I was completely ignored by the front counter employee tonight. When I tried to ask a question about paying with cash, he abruptly shouted out a number (126) and disregarded the fact that I was standing in line. At first, I thought I might be overreacting, so I chose to leave rather than cause an issue. However, when I returned, I was still overlooked--even after I clearly said "hi" out loud. The lack of acknowledgment, basic courtesy, and attentiveness made me feel dismissed, racially profiled and unwelcome. No restaurant is ever that busy. Customers should be greeted and assisted in a respectful and orderly manner, and this experience fell well below that standard. read more

Food: The food here is delicious! I would recommend their pad see ew and green or red curry. Every dish comes with a choice of chicken, beef, pork, shrimp or tofu. Prices depending on the protein you select. The pork larb salad was nothing special; other places have better larb than this place so I would skip ordering this here. Thai iced tea is also good here. Service: Staff are friendly and welcoming. Ambiance: This place is located in the Industry City food hall. Leave it to Brooklyn to totally nail it on the Thai food! While visiting NYC we trekked out to Brooklyn to pick up some household things, and this small eatery was nearby. It is located in a building that houses many open air restaurants. We had a hard time deciding which to choose.... Cool little Thai spot in Industry City. If you're looking for a quick, fresh bite, I'd definitely recommend Bangkok Bar. The seating here is limited but I love that you can see your food being made if you sit by their bar area. I was looking for a quick snack/lighter lunch and opted to try their Fried Shrimp Rolls. They were ready in a flash and were served piping hot, with a sweet plum sauce on the side. The perfect option if you're looking for something quick and not overly filling. While the wintery weather wouldn't allow for it, I did spy a cute outdoor seating area which is a nice option for the warmer months. Got takeout and tried a few new dishes. Garlic chicken with white rice and Tom Kha (Coconut Soup) which is Coconut milk, galangal, lemongrass, mushroom, onion, and cilantro. Love the fresh garlic with a slight sweetness to it, as well as the thin carrot slices. Ordered the Gai Yang "Grilled Chicken" (which is the lemongrass marinated chicken with lettuce chunks over jasmine rice & chili tamarind sauce on the side. Costs $17+ something w/ the tax altogether; reasonable for Industry City. Menus with descriptions of the different dishes on clipboards are placed on the cashier counter. Love all the colorful Thai movie posters as decorations plastered on the wall as I look up to glance at them while digging into my meal. Didn't get to take pics of the movie posters since I'm too busy finishing up my meal before they're closed for the day at 7pm. They close a little too early in my opinion but it's been like that since pandemic times. Staff who work there are friendly, at least the one taking my order at the cashier is. Service is fast also by the way. They accept cash and credit/debit card as payment. Wished they've mentioned/included that the lemongrass chicken is in the form of drumsticks in the menu and not boneless unlike how other restaurants prepare it because the meat is attached to the bone. Can get messy if you don't like to use your hands to eat outside. I like that they don't skimp you on the meat and does actually give lots of meat in the rice platter box to accommodate the hefty price. Meat is tender and tasty. Flavor is a bit salty but it's mostly on the skin, so it should be alright if you don't eat it. It's hard to eat the chicken without using your hands so in the end I did have to use my hands. Luckily, there's a restroom right around the corner to wash my hands. Pretty clean for the most part. Since Industry City is a bit on the farther side of Brooklyn and I don't usually trek down there unless there's something going on like an event, I would still probably visit this Thai eatery the next time I come to this neighborhood. Bangkok Bar is of my favorite finds!! Thank you for introducing me to Khua Kling- I cannot get enough of this dish and now I'm always on the hunt whenever we go anywhere that specializes in Southern Thai cuisine. We've also tried the Khuy Teaw Kua, which I highly recommend if you like broad noodles. They do a great job of making everything very flavorful without it being too salty. And I love that their thai iced tea has an intense flavor and isn't overly sweet. The staff are very friendly and I always make it a point to pick up something from Bangkok Bar whenever we eat at Industry City. If you haven't been to Industry City (look it up!), where Bangkok Bar is located, highly recommend you budget an afternoon to grab a bite here at the food court and then walk around to see the various installations, grab some dessert, and play some petanque at Carreau Club. This recent time we got chicken pad Thai, green curry and Thai iced tea. The Thai iced tea was good. Two of us got the chicken pad Thai. It was just meh. Very meh. But my standard for comparison is the shrimp pad Thai at Soothr, which is amazing. One of us got the green curry and she also didn't seem too impressed. The portion size seemed huge though! Went to this place on a whim walking around Industry City. Very small restaurant that operates more like a "to-go" spot rather than a proper sit-down (despite the seating). Not many stools available on a Saturday afternoon, though things open up quickly as people don't spend a lot of time inside. Order up front first before sitting down. Menu has a handy spice level guide (chili peppers) to determine what to get. Decided on the Crying Tiger ($18), which only had one spicy pepper next to its name. They do not lie here about there, even if it's "dry" heat. The rub on the steak is astonishingly hot, but not overwhelming. Steak is cooked well and plentiful, which is always a plus. Had to get through a few waters and a side of rice ($3) to finish the meal. No frills place that's efficient and tasty. Would recommend if looking for a satisfyingly spicy meal. read more

I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon since I live in the neighborhood. I was debating between the Indian place and this place but decided to go with Thai. I was torn between Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodle) and Khao Soi (egg noodles in coconut curry soup) but decided to go with the Khao Soi since it was a cold day. After taking an hour deciding (food decisions are the hardest decisions in life haha), I ordered the Khao Soi with chicken. The curry broth was flavorful and it had all the components of a typical Khao Soi (coconut curry, mustard greens, shrimp paste, lime). I kind of wish the chicken was chicken leg instead of breast and the crispy noodles were fresher (tasted a bit stale). It was a bit pricey (almost $20) but it was still pretty good and and they do give you a lot of meat. read more

Bangkok Bar is the only Thai restaurants around so I was excited to try out the Khao Soi from here. I ordered takeout and they were friendly and quick for my order. The Khao Soi was packed well and I was able to fix up my meal at home and still have it presentable. The Khao Soi includes two chicken drumsticks, pickled vegetables, red onions, and the fried egg noodles. It looks amazing and comes with all of the fixings as expected. I was very impressed that the dish came with two drumsticks. Despite all the included fixings, I was slightly dismayed with the flavor of the dish. It tasted slightly bland and was not as aromatic as I like. Overall, I was left yearning for more of that curry flavor from the broth. Hopefully just a fluke but I'd be cautious ordering the Khao Soi from here again. read more

One of my favorite days this summer was spent at Industry City, where I got to experience Bangkok Bar first hand. So many establishments within were closed due to the pandemic, yet they remained open operating purely on take out and delivery. I have to admit I was extremely impressed with their operation and the food. With just a tiny stall, they managed to capture the sights and smells of something reminiscent back in the motherland. They did such a good job with the space and I appreciate the colorful vibe via the logos of well known Thai brands. They've done away with the counter side seating for now, however there is still plenty of seating outdoors. My takeout cashew shrimp was super tasty and had a superb amount of heat despite being mild. At $17, it's not the best value by any stretch, but the flavors are there and I imagine the same for their other dishes. I washed it all down with a Thai iced tea, which was gulped away in just a few swigs. I appreciated the friendly service and am genuinely curious about the rest of the menu. Everything my friends were eating looked lovely and given how busy they were during the pandemic gives me good hope that they'll be able to weather the storm down the road. read more

Passing through this part of Industry City you can't avoid the aromatic smoky smells coming from the kitchen at Bangkok Bar. For me it made the difficult choice of picking from a dizzying array of food options at this complex that much easier. That and the fact that attached to Bangkok Bar is this beautiful covered yurt to dine in. I wanted to eat inside this colorful, dimly lit space that was kind of a combination of eating outside and inside anyway but the torrential downpour ushered us into it by necessity. Inside the yurt we could stay completely dry and enjoy our meal soothed by the sounds of the pitter patter of the rain. People with porches might take this experience for granted, but for my porchless self, this felt special. The delicious smell of the food didn't really match the flavor, which I found somewhat lacking in my dish. The dry jungle curry with shrimp came recommended by the person at the counter and sounded phenomenal to me, especially since I love spicy food. The shrimp tasted fresh and there were generous amounts of it in this dish but really not much in the way of flavor or spice, and not enough flavor to eat with the large portion of white rice it came with. It had me wishing I ordered something else because something tells me this kitchen makes some delicious food. The dry jungle curry might just be one of the blander options on the menu. Despite this I enjoyed my dish enough for the $13 I paid for it, which is about as much as I'd normally spend for lunch elsewhere. Industry city is already a wonderful place to spend a day and Bangkok Bar's yurt is just the cherry on top. read more

One of those experiences where I think we just ordered the wrong things... I'd come back and give it another shot but wouldn't order the Pad Thai or Khua Kling again. Pad Thai w/ chicken ($16) tasted too sour and the texture was a bit overly wet. Wish we had went with the Pad See Ew or Drunken Noodles instead - noted for next time! The Khua Kling w/ ground pork + fried egg on top ($20) was spicy AND overly salted. People were not kidding about spice levels - it's serious here! I wouldn't have minded if it wasn't for the saltiness as well. Very heavy in flavor. Maybe a curry instead or a rice/signature dish without any of the little red peppers next to its name. The heat with the spice made it hard to start eating, but once it cooled down, it was more tolerable. FYI, if you get the beef noodle bowl, be open to eating anything of the cow. It had liver, tongue, and a meatball made of who knows what parts. Don't get me wrong though, delicious. Just make sure you know what you order. There was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. The Larb Moo was flavorful and a little spicy, and the Pad Thai with Chicken was also very flavorful and tasty. They cook everything in front of you but everything is from the same wok, so if you have allergies there will be cross contamination. Food was hot and delicious. This small shop in Industry City offers some of the most authentic and delicious Thai food I've ever had. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, and was amazed at how flavorful it was.
