    Pad Thai

Yummy chicken pad Thai! And the people working here were super nice :) I also got a Thai iced tea, which also had a great taste. It looks like they are only doing to go orders/delivery right now. But still- My go to pad Thai place for sure!

I cannot recommend. Pictures posted. ordered delivery. The one star is for the spring rolls which were decent. The Pad see Eiw (beef) and Pad Thai (chicken) were not good and the pad thai had a strange color. Those get zero stars. Beef did not taste like beef and the noodles didnt taste right either. I would instead order from Thai Square in Downtown des plaines. I think this used to be another restaurant as when I phoned they had all my info, but I had never ordered from them before. Waste of my hard-earned money!

it was only the pad thai, but boba was from a different place

The best restaurant in Des Plaines, and at very affordable prices! I've been coming here for years and cannot recommend them highly enough!

The food is simply amazing! The quality and flavors are at the best I've ever experienced. The prices are also incredibly reasonable, making it a great value for money. It reminded me of the delicious Thai food I had when I visited Thailand in my younger days. The service was good, although I did feel a bit rushed since there was only one waitress. However, the food was worth the wait, so it wasn't a major issue. The ambiance was great. The decor was warm and welcoming, and it reminded me of the restaurants I used to love back in the day. It was a refreshing change from the modern, sterile restaurants that are so common these days. Overall, I highly recommend this hidden gem. It's a must-try for anyone who loves Thai food.

We had to elevate our voices loudly in order to have a conversation I am not certain if Pen Thai even serves alcohol but there is signage in the restrooms that the Mount Prospect police will come and pick you up if you appear to be not sober (weird) The food was only 3-stars and one of our items was incorrect and came with peanut the first time

I would go back but try more dishes. -chicken satay 5 - chicken was very tender and well seasoned. -fish cakes 3 - they were okay, nothing to wow you. I think the curry paste could be stronger. -boat noodle 5 - it is served in a large bowl. The broth has a sweet and spicy mix. There is beef, noodles, pork rind, bean sprouts, and meatballs, -basil crispy pork 3.5 - I feel like the pork was too crispy and chewy. I would have liked it to be a little bit softer, crispy, and juicy. No one likes eating tough meat. -Thai iced tea 5 - standard, not watery. -crab rangoon 5 - pretty standard. It had a lot of crab imitation and cream cheese. -wonton noodle 5 - the wontons were very meaty. Don't sleep on that broth, it's very savory.

I walked in here on a random weekday to order lunch and the very nice old lady took my order and I asked her if she was the owner she is her husband is the cook and you can see him there too This is not really a sitdown place. It is definitely a carryout. And that's OK. It is however located in a very dilapidated strip mall. And so you definitely don't expect to find it here. Whoever the Landlord is of this dilapidated strip mall if you're reading this, shame on you. This place though is a true diamond in the rough and gem. I'm definitely coming back here. The curry was flavorful, packed with veggies and chicken, and paired so nicely with the fluffy white rice. We also got the pad woon sen, and it had a nice wok hei flavor; the noodles were bouncy and paired well with the hot sauce on the table as well. Lastly, we got the mango sticky rice for dessert, and they give you SO MANY MANGOES. The rice was sweet, and you had enough mangoes to pair it with every single bite of rice. The service was good; they always made sure to check in on us and even brought us extra plates to let us share our dishes. The only con I have is that I asked for potatoes in my curry, but I didn't know it'd be a dollar extra. It's not a big deal, but I'd love to know when I ask. The ambiance was very Thai themed, and they had a lot of awards for their restaurant. It also caught my eye that they won a food bracket tournament with other restaurants I have heard of as well. There's also a large parking lot and lots of seats if you want to dine in. I also noticed a large amount of takeout orders, so you can tell this place is very popular.

Because we were already somewhat close to the area, and didn't want to go back and forth, we ended up being seated before 4 pm. It turned out to be an excellent overall experience. Chef of Siam is in its own small, dedicated building on Waukegan Road, and isn't much to look at from the outside with an OK amount of parking. It is relatively remodeled modern inside and later found out that it's been open for 2 years now. We got to choose our seating (since we were the only ones there). Menus were given along with a set of 4 table sauces. We knew our group of five wanted to eat family style so got a variety of things: classics and some I've never tried before. Chicken Satay ($7.95) - 4 pounded chicken breast pieces, marinated in a curry sauce, coming with a good cucumber salad. Tom Kha with Chicken ($5.95) - very light with good flavor. Ended up getting two of these to share, and I ended up finishing one portion by myself. Som Tum Poo $12.95 - papaya salad with salted rice field crabs. The vegetables were all al dente, with that classic Thai taste of sweet and sourness The crabs were interesting...really small, cut in half so I sucked out the meat from what I could. But I ended up not eating the legs...I ate the first piece whole, shell and all and it wouldn't be worth the effort for me. Pad Thai with Shrimp ($16.95) - Decent size portion, with a good balance of sweet/sour and plenty of plump, jumbo shrimps. Rama Noodle ($12.95) - large amount of chicken breast pieces, over wide rice noodles, topped with a yellow curry sauce and steamed broccoli surrounding. I thought it was OK, and was the least eaten of the dishes. Massaman Curry with Tofu ($12.95) - I try to get this whenever available, and this style was decent. The curry was very runny, but was delicious on top of the accompanying rice and I enjoyed the small bricks of fried tofu. Pineapple Fried Rice ($16.95) - maybe the weakest of the dishes, and also the most expensive. Not sure why pineapple fried rice continues to be one of the more expensive dishes on any Thai menu (when available)....pineapple isn't that expensive. Red Snapper ($35.00) - a whole dressed red snapper, deep fried and topped with Thai sweet/sour sauce. It's not market price, so it came from frozen and it wasn't particularly big nor had much meat. This is now what the ingredient costs now. I personally enjoyed taking the tail and slowly grabbing all of the sweet meat. Fried Banana ($6.95) - a great way to finish the meal, there were plenty of deep fried banana pieces, using a batter that you would use for fries or shrimp? My aunt confirmed that it was not plantain, but banana and I enjoyed it (reminded me a little of a banana foster). The quality of Thai dishes are closer to a fine dining Thai restaurant rather than a quick take out, even though the prices are more than reasonable. An automatic 18% gratuity was added for our party of five, and it's a stiff 12.5% tax in this area. Service was friendly and even though our server gave us a carafe of water, she still personally refilled our glasses when it got near empty. I tend to sweat quite profusely when eating Thai cuisine, and I did so again this time. My wife asked for some more napkins so I could wipe my brow. Our server did one better by bringing over a large wet towel that I used. It wasn't necessary but much appreciated.
