As one of the Top 100 restaurants of NYC, Laghman Express has a lot of hype to live up to -- which it does, successfully! The items that have really stood out to me are: -Dry fried noodles -- the flavour of this is amazing. It tastes like a zestier cousin of your typical Cantonese fried noodle dishes. The meat, veggies, and oil all come together to hug the hand-pulled noodles in an addictive way. -Fried Eggplant with Sweet Tomatoes -- I don't know how they do it, but the eggplant stays crispy, even if it's in a takeaway order. This dish is by far their stand-out dish. Everything tastes fresh and light. -The Moroccan Tea -- really special tea that has a ton of fruits infused in it that give it a natural sweetness that you don't feel guilty about. The items that were meh are: -The chicken wontons -- just meh. The meat was a little dry. The "spicy sauce" on top didn't really add much. -Cumin Lamb -- the meat was a bit dryer than expected, and I wanted more of a cumin punch. I've now gotten takeout from here a bunch of times, and had in-house dining once. All experiences have been positive, with a few reservations/notes: - They have a cash and a credit card option for payment, but they don't know how to do math. Every time I've paid with cash, they either take all of it, or they run around the store like a chicken with its head cut off, looking for it. The last instance, they went into the donation bucket to retrieve dollar bills...maybe as a positive, they always round up when giving you change. Very strange. -The Moroccan tea is REALLY expensive; each cup was $15 which is the price of a cocktail. I guess it's worth it for the fresh ingredients, but I saw other tables that had whole pots and it seemed like we were tricked with paying the price of two mini ones. I've been to the original Laghman Express location, so I was surprised to see another one open around here. This spot is definitely bigger than the original spot and very quaint, but there was still a line to dine in, which really shows how popular it is. We ordered a bunch of their popular dishes: lamb with cumin, fried wontons, spicy chicken, and the crispy eggplants with sweet tomato. We also got the Moroccan tea. The standout dish was definitely the crispy eggplants with sweet tomato. The mix of sweet and savory, along with all the different textures, made it something you just keep going back for. The tea was really good too, but it is definitely on the sweeter side. The service felt a bit chaotic and slow because of how busy they were, but they still made sure to fill our water. I am not sure if they refill the tea, because I saw them walking around with pitchers of hot water, but we never got ours topped up. It would have been nice if they had asked. Overall, I would still come back. I am definitely going to be thinking about those crispy eggplants. read more

I've been hearing about this place a lot recently and they opened up a new location in Bensonhurst. It's listed one of top 100 best NYC restaurants so I was curious to try. It's Uyghur cuisine, which feels like a blend of halal and Chinese food. The interior of the place has a nice signature green and I loved the seating area in the back with its fake greenery. Most of the dishes said it had spices, so I assumed they were all spicy but the waitress said the dishes aren't spicy. Our waitress didn't seem too friendly even though the other ones in the front looked more welcoming. The lamb leg soup was good. I also ordered an eel sushi, which I thought would come as a roll but it was just one piece, which I thought was pricey for one piece. It was delicious though. The chicken shawarma was different from what I imagined. It was more of a crispy chicken than shawarma from a Mediterranean restaurant. It came with white rice and side bowl of salad. The salad was fresh and refreshing with tomatoes and cucumbers. We ordered two other noodles dishes, which I thought was only okay. The food is good but not something I would crave and come out of my way to try again. read more

What an amazing restaurant with great food from Central Asia! Everyone is super friendly and our waitress Alina was awesome. It was our first time, so she gave us plenty of suggestions: We got: -Crispy eggplant salad: this might've been our favorite dish of the night. How did they get the eggplant so crispy??? -crispy beef wontons: while these were good, i think boiled would've tasted better -boiled manti: YUM. These were so juicy. Filled with lamb and onion. You have to get these -Guyurou Laghman: of course we had to try the famous hand-pulled noodles! They were delicious and the beef / sauce were really good too. Super tender. I think next time I would try the dry noodle dish -cumin lamb: the portion is huge. This was the only dish we said we'd skip for next time, not enough seasoning for us. -beshmarmak: another dish with boiled meat, noodles, onion potatoes: this was the Star! The meat was SO tender and the noodles with chili oil were awesome. Don't skip out on the Moroccan tea either - we had enough refills for the 4 of us and the flavors were perfect. Food: The food was delicious here! This restaurant serves Uyghur cuisine. We tried the stir fried noodles with lamb and beef as well as the manty (dumplings with meat). Both dishes were very fresh and tasty especially the noodle dish. I would recommend the noodle dish and would go back to try the other noodle dishes. The dumplings had a thicker skin which I'm not used to, but they're also worth a try. Service: Staff were very friendly and welcoming. They were also attentive and kept refilling our water. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size and has seating for both small and large groups. The place is kept clean, and seating is spacious and comfortable. Those familiar with the other location will be pleased with this one. Menu is about the same, maybe a couple more items? Servers are all super nice. Definitely very clean and bright inside. The dry noodles are great but I actually prefer the noodles in the broth (I think there are two varieties - both excellent). And the cucumber salad is terrific as a starter. Only issue is that parking around the area is... pretty terrible. Eventually you'll find something but we looped around constantly. Typical for the area. read more

I recently went here with a friend who was visiting town. We ordered fried dough, samsas, a fresh salad, the dry hand pulled noodles, and manty. They were all delicious, though I will say the noodles weren't what I expected. Out of all the dishes, I'd say those were my least favorite. They weren't necessarily bad, but I expected a bit more flavor, though that could just be my misunderstanding of what the dish is supposed to be. The samsas and fried dough were my favorites. And I'd love to come again to try other dishes that caught my eye like the ones that included lamb. Overall, this restaurant is a good place to try out. The service was great and you received dishes very quickly. It was pretty empty on a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant itself was very clean and visually pleasing to look at. So yummy!! I still dream about the dry fried noodles and the Central Asia mantis!! I've already gone back twice. The service is friendly and quick. The honey cake is also so good. The restaurant itself has a bunch of seating. Always go during lunch on weekdays and it's bustling with customers so I imagine it gets even busier around dinner. Unfortunately, they didn't have the dumplings with chives. So I ended up getting just the steamed meat . Not as good, Those fried meat & chive dumplings were amazing, and really the whole reason. I was returning. I forgot about dessert. I'm sorry I did because again, even now thinking of that peach bomb, it's was so good. But there was a fried fish stir fry which everyone really liked and the Spicy chicken was well received as well. But the lamb was not great and a little tough.
