Chance find and absolutely delightful... We just stepped in for a drink and landed up spending six hours there. It's not that it has a great selection of cocktails but the vibe is simply exceptional. The servers are warm and welcoming. They constantly take care of you. It's a great 'walk-in and chill with a drink' kind of bar with some really yumm Mediterranean appetizers. I also liked that it's well priced. Towards late evening this place starts turning almost into a nightclub with dimmer lights, loud music and more crowded. Now THIS was a meal! We walked around for quite a while searching for just the right place for our only meal in New York. Everyewhere had quite a long wait. Luckily, Balzem had a table. They said we could only have it for an hour and a half before it was needed for a reservation and we happily took it. Now... I'm a meat and potatoes kind of girl. I like carbs, cheese, grease. All the terrible things. And there was very little of that here. Despite that, This was my favourite meal during my vacation. Ahhh.. pre-covid life. I met some friends here for dinner back in early March, and we absolutely feasted on the brochette platter and grilled veggie platter. There were so many delicious sauces, each bite was better than the next. We also had the zucchini pancakes and burrato.. my mouth is watering at the memory of this meal. I loved the interior of the place, it had such a cool and intimate vibe without being too "only for romantic couples" vibe. They had frose as a happy hour special so I ordered one while waiting for my friend. Nothing special, over priced, probably like half full. I was looking forward to this place for past few months. Glad they opened up and are doing well. We took a reservation for two for indoor dining. When we arrived we were told they are out of capacity, and yes for sure they were. I wish we were told it was either going to be indoor or outdoor, as we weren't dressed for outdoors as we assumed we got indoor dining resy! Outdoor dining was cute and they had these heavy curtains which kept us quite warm. Our server was nice as he kept checking on us now and then. I had high expectations on the drinks, but they were quite mediocre. We got the L'Epice and the Ginerva. I have heard from my friends that the meat entrees are great. For vegetarians it is a bit meh. We got the hummus and feta dip. They have a long way to go and come at par with other Mediterranean places. The mushroom flatbread was good. Very disappointing experience. We came in for a light dinner and ordered 3 apps and a main. The single small octopus tentacle was good, the "seared" tuna was inedible - serve barely warm and smelled strongly. The burrata was hard and not fresh. For the Main, the lamb chops were very underwhelming... we were still hungry so we decided to get more apps and not venture back into the cold. My friends and I made a late reservation here on a Friday night. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink while we waited for our table to be reset. The bartender promptly took out order and helped us decide on a wine from their large selection. After a bit they transferred us and our drinks to a table without any fuss and we were able to order immediately as we had already looked at the menu. We ordered the Mezze Platter and the Lamb skewers for the three of us. The dips were well flavored and there was plenty for us, accompanied by pita triangles and cucumber slices. While going through the plethora of options from the brunch menu, the waiter gives out complimentary bread/olives as well as cucumbers/tomatoes. Always a plus to get free food to start while also getting the appetite going. For my meal, ordered the Lavash Egg Wrap ($14), Mimosa ($7), and a cappuccino (price not listed). The wrap is a lightly toasted flatbread filled with salami, eggs, peppers, and cheese. Filling was really good, especially with the amount of cheese added. The lavash wrap itself was a bit tough - think regular tortilla would have been better. Side salad was a just a few leaves, nothing great. Mimosa was strong and the cappuccino was excellent. It wasn't heavy, had a good amount of beef sausages on it. The pesto pasta was decent. I am not sure if it was the language barrier OR it was truly a busy night, but the servers were very unhelpful and everything just came in piece meal. We got the Spicy Feta Dip and Zucchini Pancakes for Mezzes and Shrimp Carnival for the entree. Loved the Zucchini Pancakes and my husband thought the carnival was akin the gumbo so that's a win! No reservation and the place is small with everyone crammed in, but we fit in ok. We sat in the back away from the door since it was pretty cold. The service was good...very friendly indeed. The food was excellent. Wonderful hummus, perfectly cooked roasted vegetables. I also got the shrimp appetizer which was great, definitely NOT overcooked like some shrimp can get. It was good tasty food, healthy, and fresh flavors. By the way, the happy hour rocks. Big glasses of bubbly for $6. How can you beat it? My friend introduced me to this place as she has been here a couple of times in the past and spoke very highly of the food. The place itself is super cute and cozy. We came here on a Tuesday around 3 pm and we got seated immediately. Our waitress was extremely friendly and sweet. We shared a truffle mushroom pizza, fries and truffle mac and cheese between the two of us. The truffle mushroom pizza was definitely the highlight of the meal, it was delicious. The crust was extremely thin and crispy and the flavors went together so well. The fries were a close second, as they were perfectly seasoned and so crispy and crunchy, one the best plates of fries I have had. The truffle mac and cheese was also delicious but it was a bit oily but still yummy. When the food came out, it did not look like a lot of food, but we were so full from our meal and we definitely went in there hungry. First time here last night. Had a reservation for 2 for early dinner on a Wednesday. I showed up 25 min early and they seated me at my table no problem. Super friendly service. The inside of the restaurant is so cute and pretty! I had two glasses of merlot. Not sure what happened with the person who wrote a review that it was a light pour. I had two good pours. Didn't take a picture but the wine glass was 70% full which was exactly what I would have wanted or expected for the price. We started with the hummus which was tasty and so was the pita (not too thick, usually I eat too much pita and can't eat my meal! Perfect amount of pita for an appetizer). I got the grilled veggies with falafel and my fiancé got the burger for our mains. Their fries are very yummy (but not included with the burger). I loved the veggies. Great mix of veggies and they were charred and had real grilled flavor. My fiancé said the burger was okay. He should have gotten the manti! Dessert was tiramisu which was light and fluffy. We stayed about two hours. The service was perfect honestly. It's usually service that makes or breaks a place for me and this place wins. We weren't forgotten about at our back corner table and we never felt like we were rushed to finish and leave either. Really great service. Was at a group dinner with a bunch of friends, served us raw chicken skewers... my friends were obviously more polite and understanding than I was because I would've normally flipped a switch. When we brought it up with the waiter who clearly saw the chicken was raw, no apologies or understanding response was given to us. A simple collection of the skewers from everyone at the table and then replacing it with properly cooked skewers. Yuk!!!! In retrospect, my husband said we should've asked for a manager... he thinks it may have just been a waiter covering up for the cooks in the back... It's a shame the food isn't good because the vibe and music is great. The wine pour is VERY weak. I mean I've never seen a glass of wine that was so little. The feta dip- had no feta in it. It was honestly just nuts and I don't even know what else. It was gross. The blonde HOST is HORRIBLE. Hates her job. Angry. I checked in and told her it was one of my guests birthday and she said you can tell you server. NO sweetie - you tell my server... my guest will see me ask my server. The restaurant is small.
