First, the name implies everything here is organic. It's not. Only thing organic is the shampoo/conditioner they try to sell you and the color. Expect to get styled with Big Sexy Hair and other pharmacy-level styling product. And they won't even ask you first, so that's fun. I came to Banana Tree because a previous salon was using quick color on my hair and it had slowly gone black. (I'm naturally fair skinned and have dark brown hair). I got paired with Sandy, who immediately told me my hair was definitely too dark and should only be worn by "Asian people." I was a little shocked by the culturally insensitive comment, but she's older and swore she could help me. I just wanted a rich brunette, not black. First mistake. Cue two rounds of highlights. And, while they looked nice, the highlights themselves were turning quite gold verging on blond--way lighter than I wanted or asked for. So, on my third appointment, I shared that my hair was getting way too gold and that I wanted my hair to be a rich brunette (The initial ask, actually). Sandy reacted really poorly to this, telling me that no matter what she did there was always going to be gold in my hair. She even took me outside to test several options to my hair. But it wasn't in a kind way, it felt more to prove herself right and to embarrass me in front of the rest of the salon. Ultimately, she said my natural color was the one that I came in with. (I was a little whiplashed by this considering I remembered her very culturally insensitive remark). She gave me two option: 1. She could do my roots darker then blend the color to the rest of my hair. But, she emphasized, there was going to be gold which is what I didn't want. The other option was to dye all of my hair the darker color. Have you ever had someone give you two options but they're not really options at all? That's what happened here. I was so overwhelmed by everything she was telling me and embarrassed because she was making such a scene that I agreed to just get rid of the gold. I really wish I had walked away instead. But I stupidly didn't. Sandy then put me under the heater much longer than I've ever spent there in the previous times at the salon. The result? My hair is jet black. And somehow the areas where I had highlights seem even darker--I'm told because the pigment had been removed and repacked with darker color. It's awful. I've never not tipped someone before. But I was so totally overwhelmed that I called the salon to remove the 20% tip I still gave her. The owner asked what had happened and that's when I burst out into tears. She told me to try putting baking soda in my hair to get it out and offered to help fix what had happened and talk to Sandy. Well, I tried to the baking soda and nothing happened. Then, I got a text from the owner saying Sandy had given me options but I had chosen what had happened to my hair. Ultimately, I got mean girled and bullied by a stylist who left my hair in a worse state than when I came to this salon. And I came to them for help! Stay away. It lies about being organic, pushes their cheaply branded products on you and the stylists gaslight you instead of helping solve relatively easy requests. I literally left that salon thinking I was going to have to shave my head or just continue keeping my hair black. After all, Sandy had highlighted my hair like crazy (which has made it unhealthy). And, I'm currently at another salon praying that they can fix what she so cruelly did to my hair. read more

If I could rate them less I would. Absolutely the WORST customer service I have every encountered. Used the website to book an appointment and no response, so I called and booked an appointment for what I thought was the 25th, but received a text message for the 18th. I showed up on the 18th to a closed shop. Confused, I called and left a message.....4 days later, still no response. They may give great haircuts, but getting an appointment is ridiculous! read more

There weren't really a lot of reviews for this salon, so I was excited to try a salon that boasted to be natural and organic. Made an appointment and they tell you upfront what the cost will be on the day of your appointment, based on what they think you will be needing. For me, it was to be highlights w/root color and a cut, so my end cost was to be $150. The day of my appointment I get there on time and she is taking care of another client. So while her other client is in the chair next to me, she starts the consultation with me. I tell her that I'm wanting a color style that allows me to go a bit longer than the usual 4-5 weeks for color. Typically, I can go 7-8 weeks, so for me that is perfect. She decides that instead of highlights, I should go for a bayalage. Having an idea what the bayalage consists of, I try to tell her that my hair has some grey coming in and that I'm concerned that as it grows out it will be an issue. Her comment to me, "Honey, don't worry about that. I have you covered." Hmmmm. I received a cut with long layers, then she styled it in a 70's style with lots and lots of hairspray. Typically a stylist will ask if you want hairspray before liberally applying it to your hair. FYI, I HATE hairspray. Later in the day, after I had pulled my hair up, the hairspray in my hair made my hair standup in some really really style, once I let my hair back down. Needless to say, it stayed up all day. My hair color instead of being a brownish color, closer to my natural color, it ended up being an auburn. There are only two places I've gone that have given me auburn color and they were both the owners of their respective salons. I ended up with no highlights, only brown on the top of my hair, with the blonde from my previous stylists peeking through. When it came to paying, I admit, I was a bit distracted with my new reddish, 70's hairstyle. I realized after the fact that I still ended up paying the $150 for "highlights" when all I received was the bayalage affect. Especially after she quoted my next visit as being $119, for basically the same thing she just did!!! I call it my stupid tax for not calling her out on it. As mentioned before, I went ahead and booked the next appointment, agreeing that I could last until 7 weeks. How wrong she was. My hair lasted only four weeks before all my roots were showing to the point that I had to figure out ways to hide it. And I don't wash my hair everyday, more like twice a week. As an end note, I didn't return to the salon, canceling my next appointment. Instead, a few weeks after this bizarre cut/color I made an appointment for a salon downtown. The stylist at this new shop made magic with my hair. My hair today is what I was expecting from Banana Tree. I ended up with highlights and lowlights, and she spent time talking with me and asking questions. We interacted well throughout the process. She shaped up my layers and rounded my hair, while educating me on my previous haircut. Her observations were that the previous person technically cut it right, but was lacking in skill. The straight across cut she gave me is better suited for people with thin, straight hair. Not for someone who has longer, thicker hair, in that case, a rounded cut in the back is better. Oh! And guess what? My cost for this fantastic service at this other salon????? $150!!! And I feel like a million dollars. My husband LOVES my new look. read more

I LOVE this place. Love using organic products. Such a rare find and so much healthier for my hair. Yes, they do blonde very well. Mandee is amazing with my long light blonde tones, cut and hairstyle. Coming from New York, that's saying a lot. Banana Tree Salon easy to get to, has convenient parking out front, is clean, comfortable, well decorated, and doesn't smell like a bunch of chemicals like so many salons I've been to in the past. I survived breast cancer twice and I'm always looking to replace everyday chemicals with healthier, more natural products. I used to go to a salon on Long Island, NY for years, but the Aveda products left my hair so dry. I thought it was just about my stress level, but the first time I went to Mandee at Banana Tree Salon I noticed it was so much softer. Must be the switch to organic. I was so excited to have found this salon when I moved to Blue Ridge, Georgia that I decided it was worth me driving an hour and half to get there. Plus there's some great shopping nearby. I was super excited about my appointment a couple of months ago. I show up the day of ready to go. My very words to the stylist were, "I'm so excited to have my hair lightened up for spring. It's been almost 6 months since I could get the time to have my hair done." I actually have blonde hair, but what I left with looked like someone dumped a can of walnut stain over my head and baked it in. It was aweful! I had my hair done yesterday with Mandy, and my hair has never looked better! She accomplished exactly what I was wanting (cool toned, ashy brown hair from a red/brown- total opposites!), and she went above and beyond to make sure I was 100% satisfied! I also have never had such a relaxing coloring experience! I was offered a drink from the get-go (just had water), and while my color set, I was given a glass of delicious wine (out of many options), and got to relax for 30 minutes in a very high-end massage chair! I hate to leave such a low rating since the salon is all natural and the owner is so nice, but alas. I went in with my friend for a mani/pedi, and while Carly did an okay job on our nails, she did not do an okay job with her mouth. This was supposed to be a relaxing experience, but it quickly went south when Carly showed her racism. She made jokes about being a white nail technician. She said, "When people ask me what I do, and I tell them I do nails, they're always so surprised. I'm the only white nail technician around!" She laughed like she was so clever and went on to white-splain how valuable it is to have a white nail technician because they understand what you want. She said that "the Asians can't understand you," and then she imitated an Asian accent. Carly has been with this salon for 3 years, and she is their lead nail tech, so I know this joke has been said before (especially since she just met my friend and I not an hour before this) and in the presence of the owner. I am white, but I do not support racism. I will not be back at this salon, and neither will my friend. This salon is the most amazing place I've ever been to! The staff are very friendly and excellent at what they do. They are eager to please. The house made shampoo and conditioner is the best I have ever used, and they will let you chose what essential oils you want to put in it for scent. I was excited to try a more natural salon. My experience began with a call the day of appointment asking me to change when I came in. I had subtle, brassy highlights in brunette hair that needed to be covered. She did a single process allover color meant to match my natural hair. It ended up darker than my hair, I was charged $80 and in 2-3 weeks the color was totally gone. Keep in mind, I don't even wash my hair every day, I have a shower filter and I use natural, gentle shampoo. I contacted the salon the following week and asked for some money back, offering to show her what happened to my hair. The owner told me they would only dye it again since 'it's a service not a product' and said there are no refunds beyond 3 days after. It would be hard to know within 3 days that your $80 color will be gone in less than 3 weeks. Is it fair to expect a client to drive and spend time on two color services when the first one was wrong and offer no financial repair? read more
