Jessie, the "Practice Manager" just hung up on me. We fill our prescriptions through Allivet. Every month, we get multiple emails from Allivet, telling me that they are not getting responses to their faxes. Last month, after the 9th attempt email, I called Banfield and they couldn't provide an answer as to why the vet wasn't processing the request. They finally did. This month, after the 3rd attempt email, I decided to call early and try to get the ball rolling. The first person I spoke to asked me to confirm the fax number and if correct, call back and ask for the practice manager. I did and the number was correct, so I called back and got put through to "Jessie". Jessie answered, looked me up in the system and explained that our script couldn't be filled until dog got updated bloodwork. Not thrilled about spending more money on bloodwork, I challenged the assertion, to which she replied that is was AZ state law. Ok, so be it. Still not thrilled, but it is what it is. I then asked why, instead of just continuing to reject prescription requests, they don't inform the customer, saving us time and frustration. At that point, Jessie simply hung up on me. This was her way of dealing with an unhappy customer. I wasn't yelling, swearing or being offensive. I'm sure it was clear that I wasn't happy about how things were going, but it was a completely calm and professional conversation. If an individual can't carry on a professional conversation with a frustrated customer, then this person is in the wrong position. We'll be finding a new location/provider for our dogs' care moving forward. read more

By far the best Banfield location in the valley! It's always very clean and organized, which is not the 'normal' for all veterinary hospitals, as usually the stench of animal urine is overwhelming when walking in - especially Banfield and corporate owned companies - but never once have I walked into this location to a foul smell, which is actually quite impressive when you think about it. The staff though is truly what makes them stand out! They always greet my pets by name with warm and welcoming smiles. They consistently provide the highest standards of quality medical care and ALWAYS take the time to ensure I have a full understanding of any/all diagnostic tests and treatments being recommended and performed and why. I have never felt rushed or dismissed by anyone working here, and I have never felt pressured or judged if the cost wasn't within my budget - they always have empathetic responses and other options to still make sure my pets leave in better condition then they arrived. It's so clear how much they genuinely care about each of their patients and clients as well. They truly deserve so much praise (and also probably a raise) for all they do, as I can only imagine how challenging, complex, and emotionally taxing, working in veterinary medicine probably is. But this team ALWAYS has such a warm and welcoming positive energy about them and I couldn't be more grateful to have found this Banfield location! Even the practice manager makes sure to pop in to say hi and check in on me and my fur babies whenever I'm there, even just for drop off routine appointments - I think her name is Amanda (I apologize if I'm incorrect with her name), but it's obvious that she cares about her staff members and clients, just as much as each of the patients. Normally I'm not a fan of corporate veterinary practices, but this location is special and deserves to be recognized for it! read more

Hi everyone - I used to work here. My honest truth is that this pet hospital is the only pet hospital I would trust my cats life with because they truly do care. When I brought my cat in for his dental cleaning Dr.Garino wasn't able to proceed because his blood sugar results were somewhat concerning, which shows that she knows safety is #1. Dr.Garino and Dr.Leifker both provide accurate, honest, caring and trustworthy veterinary services. The practice manager Amanda has been there since the beginning making sure that the hospital runs the way its supposed to. She literally could be a Vet if she wanted to but instead she is assisting with operations, training, helping DVMs/Nurses/Clients/etc. She does SO much and so do all the nurses and CSCs. In conclusion: Banfield Hospital 5198 is a great place to take your pet for any non-emergency professional pet care. read more

This location got really adamant about pulling teeth when a new vet came in about a year ago. Both my dogs all of the sudden needed multiple teeth pulled. We did some of them and then decided to go to another vet. They said they couldn't see any major concern. I'd steer toward a good small local vet instead of a big company focused on profit only. read more

Just called and said that I think my dog may have a UTI when can I get in and see a vet. He (Josh) asked if I was a member of their insurance program. I said yes. He told me it would be at least a week and a half to get in to see a vet. MY DOG HAS A PROBLEM NOW. I have been a part of their insurance program for many years with both dogs and my cat. If you insist on going read the fine print they will never let you out of their insurance plans without violating you financially. Shame on Banfield corporate. This is absurd! I love been on 3 plans for awhile and now they just charged my card over $400! And of course all of the CS people are off on the weekend so I have to wait to get my money back? My dog became very sick at PetSmart's Doggie Day Camp and was rushed to the pet hospital. I was told he had a seizure when he arrived and medication was given to him. None of that is noted in his records. I asked the doctor's assistant to fax my dog's records to his regular veterinarian so I could call him and let him know what happened. He was seen at 12 noon and his vet had not received them by 4:30 pm. Luckily I insisted on a copy so was able to give the a copy of mine. Questionable place to trust your animal. read more

People in this profession should do so because they CARE about animals. We all know the money isn't great, so that shouldn't be what drives you to do what you do. The lady who answered the phone was not only extremely rude, but wouldn't even answer a simple question without having me come down there. I shouldn't have to come down and PAY you, to ask a question that you should most definitely be able to answer without even seeing my dog. Get a new job cause you suck at this one. read more

The Banfield Wellness Plan is designed to milk vulnerable pet parents out of money. Additionally, the veterinarians and staff at every location, including this one, are inexperienced and inept. In the past, I have had lab techs drop samples on the floor and then test them, overheard a tech scream the f-word to a fearful animal, had the fpl test that I paid for, completely overlooked, had a biopsy done on the wrong leg of one of my pets, had my pet misdiagnosed with a heart murmur, been told my pet could wait on a treatment, only to have him die in my arms, within hours. I could go on. Up until 2020, you could take your pet in for a dental cleaning and if the pre-procedural lab report revealed anything that the vet did not like, your pet would not get the procedure and that would be that, as the saying goes. Now, you must pay out-of-pocket for those results (on top of the usual monthly fee for the Wellness Plan). I don't know about you, but I can see all kinds of problems with this. If the sample is mishandled, the vet is not extremely experienced or if she/he is just in a bad mood or does not like you or your pet, you can be slapped with upwards of $200 in extra costs, AFTER-THE-FACT. This is only the latest of the indignities that happened to me and my poor kitty: I took my cat in to Dr. Garino, because he had been vomiting and was told that he had one elevated liver function. He received Rx for multiple medications (which made him vomit much more). Additionally, the same lab tests done at the Phoenix SPCA weeks before did not show this so-called-problem. As I thought about it, I realized that my cat had (very) recently started eating a higher fat content food, so I changed him back to low-fat. The vomiting suddenly stopped. He is doing fantastic. Has not vomited at all since, (four months). I recently called to schedule his dental cleaning and was told that he may not get a dental cleaning if anything on the pre-procedural lab work isn't perfect. Additionally, if I get the lab work and the vet does not want to do the cleaning, then I will need to pay for the lab work. There is no way to know if I will be paying or not before he has the test. In my opinion, that is a deliberate ROADBLOCK and BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE! I don't know about you, but I am not made of money. I put my pets on this plan to SAVE money. But if I can't use the plan, I am spending more, not less. BUYER BEWARE. BANFIELD IS TOXIC. And yes, I was stupid to go there and my pets have suffered greatly because of it. I am a fool. read more

Very very poor customer service. This vet appears very disorganized and seems to not care at all about their clients or the pets they are supposed to serve. They seemed close by and okay enough on yelp, which was why I picked them. I'm new in town. Now I realize the other nearby vets have significantly better reviews, maybe Banfield just has a paid ad that made them come up first. In addition to the very bad customer service, I think they have unprofessional staff who were willing to give information to me about my pet's condition prior to seeing him. When I called another place, they appeared to need to see my pet in person to give me any information beyond- this isn't an emergency. In a world which seems to have increasingly poor "professionals", it is extremely stressful as a pet owner to be looking for expert care when my pet is sick. What is the real right thing to do right now??? This is my first cat and he is very old and has kidney problems. He is a very special cat and I want to take the best care of him possible so he can be healthy for a long time. I don't really know anything about being a vet, but now I'm going somewhere else. The way the other staff redirected my questions to, let's have him come in, rather than give me advice without seeing him. I think that must be the proper protocol for a vet, right? And even before seeing that, I was determined not to go back to Banfield after their very offensive customer service. read more

This place should not be open or have anything to do with the public. Worst customer service ever. My sister has a shihtzu that tore its ACL. She is a teacher and needed someone to take her dog in for a follow up appointment due to parent-teacher conferences. She calls ahead days before to let them know her nieces will be bringing the dog in for the checkup. The dog is brought in on-time. They won't allow it because they are not authorized. I call in and they will only allow it if my sister calls in. I get ahold of her and she calls in to authorize. Now they won't do it because my daughter is not 18. My wife runs down there. Nope. We were in Mesa, traveling from TN, when our Border Collie, Bruce, became very ill. Vomiting and bloody diarrhea. They got us in quickly and every staff member was absolutely professional and kind! I have taken my cat Platinum here several times. It is easy to find. The waiting room and exams rooms are clean and comfortable. It is easy to get appointments when needed. The staff members are very helpful and extremely friendly. They took excellent care of Platinum when she was there to get spayed. They keep good records of all the different treatments Platinum has had. They have an app for mobile phones that allows you to get information about your pet very quickly. They offer health plans that cover regular checkups and emergency care. They listen to any concerns I had about Platinum's health and were able to answer all my questions. I highly recommend Banfield Pet Hospital to anyone needing professional health care for their pets. You won't be disappointed. read more

Love the staff here! I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to find that it was its own freestanding clinic and not inside a petsmart (feels somewhat chaotic having to take the pup through the store at other Banfield locations). The staff was warm, friendly and very knowledgeable and professional. I almost quit Banfield altogether after a bad previous experience at a different location but I'm now glad I didn't!
