I've been to some of the other Bangkok Chef's and they were not good. However, I've heard positive things about this location, the original. I'm usually a green curry or panang curry kind of person. This time around I thought I'd try the chicken pad thai and fried chicken wings. They were both delicious. The aroma that the pad thai gave off was mouth watering. I took my first bite and it was as good as it smelled. They sauce and noodles were perfect. The wings were crispy and light, no breading. It was in the take out container for half an hour with condensation. I thought for sure that it was going to be soggy. Nope, it was still nice and crispy. I got the ala carte wings, since I didn't need the rice because I got the pad thai. I counted 16 wings, which is decent for the price. Dip the wings in the nuoc cham sauce that it comes with. The sauce puts it over the top. My friend ordered the lemongrass chicken and the veggies. I sampled both and they were good. I want to go back and try the curries. read more

Bangkok Chef used to be my favorite growing up. Everyone who works there is extra nice and knows what they're talking about. The food is decent, but seems like smaller more "doctor recommended" portions. Healthy for my gut, but not healthy for my appetite. There's fresh basil and vegetables plus the usual options. I always tend to get the Pad Thai and the Pad See Ew. I chose tofu as one protein and pork for the other. The Pad Thai was with tofu. I added sriracha, but it was a bit plain to me. The Pad See Ew had the fried basil flavor and that's what really made it great. But boy was it greasy. Both felt extra greasy. I recommend this place if you're looking for an alternative to fast food and you're like me and can eat noodles all day every day. Call ahead if you go and you'll save a lot of time. I've lived in the area for almost 5 year now and only in the last month have I been turnt on this place! Yes, it's a chain, and it's nothing fancy, but for quick, consistent, convenient Thai food close by, this is the spot. I often call ahead and order a green curry, with sticky rice, and subsitute tofu. It's about $12 for the entree and can be two portions. Curry is really tasty and it's always hot and fresh. Do check that you get the sticky rice though, since my boyfriend has many times driven off and not gotten sticky rice. I've also ordered through DoorDash when I was pretty ill and couldn't make it out of my apartment (negative on COVID!) and the prices might be just slightly more expensive, but not much more. You know how some places increase the dish price (and on top of delivery plus fee plus tip, now your order has about a 30% surcharge), and Bangkok Chef does not. I've tried the coconut/ube dessert, the papaya salad and the pad kee mao. I would say that the curries are best...all of these were very average. Parking is a little weird if you park in front, you can actually drive up the side walk and park right in front of the open door. Haven't been to Bangkok Chef in a while. Usually frequent this location and they never disappoint. It's best to call in your order if you are doing take out. If you go during peak lunch hour, parking may be difficult. I suggest going before the lunch crowd rush (if you are getting lunch). I got the ginger chicken with jasmine rice and some summer rolls. I ordered the yellow chicken curry with sticky rice and an order of summer rolls. I like the summer rolls from here. The wrap is very sturdy unlike most other places you order from. The summer roll is nicely filled and the sauce is flavorful. The curry flavor is a little bit on the milder side, but a little spicy which I kinda didn't mind. We came when it was empty and found prime parking in the front. We asked to get all of our dishes spicy but I think they forgot because none of it tasted spicy. Every time when I am craving Thai foods, Bangkok Chef is the place my friends and I would go to that is both tasty and convenient. We would always order spring rolls (6 pcs), fried chicken wings (Ala Carte: no rice), and Thai green curry with beef (Ala Carte: no rice). Spring rolls: I tried many spring rolls from different Thai restaurants and I have to say that this was one of the best spring rolls I have tried. It was crispy and hot inside out. The ground chicken was also quite flavorful and seasoned very well. Fried chicken wings: It was crispy but a little bland. Their house special sauce, which I think is just sweet and sour sauce, helps add flavor to the chicken. Thai green curry with beef: The portion was big enough to feed three people and there was still some left over. The curry was on the watery side, but the taste and the ingredients in the curry were plentiful and good. Overall, this place serves pretty good Thai food at a reasonable price. The portion was large enough to save as leftovers for the next day. We usually take out our orders and the service was always quick, within 10 to 15 minutes wait time. read more

Highly recommend placing a phone order prior to coming since they don't have the best parking spots. I always grab their Thai green curry and pad Thai! I recently tried their Thai coffee and it was super good! It had a nice sweetness and the sugar wasn't super overpowering. I work up the street from this joint and order lunch often when the office is craving Thai. Food is always great. My favorite noodle option is pad si yu with shrimp. An office favorite is the basil chicken and spring rolls. The do they're best to follow COVID guidelines, I mean they have tables in front of the register to ensure that there is enough distance away from themself and the customer. Mediocre Thai food. It's always been consistent. Consistently mediocre. But years ago the portions used be enormous which was why I still went. A couple entrees would be lunch for an entire week. Now portions are a lot smaller. So there's no redeeming value of patronizing the place. Honestly surprised they are still in business. Honolulu is a desert of quality Thai restaurants.
