Made a reservation here on a Friday night. It was busy so I'd say definitely make a reservation if you plan on coming. The service was very quick and our server spoke English, which was very helpful. There was indoor and outdoor seating. We sat indoors and had happy that it wasn't too loud. The drinks were good and there were a good amount of options. I would come back here.

It's been a long time since I've been amazed by a bar. I'm so happy to say that Baltra did it for me tonight! We tried 3 of their gin drinks: the sumi, jet lag, and the rio. All three were amazing, but I especially loved the jet lag and the rio; they were strong but somehow light at the same time. The balance was impeccable. At first, the jet lag tasted like any other gin cocktail to me, but my appreciation grew with every sip. The martini twist on it was expertly well done and the olives and pickle juice complemented it so well. The rio, amazing. My partner doesn't even like wine and he was raving about it. Try to make a reservation bc it gets busy. If you don't have a reservation, drop in anyway. We didn't have a reservation, but the servers were very kind and friendly and let us sit anyway until the next group came. They then invited us to stay longer after a cancellation. Ambiance is classy but cozy with a nice vibe. I have no critiques, just happiness. Thanks Baltra for a memorable night!
Out of all the cocktails bars in CDMX on the "World's Best" list, Baltra was my favorite. Returning to Mexico City for my daughter's Spring Break, I walked into Baltra around 9pm on a Monday in April. With one seat at the bar, I didn't have to wait at all since it was just me. Here's my experience. 1) Cocktails: The menu is well organized around key flavor profiles centered around an ingredient. For example, the first was rice. They also had pomegranate, kiwi, and strawberry. After you flip through these, you get to their classics, which aren't to be ignored. My first drink came in a low triangle glass with really good foam on top. The Granada + Naranja has premium rum, guava, and mango in it. It's sweet, but yet well balanced and refreshing. Enjoying sour drinks, I ordered the "Old George Sour" for my second drink. It comes with a layer of foam on top, an ice cube, and basil, cucumber, and cardamom. It's sour, but not overpowering. It's very refreshing! 2) Service: It's excellent! Being a popular bar, the bartenders are very busy, but still find time to smile and greet you. I never had to wait for anything, even the check. They remained calm as more patrons came in for a nightcap. If you enjoy quality cocktails in a more casual setting, go to Baltra. You won't regret it!
One of the World's 50 best bars. We were greeted warmly by the host outside and escorted to our seats at the bar. We love being able to see all the action! I enjoyed my limon + burbujas which was like a tart, lemon slushy. The arroz + pandan was creamy and minty similar to a grasshopper. Drinks are a steal here considering it's a craft cocktail bar. No time limit here, which was very nice compared to Handshake which had a 90 minute limit. Reservations on OpenTable.
The space is tiny. The chocolate mint frozen cocktail were oddly interesting. Some of us hate it some of us love it. The guava drink tasted more like straight up strawberry syrup.
Baltra has a lot going for it. Great location, sexy atmosphere, expert bartenders behind the bar, and a craft cocktail menu that's certainly intriguing. And I see why this place is ranked among the World's 50 Best Bars. However, the drinks we had missed the mark, in my opinion. Instead of a well-balanced cocktail with interesting ingredients, the flavor profile of each drink was simply too heavy on one ingredient. I can see the potential if executed properly but alas, the drinks did not satisfy that night.
Made a reservation and stopped by for a couple of drinks prior to dinner. It is a small Place so pls be sure to reserve vs just showing up. Very good ambiance. The servers were friendly and helpful, made good drink suggestions. Enjoyed our drinks - I got one that was a twisted version of Negroni.
Small bar would recommend a reservation. The drinks are really unique and pretty different which I enjoyed. One was really savory and tomatoey.
My favorite bar of my trip to Mexico City trip! While it had some of the best drinks we tried on the trip, the service made this our favorite bars!! We stopped here for a drink before dinner nearby. We had to wait around 10-15 minutes as the bar was full when we got there. The bar is themed around Darwin's Galapagos adventure. We tried four different cocktails - each one was unique and delicious. Highly recommend the old George sour, though everything else we tried was excellent too. Our bartender was friendly and recommended great bars and restaurants in Oaxaca city where we were headed next. They do martini Tuesday which might be worth checking out.

The martinis I've had have been excellent as well and they usually serve them with a little bowl of olives and pickled veg. Bar has an intimate and upscale vibe without being pretentious in the slightest. Bartenders are friendly and talented. They take card including contactless. There is plenty of seating at the bar as well as tables inside and outside. Bathrooms are clean and nice. Would definitely come back here no question. The Tuesday martini deal is unbeatable and the vibe of this place is great.
Drinks are very unique and definitely are meant to be for tasting than for getting tipsy. I will say that the cocktails tend to lean on the sweeter side here though and would be a good place to kick off the night or slow down if you're trying to drink more dessert like cocktails. Pro tip: it can be stuffy in the back with a lot of foot traffic so shoot for the living room area or the porch !
Came here at opening without a reservation on martini Tuesday for their special. The bartenders were super knowable and friendly. Ambiance was casual with Darwin decor.
On our most recent trip to CDMX, our hotel had recommended going to Baltra for cocktails, not to mention they are noted as a favorite on a variety of lists and considered one of the best bars in the world! So needless to say we had high expectations. The space itself is very cute offering a small bar, some indoor seating as well as some nice patio and outdoor seating. Overall it's not large, but it has a cozy vibe. We didn't have a reservation, though they are encouraged, but we went shortly after the opened and were able to be sat at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and happy to offer rec's. The menu is so fun, but primarily in Spanish. Some of their most popular cocktails have some fun doodles and imagery to go wuth them and we really enjoyed perusing the menu. We both started with the Ultima Duda or Last Doubt, which is their spin on an espresso martini that is mezcal based. Presentation was very fun and the cocktail was lovely. For my second round I went something a bit fresher and opted for the Sumi, which was gin based and had a lovely egg white foam, my favorite. Overall, the vibes were good, cocktails were solid, prices reasonable and service was good. Neither cocktails blew me away, but it was a very fun visit if you happen to be able to get a table or opted for a post dinner nightcap. read more

A little birdie told us to arrive before their 6:00 PM opening if we wanted any hope of a seat without a reservation. We pulled up at 5:38 PM and there was already a queue! The Timeline: * 5:38 PM: Arrival. We're second in line behind a family of four. * 6:00 PM: Doors swing open. The family takes the bar; we snag a cozy (if tiny) spot on the wall bench. I was on the "stunt stool," but we made it work. * 6:14 PM: TOTAL CAPACITY. I checked my watch--the place was packed inside and out in exactly 14 minutes. The Real Tea: It was Martini Tuesday ($100 pesos!). I'm not even a martini person, but the Classic was dangerously smooth. Just don't ask about the olives--those forsaken things remained untouched lol. Pro-Tip: The bottled water literally cost more than the cocktail. Make of that what you will. read more

Had a Fantastic experience at Baltra Bar! We were around the area when we saw this bar was close by and decided to swing by for walk ins - which thankfully we were successful. This bar is on the best bars top 50 list - and the drinks surely showed that. The service here was fast and friendly which I loved. We opted to sit outside as the day was pretty and the table set up there was so cute! The ambiance was classy and cozy. For our drinks we ordered: *old George sour - this was the green drink and absolutely delicious! It had a nice tart taste to it and was super refreshing *jicama drink - this was one of the jicama based drinks and we absolutely loved it. Delicious and light! Overall, would definitely recommend to check this place out! read more

Was interested in visiting Baltra Bar as it is the #45 ranked bar in the world. For a party of two, we did not have reservations but we arrived 15 min early to see if we could walk in. Once the bar opened, we were third in line and second in not having a reservation. The bar actually accommodated us as a walk in as long as we were willing to sit on the outdoor patio, which was actually really nice seating. I did peak into the interior to use the restroom. It's small but unique designed with inspirations of nautical and taxidermy. After being seated, we were quickly greeted by a waitress. The staff is english speaking but definitely try to communicate in Spanish if you feel comfortable. The current menu, Overseas Archives, is inspired by the research voyages of Darwin and features approachable cocktails. Ordered the following drinks: - Sumi: tanqueray 10 gin, violet liqueur, jasmine, yuzu, egg white - Gecko: lost explorer mezcal, axiote liqueur, green mix, lemon - Río: condesa gin rosa, guanabana liqueur, @cocchi1891 rosa, pink pepper - Beagle: herradura tequila, coconut, sake, coconut liqueur, lychee, lemon Of the four, my favorite was the sumi. It was like a sour style cocktail that had a good foam. The gecko was the most interesting with the green mix having a unique herbaceous flavor, almost like a green smoothie/salsa. I did enjoy each drink but I will say that none of them blew me away, given the bar's ranking. read more
Best bar I went to in Mexico City. The place does three things really well: balancing ingredients, flavor, and customer service. I walked in on a. Sunday evening unsure if it would be crowded and luckily it wasn't too bad. I was able to get a seat right away. Everything on the menu sounded good but ultimately went with the recommendations from the staff. My first drink was granada + pimineta Rosa. 10/10...it basically was a pomegranate Negroni (to put it simply) but the flavor was much more than that. The mezcal adding a Smokey flavor to the drink and the fruit combo added a hint of sweetness but not too much. My 2nd drink again, was another recommendation. Can't remember the name but it was VERY VERY good as well. I think I liked my granada + pimineta just a bit more. I will be back here for sure. I tried all the other bars on the top 100 best list in Mexico City (except Limontour) and Beltra blows the other ones out the water easily! The customer service and ambiance of the bar is spectacular as well and really adds to the overall experience. read more

Great bar in Mexico City! All the drinks we tried were phenomenal. My favorites were the Granada & Naranja, a seasonal drink, and the Sumi--highly recommend trying both. We didn't have a reservation but were able to snag seats at the bar, which made it a really fun experience. read more

Probably the only place we went in Mexico City that didn't live upto the hype. It was a nice bar and ok service and decent drinks but nothing out of the ordinary. Like we were told it would be. Feel like we could have found somewhere better . Kind of off the beaten path too. Nice enough just to meet up with friends. Kinda small though inside and not much space outside. Like I said just ok! I had a decent Mezcal drink and we had other cocktails that were fine. Was just hoping for alot more ! read more

As of March 2024 this bar is on the 50 Best Bar list. It entirely deserves that spot! The inside and outside seating feels more like a neighborhood bar than a famous cocktail bar. However, their drinks are crisp and elevated much higher than any normal bar. The menu explores pages of discovery, spice, and exotic flavors through ingredients like sherbert, mezcal, tequilas, and coconut. It's a can't miss you you're in México. If you arrive early you probably won't need a reservation but I'd still encourage one so you can sit at the bar. read more
What a pleasant surprise!! We had the opportunity to try a number of bars in CDMX this trip, and Baltra knocked it out of the park for us. We had about a 20min wait for a table for four, which was super easy to just grab a drink at the bar next door, before coming back for a seating. The menu is divided by special ingredients, such as kiwi or rice. The cocktails were phenomenal, nicely balanced and super interesting, with a more laid back vibe that some of its stuffier worlds best bar counterparts (cough cough rhymes with sandshake). The drinks were all super unique, and well fitting with the theme of Charles Darwin. Our favorites was the cocktail with yogurt and yuzu. It was just tart enough, yet sweet, and well balanced. Everything else tasted good too, but to me not as impressive as the yogurt cocktail. You definitely need a reservation since it's super busy and popular. If you can't make it in though, don't worry because there are plenty of other equally good bars around! read more
Came here the first night of our trip! It's super cozy inside and we were glad we made a reservation for our large group. Our service was great and our group really enjoyed our cocktails. Expectations for this place were very high and we made a reservation weeks in advance but were quite disappointed in the drinks and service. The place is popular and was packed and the only way to get in is through a reservation. The bouncer at the entrance almost couldn't believe that we had bar seat reservations and checked with his colleague who kindly seated us multiple times to ensure. Not off to a good start. The drink menu itself has been completely revamped and not in a good way. I couldn't find many of the drinks pictured here on yelp. Both of our drinks were sweet and unbalanced. The space itself has a great vibe, music was fun and we had a good time but drinks were disappointing. read more
Great bar with amazing decor. Every where your eyes go, you'll find unique trinkets and treasures. But beyond this, the cocktails are perefection. The menu consists of different flavor profiles and you're bound to find something that suits your tastes buds. I had the tomate+tuna (prickly pear) and found it to be deliciously and well balanced. My hubby got the oasis and his was equally delicious. We loved the bar so much we came back multiple times on our trip! read more
Baltra was one of our favorite cocktail bar experiences on this trip! This seemed to be a hot spot where a lot of locals enjoy and gave it a more neighborhood watering hole feel which we loved. The bartenders are so talented and efficient and it truly felt like watching a show. The libations were incredible and the bustling ambiance with great music provided immaculate vibes. My brother found this place as it's on the top 50 bars in North America. We were a party of 5 on a Saturday night without a reservations and luckily they had a patio table available. We were seated within 5 minutes and to my surprise they even had outdoor heaters, which was great since I'm always cold. In front of the bar they have some tables and also inside. I got the Old George Sour as it was recommended by our server and wow it did not disappoint. There was so much flavor, but also was beautifully balanced and presented. If you're in Mexico City go and check them out for a nice drink. read more

Very delicious cocktails at this bar. Located just a few blocks from Parque Mexico, the walk over from our AirBnb was lovely. Grabbed a few appetizers as well to enjoy along side our drinks. The jamon serrano, and cheese and olives with baguette were lovely. Highly recommend. read more

Came here on our first night right when they open and we absolutely loved it. The ambiance is very cool with mood lighting and great music. Since we made a reservation for 6pm (when they open) we were able to snag a booth seat intended for two people which was awesome. Our server was so nice and helpful. We were pretty exhausted from our travels and not sure what to order and she asked us a couple of questions of what we like etc and made some recommendations which we both loved. I ordered the Piquero and Racer Snake drink. I would have the Piquero cocktail everyday of my life if I could. It was refreshing and delicious. The racer snake was delicious and light but my heart just melted with the first drink. My fiancé had the Zayapa and Mr. Apple. Zayapa was very alcohol forward and the Mr Apple was more light and refreshing than his first drink. The Zayapa was more his favorite because he loves to taste the booze All of the cocktails were amazing! Recommend getting a reservation even if it appears they have some time slots open because as we got got closer to our trip we noticed the entire week booked up. Enjoy! read more

We of course came here because of this bar being listed on the top 50 bars in North America. It was listed lower than two others we tried in Mexico City, but this place was finally my favorite! We didn't feel rushed in and out, we loved how we could interact with the bartenders and they were all friendly, and to top it off these were my favorite cocktails we tried in Mexico City. The tequila sour I got was my favorite sour I have ever had, and every drink was complex and tasty, and not too stiff for me. To top it off, it's in the Roma Norte neighborhood which is a must to check out as well. Definitely don't leave this one off your list when touring a cocktail bar tour in Mexico City! read more
