Mills Tavern about 2 months back to have a beer and watch Sunday Night Football. An older white gentleman sitting next to my brother proceeded to tell him that he didn't belong there (because my brother is black) and spouted racist crap at him. Apparently, the racist guy was a regular, so the bartender asked my brother to leave to avoid trouble and paid for my brother's beer to "smooth things over". Not good enough. My brother told me and I wasn't having it. I went in, asked for a manager (spoke with Barbara) and told her what happened. She was apologetic and wanted to talk to my brother about the incident, so she gave me her card. I gave it to my brother, but he decided not to pursue it, opting not to return to LMT. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and have been back a few times since. Today, I walked in with a friend, wanting to grab a drink or two and watch some football. The bartender was at the other end, chatting. She came our way to do something on the computer and then went back to the other corner of the bar to chat with her friends. I had a full conversation with the couple next to me about their espresso martinis, which I planned to order and was excited about. So we waited and waited and waited. The female barback cleaned glasses, filled the dishwasher, started filling water pitches, etc without acknowledging us or trying to get the bartender to get us a drink. Several minutes later, with no water, no drink, no acknowledgment, we decided to leave. Why spend money at a place that couldn't care less about my business? On the way out, I wanted to get the bartender's name, and the manager overheard (I think it was Barbara again). She said she could get the bartender for us (Morgan?), but our seats had just been taken and I was over it. The manager tried to make an excuse that "maybe the bartender hadn't seen us". She saw us, but wanted to chat with her friends (note - she had not made/poured a single drink in the whole time we were waiting). The barback saw us, but couldn't care enough to even pour us waters or say something when we said we should leave. It was not that busy (unlike Bowery Bar and Yellow Door Taqueria). We have been twice now once just for drinks and we tired the eggrolls. I love the open kitchen aspect so you can see when everything comes out. We then went for dinner and I got the bolgonse and he got the shrimp scampi. For an appetizer we got to calamari this was a bit different and had tomatoes and potatoes all roasted together. Yum! Consistently warm service and delicious food. I've been to Lower Mills Tavern twice for brunch in their outdoor seating area off of an alley (driveway?) on the side of the building. There are about six picnic tables set up, making it a great place for group meet-ups. The first time I visited, the hostess complimented my outfit and then gave me a list of other restaurants to visit in the area. I was charmed! I love it when community businesses are collaborative and supportive of one another. Anyway, the food and drinks have been excellent. I wish I could speak to a particular dish; however, I have yet to be disappointed. I was skeptical of the Chicken & Waffles because the Yelp pictures showed that the plate was overwhelmed with gravy. Don't be deterred! Two of my friends ordered it anyway and RAVED about it and wished that they had more of the gravy! My take-away from that valuable life lesson was to trust Lower Mills Tavern and order regardless of the Yelp pictures. I can further attest to the cocktails. I've probably had four or five cocktails in the two times I've visited. I love a floral or herbal concoction and Lower Mills Tavern delivers. We were going to Lower Mills Tavern for years until we moved away. Basically since it opened. The Tavern is not the largest place so you likely will have to wait for seating during peak times. We never encountered a long wait though. There is also a bar with TVs to show sports games. The food and drink menu are constantly updated. The tap list full of craft brews and not the usual suspects. There is a custom cocktail menu too, including items such as a bourbon grapefruit cocktail that my wife loved. Over the many meals here, I do not remember any entrée that I did not enjoy. Highlights include the flat iron steak and really any of their burgers. The portions are large so we typically do not order dessert. If you are not quite sure what to get, opt for the specials. You cannot go wrong. When I come back to visit Boston this is one of the restaurants on my shortlist. read more

We visited lower mills restaurant on a trip to Boston. Lower mills had a nice variety of food for our group. My wife had the pizza with mushrooms and a Vegan cheese on a gluten free crust. I had the salmon and our son had "the best burger" he's ever had. My dad and brother had a version of a Nashville hot chicken sandwich.. all of our food was great. Our sons truffle fries had a little too much truffle but I think I'd rather get too much if we're paying for it. They had a great draft beer, wine and spirts selection. It's a fun little town. The wife has been dying to try this place and we had high hopes. Its moderately priced, dishes top off around $30 but at that price point I have certain expectations. I ordered the porcini sirloin. The steak was cooked perfectly despite traveling 20 minutes back home but the green beans were not properly trimmed and the dish was missing flavor. When added salt, the dish tasted better. Also I was disappointed that there were no porcini mushrooms, instead had collard greens or kale stewed in the cream sauce. The veggies were good, but I was looking forward to the porcini mushrooms. The online menu is probably outdated so I am not going to hurt then for that. The wife got the vegan pasta which also missed something. Inside, it was well spaced and the cocktails looked good.
