I had not been in a few years since losing my husband. I stopped in on my way home from an event in Youngstown. It is definitely a hole in the wall kind of place, dark and dingy. I was seated by the kitchen and one of the servers, an older, bigger girl with dark brown hair (not my server thankfully) huffed and sighed literally EVERY single time she walked by me. It made the whole meal very uncomfortable, and I would not go back based on that alone. I would have sent her home with that attitude. The food was average, the fish a little small for the price. After sitting 30 minutes at the Jug and being ignored, we left to try this place (mind you I drove all the way from Williamsville!). Wow, like night and day with service here! Thank you for salvaging our night! Atmosphere is cozy and friendly. We only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. In the meantime, we got drinks at the bar and the bartender was fast and personable. Upon being seated, we were given menus that had so many yummy things to try it was hard to pick! The person I was with has already been here and ordered his favorite jerk chicken sandwich (which I sampled and loved). He also got the French onion soup which he also loved. I got the 1/2 roasted Greek chicken entree and it did not disappoint. The chicken was cooked to perfection, a bit crisp and very flavorful on the outside and juicy on the inside. The feta mashed potatoes were awesome, the dressing on the Greek salad was great, so was the little pita pocket it came with. Everyone we came in contact treated us like they knew us and I love that level of service! They even said goodbye from behind the bar on the way out, despite many other patrons being there. Driving around today looking for several places to eat. Had tried a couple others to show up and they were closed. Found this little dive here on Yelp and I am glad I did. If the restaurant hadn't been so cold inside I would have given them a five star rating. The food was amazing and decently priced. The service was excellent. For a dive the restaurant was really clean. This restaurant gives me the hometown feel where all the locals go. When we walked in you could tell many of the locals had shown up to watch the Bills game with their buddies. As far as the food, I ordered the ribeye steak sandwich and it was amazing. Be prepared you are not really eating a sandwich. You are getting a full steak. My wife ordered a chicken chimichanga and loved it. Daughter had chilli and loved it as well. The second supper (Day 2, Meal 3) of our Western New York family vacation was Bandana's Bar & Grill. Conveniently located between our second and third destinations of the day, and with good Yelp reviews to boot, we entered the restaurant at 6:10pm with high hopes ... but when we left at 7:50pm, we were pretty universally disappointed. In total, we spent almost exactly 100 minutes at Bandana's, and the one word that best summed up our experience was 'waiting.' First we had to wait for a table. Then we had to wait to place our drink and food orders. Refills? Forget about it! We had to flag down a waitress and ask for refills, then waited forever to get them. Our food orders came out of the kitchen in a fairly reasonable period of time, and our meals both looked and tasted great! However that was completely overshadowed by the slow and disinterested servers. My daughter's order was missing the side listed on the menu, and when we asked our waitress about it, she said she would take care of it, but nothing ever happened. No follow-up like "the kitchen forgot, so they are making it for you now" or "we ran out, what other side would you like to replace it with?" ... instead it was like the waitress just forgot about the problem the instant she stepped away from our table. Once we finished eating, we asked for our bill, and even that took forever, or so we thought, because it took even longer for the waitress to cash us out. Yes, we clearly were not from around here, and we knew that from the way we saw other tables who had come in long after us, handled much more quickly and efficiently before being sent on their merry way. PROS: unique and fun atmosphere, expansive menu, food that ranged from very good to excellent CONS: if you were a local your service was 3-star typical-post-COVID-slow, but everyone else was bascially1-star ignored by the disinterested wait staff Overall I am going to rate Bandana's Bar & Grill as being OK I Guess and say that we might or might not return, but that is solely based on the strength of their kitchen. In reality, I doubt that my wife or any of our three children would be willing to return because the service was so bad. read more

This place was near an AirBnB we were staying in and after a long travel day, we didn't want to go far ~ So thankful we tried this gem! This is just a great spot for neighborhood comfort food and much more than the biker bar it looks like. The Brussel sprouts appetizer was the best Brussel sprouts we have ever had! They were roasted perfectly and then tossed with feta, balsamic vinegar, tomatoes and herbs. The portion size was unbelievable ~ plenty for four. This was a daily special so it is not on their regular menu. We also had the French onion soup, another daily special. Again, delicious! The caramelization of the sweet onions topped with the cheese was perfection. We were full from these appetizers but we did order Monday night regular menus options ~ Mac and Cheese with Chicken and Mac and Cheese with Cajun chicken. The sizes of these plates were huge! One serving is plenty for two. However, we enjoyed the leftovers! Spirits ~ there seemed to be plenty of draft options along with mixed beverages. The onion strips came out in a huge dark oily pile that almost stuck together in one greasy clump and tasted like their fryer oil hadn't been changed in a year! They didn't have bacon so had to order the Mexican potato skins instead of regular which ended up making me sick before I even finished dinner! My 2 kids ordered the nachos with beef. They came with so much lettuce you couldn't tell what else was on it...because that was the most of what was on it we realized. Then my daughter was eating hers and found a hair! My husband ordered the Beef on Weck which was the best meal of anyone's but it still just tasted like boiled meat on a heavily salted bun. My parents have RAVED about the quality of service and food at this place on multiple occasions so I finally decided to try it out. Our experience started off with walking in and having to wait 10 minutes for a table after making a reservation. Two different staff members had told us two different things and the communication was blatantly awful. After being seated we again waited 30 minutes just to put in our food and drinks and the drinks didn't come for another 10 minutes. At that point we were starving from the sun beating on us while sitting outside. We ordered an appetizer and that came nearly an hour after ordering. And about 5 minutes after that came our dinner. I had ran out of water almost immediately after getting it and my water was not filled up until I was almost done with my whole meal. The food itself was pretty disappointing. I got the island chicken quesadilla and while the flavor was good something about it was off. The tortilla did not go very well with the dish. This dish is also served with banana aioli on the side for dipping but I think for a more bbq based dish that is already a little sweet it adds too much sweetness, ranch would fare better in my opinion. The onion strips were amazing. I loved how crispy and variable the sizes were. My parents swear by the island chicken sandwich and they still love it. Overall decent place but the service is the reason this place is a 2. Being at a restaurant for 2 hours outside in the summer with little water and horrible service is just not how I want to spend a summer evening. read more

Bandana's has been one of our family's favorite stops for several years. The food has always been great, especially some of the specials. The atmosphere, decor, was dated and needed a tune up! But, we were loyal and it did not deter us from returning. This winter they closed for renovations and opened this past week. We had an opportunity to visit last evening. Congratulations to the owners on a great renovation. They kept the charm of the past and renovated the tables, floors, ceiling, restrooms, bar area. It looks amazing. Happy to say the food was as great as we remember. The ribeye is always perfectly cooked. The burger, loaded with cheese. Their fries. Amazing. Crispy and in my opinion the best in the area. More than casual. Greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. We chose to sit inside. It was too hot for us outside. Many choices on the menu. My wife had one of the Sunday Specials. Quite the Chimichanga with rice. She enjoyed the first couple of bites and proclaimed that we would be coming back. I had the Bar BQ Pork Loin sandwich. Nice roll, plenty of pork and a tasty sauce. Keeping the " Sammie" company was a generous pile of fries and nice portion of coleslaw. It was a good slaw. They have a full bar and a worthy list of Craft Beers. We all orders different items off the menu and everyone was very happy with their meal. We weren't certain how it would be handled, especially since it was right after the holiday weekend. This place was just full of surprises. At first glance, it's similar to any rural restaurant in the area: a home converted into a bar and grill with a big menu and local crowd. However, a few differences make this place worth a trip for non-locals as well. My mother in law brought us here for dinner tonight. They have a lot of standard items but they serve five different variations of potato skins and include trendier items relative to the usual small town restaurant offerings like Jamaican jerk chicken and cajun steak. I almost tried the wonton crusted shrimp with wasabi mashed potatoes off the specials menu, but played it safer with coconut shrimp and steak fries instead. Having the spicy plum sauce intended for the wonton crusted shrimp instead of chili pina colada sauce was not an issue. The shrimp was great, and I think they should consider adding spicy plum sauce as an option for their wings. I think the steak fries were baked instead of fried and overcooked in an effort to make them crispy. My husband had the ribeye with garlic butter sauce. I almost never order steak at restaurants because it's usually overpriced and nowhere near as good as we make at home. This place is a huge exception. His meal was under $20, the ribeye was the most tender cut of beef I've ever had, and I'd love to know how they make their garlic butter sauce. One son had his usual chicken tenders, but ate more than he usually does, and the other son had tacos which were more like soft tortilla wraps but he didn't mind. Adult drinks were surprisingly strong. They did not skimp on the Captain in my "coke." (Side note: what is it with WNY restaurants and Pepsi? Blargh. Not a biggie when spiked but I otherwise can't abide by Pepsi over Coke unless it's cherry. Nothing against Bandana's since it seems to be pandemic around here.) Four stars for this unassuming gem in rural NY. Driving past it, you would never think that this seeming biker bar would be a family friendly restaurant. Appearances are deceiving even walking in. The front is a cramped but well-stocked bar typically full of regulars and more than a few friendly bikers. The back opens up only slightly to a few high-stooled tables. If you have a chance to sit on the patio or enjoy the back tent area outside, do it. I visited Bandana's with a group so we were treated to the back tent and a buffet style dinner. The selection we were given was nothing special; salad, pasta, roast beef sandwiches, rolls, and buffalo wings. However, everything was very good with the buffalo wings as the crowning dish. They were succulent and spicy. Given the expansive menu (8 full pages!) and the knowledgable bartenders, there's something for everyone here at a reasonable price. This isn't fine dining and doesn't pretend to be. It is, however, a quaint and tasty stop along a country road that should not be missed.
