We came here for the first time a few weeks ago because a local foodie influencer had posted that this was a really good place to eat. They included photos of the food and it looked great, so I thought we would try it out. The Chesterfield area is really cool and modern. Really chill vibes in this area, so we like to make it over when we can. We arrive at the side door and, after a minute or two, one of the waiters let us know that we can sit where we want. We take a seat and wait for a waiter to come over. It was quite a while before someone came over to greet us at the table and take our drink orders, but a lady finally did show up. She took our drink order and it was a while before she brought the drinks back. Then we were finally able to order our apps and food. It took quite a while to get everything, and what we actually received wasn't quite on the same level of what we expected to see. I had the chili spaghetti and it was not great. The chili was not chili-ing. It was a weird consistency and the overall dish was kinda thick and dry, if that makes sense. I also ordered a small, thin crust pizza, and it was like a cracker with cheese and meat on top. I didn't know it was going to be quite that thin, but it wasn't the worst thing I had ever eaten or anything. It just wasn't very good-quality. Everything here seems really highly processed and pulled from bags and bins. Ordering marinara sauce took forever to get. When I ordered one more after she brought one for my son, I never got it until we were done eating and ready to pay. Mind you, she didn't stay at the table long enough for everyone at the table to say what they needed; otherwise I could've ordered mine with his. I hate to say it, but Garbo's was kind of a disappointment. It has so much potential, especially with them doing trivia upstairs and with the business being in such a cool area. I'm not sure that we will go back. The food wasn't that great and the service needs major improvement. Also, when new customers would arrive and stand at the front door, clearly having come for the first time and not knowing the process, the staff would walk right past them without saying a word (multiple times). No greeting. No "have a seat where you'd like," or anything. I ended up waving people down and letting them know that they can sit where they want so they're not just standing there awkwardly, forever waiting for the staff to greet them. Not cool guys. Lastly, the restrooms were kind of dirty, mainly the floors. I got in and out to wash my hands quickly. Overall, our visit was pretty underwhelming. Not a fan of your sauerkraut pizza or a thin St. Louis crust from New Jersey and I'll take mine from New York, New Jersey. Anytime your sauce and meat and veggies were very good. I think I just ordered the wrong thing next time I'll order regular pizza with traditional crust and I think I'd be very happy here and boost my booster rating up. read more

The sauer Italian pizza is the bomb!! I get it every time I'm here. It sounds so quirky and weird but the ingredients together make an experience. The crust is thin and crispy, but the pizza is heaping with yummy toppings that come out steaming hot. Every bit is perfect. The garden salad is one of my top Springfield salad choices. It's heaping with always fresh greens and healthy toppings. The taste combo is so good I copycat this salad at my own house. You can't go wrong with Garbos. I have never had a bad experience here and I am a middle-ages picky ass woman. read more

We've usually had a great experience here, however, today me and my family (4 people in total) ordered 2 pizzas and 2 appetizers. We had to wait 1 hour to be told that our food had just been removed from the oven and one of the pizzas that we ordered was incorrect (we had asked twice if they had regular crust, they assured us they did, and so we ordered one pizza with traditional crust and one thin crust, however they both were thin crust.) The building was packed so we understand that they might have been stressed, but we still feel that the minimum requirements for service were not met. We were not happy with our service, however, the food was good, despite it not being what we had requested. We hope that our next experience will be better. read more

After an afternoon checking out all the fun things we were starving and someone recommended Garbo's . Pizza always sounds good so off we went. I was surprised to see not a soul in sight besides the bartender and a waitress. The location is bright and open. Good size bar area with a large amount of seating both up and downstairs. We ordered a house salad, pizza, sandwiches and pasta. Our salad was so freaking good. Super fresh, just the right amount of veggies and dressing mixed in. Delicious. Our pizza was good, but the crust was more thin than I normally would like. Good flavor though. The salad was my favorite part. My younger kids really liked their pasta and my son said his sandwich was one of the best he's ever had. Service was good and our waitress was friendly. read more

The debate over St. Loius style crust, sauce and provel cheese blends will not appear in this review. People have strong opinions on who servers the best St. Louis style pizza here in Springfield and I don't wish to enter into that conversation. For me what really stands out here at Garbo's are the baked subs and the salad's. The bread used in the baked subs is very good and holds up to the baking process. Another thing I enjoy is that Canadian Bacon and roast beef are the main meats on these subs. Now I must say if you like Canadian Bacon this is one of the few places that highlight it as a sandwich meat. They also offer a good selection of regular subs and pasta selections. As I said before not going to get into the St. Louis style pizza debate but there sure seems to be a lot of people that enjoy their version of it. The place is clean, with a cozy downstairs dining area, and friendly staff. There is also a small bar area if you are dining alone. For bigger parties there is an upstairs dining area that offers some privacy. Garbo's has been around for quite awhile in the Chesterfield Village center, and has a loyal following. For new comers and those that have issues with street parking, there is a large parking lot in back of the complex that will put you right at the side entrance. read more

The crust is cracker thin and ok, but the toppings are what make Garbo's pizza great. We both really like the cheese they use the toppings are good too. Really the only reason I dropped a star off of this review was the seating. Its cramped, and oddly matched. Bar meets restaurant meets clown car. Upstairs seating is better but downstairs is just claustrophobic. I get the feeling that at times the place must just get packed out and they kept adding tables closer and closer together to get everyone in. So call ahead and get an order to go. This is a great place to come for a casual dinner with friends, especially if you have kids! We love to sit on the outdoor patio upstairs becuse our son can run around without escaping. Great pizza and really great house salad. Canadian bacon was a little light but overall really good. Order cheesy delight and add hamburger. You get better toppings that way. They charge a lot for extra toppings so don't bother with shrooms go for meat if paying per topping. Bartender was friendly and had everything ready. Watch out Rocoos. It's with a sad heart that I give Garbo's a 2 star rating. I've been eating here for years, always had great food and pretty decent service. Tonight, however was unacceptable. We got there and ordered drinks. The waitress took our order and even wrote it all down. We then waited just shy of an hour for our food, including a salads, which was actually the LAST thing to come out. Half or food was missing and she somehow ordered us 3 12inch pizzas when we'd ordered 3 12inch subs. Now we were in a larger group of 10 people... Totally understand that sounds like a lot. There were only 2 other tables in the whole restaurant, a 2 top and a 3 top. I feel if you can't take care of 15 people for an entire restaurant, you're doing something wrong. The waitress blamed the kitchen yet when she read us back the order she entered, it was like she didn't even write half of it down then never rang it in. Then the manager comes up and doesn't understand what our problem is. I asked for my check 3 times and never got it. Finally after 40 minutes of asking for my check, I decided they held me hostage long enough. I had to have one of my friends cover my check so I could leave. I was there for over 2 hours for something that shouldn't have ever taken that long. My friends and I are all business professionals who tip well and like good food. Until now this had been our go to meeting place everytime we got together. Unfortunately, I think we all agreed tonight that it was our last. read more

We've been here several times before. Food is good especially the salad. We even order the salad for special events. After tonight I'm not sure if I'll ever go back. We went there tonight they weren't especially busy. We sat at a table that needed to be cleared off (probably should've been a sign) but it was the only table that fit our size party that wasn't at the bar. We sat there for at least 15 minutes and didn't even get acknowledged. We finally decided to move to another table after it opened up. The server went to clear the table that we were sitting at. I got up and told her we sat there for at least 15 minutes with those dirty dishes, they aren't ours and no one acknowledged us or anything. I showed her where we moved. Another server proceeded to wait on a table that literally sat down after we sat down at the new table. We decided at that point it was time to leave. I told the server we were leaving. The owner needs to evaluate the number of servers they have there. Customers will overlook a lot but enough is enough!! read more

My twin brother Brian used to work for these wonderful people when they were still just a tiny upstart in a small strip mall. Then, they expanded, broadened what they offered, and grew into one of the best restaurants around. The ambiance is amazing, the food is fantastic, the beer is adequate, and the staff is friendly (if not a bit young and crass).
