Learned my lesson after selecting Bangkok Restaurant based on delivery service rating, which sounded quite promising at 4.8. A quick check of reliable standby, Yelp, was lacking. My rating is 3.0 Good pricing, decent amount of food, typical selections, with sketchy area, especially after dark and uneven quality of dishes. My DH went with his typical Chicken Pad Thai. There's no place on the online ordering system, still furnished by the restaurant, for desired heat level, which is pretty important for Thai joints. I wrote in the Notes section "please make this dish mild, without peppers". For myself, the Pad See-Ew with pork. I always dream of getting char siu but dream on. Also selected the generic fried rice and a couple other dishes. Gung Pad Pak, shrimp sauteed with winter mix veggies and peas. The last item was Pad Ke Nieu, with green peppers and tomatoes and some very big and soggy pieces of bok choy. The best dish was the sauteed shrimp and veggies, which all tasted fresh. The worst was the veggie and beef. About half pound dried out rice noodles, possibly not rehydrated long enough in water beforehand. I found a teaspoon's worth of tiny beef fragments. The Pad Thai was okay but the chicken was rooster-tough and dry. The included chopped Thai peppers had my poor honey stop eating after only a few bites. The Pad See-Ew had plenty of small pieces of thin, dry and tasteless pork, which had a very unusual grain, like wood burls. Veggie and noodle ratio fine but this dishes badly needed sauce. About 1 1/2 teaspoons of those firey little peppers in mine, which I also ordered mild. No issues with the fried rice and I did really enjoy my refreshing Jackfruit milkshake. The spot is in a strip mall, with lots of unhoused folks wandering around and possibly making some customers uncomfortable. The bare bones decor shows a business trying to make do but I hope they have a heart and share some of their end of evening leftovers with those less fortunate, instead of just throwing that away. read more

First time here, and it was good. I got the Tom Yam Gung soup and it was tasty; came with a good amount of shrimp. My friend got the chicken curry and it's her favorite! It is clear that the owners take immense pride in what they do--they must be perfectionists. I don't see how anyone could rate this business fewer than 4 stars, and the negative comments about pests are frankly absurd. Cockroaches are a widespread city-wide issue, but let me be absolutely clear: I have NEVER seen a single roach at Bangkok Restaurant. Given how meticulously clean their dining room and glassware are, any claims to the contrary are hard to believe. I would much rather dine in a clean, well-kept restaurant that focuses on food safety than one over-reliant on harsh chemical sprays that are known to cause cancer. Roaches are a NUISANCE pest that don't cause cancer and probably wouldn't even cause food poisoning if they were in cooked food. FUN FACT: The average person unknowingly consumes up to a couple of POUNDS of ground up insects in their food (fresh produce, chocolate, bread etc.) every year! I've dined at many Thai restaurants over the years, including highly rated spots in the Bay Area, but the simplicity, consistency, and authenticity of Bangkok Restaurant's dishes are far superior. If you want greasy, over-seasoned food or a "stylish and hip" storefront, this might not be the place for you. Over Priced. I never do reviews but I was so disappointed by this place. I went there for my lunch I was craving some thai food and when ordering my favorite spot was clothes so I searched for another location. I ordered to go. Picked up my food my total was $37 I ordered pad seew and a papaya salad. I asked for beef and that was an extra $2 charge. When I got back to work I open the noodle plate and I saw no beef I had to move the noodles apart to discover the 3 pieces of beef. I should have just done the chicken if that was the case. The Brocolli tasted old. I couldn't believe I paid $37 for the food I got. This was my first and last time going there . Next time I'll just go to McDonald's and wait for my go to thai restaurant. This place used to be one of our go-to spots, but unfortunately our most recent visit was really disappointing. I took my mom there for a late lunch after her doctor's appointment, and we ordered the beef laarb, fish cakes, Pad Thai, Tom Yum Gai, and a bowl of beef & meatball noodle soup -- we came in hungry and expecting a great meal. Sadly, almost every dish missed the mark. The beef laarb was made with sliced beef instead of the traditional chopped/ground style, and the lime was overpowering, which threw off the balance of flavors. The fish cakes were undercooked and still slimy in the center, with a texture and taste that didn't resemble fish cakes at all. The chicken in the Tom Yum Gai tasted old and stale, and the Pad Thai was overly sour. To make matters worse, my mom didn't feel well afterward. Based on this experience, we won't be returning. Really hoping they improve, but I can't recommend it right now. read more

Did a quick pick up order for dinner last night. Luckily when I walked in there were only a few guests dining in so it was quiet. I was quickly greeted by two employees. Then a gentleman grabbed my order from the back counter. He thanked me and then place my order on the front counter. The transaction was quick and smooth. It's been a minute since my family visit this location. The main reason is that we don't order take out much and the location is quite far from our home. The fact that this place is still open and operating is CRAZY. I grew up eating here long ago when it was a different owner when it was still decent. I stopped coming here when there was roaches in the food and running around on tables, absolutely disgusting. They have an extreme roach infestation that how many years go by and it seems that nothing has been done. I went here the other day for a birthday request and I thought well I haven't been here in years I guess it's fine, wrong. There was a roach in our food of course and I notified the waiter and he ask me "how did that get in there?" Like why are you asking me that question? A quick scroll thru the photos on here will show pictures from 8 YEARS AGO with the roaches in the food. It was absolutely disgusting!! Now, if you want a review based off just the food and not the roach infestation, it's still not worth coming. They have the smallest portion than any other Thai restaurant and that's saying something because Thai restaurant notoriously serves the tiniest portions. The lad na had the most disgusting SNOT-like texture not gravy at all. This place is just terrible. If you want food poisoning and extra protein in your food guaranteed then please come here. It's been a while since I came here mainly cause we don't live in town. If we did, this would be a regular place to dine in...place is always clean and service is normally good. As much as I love their food, I have to say I was disappointed in their service (for to-go food) I arrived right before 1pm and I placed my order for my "normal" dishes and was told my food would take about 25 minutes. I told her it was fine and even gave $15 tip on a $115 bill cause they've always been consistently good. I noticed someone just came in to pick up a catering order. I gave latitude on the fact that at that point 30 minutes had passed. I also noticed another couple of customers came in with previously phoned in orders. Another patron came in, placed his order easily 15 minutes after mine was placed. 35 minutes after I placed my order, I asked how much longer it would take.. and she went to check. She said it was almost done. Then the guy said sorry it took so long, and I walked out the door 47 minutes after I placed my order along with the guy that came in 15 minutes after me. I was so disappointed and regretted giving them that tip. I never had service like this before. First when we came in we felt unwelcome. My mother and I stood there looking at each other seeing when they would seat us. They never knowledge us to seat us even though it wasn't very busy. Finally we sat down and they took our order which was still a wait. We got two combinations noodle soup, which was 10.45 each I believe. That's all we got and no extra. I asked for a napkin. Took the waiter forever to get me some. I accidentally spilled sauce on the table and I need napkin to wipe my mouth. While we sat there dinning and I'm still waiting on my napkins, seems like they gave more attention to the regulars than new comers. Which that's not how it should be. Everyone should feel welcomed. That's not the worse part. We ended our meal and paid. The total was suppose to be maybe 23-24 dollars after taxes. The total came out to be 28 dollars and some change. Then a few days later we saw another transaction for a few more dollars total up to 32 dollars and some change. I guess they decided to tip them self. Which is not okay. That's stealing from customers. Never coming here to this sleaze ball restaurant stealing from customers. I recommend you guys don't either unless you want an unexpected charge. read more

I've been here a few times in the past and have neglected to share my experiences so here I am. For lunch, our party of 6 ordered the following: * Papaya Salad (Lao Style) * Chicken Larb * Beef Larb * Chicken Skewers * Crispy Fried Chicken Wings * Potak (hot and sour seafood soup) * Combination Chow Fun with Gravy * Jasmine Rice and Sticky Rice Everything was prepared upon order. So fresh, well seasoned, and infused with traditional Khmer cooking herbs and spices. I was quite impressed with everything on our table -- from taste to presentation -- I give everything a thumbs up. The portions were quite generous because we even had to pack most of the items to go. I don't always rave about papaya salad unless it's worth mentioning, but I will admit -- these guys came through. My "combo" soup only had x2 shrimp, 1 meatball and 1 fish patty and decent amount of meat. Very flavorful After an hr we finally got some of the food; laap and sticky rice and soup. I get that the food is made fresh and there aren't many workers but many people came in after my party and got their food first. But, it's also been a long stretch of time, and things always change. The food was good. Not bad, not amazing, and definitely not as delicious as I remember. However, it did the job, and I feel satisfied. The shrimp fried rice looks like there's only one shrimp, but there were five. The pad thai was so-so, nothing really stands out. I should've been more specific as to how many peppers I wanted in my papaya salad as well instead of saying super hot because it was the exact opposite of that. I mostly get one thing, but I've tried many dishes here, and it's a true Thai Restaurant. I actually could come here daily! 2 faves are Beef Salad and Angel Wings. During the week, when Chuckie is there, the service is great! There for a while, weekends had poor service. Now it is better, so I'm told. They serve beer and mixed drinks too! But I don't know what angel wings are supposed to taste like so I can't compare it to anything. The Thai tea and Neau namtok are always good additions to the meal. The only downside I feel is that the spice levels here are inconsistent. When I get spicy pad Thai it's sometimes just right or way too spicy that it's hard to eat. I can't say that I was overly impressed, or even remotely so. First off service was rather indifferent and not very friendly. We were seated promptly enough but everything seemed to be an imposition, and the place wasn't that crowded. The atmosphere is rather dismal, strip mall atmosphere, dark and dank. Not much to feel uplifted over. I ordered a ground pork meal with veggies and Japanese eggplant. We also had a chicken satay. The pork meal was average. Rice was heaped to the side but overall it was ordinary. I asked for spicy and it was barely. I suspect it was ignored and just delivered as always. The satay wasn't bad and the peanut sauce OK but the vinegar type clear sauce tasted horrible. I almost had to spit it out. YUK! The meal seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to arrive and I'll suspect it was the satay. Most Thai restaurants are fast. Our water glasses were never refilled and we were never asked if the meal was OK. The meal was filling enough but not anything to get excited over for quality.
