Amazing place seems to be the locals' favorite. A popular hangout place after dinner. It gets really busy during the prime hours after dinner post 8pm even during weekdays. Do yourself a favor to make a reservation. Or you can try to walk in for pre dinner drinks, which is usually a success if you don't mind sitting at the bar. Sumi is one of my fav, you can smell the floral smell before drink it. I would only recommend to get only one egg white foaming drink, as it gets a bit too much if you have two in a row. Dry martini for 110 pesos on Tuesday is a steal but don't expect anything more than a basic dry martini. read more

Unfortunately 0 stars isn't an option. Place was half empty and the server wouldn't let us utilize any of the space to grab drinks. He crammed us between two large groups while comfy tables where available the whole time. My friend wasn't drinking but ordered a lemonade. He didn't touch it and wanted to leave so I asked to pay my drink and the server was insistent that he couldn't remove the lemonade from the bill. Smug service with tacky vibes. Amazing cocktail bar with great decor. As soon as I saw the animal skulls, preserved butterflies, and marine animal models on display, I knew this was my kinda place. The place isn't small by any means, but it does get popular. There's bar seating, a couple of couches with stools, and sidewalk seating. When we got there, the server asked if we wanted a table (we said yes), and we thought it would take forever while we waited at the bar. But the second a table opened, he called us over. We hadn't even had time to order drinks yet. That's great service. The drink menu is very extensive. There are whole menu sections devoted to daiquiris, martinis, negroni's, highball drinks, and various liquors in the back. But my absolute favorite were the punches! They come in cute little mini decanters that your pour yourself into teacups. The Penedes Punch was made with brandy, sake and oolong tea. Served with frozen grapes instead of ice. Pretty damn amazing. Might be one of the best cocktails I've had. Also had the Chevanreaux Punch, which was on the sweeter side. That one was with vodka, vermouth, and garnished with cucumbers (and of course the frozen grapes). Service was wonderful. The fresh-faced server was walking around frantically all up and down the bar to take orders and bring them out. Somehow, he never missed when we needed to order. Probably my favorite bar experience in CDMX, but there was one thing that greatly annoyed me (and it had nothing to do with Baltra at all). Rant time: We witnessed several large groups coming in and being very bossy and demanding about there not being enough space for them. It's a popular bar. You can't just walk in with 8 people. Have some goddamn commen sense. Goddamn entitled American douchebags complaining about everything. They complained about how long the drinks took (there was just one main bartender, and he made drinks pretty damn fast). They complained that their table didn't get a bowl of olives (those idiots didn't order any martinis). And then they had the audacity not to tip. The guys working here were busting their asses to keep everyone happy, but I guess you can't please everyone. Especially jerks. read more

Cozy bar in Condesa without all the loud music and waiting lists as some other cocktail bars in the area. The bar's menu booklet features a spin on classic cocktails and some fantastic original cocktails as well. The range of liquor alone here is impressive, especially the vermouths and even some amaro!! Baltra also creates their own in house syrups for various beverages. I highly recommend you sit at the bar and watch as the bartender and owner, Dany, does his magic. At the end of the night I found myself not wanting to leave, captivated by the complex drinks and sounds of Donna Summer. This will be my only drinking spot next time I am in CDMX. read more

In my opinion, Baltra Bar was just okay. The ambience was very much hipster closet. The drinks were super tiny and not that strong. Their only cider option was good though. But for some odd reason the cider was served in a 5 oz cocktail glass so it looks like they were just being cheap. Adversely, my boyfriend seemed to really enjoy Baltra bar. Too bad he isn't the one writing this review. However, he seemed to enjoy whatever came alongside the mezcal shots. read more

We contacted the bar in advance to make a reservation. They said Sundays are not busy and we would not need a reservation. It was the Sunday before a holiday and the bar was packed. It's a small space. The bartender and host/waiter did their best to accommodate everyone. The drinks were some of the best we had in Mexico City. We came here with high expectations given the overwhelming positive reviews and recommendations. The experience left a lot to be desired and we wished we could experience what others are talking about. The bad: 1) The drinks were terrible. We tried various mezcal cocktails on the menu and after having a lot of good mezcal (neat & in cocktail form) during our trip the drinks paled in comparison. The flavors were disappointing. May be the bartender was having a bad day or wasn't one of the awesome ones that people are talking about. 2) Atmosphere & Ambience - For various reasons they whole bar was smoky. There were lot of people smoking outside and the smoke kept blowing inside the bar. We switched spots and no place to hide. Visited Baltra with spouse and had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of the drink selection and coziness of the place. A little slow when we visited and we had a delightful conversation with the bartender who we could tell, enjoyed his craft. We ordered 4 drinks (2 each) and all of them were flavorful and exactly what we wanted. The mezcal drinks (1 smoky and flavorful, the 1 other was light and refreshing) were exceptional and the environment was light and easy going. Totally recommend checking this place out, also want to mention that pricing is on point for cocktails. read more
