The yellow curry was delicious. I was happy with the spiciness. The only critique I have about the curry was that there wasn't enough potato in it. Just a little update to let y'all know that this place continues to deliver on flavor and atmosphere. Thai food isn't something I crave often, but I love it every time I have it. I went back yesterday, Monday evening for dinner. My friend and I got the papaya salad, pad kee-mao with chicken, and red curry with tofu all at spice level 3. We both love spicy food, but Thai spice brings the heat! PenThai is our go-to Thai restaurant; we probably eat here at least a few times a month. It doesn't hurt that the restaurant is only a few blocks away from our house, so that makes it easy for us to order takeout any old time. They are also open every single day, and thus available whenever the craving for Thai food hits. Service is always friendly and hospitable. Because they are so dependable, we have a tendency to bring visiting friends and family to dine in. On the most recent occasion, we had a very picky toddler with us, and the staff noticed she wasn't eating and brought an off-menu item to better cater to her bland palate. That was very kind! For the rest of us who enjoy flavor in our food ;) the regular restaurant menu has a lot to offer. My usual orders are the Panang Curry or the Beef Salad. Really great food! We came in at around 6pm on a Thursday. There was plenty of room, but it certainly wasn't empty. The service was a little bit slow, but the flavor and variety of the meal options made up for that! We got Veggie Soup, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Pad Kee Mao. First from out of town looking for great Thai food and we did find that here , clean and great food , I had yellow curry, med heat so good , taste on point .although I thought it would have more veggies like a carrots or two other than just a whole onion, lol and potatoes, I get it everyone makes it different , but I added tofu. I've had this dish at other Thai with much more and tender pieces of duck but you won't find that here. I would choose some other protein with this spicy red curry, not the skimpy duck version. We've been loyal customers of Pen Thai for years, ordering from them at least twice a month. The food has always been delicious and consistent - which kept us coming back for more! Unfortunately, tonight's experience left us deeply disappointed. While eating an order delivered via UberEats, I discovered a dead cockroach in my orange chicken. As much as we've loved and supported this restaurant, this is a serious health and safety concern. I truly hope this is an isolated incident and that it's taken seriously and investigated. We've always considered this spot a go-to, but food safety has to come first. I have dined in and gotten carry out from this restaurant. I personally feel that their food tasted the same for both occasions. I ate here once in person and it was clean inside and we were sat quickly despite the place being very busy. And there's a reason it's very busy, because the food here is fantastic. So we were coming from Vernon hills to Arlington heights and on the way there my wife wanted to eat Thai food. And I was like it is south of where we wanted to go but I was like Lets do it since it is a 5 star restaurant with no food violation. Most Thai places typically have spice level options, so just make sure to mention the amount of spice you'd like! We love our food spicy so if you do too I'd recommend doing spice level 3 or 4!! The Thai tea was a 10/10!!! It was more on the sweet side but with the ice and everything, it tasted so refreshing. Pad See Ew & the basil fried rice had such great flavors and were cooked just right so the texture was amazing! The portions were huge so we had a lot of fried rice left over to take home!
