This was honestly one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. The food was nowhere close to authentic Indian taste and felt completely off. We ordered a Thai tofu salad, spring rolls, chana masala, rice, and aloo paratha. The "salad" was basically just sliced onion, tomato, spinach, a few grated carrots, and literally one piece of tofu--no seasoning at all, not even proper salt or pepper. Completely bland. The chana masala was even worse. It had no real masala flavor--just a creamy, slightly sweet gravy with minimal salt. It didn't resemble chana masala in taste or texture. The aloo paratha was overpriced at $8 and came in small pieces with barely any stuffing inside. To make it worse, the chana masala alone was $23 and didn't even come with rice or any accompaniment, which is unreasonable. Overall, we paid a lot for extremely tasteless food. Definitely not returning and would not recommend this place if you're expecting authentic or even decent Indian flavors. read more

Left Old San Juan on a Sunday and was struggling to find Indian food since I arrived back here in PR, so Yelp directed me here. Was surprised to see a mixed Thai and Indian restaurant - not really the most related set of cuisines but decided to go try it out. Ordered samosas and a Tom Kha Kai as those are my staples in any Indian and Thai restaurants respectively. Was surprised to see the samosas sliced in half - guessing it's more so for presentation but that was a first. They were pretty flavorful, but I expect a kick in my Indian food and this was not present. I was also told their green sauce (mint chutney) would have a kick and it was notably absent. The tamarind sauce was good but it was missing something that I still can't really identify. The Tom Kha Kai was not on the spicy side at all, and the sauce they gave me to tack on to it was mild - however it was one of the three best Tom Kha I have ever tried, which is saying a lot. I had Paneer Makhani for my main course and two things I noticed - I expected the color to be more towards red, and this was not. The second was the rice - yellow basmati, as if it was cooked with saffron. I may be a bit of a snob but I like my basmati to be white when I eat Indian food as I don't want anything else influencing the flavor. The curry was good, but it didn't have that velvety texture usually seen in Makhani dishes - probably due to a reduced tomato content. And it was definitely missing some heat. Service was great and consistent. There were two servers at all times checking in and refilling water, and they were overall very courteous. Ambiance is a tossup - paper handkerchiefs with the cutlery is a no-no for Indian food since it's saucy and can spill easy. You couldn't even cover your lap with what was offered. The music was one small thing looped over and over, so it was repetitive. And it was expensive. $28.00 for the Paneer Makhani was overkill. I don't even pay that much for it in the finest Indian restaurants in Miami! 3/5. Good food but misses the mark for the price being paid. Well, with a name like this, the expectations were high, but this was an absolute disappointment. The food would be unfit for consumption in Bombay and Bangkok. Besides bad food, the service was terrible. Took a little less than an hour for the food to show up, without any update or explanation. And then the food was bad. It seems like they use a lot of frozen food, vegetables and meat. I would suggest to read the bill carefully as well. They tend to assume their service was the best and add 18% optional tip to help closing the bill faster. With such bad food and service, they should be tipping their customers. read more

I first started coming here probably in the late 90s. Back then they were located in Isla Verde, in the spot now occupied by Ferrari Gourmet. They only served Thai food and went by the name Royal Siam. Later they moved to Condado, in the spot now occupied by Covina Abierta. That is when they added Indian food and changed the name to Bangkok & Bombay. I was big fan, especially for the Thai food. I would amaze my brothers and friends by asking my that my food be level 2.5-3 spicy (3 being the spiciest). The waitress would always ask if I was sure. Bring it on, I would say, and I would eat it all, drenched in sweat (i can't handle that heat anymore haha). Then I moved to LA for 9 years. When I came back I learned they had moved once again to their current location in Santurce. I don't know if having such delicious Thai food in LA spoiled me, or if the restaurant underwent changes in management, kitchen, maybe they started cutting corners with ingredients, or something else. Or maybe all. But the quality has definitely fallen. I've been here twice since they've been at this location and have been disappointed both time from both menus. It didn't helped that service was also very slow. I would add that the parking situation is inconvenient. Only street parking and the area is sort of sketchy. I'm giving them 3 stars mainly for the memories (if yelp existed back then I would've rated them a 5). But now they are about a 2, maybe 2.5. read more

We'd been here before a few times and always left disappointed. We decided to give it another try after eating here for a few years. It was by far the best experience. Service was better and the food was very good. I had the gang masaman. The flavor was very good although the sauce was very thick. It could have been watered down a little. My husband's chicken curry was excellent and the Mai Thai was refreshing. The problem was that it was very hot inside. I don't know if the air conditioner was turned off or not working but it was hot. read more

The indian food here is bit pricey. Alert- They will charge you 18% gratuity by default even for 1-2 people. Food- The lentil soup was really good. Creamy and delicious. The malai kofta is not that good. It has less gravy and bigger size koftas. The tandoori roti is not good either. The tomato sauce on the side with roti is actually better than the malai kofta gravy. We've been back and service was good and food was delicious, maybe even better on our second visit. We started with Satay, Thai Ice Tea, and Mojito. All were good. For a main course, we ordered Pla Jearn and Pla Choo Chee, both with Red Snapper, from the Thai menu and Murgh Vindaloo and Naan from the Indian menu. Each dish came with rice. The rice was fluffy and loose. The Vindaloo and Naan were delicious. The Pla Jearn and Pla Choo Chee were flakey and also delicious. The amount of food and the pricing was about right. Maybe a bit on the high end with price. But the service, food, and experience were very good. I feel I need to upgrade this review with 4 stars. Worst Indian food I have ever tasted! So, without looking at the reviews inside we wnt by the stars. So we wondered how did Indians voted good stars for this horrible place and then figured out it must be for thai food or Americans who haven't tasted real Indian food must have given good stars. We ordered malai kofta- omg it was so tangy and sour and could not even take the gravy. So we did eat the kofta with naan leaving the gravy. They did give some tikka masala along with naan. Thought it tasted bland, it was better than the malai in the malai kofta. The spring rolls were decent and thai iced tea was nice. The one star is for those two item. I think they just use the thai sauces for Indian item. Next coming to paapadam, it was microwaved for heaven sake and it was not made well. They charged 3$ for half burnt papad. I thought it will be deep fried paapad, but no! On top of the agony, for a party of 2, they added 15$ gratuity of 7$ which took our bill over 50$ for one malai kofta, paapad, ice tea and naan. It took them over an hour to get first food item, that too we had to ask them few times. We ordered Indian food - 1. Lentils (makhani and soup) - both were extremely bland and texture of the soup was also disgusting 2. Matar paneer - again, bland and tasteless. It felt like they just heated up the boxed food 3. Malai kofta: extremely fried and not that tasty either 4. Aaloo paratha - there were absolutely no potatoes in it On top of that they added 20% gratuity for a party of 3. there is no private parking around here, it is street parking only, we had not much of a hard time to find parking at the time we came, but I can see that I could be a bit challenging to find parking around the area of this restaurant. we came in a little later in the evening and they were in the process of starting to close so we were about the last table they were taking in. the place was pretty empty with plenty of reason and I will tell why. because we came so close to the closing time the waitress was not super happy to get one more table towards the end of the night. The ambiance here is very well planed and there is plenty of character and plenty of art to look at, that I must give to them, they made the place look fancy and romantic. - ONION AND SPINACH PAKORA - it is a very weird fried onion and spinach plate with a couple of sauces, the onions themselves were not very impressive, the spinach did give a bit of elevation to the appetizer and the sauces were definitely fun to play with to add flavor, I would though choose a larger kind of onion for this dish as out onion kept breaking inside the sauce because it was too skinny. - NAAN - I was definitely not impressed with it. I wish there was more flavor to it, I had better in other places. - LAMB CHOP- it did taste pretty nice, the sauce was very good, the lamb was very nice and moist, the serving was disappointing for the price however. - CHICKEN CURRY- here is where it all went south for us on the service, we wanted to share a plate of this curry btw 2 ppl, the waitress was so eager to get us out the door she actually served us each one plate. the mistake with the curry was pretty irritating as this place is very over priced and we were so frustrated with the waitress that we didn't even wanna bother her any longer and give the meal back, so we swallowed our pride and tried to eat all the food as it was. the place is nice and the ambiance is pretty cool as I said, but it is smoke and mirrors as far as the experience goes in my opinion, the staff is not very friendly not pleasant and they cannot pretend to be happy to see you there, the food was ok but the price was not specially for the serving sizes of some of the dishes. The food was good but the attitude of the staff was nassssssssty. The lady who served was immidiately bothered by our presence and we had to ask her several to take our orders. I should note that we were one out of only two small parties in the entire restaurant. You'd think that with just a few people present they would provide better customer service. We were even going to order drinks after our dessert but decided not to because we could barely tolerate the service. I do not recommend this restaurant at all. Well, they get one star for effort and cooking us some food and one star for being pleasant and open after curfew. They only had green curry or red curry on the menu, so I called and asked if they could make yellow curry and they said "yes." The gentleman who answered was very nice and helpful, because we had to place our order online and then pick it up. He brought our food to the van when we arrived. Now the food itself was a different story. It's challenging, because living in Hawaii where Thai food is abundant and curry is about $9, we were charged $19 per curry and it was well... edible. That's how best I could describe it. What's funnier, is that when I opened the container, the vegetables were so big that I had to cut everything before I could even eat! I remembered thinking, "Do giants usually order the curry that's why the vegetables aren't cut to normal human proportions?" Lol! Even the Thai place we frequented in Myrtle Beach, SC was only $11 and it was on the beach and so amazing that I could eat it everyday. I did not read the reviews until afterwards, so you can count me as a customer who's ate the Thai food and there's not much to rave about. They did give us an extra rice with our spring rolls. The peanut sauce that came with it was good, but the spring rolls were "off." They had put mint leaves in the rolls, which made them taste more like toothpaste rolls! Even our children wouldn't eat them after pulling out the leaves, because the smell and taste was still overpowering. Honestly, our order last night was slightly out of desperation, because we weren't able to get everything we needed at the grocery before curfew hit. I just don't understand the business - the menu items are quite pricey and the place is full, so why can't they hire another server? The best part of our dinner was the free sauce that comes with the naan - the naan was the second best, at least the pieces that were cooked because half of them weren't really. Let me start this review by saying I have been going to Bangkok Bombay for almost 25years. At first when they were in Condado, and then continued when they moved to Santurce.. It has been my favorite restaurant for most of the time. I went there tonight with some friends who were visiting the island. We made reservations for 7 PM p.m., and arrived 10 minutes early. The restaurant was not even half full when we arrived. We placed our orders, and the appetizers arrived within a reasonable time. Then nothing happened for one and a half hours. No bread, no excuses, no acknowledgement at all. We kept inquiring about what the delay was and kept being told that the food is on the way. At one point we asked if they could at least comp us a round of drinks for inconvenience and they said sure and brought us 4 drinks. After almost 2 hours of waiting, our food arrived. Two of the dishes were stone cold, and the other 2 were dried out as if they had sat under a heat lamp for over an hour. This supposedly extra spicy chicken tiki dishes were bland at best. We finished our meal and asked for the check. We were charged for the drinks that were supposed to be comped, we were charged for a serving of bread that we hadn't received, and a 20% tip had been added to the bill. We questioned the waitress about why the drinks hadn't been comped, and she said that she couldn't take it off the bill. I hate to say this, but I will never return to this restaurant again. I have several properties that I rent out through Airbnb and I have always recommended this restaurant to my tenants, and that will never happen again. I don't know what happened to this restaurant, But this is not the same restaurant that I have gone to, and enjoyed for the past 25 years. I don't know if it's new management, or maybe new owners, but if you're looking for a good dining experience, stay away from this restaurant. As we were leaving we saw one other table get up to leave, complaining that they have been waiting for over an hour and a half for their food, and another table who is arguing with their server as to why their dinner was taking so long. It saddens me to think that what had been my favorite restaurant for so many years, now is one that I would never recommend, nor go to again. There are many excellent new restaurants popping up all over Condado, on Calle Louisa, calle Cerra, and throughout Santurce in general. Don't waste your money and time on this one. read more

I didn't finish my plate. 3/5 - Kulcha: You can order garlic or onion. I had the garlic and my friend ordered the onion. Both were good but I liked the garlic better. Delicious when dipped in sauce. 3/5 - Paneer Makhani: I tried a couple bites off my friend's plate. I liked the sauce better than the tikka masala. It was sweet and buttery. The cheese tasted like hard tofu, it had an unpleasant spongy texture. It was rather tasteless. 2/5 Leechi martini - delicious :) 5/5 Service: Both the waiter and the server were not friendly. We felt like we were bothering the waitress when we asked her a question. We added tip to the bill and the server replied with "bad service?" as if we didn't tip enough. I thought he was really unprofessional. 1/5 Final Thoughts: The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The service was horrible. The prices were ridiculous. We moved to Puerto Rico about two years ago and missing thai & Indian food. We visited around lunch time (2pm) and had a very nice lady waitress. She spoke English and was very helpful. The menu has a variety of thai & Indian dishes for every pallet. We ordered the 2 Chicken Tikka, chicken pad Thai, 2 orders of naan & for dessert, the doughnuts in cardamom. The food was ready within 10-12 minutes of ordering and was piping hot! The chicken tikka came with a spicy sauce and yellow basmati rice. Full of flavor and was tender and juicy. The chicken pad Thai was good. Not the best I've had but for an island, it was good. The naan was delicious! Possibly my favorite part. The dessert was interesting. The doughnuts are submerged in a hot cardamom sauce. It looks like it would be good but it's a mist try. The prices are reasonable and about the same as in the states. If you are in the area before sundown you should try this place. There is a parking lot just up the street on the left you can park. If it's dark, wait until sunlight as the area may not be safe for tourists. read more

We ordered Matar paneer which was enough for 2 - it was mild in spice as we like it that way, but they did mention that it can be spiced up if needed. The Dal Makhni which actually comes as an accompaniment ($5) is actually decently sized for its price and for us was stellar!! We loved it. The service is good and the staff is decent/friendly.
