My wife had the pad Thai and as someone who isn't a major fan of pad Thai, I found myself eating all of it. This place is tucked away off of bethel rd in a strip mall. Never expected to have food so good. We started with the fresh spring rolls which were very refreshing and light. We then proceeded to have the Red curry and pineapple fried rice. The curry was excellent and I could really taste all of the ingredients. The pineapple fried rice was exceptional. Found another diamond for vegans and vegetarians nestled in the Sargasso sea of bad fast food on Bethel road. A nice variety of appetizers, salads, soups and entrees will have you coming back to try many different combinations. The Tom Kha soup is rich, spicy and delicious. I had the Green curry as my meal and asked for it spicy. It was that but the heat didn't take away from the flavor of the curry. Fantastic dish! I was thinking about dessert but my stomach said otherwise. But definitely the fried bananas (minus the ice cream & chocolate) or the sticky rice on my next go round. What a cute little place! I stopped in one day to place a lunch carryout order. From the outside I thought it might be a setup like Happy House where you order at the counter, take a seat and they bring the food out to you. This was way nicer. It's a real, honest to goodness, restaurant with tablecloths, silverware and wait service. At 1:30pm I was surprised it was about half full. I ordered the chicken satay which was spicier than I expected. (I do like spicy.) The Thai hot and sour soup was nothing like the Chinese Hot and Sour soup I've had. It's a clear broth with tomatoes, lemon grass, and mushrooms. I found it very refreshing. Next time I will eat lunch here or bring my husband here for date night. read more

We ordered takeout from here and our food was delicious. We got hot and sour soup and the veggies in chicken broth. The hot and sour was a perfect blend and the spice was on point. Came on a Saturday for lunch with some friends. The decor is super cute with wooden furniture, fake grassy hut-like overheads, and appealing pictures of their food. I asked the waiter what his recommendation for curry was and he suggested the red curry. I got that with chicken and had a spicy level of medium. One of my friends ordered the Thai iced tea and it was so sweet and pretty (see picture). The food took a while to get out, but it was because they had a lot of to-go orders. The food is very presentable and definitely instagram worthy! The spice level is no joke, medium was perfect, not too unbearable but brings tears to your eyes and makes your nose run a little bit. IT WAS DELICIOUS. I absolutely love when coconut milk is incorporated into dishes because it makes thing sorta sweet and has such a unique flavor. The chicken and vegetables were perfectly tender, especially the eggplant. It was so buttery and melted in your mouth. A very small place but the interiors are good. Good for a family of four. Not good for parties. The service was really quick which made me think they are trying to move people out so fast so that they can accommodate more people in. The chicken Satay is good. The fried rice needs some improvement. 4/5 for decoration, 3.5/5 for the food. You should try once. read more

I am SO happy a trusted foodie friend recommended this place. We moved to Columbus 2 years ago from a bigger city with a strong Asian community, and we have seriously been missing great casual Thai food. Every single thing about Bamboo was perfect and exceeded expectations. Service was so friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. Tables are gleamingly clean and the restaurant is well lit and cozy despite its casual ambiance. The spring rolls arrived piping hot, delicate and crispy on the outside, fresh and tender on the inside, with balanced sweet Thai chili sauce on the side. Tom Kha soup was exactly as it should be - creamy but not heavy, generous with flavors like kefir lime and cilantro, and the veggies inside were delightfully al dente. The pad see eew noodles were velvety soft and covered with just the right amount of sauce. The fresh broccoli was cooked perfectly, as were the bite sized pieces of chicken. My husband's Pad Kee Mow was bright, and the peppers were crisp and colorful. The only tips I can give you are: 1.) The "medium" spicy level leans a little more toward what we've experienced as "hot." Go for mild if you're nervous about it on your first visit, and 2.) Enjoy!!! The food here is just meh. The noodle dishes are missing flavor and spice. I don't know what it was but it just didn't taste that great. My friend ordered her pad Thai "spicy" and it didn't have any at all. I ended up getting the pad see ew which was okay. My other friends ordered pho (chicken and beef) the chicken in the pho was very dry. For the beef pho it didn't come with that much beef and was a bit salty. Again the pho was missing the pho flavor that should be there like the broth needed to simmer for longer. It just didn't taste like proper pho (and that's coming from a Vietnamese person). I was excited to come back to Columbus to get Pho since this was the place where I fell in love with Pho at this location. There was something about their broth that was very rich which kept me coming back for more. I was also a big fan of their spring rolls which were always fresh. I saw that the name changed from Bamboo Cafe to Bamboo Thai Kitchen and hoped that it didn't have new owners. I ordered my usual beef Pho and my friend ordered the chicken Pho. Both of the Pho's came at a different time, my friend had to wait to get his for an additional 10 min or so. My beef was over cooked and it seemed like it was sitting in the broth cooking for a while. The broth was extremely bland and had zero flavor. The cilantro they brought out was also lousy and looked old. My friend also noticed that the chicken Pho was also very bland and lacked in flavor. We liked our appetizers which were hot and cooked well. We both had the spring rolls which were ok and the chicken satay which we both liked. The only thing is that the peanut sauce was not as rich as it previously was. It was then that I realized that it must have gone under new management since the food was not the same. The inside also looks different but at least it was clean. I wasn't a fan of the food pictures on the walls as it made the place look tacky and cheap. I prob won't be coming back here and will have to go somewhere else to get my Pho fix! read more

I had ordered take out from Bamboo Cafe previously when my family had stopped there as they were heading out of town stopped there to eat Pho and said it was really good. I had ordered the pad thai with tofu (spicy). I thought is was okay, but it wasn't something I would go back to the restaurant for. My family was back in town this past weekend and we went to Lac Viet at the North Market so they could get Pho... my family said it was "okay," they've had better. We also went to Bamboo Cafe (their 2nd time) and they loved it. They said that although it much much more expensive ($10 vs. about $5) it was better and worth the price (they only get Pho when they come to visit Columbus or family out west...). My sister requested extra meat in her dish as well. I ordered the pad thai with tofu (spicy) and my experience was much better than my first experience. Although it was a little "greasy" the taste was pretty good and the "heat" was perfect (the 1st time it was pretty bland). The atmosphere is relaxing and the music playing through the speakers was something similar to a Norah Jones... The service was great - we were the only table for the majority of the time (Sunday at 11:30am), but 2 more tables were seated just before we were leaving. I would recommend Bamboo Cafe - there are Thai and Vietnamese selections... it's more expensive than the typical Thai or Vietnamese restaurants, but it was pretty good. I would go back if company was in town, otherwise I'll stick with Bahn Thai as my "regular" location for pad thai. Perfect as always. I got the fresh spring rolls and some Phad Thai. My tea was clean and smooth flavored as well. I asked for my Phad Thai to be extra spicy and the chef really knew the right level to set it at. It was a pleasant burn. Back in the kitchen they do a good job managing quality and flavor and this place continues to be my favorite. Ate here the other day, and it was really pretty good! I had the Tam Yum soup, chicken, it had the lightly cooked tomatoes and onions in the broth with the floating fresh mushrooms on top. The broth was a good balance of lemongrass and spice, it matches my "golden standard" I personally have! I had the pad Thai chicken, medium. The spice was correct but I prefer a little more fish sauce and lime in my Pad Thai As a personal choice. Good mixture of fresh chopped peanuts, Bean sprouts, and an OK amount of chicken. Could have used some egg I thought as well. The noodles are half the width of what I call, regular pad Thai, but it didn't affect the flavor. The red curry was fantastic, complex and had a good amount of heat. Soothed the burn with a thai iced tea which was smooth, creamy, and very sweet--just the way it should be. To be honest, I came here because i read that they served Khao soy and i was excited to find a place that have this dish in Columbus. But, unfortunately i was told the menu changed last year when the Restaurant went under new management :(. I drove 15 minutes here so I wasn't going to leave starving so, I checked out the menu and ordered one of my favorite dish that i haven't had about a year. Food review: I ordered the Pad Kee Mao with chicken and spicy. The dish came out piping hot, so hot that it smelled really burnt. The wok must been on a blazing high fire because the taste had a burnt taste to it as well. Granted the dish came out really spicy and they weren't playing about the spice level but, this has got to be the worst Pad Kee Mao aka Drunken noodle I've ever tasted. All I could taste was the burnt parts of the dish and spice. I can see they added fresh bell peppers after they thoroughly cooked my dish. The price tag for this dish was almost $13 and definitely was not worth the price tag. So, not only was it the worst thai dish i've had it was the most expensive. End food review My server wasn't very attentive either and was just hanging out in the back. No one checked up on me how asked how my meal was. Until it came to pay for my meal which was really speedy. The prices are pretty high and execution was horrible. No thanks. read more

Our stop at Bamboo Thai Kitchen was practically early-bird timing on a Friday afternoon. The staff were super-nice and we had a good meal. BTK is clean and well-appointed, a little fancier than your typical strip-mall setup. Not much has changed over the years, aside from an expanded menu. We ordered a vegetable soup, gyoza, and two big plates - pad puk (rice noodles with veggies) and pad woon sen (clear noodle with veggies). It was a great balance of sweet, spicy and savory. Would highly recommend. I ordered a cup and it was a perfect size but a bowl would be good as an only entree for lunch. I ordered the Bunn which is noodles, vegetables, lettece with a light sauce on top. Shrimp or pork is the option for protein. I ordered the pork and didn't care for the style. It tasted like thin cut pork chop which if you have read more about me, I hate pork chops. It was salty and chewy. The noodles were over soaked and plump. Not my idea of Thai cuisine, giving it the name, Bamboo Thai Kitchen but worth trying if you live or work nearby. Not a place I would recommend if you live on the other side of town, not worth the drive. Not wowed but optimistic it could be great. Since I moved to Columbus from California I have been searching for a place to remind me of home and have found it in Bamboo Thai Kitchen! I appreciated how the service is very friendly and quick and that the food comes out straight from the pan-- very hot! I ordered the vegetable dumplings and panang curry and was so excited by the aromas that I burned my mouth before the food had cooled appropriately. Both dishes were delicious and I did my happy dance throughout my meal. I also like that the atmosphere of the restaurant is calm and casual and that regulars are recognized by the staff.
