Went to see Joe Machi's appearance at Bananas. Was apprehensive about a comedy club in a hotel ballroom but surprisingly it worked well. First let me say the Renaissance Marriot is a small unsuspecting hotel but when you go in its Bright and Welcoming. Staff is welcoming and courteous. You are allowed to get their early end joy the restaurant and bar. There are lots of seating areas. And the bathrooms are impeccably clean. The waitresses within the ballroom work really hard. The food is fair they allow you slightly change orders like sauce on the side, or not toppings on pizza. There is 2 menu min per person and drinks or food count. The only things I will critique The parkinglot needs more lighting The temperature of the ballroom was cold and then it was hot. so there has to be a happy medium They need to open more rooms for people to stay overnight who do not want to drive home. A suggestion as there as to be a better system to enter because we were on line for a good 1/2 hour and the entertainment was suppose to start at 930 and didn't start till about almost 10pm. It should be at least 2 people if that is the case to let people in. The waitress did their thing that was what was more organized. Parking lot needs also either need an update or more space as we did turns and turns and finally look like the other show ended as to we found parking some people parked across the street at another hotel. My husband and I saw Jiaoying Summers headline a comedy show at Bananas a few weeks ago. She was great and it was a fun time! She was promoting tour dates online. We saw that her Jersey show at Bananas was on a Friday, while her Manhattan show at Sony Hall was Monday. Because of the dates, we decided to check out the show in Rutherford. This was our first time at Bananas. I read about how the club is situated inside a hotel; the group leases space inside the Renaissance Hotel on Route 3. My husband did not read ahead and was surprised as we pulled into the hotel parking lot (free parking btw, first come first serve, so try to come early). When you enter the hotel, pass the check in desk on the left and the hotel bar on the right. Head to the back. There should be signage pointing to which conference room was booked that night. Because of demand for the show that night, they split it into two shows - one at 7pm and one at 9pm. Earlier that day, the company emailed everyone to inform them of this and ask them to choose one of the shows. We went with the early one. A few minutes before 7, a man in a Bananas Club shirt signaled to the crowd that we were lining up to go inside and to have your email confirmations ready on your phone. Once you're let into the room, someone will seat you. Eventually a waiter will greet you and ask if you want drinks or want to place a food order. It's a two item minimum for each person. We just got $10 sea salt fries and soft drinks that night. Fries were good. The wait staff were friendly and hustling to take and bring out orders. It's a skeleton set up that does the job. The stage is small and you are very close to the acts. There is one speaker in the back. We were close to the speaker, and didn't have any issues hearing. I wondered though if the people across the room could hear. The vibe was good that night. All the comics had their own style and brought their A games. It was a really funny night. read more

I agree with other reviewers who complained about the physical venue itself. It's literally a room in a hotel that they cram as many chairs and tables into as possible. It's hard to get up if you need to use the restroom because you are packed in so tight. When you buy your tickets online you are added to a list and have to have ID that matches up to your order. When we went the air conditioning was out so they set up a few fans, which was something at least, but jeeze it was warm. Bananas does get a good number of very talented comedians and it's close to home, which is great for a night out. The venue itself is why I knocked off two stars. The food is pretty basic: chicken fingers, etc. and there is a two item minimum. As for complaints about comedians and the jokes they tell: it takes nothing to go online and look up the comedian you are thinking about seeing and determine whether they tell jokes you are comfortable with! Comedy is very subjective. Heckling a comedian you disagree with is not acceptable. Again do a little research; everyone is on YouTube, TikTok or elsewhere. ***1 1/2 stars*** I don't have a lot of background with comedy clubs/acts, and I can only think of two prior experiences - once to the Stress Factory in New Brunswick and another time to the Borgata to see Chelsea Handler. They were different environments; one was more of an auditorium/formal setting and the other was a quintessential club, with tables to congregate at, bar service, etc. Bananas is not like either of those, and to actually label it a comedy club is (pardon the pun) laughable and frankly disingenuous. I came here with two compatriots last night for the 7:30pm show, headlined by Bret Ernst of Cobra Kai fame. I was a last-minute fill-in for someone else, so I can honestly say I wasn't familiar with Ernst, nor did I attend because of a genuine, long-term interest in him or the warm-up acts. So grain of salt there. When we pulled in to the Renaissance parking lot, I thought it was a little odd that there was no visible signage indicating that there was a comedy club inside. That feeling was validated when we walked through the lobby to join a line...heading into a literal conference room. That's very key - this was not a room off the lobby that someone had invested time/money in molding into an auditorium-type setting for comedy acts. They literally just took a room that had probably housed a telecom convention or something on Friday afternoon, put an unnecessary curtain up on a wall (it's not covering up an entryway or anything), and shoved way too many tables in there. I've never seen anything like it. I initially told one of my companions upon first sight of the room that I literally thought there was a bingo tournament being held at the same time as our show. That's the vibe. Bizarre. Beyond the fact that it's massively cluttered/chaotic in the room, the tables weren't even set up in a way where every attendee could actually see the "stage" from their seat - many if not most of the seats are literally facing the sides of the room so when the show starts, you have to move your chair or awkwardly tilt your body to see the acts. And to add icing onto that uncomfortable cake, you have to be acutely aware of your neighbors because of how packed it is. If you're not paying attention, it's easy to inadvertently jab someone with your elbow as you arrange your body/seat. Just flat-out not a pleasant experience in that regard, and something that could be easily rectified if Bananas was willing to remove a few of the tables for better maneuverability. It's tough to look at that as anything other than a shameless, transparent cash grab. I didn't assume I'd encounter a high-class food and drink menu at a place like this, but even with the lowered expectations this was pretty rough. The food is pretty much fried junk food, with an emphasis on chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, etc. - a lot of items you'd see at a sports bar. The drink menu had no pricing on it whatsoever, which should have been more of a red flag. I decided to order a paloma off their tiny cocktail menu, and it was literally the worst I've ever had. It just tasted like gasoline with maybe a few drops of grapefruit. Just terrible, and to add insult to injury, this badly made beverage served in a plastic cup with a bendy straw cost $15. I've found cheaper drinks in the Financial District, where I can at least expect properly portioned cocktail ingredients and an actual glass. On the positive side (which isn't going to take nearly as long), our waitress was perfectly fine and efficient - every staffer seemed pretty busy in that chaotic environment, so it wasn't a situation that involved a lot of light chit-chat, but I had no issues in that regard. The bill had an automatic 18% gratuity added (which caused some confusion in the audience when one of the comedians reminded us to tip the servers - I heard several people telling others in their parties not to tip anything further, that it had already been included in the bill), but I wasn't particularly riled up by that; just something to be aware of though. And I thought Bananas managed to attract some legit comedic talent; Ernst in particular was clearly very comfortable in front of an audience and good on his feet. Not my type of humor, but he was very warmly received. The ticket price was about $32. Again, I don't have enough experience at places like this to know if that's considered high or not, but I DO know that I wouldn't have hesitated to pay $40 or $45 if it meant being in an actual club with comfortable seating. Who wants to spend money to feel like a piece of cattle jammed in a stockyard for a few hours? Save the money and go out on the town to a place that actually respects you and your time. read more

Came here with my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday and overall experience was pretty cool. We took chances on the whim and bought tickets in person rather than purchasing tickets online. Good thing there are seats available so we had no issues coming at door opening (1 hour before the show) to be seated and placed food/drink order. Our server was pretty good, our order came fast. Food was all junk food so I can't really give it 5 stars here. It was pizza, chicken fingers, fries...nothing healthy here so if your on any diet, screw it if you want to eat here. There is a minimal of two orders per person so you can order just drinks. As for the night's show, I'd laugh so much my face hurts. I will definitely come here again! read more

This is a new temporary Bananas location (Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel in Rutherford). This hotel has a very clean and elegant bathroom, has a full restaurant and bar called Finch's. As always the comedians are very talented and funny. Bananas do follow social distancing guidelines, the comedy room is located in a large conference room with a stage. The drink and food menu that Bananas offers is quite unlike Finch's menu. Bananas menu is quite limited with very few appetizers, entrees & drinks. We wish it offered a more varied entrees and drinks, such as Steaks, chops, coladas, frozen margaritas, etc. We would rather eat at Finch's restaurant than inside Bananas. *new location in rutherford* this location is overall better, but i think they have a few kinks to work out. 1 being the sound. its a huge room with tall ceilings, used for parties and meetings, but the sound bounces everywhere. there are 2 make shift speakers on stands, but only in the front. i think they gotta atleast 2 more speakers to the back of the room. the stage is small, which is fine, you can see clearly no matter where you sit, but i hope the eventually decorate it better. as hacky as the previous location was, it had its shitty charm. chairs are more comfortable here, the tables are set up better. the food menu seems way better here. i only had the fries for $7, and they were okay - just your simple steak fries. in regards to drinks, theyre priced at about $15. beers are about $8. 2 item min for shows, the parking is free, the bathrooms and venue are very clean and nice. read more

Went to Bananas last night for the first time, overall it was a very good experience and I would definitely go back again. Comedians - Anthony Rodia and Goumba Johnny were fantastic. Definitely recommend seeing them on their tour! The show did look like a legit sellout. After the show, Anthony gave out signed photos and also took pictures with everyone who wanted one (both at no cost). They were also selling tour T-shirts for $20.00 each. Parking - There were plenty of open spots when we arrived prior to the show, however when we left the lot seemed pretty full. I only saw 2 empty spaces when leaving. I would recommend getting here on the earlier side for a show and not coming at the last minute. There was also only 1 show last night so I can see how this can be an issue on a night with both an early and a late show. It's also in a hotel so a busy night could lead to even less parking. The Club - You need photo ID and the email confirmation when you check in to go to your seats. The line moved very quick to get in. We had "reserved" seats and wound up getting seated right in front of the stage. The General admission seats were just a little farther back but it is a small "conference" room in the hotel. No matter where you sat it didn't seem like there was a bad seat. From our seats it sounded great and there were no audio issues. The room is very plain, just tables setup with chairs and a small stage with a blue curtain behind it. Nothing fancy, but for a comedy show it worked. With the exception of a few tables up front for 2 people each, you will sit next to other people at a larger table. The tables were pretty close so if you are on the "bigger" side, it might be a little cramped depending on where you sit. Service - Was very good and quick. Our waitress came over multiple times throughout the night and we did not have to wait long for our drinks to come out. She did not take a credit card when we ordered and took it from us when we paid our check. The bill came about 15 minutes before the show ended which was a perfect time for that. They do add a 18% "service charge" into the check. Food - We did not eat, however the people sitting next to us did and they enjoyed the food. Appetizers, Burgers, Pizza, etc... were on the menu and ranged from $7.00 to about $24.00. A lot of people ordered food and it all looked very good when it was coming out. I would not hesitate to order food if I was hungry the next time I go here. Drinks - They had beer, wine, mixed drinks, soda, water, etc... on the menu. There were no prices listed, however we were drinking Corona Light's and they were $9.00 each. That's the same price that the bar was charging in the lobby for a bottle of beer. Pretty expensive in my opinion, but it is what it is. Kind of expected the higher prices going in so it wasn't a huge surprise. Last night was our first time at the Bananas Comedy Club. We went to see Ben Brainard and Zach Bennett. They were both awesome, very funny, and even did a meet and greet after the show! Unfortunately, the venue left a lot to be desired. It was in a small conference room in the lobby of a hotel. They have a minimum order of one beverage and one food item per person, which is fine. We arrived and waited 20 minutes, but still hadn't been even greeted by a server, so I ended up asking someone to come take our order. They messed up my boneless buffalo bites. I ordered them with the buffalo sauce on the side, but when it came out, they were sauced. I said something right away before the guy could even put the plate down. They took it back, but when the replacement came out the chicken was dry and still tasted of the sauce because they obviously didn't remake the order; they just put the same chicken back in the fryer. At that point, I was too hungry and ate it anyway. Then, when we received the bill, they had added on an 18% service fee, which we were not told about in advance, nor was it written anywhere on the menu or anything. I have been a Bananas customer since their early days in Hasbrouck Heights. Each time I left with a smile on my face until last Saturday. My wife and I with another couple enjoyed a nice dinner and then attended the 7:00 pm show at Bananas. We usually go only when we have seen the comedians before. This time we took a chance on seeing 2 unknowns and what a mistake. The first comedian Neil Rubenstein opens his act by saying he Fuc.... an Autistic woman (You can see this video posted on social media). I began to Heckle him and when the set ended I approached him along with a representative from Bananas and the hotel manager Anthony Harris (who was so apologetic). I calmly spoke with Neil and after not apologizing he told me to go Fuc... myself. The next so-called comedian Liz Miele started her show and halfway through she made an autistic joke. At that point, my wife stood up and yelled at her. The comedian went on to say that all people are autistic. We were out of our minds and started screaming at her. Liz posted on her Instagram that I started a fight with a customer (it was a shouting match) and thanked Bananas for removing us but she never mentioned anything about her autistic joke. Autism is not a choice and my son did not ask to be autistic. He will never talk, date, get married, or have children. I had never heard a comedian make fun of autism until last Saturday and for 2 people to make fun is disgusting. I am more disappointed at Bananas for ignoring our complaint. I know it does not matter but you lost loyal customers and we will not recommend your comedy club to anyone. read more

My partner and I had a great time at Bananas. I purchased tickets for us to see Nicole Byer and we had a total blast. There was no parking available, so we had to go offsite instead. There are plenty of signs to indicate where you need to go and we were the first ones in line for the 10 pm show. Since we arrived early, we had a great view of center stage. It's a very intimate space, so be prepared to cram in with others around you. You need to order one drink or item per person, okay no problem. They didn't list desserts and I already had dinner. I asked about dessert and they did have about 5 different items. I wonder why they don't have them listed anywhere? Probably because they don't make any money on it. I also ordered a water. Guess how long it took for a slice of Chocolate Cake and a water to be delivered to me? 45 minutes! Unless they are going to the well to get the water and are physically making the cake in the back (which they aren't), then there's no way you should be taking 45 minutes! When he was finishing his set, receipts STILL weren't delivered! You should be giving receipts right away with the orders and then add to them if needed because most people will not wait for them AFTER the show is over and most didn't. Therefore, you are now out of money and the waitress is out of a tip. It's unfortunate but true because I saw it a lot last night. The whole place was such a mess and so unorganized. We came to Bananas Comedy Club to see one of our favorite comedians. We were a group of 4 people. Our ticket cost, including service charge, was $144. Our bill for ordering 2 items each, including mandatory 18% gratuity, was $108. So minimum cost for 4 people is about $252 or $63 each. Can't say it was worth it. The night had an mc warming up the crowd who needs way more experience before he should be awarded the task of keeping the crowd engaged and laughing. He has some bits that if he worked on them longer might be good, but his energy, delivery, and interactions with the audience were off putting at best, offensive at worst. The warm up act was fine and we loved our headliner who did about a 60 min set. As for the venue, it's a conference room in a hotel so the set up looks a little bit amateurish, wish they had a slightly bigger stage, but it's workable. As for the food, about the quality you'd expect from a TGI Friday's or Applebee's. We ordered mozzarella sticks, fries, and Mac and cheese bites and they tasted like they came from the grocery store. I took the misses out to see the headliner Gina Brillon. This is a small venue inside a hotel, with about 10 to 14 tables. We ordered drinks- the Joker for me, Mai Tai for her. The Joker had some punch to it, the Mai Tai was sweet but will creep up on a light drinker. We had chip and artichoke dip, and it was good. The chicken quesadillas were ok, but a bit to crunchy/crispy. Those with dental issues should avoid it. Here's the big issue-seating. If you order Reserve tickets, you sit right I. Front of the comedians. That's cools, but if you're on the inside of two front tables, you'll have to turn your head to the performers all night. It's in a small conference room, so you shouldn't expect perfect view angles, but they could've still lined the tables up stadium style, at the cost of space for about two or three tables. Comedian lineups will change weekly, but parking is easy, food and drinks are good, but seating could be much better, so I think 3/5 is fair. read more

I've been here a handful of times over the years and have always had OK experiences. The comics are pretty good for the most part. Expect to laugh. They have a one item (I think) minimum which isn't so bad. 3 of us ordered a pitcher of sangria and that was good enough to meet the minimum. Decent sangria. $25 for the picture. As for the seating, I was really disappointed this last go around. They seat you in long banquet tables (rectangular - holds about 12-15 people). The head of the tables faces the comic (no one sits at the head and the foot of the table). That means that half the people will generally have a good view and the other half of the table has to turn their head 90 degrees the entire night to watch the show. Terrible. I had to look away several times throughout the night just to relax my neck. Why wouldn't you just turn your chair? You might ask. Well you can't. The chairs are so close to each other that any slight movement caused me to brush up against the stranger sitting next to me. I would've enjoyed it more had I been able to turn my chair. Show is good; seating is not. If possible I recommend you come early and ask for a good seat/view and maybe they will accommodate. read more

Just left Bananas. What great evening we had! Laughed all night! Comics tonight were Hannah Berner and Tom Kelly. They were Hysterical! Can't believe the Comic line up coming Next Month!
