Wasn't sure what to expect of this place, I heard previously this place had good food. So I had to find out for myself. 4/5 stars is good but not the best. So I wanted to see if 4/5 was a truthful rating. I ordered the crab Rangoon's as an app. Instantly loved them. Good chewy to crunch ratio and paired with the sweet n sour sauce it's even better. The taste was as good as a crab Rangoon can get. Cream cheese overpowered the crab a bit. Although I think I preferred that. 8/10 My main entree was the Garlic fried rice with tofu. I liked this a lot too and the portion size was insane for the amount your paying! Not too oily and had lots of flavor within the rice, although the tofu was interestingly bland. To an extent in which it's not normal. Anyways I'm sure going with the beef or chicken would've been the better option, sadly a loss for vegetarians. 7/10 PS. Medium is traditional medium spice level. Next entree was the pad Thai noodles with chicken and with tofu. The pad Thai tasted like many pad Thais I've had before, but good ones! I really love this place. I have been coming here for probably two decades! Even though it does not look like much, their food is crave-able and delicious. I like how they put just the right amount of spice depending on how your order. Some places still make food spicy if you want mild or no spice. In my opinion, they have some of the best pad thai and curry fried rice anywhere! I really enjoy their iced tea, so sweet, creamy and delicious. The family is a big fan of the chicken satay. Either eating in or carrying out, they offer large portions and good prices (despite the extra percent added to the credit card, which I would rather they raise all of the prices, I rarely carry any cash). This is a place my family loves to come over and over again because they have good service, consistent food quality, and I know we are going to have a great experience here. I stopped in at Thai Fortune after reading the Yelp reviews. Certainly a mixed bag so order accordingly. Even the pictures seems to all be a monochromatic glob of food. I usually think of bright fresh food and colors in Thai food. This is more like the old days of Chinese takeout where the food turns into Asian aspic the food being encased in a block of brown jelly when cool. It could have been photographed in black and white. Ok I had #16. Chicken, pea pods etc, etc. Hot yet bland. Basic Thai fuel but nothing to write home about. The Thai salad is a green salad with tofu and bean sprouts. Fresh but basic. I took off one star as they do need to update their dining room. My coworker and I Tried this place for lunch one day. She had the Pad Thai and I had the Thai Fortune Noodles. We both liked what we ordered and found the portion sizes to be adequate. I ate in and was served shrimp chips with my order which was very generous. Would try them again for lunch. I did not find any fortune on my recent trip to Thai Fortune. I did find an empty restaurant lacking décor, large portions, and a friendly staff who spoke little English. We were the only dine in customers. It was a little awkward sitting at one of the 15 or so tables. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. It didn't really have any taste. Both the hot and sour soup and the pineapple curry were spicy, but bland, and a little too sweet. The portions were large enough for a good 3 meals and we both ate for under $20. There are too many other better Thai restaurants in the area. I don't think I'll be returning to Thai Fortune. read more

Maybe a generous 4 stars. More like 3.5. See: Edit at bottom. I got take out pad thai with tofu and vegetable tom kha. The tofu seemed fried, which was nice -- tofu can get rubbery pretty easily, but it was pretty good. The sauce used in the pad thai is interesting... there aren't a whole helluva lot of peanuts, it's loaded with fish sauce (which is to be expected), and they were sweet. I expect pad thai to have a sort of sweetness to it, but it's a *little* too much here. The tom kha was loaded with thai chilis. I asked to have medium heat, but they loaded me up. The soup itself tasted a bit above average. Creamy, salty, acidic.. about what I'd expect. But, the smell was crazy off-putting. It smelled a bit like rotting seafood and molded over, sweaty shoes -- BUT, I get that strangely often in Thai soups. And, all that really matters is the taste, and it wasn't bad at all. All-in-all, not a crazy great meal, but the prices and portions are excellent. There aren't many Thai places in the immediate area, so I'll likely be back. EDIT: Eghh.. three stars sounds a little more right. This time around I got the drunken noodles and tom yum, while my girlfriend got the garlic peanut something-or-other fried rice that says it's sweet. We also split the fried tofu appetizer. Drunken noodles were lacking. They are swimming in a sort of brown sauce and are mostly just salty. There's only a modest amount of Thai basil flavor, and the dish needed more depth. The tom yum was pretty tasty, but super oily. The flavor of the broth itself was good, but I have concerns regarding my bowels... The fried tofu was excessively bland -- unseasoned entirely. The peanut sauce is almost equally bland with only a subtle peanut flavor and sweetness.. it was also very runny. Pass on this. My girlfriend's rice was good, but excessively sweet. The menu warns that it's a sweet dish, but I feel it's overkill, and she did too. I guess if you want your savory fried rice to taste more like a dessert you'd like it, but I guess there's a small market that appeals to, if there's one at all... So, overall, meh. Not entirely crazy about this place after all. The curry fried rice and tom yum (and, to an extent, the tom kha) soups were quite good, but that's about it so far. It was decently spiced but next time I will get hot plus or thai hot. I went for lunch and free soup came with my meal. Nothing too impressive or good. I also order the chicken garlic fried rice. Went here for lunch on a Tue based on recommendation from Yelp. The place is not fancy. Tables and chairs very basic. They have ability to seat around 30-40 guests and it gets busy during lunch. For lunch they give you free small bowl of soup with your meal and fried shrimp crackers. The food is very reasonable and tastes fairly good. Spice level is spot on. I got a med spicy Chicken Kra Pow - good sized portion with a lot of white rice. My colleagues got 1. Curry Chicken Pad Thai - Pad thai with a curry spin on it.. looked yummy and 2. Veggie FR (very spicy) - their very spicy is truly 'very spicy' unlike some other thai spots in the area. All in all a good no frills lunch spot. I would gladly get it again, but I'd also gladly seek out new/better Thai food options in the area. The first time we went I got the Curry Fried Rice with tofu, no egg. I ordered it "between mild and medium" because I know Thai food is usually pretty generous with the spice, but I didn't want to have NO spice either. I ended up thinking it was more of a medium to medium +, but my boyfriend claims he didn't find it spicy at all. However, it was delicious and the tofu is fried pieces and has good texture to it. If I come back (a third time now), I'd probably go back to this. The second time I got the Peanut Garlic Curry Fried Rice (also tofu, no egg) despite the sweetness warning on the menu. I figured a little sweetness would be good -- my boyfriend says the Pad Thai here had a bit of sweetness but was pretty decent -- but this was like dessert. Once I poured on some liquid aminos to try to balance it out it was much better, but I'd recommend staying away unless you're looking for garlicky dessert. The fried tofu appetizer is bland and greasy. No seasoning whatsoever, and the peanut sauce was watery and didn't taste like much, either. I ended up just adding the extra tofu to my fried rice. According to my boyfriend, the Pad Thai is sweet (already mentioned) and the Drunken Noodles are decent. He did mean to order the Curry Pad Thai the first time and forgot, so he'll probably try that next. He's also had the Tom Kha and Tom Yum, and, like most else -- they were both okay. It's not great but it's not bad, either. 3.5 stars is fair. Love this place, the Gang Dang is my go-to order! The coconut cream sauce is a good mix of spicy and sweet. I get mild as the medium is quite hot in spice. I saw a mix of good and bad reviews, but this place is seriously so good so I figured it deserves another good review! I've been there maybe 4 times, each time they were nice, food ready in about 10-15 mins for pick up, and it was always delicious! Best Thai food in Michigan! Medium sized area (30-ish tables which seat 2-4), great for lunch. Place is normally standing room only by 12, so make sure you are there about 11:15 for lunch. You should be able to dine anytime for Dinner. You are served with soup (ranging in spiciness depending on how it is made that day, can normally be described as in between their "medium" and "spicy"), shrimp chips and water. They have a large selection of noodle, fried rice and curry dishes. The portions are pretty large and I normally have enough for lunch and dinner. The place is always packed for lunch and service is great. Lunch is very inexpensive ($6.50 per person) and Dinner is only slightly more expensive (comes in bigger portions). The spiciness ranges from Mild - Medium - Spicy - Hot - Thai Hot. This is an authentic Thai restaurant and unlike other places, they know how to add heat to a meal. Compared to most Thai places, their hot compares to Thai Fortunes "Spicy". You have been warned. Great place to go and try some new food, everything on the menu you can read and understand what it is. Highly recommended. read more

Super casual, hole-in-the-wall Thai place located in a strip mall. However, don't let the appearance throw you - their food is consistently delicious for a low price. I've only been here for lunch so not sure how the dinner crowd is. SEATING - small, all 2 or 4 top tables, maybe 20 tables total. They can combine them for a larger group but depending on how busy they are it might take a while. It's more of a seat yourself place so if you see an open table, or a group getting up, grab it. Those waiting just line up at the front door and next in line gets the next open table. LUNCH - it gets busy, if you're not there by 11:30 plan to wait for a table, however the service is pretty quick so the turn over is fast. You can definitely be in and out and back at your desk in an hour CARRY-OUT - they do offer call-ahead pick up as early as 10:30am or you can order and wait there PARKING - usually easy to find a space right out front in the strip mall lot FOOD - meals come with shrimp chips and sweet & sour soup. If you run out of shrimp chips, more baskets are on the counter by the register, don't be afraid to grab more yourself. Same for pitchers of water. The salads look a little sad here, I don't think they sell many so maybe not the freshest... All of the other food is consistently great! They do allow for modifications and always get it right. If this place is the best Thai restaurant in Michigan as another reviewer said, then I never ever want to live in Michigan. I ordered the Lard Na for dinner which came with hot and sour soup and fried shrimp chips. The Lard Na was totally not what I was expecting. Maybe there are different ways of making Lard Na but I expected it to have more of a dark sauce, but Thai Fortune's Lard Na had more of a transparent sauce that sorta looked like the sauce you get with sweet and sour chicken. The soup was okay but not as good as many hot and sour soups I've had before. This place seems to do a lot of take out business; it's pretty obvious from their lack of investment in decor and furniture that they don't expect people to actually eat here. My co-workers and I love Thai Fortune. We get carry-out more than eating there but we often do that too. Most of the reviewers are correct in that the dining area is sparse. It does fit the hole-in-the-wall restaurant feel. But the place is usually clean and always busy at lunch. The food portions are large and the price is good, normally $7 for lunch. I cannot say that I am a great connoisseur of Thai food but I enjoy the meal that I get. I normally get the same dish, as do the others I know, and it is usually always good. For most Thai restaurants that I've been to, this one wasn't bad. I liked how they served you a cup of soup with wontons, which were good btw. I decided to try one of the Spring Rolls and it was better than most that I've had. The entrée came out to me as a surprised because of the way it was served. Instead of serving my dish on one plate, it was served on two plates. My rice was separated from the rest of the ingredients. I was skeptical at first but I grew on the concept very quickly. Plus, there was a lot of flavor. I went on a rainy day around 1:00p and it was just dying down by the time I got there. The staff was really nice and extremely catering to their customers. This place is pretty awful. Ordered the Pra Ram Long Song curry, which is supposed to be a delicious peanutty sauce, and a Thai iced tea. Let's start with the tea...if you like to drink sugared milk without a hint of tea, you will love their version. The color was off-white and I could not taste tea in it. It might come from a powdered mix, because it was pretty chalky. As far as the curry goes, it was definitely the worst curry of any sort I've ever tasted. It was very sweet, as if they used sugar instead of salt or any other spices. The color was almost a fluorescent orange, the chicken was rubbery, and the dish was relatively inedible. Oh, and it was swimming in grease, too. I ate two bites and pushed it aside. I thought that with the first bite my tastebuds must have been tripping because it was so terrible, so then I took a second bite. Nope, the dish really was that disgusting. Seriously disappointing. The place is really busy, so maybe this was a mistake of a dish that came out from the kitchen, because there's no way they could be so popular serving shiz like that. As a college student, I ran on Thai Fortune. This place was a favorite of several of my friends and coworkers so I have plenty of pent-up experience to unleash in a Yelp review. The actual location is a bit run-down, but I think that adds to its "hole in the wall" character. At lunchtime, this place gets packed, so usually your best bet is just to order out, which is ridiculously fast. They will almost always have your food ready if you arrive after 10 minutes. Taste-wise, I'm in love with the pad woo sene (spelling?). Be careful about spicy levels (I'm sure that's in a review for every Thai place). I have never ventured above medium spice as my friend had his meal ruined by the next spice level. The same family has been running this place for years, and are always nice when I go in to pick up food. They do not price gouge and run between $6 and $10 for most dishes (which get more expensive at dinner time, FYI). Lastly, they offer a 10% discount to Oakland University students which is more than I can say for most other businesses in Auburn Hills. Overall, I hope this place is around for much longer. read more
