Saw this cute Italian place in shopping center behind a gas station on our way back to our room from the Battlefield Mall, so decided to hit it for dinner. It's a small place, but also had plenty of room as well. The decor was mostly art for sale from local artists. Our orders were taken quickly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I liked that with the bread you get a plate of garlic, and there are bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table. My wife got the crab cakes and pasta, while I got The Momma. Both were very good, and with good-sized portions that we were able to take in leftover boxes. Service was mostly good, except our college-age server was slow to get soda refills. Well it's been 8 years since I last had bambino's... I had good memories of the food being good and portions being good. Either I was wrong or they changed. We will not be back, ever. We got in after 30 minutes of arrival, which is fine. We got our food after 45 minutes of ordering, which is ok. They gave us some white bread that looked good with a plate of minced garlic. It looked so good and we were excited, as soon as we touched the bread it was cold to the touch. We were expecting at least warm bread. So it wasn't great and we didn't even eat it all for the first time of our existence. Then we order an appetizer, the garlic cheese bread... I had one piece and was done my husband at 5 pieces and was done. The bread had an ok texture but the flavor seriously lacked, there was 0 taste of garlic and it had a strange cheese taste, definitely regret ordering it, debating whether we should box it up to go or not... yikes! I don't know how you mess up cheese bread but they did. My husband order the New Yorker panini, he stated that the bread was bad and it was way too salty overall and he loves salt. He only ate one half, and the pasta salad he got as a side, it was ok to say the least and lacked flavor as well. I ordered the toasted ravioli appetizer as my meal, and it was kind of fine. It was barely lukewarm, the crust was crunchy and good but the beef was barely seasoned. Plus side it is big portions, bad thing is it wasn't good so now we're left with bad big portions. The ambiance is chill and it gets very loud where you can't hear the other to converse. The only Italian thing about this place is the name. We were first timers, based on family recommendations we came for an early dinner at Bambino's. We enjoy old world-type traditional Italian cuisine and this met our expectations. No red & white checkered tablecloths and actually some very nice artwork adorning the walls gave us a subtle classy feel. The menu was pretty traditional and I chose the Ziti and my wife liked the Alfredo. Portions were very generous so we'll enjoy more tomorrow . We also had an excellent server. We meet again, Bambinos on Battlefield. We had a ten-ish minute wait that evaporated quickly. Our bread was sliced thinly with olive and vinegar drizzled over garlic. To die for. Hubs had culinary goodness in the Diana. The creamy Alfredo, noodles, shrimp, and tender broccoli made it a meal for gods. I had the Zia as I did several years previously. It held the creamy Alfredo, chicken, and mushrooms there ever was. I am the tea drinker that should be given a small pitcher of unsweetened tea and a straw for any occasion. Our server was amazing-smiling, refilling our teas. She was 100% grace. Been going here for years. The young girls he hires never get an order right anymore. In the last 7 months of 7 orders zero have even remotely correct. Pretty sure I'm never going back and am sad because the food is good but never correct. Picked up a sandwich tonight with only turkey, salami & cheese tonight and the other half normal with no mayo and mustard. Got a complete regular full everything sandwich like normal now because they don't take off or add anything. Bread was definitely from last weekend as it wasn't edible crumbled like crackers to ducks. Meat was burned like it was frozen when out directly on the griddle as was also inedible because only the 1.5" canter wasn't burned. Asked for meat sauce for the raviolis, paid way too much, and gave me a ramekin of sauce that only lasted 2 bites but costed an extra $4. Sandwich we threw away, 8 raviolis was thrown away. Don't loose $30 dollars you'll throw the food away for. If they can't hire competent employees don't waste your time with this place. read more

Super bummed about our experience with Bambino's take out yesterday. We ordered the Bambino's Panini, New Yorker Panini, the Greek Salad and Tiramisu. The paninis were both difficult to eat, and I'm not remotely picky. Both of them had a 80% bread to filling ratio. The only flavor other than bread that came through was salty meat. I like cured meats, I know they'll always be salty. But they have to be balanced in a sandwich with some freshness. I opened one of the sandwiches and there were two extremely thin slices of onion and one piece of lettuce the size of a quarter. It was laughable. The bread was soggy with sauce but somehow there was no flavor of the condiment. I've had gas station premade sandwiches that were much better. For $11 a piece this was insulting. The Greek Salad was pretty good. The dressing was zesty and bright. Everything felt fresh. It was a bit overly salty from the olives and cheese (and I love salty/briney; but again, balance). The portion was large and I think it was a good value. The tiramisu was really disappointing. The lady fingers were just completely overwhelmed in liquor and extremely mushy. Not a lot of flavor besides boozy. Not at all the quality I would expect even from a casual Italian establishment. My husband and I rarely eat out because it's just not in the budget. It's a real treat to us, and I'm happy to pay a fair bit for a local meal. I do not take leaving small businesses negative reviews lightly. I know ingredient prices are high, labor is high, and everything else. But despite everything being fresh, what really bummed me out was the overall lack of effort/attention to detail. Got right in and seated at 4:30PM on a Friday, staff was at the table immediately to take care of the 4 of us. I wish they would warm the complementary bread, 1 of our party ordered the GF cauliflower bread which was quite good. Also their salad left a lot to be desired, a lot of lettuce with 2 cucumber slices and 2 red onion slices and vinaigrette dressing. All 4 of us enjoyed our entrees. read more

Met up for dinner here on Saturday just after 6pm. Our party of 2 was about a 30 minute wait on a warm July early evening. There are 4 tables out on the patio but only 2 had umbrellas. We were seated at a very cozy 2 top tucked into a corner. I liked it. We both tried pizza. It's thin crust and they are incredibly generous with the cheese. If you really, really love cheese then you'll be thrilled. I am an olive person and at Bambino's the olive option on your pizza is Kalamata and they do not slice it up. You get the whole big beautiful olive on your pizza. We like this place. Definitely recommend Bambino's. read more

I have been a frequent customer for many many years, but the last two times I went I was disappointed. The Alfredo used be the best in town, but the last two times it was bland and very runny. We tried Bambinos on Battlefield again, hoping it had improved to the status of their Walnut St location or even approached their Delmar locale...not happening. While we were seated promptly, it was only a Wednesday evening. The place was starting to get active along with the waitresses. Ours seemed a bit shy but was efficient. The small complimentary baguette she delivered was fresh but sliced far too thick - five pieces about 2" thick each - with no butter but fresh chopped garlic on the side We used the almost empty bottles of oil & balsamic vinegar at the table to fashion a nice dip with the garlic. We ordered two glasses of vino and an Italian appetizer staple, bruschetta, which was brought out fairly promptly and reasonably prior to our entrees. This bread was lightly toasted with a most ample amount. Calling the bruschetta "chunky" is an understatement as it looked like peeled tomatoes pulled from a can, overwhelming the properly chopped tomatoes barely seasoned with fresh(?) basil, oil & garlic. It wouldn't even sit on the bread it was so large...easily the most disappointing we've ever had. My wife had her mouth set on the Crabcakes with Pasta, but the waitress advised us that they were sold out...at 6:30pm...on a Wednesday...so she instead asked for The Diana, consisting of shrimp & penne with an Alfredo Sauce. I had the Portobello Ravioli to compare to the wonderful dish I had at their downtown Walnut St location. My wife ate half of her pasta, stating the bread had filled her up. Mine was decent but nowhere near as flavorful as on Walnut St. The waitress appropriately brought the bill as we paid and vacated. Bambinos sorely lacks consistency between stores with Battlefield clearly the laggard. We were a little apprehensive, as there were three reviews posted just an hour before... all indicating one star and terrible reviews. We've never been here and finally decided to stop in. I'm glad we ignored their ranting. Everything was delicious. We started with the bruschetta, then shared a personal sized pepperoni and sausage pizza and the Ziti. We were fighting over last bites. This italian eatery is modernly traditional. The environment is warm and inviting; even the bathroom faucets are eclectic and stylish. The mini loaf of bread was fresh, soft and sweet. The olive oil and red vinegar were fresh. The zitti was absolutely delicious and infused with ground, fresh sausage, and red wine tomato sauce. Tons of golden brown cheese covered it. Yum! The house salad was fresh and the caesar salad dressing was delightful too! By the way, there were so many good pasta selections on the menu that I needed extra time to down-select a lunch meal. The food here was HORRIBLE. I got the ziti, and it tasted like ass. Instead of a normal meat sauce, it had roast in it???? So my pasta tasted like roast. Don't even get me started on the artichoke dip ! That dip was so watery, it tasted like ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I have served plenty of times in my life time and worked in countless kitchens, and when I say that food tastes like it comes from a bag, BELIEVE ME! The quality gives banquet meal, and it's gross. A bit of a disappointment. Husband chose 2 topping pizza. When delivered to the table it was very brown and looked over-cooked. He actually ate several pieces so maybe it wasn't too bad. Our daughter ordered the Valentines Day shrimp ravioli special. She took a few bites and set it aside. The shrimp tasted very fishy and not good. I had the Zia which was very cheesy and pretty good except for the old tasting chicken. The server did comp my daughter's meal which was the right thing to do. The server was enjoyable and she refilled our iced tea and water glasses. We appreciated her good service. This cafe isn't very big and in some cases you get packed in a little too tight. A nice, quaint little Italian cafe. Bambinos has a really nice vibe inside, along with some seating outdoors when the weather is pleasant. It feels as if it's a cross between a more upscale Italian restaurant and a laid back coffee shop. Service was friendly and our waitress was very attentive. She offered us bread with garlic for starters. I went with a sweet tea to drink and it was refreshing with just a touch of sweetness. For someone who is not fond of overly sugary drinks, I definitely enjoyed it. I went with the vegan option, The Sorella. It was filled with fresh vegetables and was pretty good. It's great for a light meal, since the lunch portion is relatively small and does come with a soup or salad. The prices were quite reasonable given the solid food and great service. A lunch date for two came to just about $20, including drinks. Not bad at all. I would come back if I'm in the area again. read more

Went there looking for something new possible a hidden gem and when we get there the location is real shady and right next to a gas station that should have been red flag one but I pushed on. Went inside to a whole one customer sitting down.. should have been red flag #2 but as you can guess... I. pushed. on. I sit to order and get served bread the bread was decent and the oil tasted weird. They brought us a small plate of chopped garlic and it tasted like it was old and sat for a while. We Got a spinach and artichoke dip and what we got served was a mushy soup of stuff that tasted like gross cheese and looked gross. Passed on that and got my main course which was Ziti and Alfredo. Got two different ones to try them out I had hope. When i got my food it was looking okay and when I took my first bite of the ziti it was gross and the meat tasted like it was off of a roast beef and the noodles were burnt on the edge like it was microwaved and the noodles were so overcooked and nasty. Even though I'm usually very happy with the food at this place, the service has just gone downhill very fast in the last couple years. Idk if the kids they hire just don't care or aren't trained well or what, but something isn't working. On our last visit, we were seated in the corner of the dining room by the hostess and were there fully 15 minutes with NO SERVER. No one came to the table. We got up and left and let the 3 girls at the front who were laughing and have a great time that we were leaving and why. They laughed. Really? If I were the owner, I'd clean the whole place out and start from scratch. And if those kids are the owner's kids, shame on y'all. We stop at Bambinos every time we are in Springfield. This is the first time, however, we have tried the location on Battlefield. I think I actually like this location better than the other because it is roomier and better for larger groups. The food at Bambinos is absolutely delicious! I've never had anything bad here. The portions are huge and if you want to split a dish, they will split it for you. I also love the fact that they have gluten free pasta and it's tasty! We ate dinner there on 9/26 and it was a great dining experience. We arrived early - about 5 PM - to beat the evening rush. Our waitress was the best. Since it was our first time there, she made suggestions and gave descriptions of the menu selections. We ended up sharing two different entrees and both were delicious. We both agreed that the Portabello Ravioli was best. We got two tiramisu's to go and enjoyed them later. They also were extremely good. Me and my family had a horrible time here. It has a horrible atmosphere. Food is bland with a poor texture. Staff is Terrible, takes for ever to get food. The hardest thing to mess up is the dessert. I really wish I could give 4 stars, but we had waited for a bit after we were seated for someone come to our table to even take our drink order, Once we ordered our drinks another server came up to get our drink order, and I stated we ordered them a few mins ago, but could we get some water also. Must say their water tasted really good didn't even ask for lemon to put in it, and Grandpa kept saying tasted filtered. When we were sat there was only 3 other tables inside, but time we finally ordered our food 6 more tables were in.. Once the servers figured out who was going to be our server everything went smooth.. We had started of with the Bruschetta, "Juicy chunks of tomato mixed with basil, olive oil and garlic served cold with toasted garlic bread" It was good even though never had it served this way before, we all seem to enjoy it other then the bread was a bit to crispy. Grandpa had their Chicken with Asparagus and Cherry Tomatoes "Pan roasted chicken breast served with roasted cherry tomatoes and asparagus" He really liked it and ate it all with no left overs, nice size portion for him. Becky and I each their 10' pizzas, I had basic pepperoni & mushroom I liked it a lot not to heavy with sauce and just right amount of toppings. Becky had hers with chicken & spinach. We had left overs and ate them on our way home on our 10 hour drive.
