I stopped in for a lunch time meal . First visit and I wanted to try a different Chinese place as a venture seeker. Place was empty on a Sunday lunch time . I visited the men's room and I didn't take pictures as it would be detrimental to this review of a small family owned business. The son 6-7 years old was sitting at the empty bar playing video games on iPad while his mother was working as likely the owner,waitress,order phone taker, and maybe the cook too. I asked which ribs are better the boneless or the bone in ribs. She said the bone in . I ordered the bone in ribs, lobster sauce with add on shrimp for 2.00. I selected the egg roll, pork fried rice as the meal options. All food was extremely hot .maybe microwave too hot. Ribs were very hot and overcooked a bit Tough chew. Pic shows the bubbly juice from under the broiler too long. 2 ribs were in-fact Beefy, meaty and were the redeeming two ribs of the pile. Lobster sauce with the 4 shrimp arrived in a bowl with a spoon. The bowl was small portion. Very watery like soup and I needed the spoon. Sauce had no spices... meat was ok but Hamburg tasting with no flavors... shrimp were happy deveined . 4 shrimp for 2.00 add on I guess ok... Egg roll was hard as a brick ( a window breaker) and it wasn't fried ... maybe this was frozen then baked? Inside of egg rolls was ok and I used as a dropping in lobster soup .i don't think the cook is hand rolling fresh daily... I envision a zip loc stack of these egg rolls in the freezer . Rice was reheated in a microwave or from a steam pot. I must say that 4 regulars who appeared were working painters that came in while I was there . They did ordered beef and broccoli and white rice, chicken teriyaki did look a good lunch... maybe my choices were bad ones as others in life have told me. Carpet needs cleaning or replacing . Maybe the painters can update and paint the restroom? I try to support small family restaurants and this restaurant has been in operation for many years ... so patrons must be ordering a lot of take out as the place was empty on a Sunday lunchtime ...prices were I guess reasonable but it wasn't a 35 dollar lunch value for me. read more

Anytime I am visiting I try to get as much Chinese food as I can! We did a large takeout order from this restaurant It was carefully packaged and the gentleman working even opened the door to my car for me so I would not drop anything - how kind! I really liked that this place has reasonably priced combo plates so that way everyone was able to get exactly what they wanted Everyone was happy with their choices - I got the Peking ravioli and they were so tasty! The pork moo shu pork was also tasty. Someone let me try the beef and broccoli and that was tasty as well Locales in a strip mall with ample parking I would definitely eat here again read more

This place is pretty decent. They have a room for dining in but I got takeout. I went in to order and the lady at the counter was very nice. She said it would be about 15 minutes but it actually took 30. I got crab rangoons, pineapple fried rice, egg roll, spring roll and D16 which is orange chicken and pork fried rice. The egg roll wasn't that good and the spring roll was ok. The crab rangoons were pretty good but seriously lacking crab. What was surprisingly disappointing was the pineapple fried rice. It barely had any chicken or onions and they don't put cashews in it. Also it had a very dull one sided flavor to it. Now on to the orange chicken. The orange chicken was sweet, had a bit of an orange flavor and a hint of spicy. The chicken itself was pretty decent but some of the pieces definitely could have been crunchier. Last was the pork fried rice. It had a good flavor but was undercooked. One more thing, the hot oil. It's extremely spicy. The food overall was not good. The Szechuan shrimp was in a sweet and thick sauce that was not tasty. I have ordered this dish dozens of times and it has never had this type of thick sweet sauce. I'm so glad to find out they open back up for indoor seating and eating. I always find is never a busy place was just night was busy because it's Thanksgiving weekend and people were home to visit the family. We what is the house fried rice and a Pupu platter for one which ended up being perfect for the two of us I took my honey out that he eat after raving about the food from before Covid and when I will get back before the restaurants closing because of Covid. This night like before they had two people to diamond one waiter who is also the bartender who also took the autism phone in the main room for takeout and then there was one lady was doing the tea pots in the beverages and serving and then one for us in the kitchen cooking unfortunately this time the house fried rice came out cold and I didn't send it back but I figure they were busy because of COVID. Don't usually do this, but absolutely infuriated right now!... *I will NEVER EAT AT BAMBOO EXPRESS* in Bellingham again!...my sister ordered a take out last night and here is the experience. Ordered last night, and in addition to my order getting messed up, and missing items, my daughter ended up biting down on a STAPLE in the chicken and broccoli! Clearly i asked for a refund In talking to the asst. Mgr last night when all this took place. It was left that I would get a call today from the manager/owner. After I had to call her because she conveniently "could not find the note to call me", she basically called me a liar and told me that people say things to get free food. Drove through Bellingham and decided to stop at Bamboo Express to wait out a huge rainstorm- I cannot believe how amazing the food and service was!!!!! We ordered the Beef and Broccoli, Pork Fried Rice, Sautéed String Beans and the Hot and Sour Soup and were blown away by every single item! The meat and vegetables were incredibly fresh, everything was so tasty, with complex flavors and served piping hot! The food was super filling and satisfying without being too greasy, and the portions were HUGE! The Hot and Sour soup was less than $4 and was literally life changing, it was so good. The food was prepared quickly, the restaurant was clean, well lit, and quiet, and the service was great! Everyone who served us was incredibly helpful and friendly. What really keeps me coming back is the value. The food is great and one of the best chinese places in the area. Give it a try if you are willing to sacrifice atmosphere for value. After hearing about how great the Bamboo Express was, we finally decided to try it. We went in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was quiet due to it being mid afternoon, but it was very nice inside and very clean as well. We were met and greeted by Paul, the manager. He sat us and told us about the menu. Being our first time, we asked him for some recommendations. We started with a PuPu platter for two. Honestly, it was simply the best and freshest PuPu platter we've had in years! Delicious and piping hot, everything was fantastic! We then ordered the house rice, three delights in garlic sauce and using noodles. And again, everything was simply PERFECT. The Won-Ton soup is really good. It has won-tons, pork, veggies, mushrooms, and a wonderfully rich broth. I am always amazed that no matter how much food you order, the person on the other end of the phone always says it'll take 10 minutes. I'm also amazed that there's always at least 1 other person picking up their take-out at the same time as me, even if it's late on a Wednesday night... I recommend ordering the won-ton soup, the peiking raviolli (steamed), and the chicken with mixed vegetables or the house lo-mein (chicken, pork, and shrimp). The Bamboo Express is located in a strip mall that is hidden from the main road to which it is married. A Dairy Queen and a Honeydew Donuts obstruct the building. Once inside the parking lot, however, the restaurant marked by a yellow sign with red letters is hard to miss. The sign stands out against the off white color of the building, and the glass has golden boarders; both of these features will draw your eye. Once you step inside you are greeted with the infamous smell of Chinese food. The chilly air causes goose bumps to run up your arm. The woman behind the counter has a thick accent, is always nice yet can be difficult to understand. The dinning room is small and usually empty. Four chairs enclose each dark wooden table with a polished finish. The chairs have the same dark wood and polished finish as well as a reasonably comfortable cushion. At each seat, a Chinese Zodiac placemat awaits a customer who analyses the different animals and their respective meanings. After about 20 minutes, a distinct aroma performs a flourishing fanfare to announce the entrance of royalty-- an Emperor in the form of a plate in the hands of the waitress. There are abundant options on the menu that would qualify for royalty. Beef, poultry, pork, and seafood hooded in various sauces, each delicious in its own distinct way. The number of appetizers and sides is overwhelming. There is, however, a comforting fact that almost every option will add to the overall savoriness of meal. My own personal recommendation includes: General Gau's chicken, basil chicken, pork fried rice, beef lo mein, and boneless spare ribs. The restaurant's food selection has stood the test of time--each visit my grand expectations are reinforced. Bamboo express also accommodates take out orders, and it is very convenient. If you time your calling right, you can be in and out in less than five minutes. If you choose to partake in this crusade, you will be introduced to the most difficult test of will I have encountered. The ride home is agonizing. Like balancing a hunk of scolding ember on your tongue. The more one tries to ignore it, the more it becomes the center of his or her thinking. Eventually, this great torment gives way to great reward. The tormented may remove the ember, apply a magical healing gel to the wound, win two million dollars, and, most importantly, gain the privilege of delving into the various sweet and spicy flavors of the next feast. If you are not careful, it is easy to spend upwards of $40. Simply going down the menu and ordering what sounds appetizing is dangerous. The food is the Drano in the pipe that is your wallet. This problem does not stem from overpriced food; instead it originates from large portion sizes. A large pork fried rice be a meal in its own right. I once ordered $30 worth of food which provided me with dinner that night, lunch the next day, and there was still rice left over to incorporate into that next day's dinner. If you are conscious of over ordering, you can get a very filling, flavorsome, and well-priced meal.
