If you go with the Duck Ped Panang, you will be incredibly happy * Be prepared to pay a pretty penny. This is not inexpensive, junky take-out * Service is a bit scattered and abrupt, though friendly enough * Portions are huge I prefer to take out vs eat in but it's good for either. Terrible!! The only thing that's authentic about this place is the old train house that it use to be. The portion of the food was small and it took forever to come out! They used 1980's plating techniques as filler for the nearly empty plates. Next time keep the fancy sliced radish, and raw piece of kale off my plate. No thanks I did not order that! And the only time I want a sliced orange is if I'm eating a fruit salad or drinking an old fashion! The two waitresses working were multitasking as hostess, waitress, and bus girl...who knows maybe they cooked the food too? NO WAY people who wrote good reviews, ever tasted real Thaï food... Every dish here taste the same and they put ASPARTAME/MSG everywhere. Very little spices and flavor, it is so bland, nothing seems fresh : what a shame! You can do the same at home with the cheapest coconut can, some pre-mix spices and frozen chicken/shrimps : just put it all in the microwave and...here you go : bon appetit! As i have stated in previous reviews; I love Thai food. I have had Thai food all over Thailand and all over the world. I know Thai food. So we decided to give this place a try. The place is set inside de of what look like an old train car. It's small and there is nothing wrong with that. The place is not that clean or neat. Still i wondered what the food would be like. Service was good but the older lady that is serving doesn't pay attention to what one is saying or asking. I felt like I was at a Chinese restaurant not Thai. They just say "yeah yeah yeah" but you know they either don't understand what you are really asking for or they just don't care. That the vibe I got at least. Anyways let talk about food. I ordered the beef with basil and it was ok at best. It hardly tasted Thai. But it was good. I also ordered the pineapple fried rice. And it was not what I expected. The rice looked and tasted overlooked and very clumped. It had almost no cashew or pineapple and it tasted like Chinese food ( nothing wrong with Chinese food but I was sitting in a Thai restaurant not Thai fusion). There was no typical flavor in the food from Thailand. The prices were not low prices in my opinion. If I'm going to pay $15 for a pineapple fried rice plate and another $14 for the beef plate. They better be tasty and large portions. And they were neither. In the three months that I have trying to hit all the Thai restaurants in Jersey and New York, this has been my least favorite. 2 stars for the service I received. 3-4 stars for the food. Today my party of four waited 20min for our waitress to take our order and an additional 50 min for our food to be served. When our food was served we did not receive napkins or a table cloth. I had to grab some from an adjacent table. I ordered chicken Pad Thai. I'm not an expert on Thai food but my dish was as tasty as other Thai restaurants in NYC. Both the size and the number of chicken pieces were generous vs NYC counterparts. I was happy with my choice. At this point the meal was good enough to forget the poor service in the beginning. Fail! My supposed lunch special miraculously turned into a regular menu price when I received my bill. I asked for clarification and the waitress said she thought I ordered from the regular menu. How is that possible when our entire party ordered specifically from the lunch special menu? She gave me a half effort apology, reminded me to be more specific the next time I patron their establishment and still charged me the higher price. Not a good sign when the establishment blames you for their mistake and doesn't offer any correction to the mistake. My $10 special turned into a $20 bill. I was with company and it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Didn't want my day ruined by arguing a bill. I simply bit my lip and paid the bill. FYI.....they are old fashioned with paper receipts and they simply hand write your bill/order in Thai language and they automatically added tip/tax into the total bill without an itemized breakdown. Thus, I paid tip twice for twice the bad service; I didn't realize this scam till after the fact. Conclusion: Food - The ONLY enjoyable part of this experience. BUT at the cost of..... Service - unsatisfactory. I am not interested in coming back again just to prove I had one bad isolated incident. read more

This restaurant recently reopened. I suspect totally different personel in the kitchen. THe refinement of the old cuisine is gone. Today the vegetables served almost uncut and barely cooked. The onions in my duck dish, $19.90 was totally raw. Last time it was the same with my chicken soup, Thom Ka Kai. Mind you the duck was not cooked crispy either. 5 stars for this excellent Thai restaurant which is in downtown Nyack. We stopped here for lunch. The duck (#22 on the menu) was perfection, tender and in a delicious curry sauce. I also tried the chicken pad Thai which was very good. Singha beer was the perfect compliment. The best Thai food in Rockland. This tiny, dark (the building looks like an abandoned train car) spot in Nyack looks dingy, but the food is excellent. Came with my family, and we split a bunch of dishes. My favorites were the soft shell crab special, as well as the duck, both which came with a delicious thai curry sauce on top. My family also really likes the "Tiger Cry" beef, though I wouldn't rush to order it, personally (there's just too much other good, more Thai-tasting stuff!) The pad thai is the true test of any Thai restaurant, and it didn't disappoint. It managed to be really good, while also not tasting greasy and unhealthy, a difficult balancing act. Just BARELY holding it back from 5 stars - first, the service is a bit rough. Even in this tiny restaurant, it was still amazingly hard to find someone to refill waters or get the check. Also, it's pricey, though I had to just check that now, since I came with my parents, who ordered and paid, so I recommend doing the same. read more

This place is so cute! I love the train car atmosphere. So cute and special. I've been here many times and always was pleased. The food is very fresh and more authentic than Thai food you get in the city. The prices are on the high side for thai food but it's still reasonable given the portion sizes. I'm a big fan of the lemongrass soup, too. It was so delicious and really hit the spot with the perfect tang. I've noticed they use more spice and more oil in their dishes than other Thai restaurants I've checked out. My husband's massaman was doused in oil which we noted after he finished all the meat. It's easy to eat around it but definitely interesting. I was a bit peeved recently because we took my mom out for dinner and they overspiced her food. She asked for spicy which she can handle (and has had their version of spicy hundreds of time in the past) and she couldn't even eat it. We thought she was having a sensitivity on this day but we all tried it and found it unbearable. It must have been a mistake in the kitchen. We will be on the lookout next time. read more

Been here twice. Got the Gang Keow Whan twice. Its green curry with string bean, eggplant, pepper, basil leaves, and coconut milk. You have the choice of chicken, scallop or jumbo shrimp. I couldn't decide between shrimp and scallop, asked for both, good choice. It says hot on the menu. The waitress asked how spicy I wanted it. I said "very spicy", I got no spice, which I guess is about the same thing. It was very good anyway. I had the Tom Ka Gai soup to start which is Thai style coconut soup with chicken, lemongrass and lime juice. The description instead should be coconut soup with a crap load of celery and onion, lime juice, and chicken. Not so great. My bud had the pad see ew with duck. He liked it. The food was way oversalted. Thought it was just a fluke but all the entrees came out the same. Shrimp pad thai had too much fish sauce, the penang curry was too thick and salty like it was reduced too much, and same with the pork with veggies basil and chili. Excellent spot in Nyack. I can't believe I didn't try it before this year! We took my (somewhat picky) dad, and even he loved it! The staff is incredibly friendly, and happily accommodated our requests for more food as we went along. The wontons are fried to absolute golden brown perfection. The curries are the perfect balance of flavors. The duck was crispy on the outside and deliciously juicy on the inside. Even the Lao beer we tried was yummy!?I highly recommend checking out this wonderful little spot. I'm pretty sure my belly is still full from my meal there last night! The food was absolutely delicious and the decor and ambiance were great. I went there with my mom and sister and we got three dishes to share: Ka Ma Muang, Beef Panang, and Pad Thai Chicken. For dessert we had the fried bananas with coconut ice cream. All of the dishes were unique and well-cooked/presented. If I just based my review on last night's dinner I would give this restaurant one star because we ordered take out and when I got home and tasted the pad Thai I was craving all day, I threw the whole dish in the garbage. It was very very salty. I don't know if the chef made a mistake and put too much salt or too much fish sauce but I could not ignore how bad it was. I have had good dishes at this restaurant in the past that would warrant 3.5 stars but because they are so inconsistent, I can only give it 2 stars. I've had good experience with the curries, but the noodle dishes are usually a miss. The pad seew is usually over cooked and the last time we ordered, the noodles came shredded in little pieces. Not sure what that was about. I don't know why we don't have a gourmet Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

Great! We got yummy spiced tea which warmed us right up after coming in from the cold (free refills!) The wonton appetizer was good, and our entrees were great. We wanted "spicy" and were not disappointed. The green curry was the perfect balance of hot and sweet (coconut), and the spicy noodles were great. Dishes were cleared promptly, but we didn't really feel rushed and lingered there sipping tea for quite awhile. I love Thai food and was really excited to try this place for lunch one day since I work close by. The woman who greeted me and took my order was extremely nice and accommodating. She offered me water while I waited for my food to go. I wanted to give this place more stars, but unfortunately the food was sub-par especially for the price. Maybe if I had eaten it in the restaurant (which is beautifully decorated, by the way) the quality would have been better. I ordered a spicy vegetarian noodle dish which surprised me by not being quite that spicy. It was also drowning in sauce which I was not a fan of. Other reviews are saying they have excellent food though so I am willing to try this place again and maybe get a more traditional dish like pad thai. read more

We love Thai food. Never had Thai food outside of NYC before so I was excited to find out about this place, closer to home. I told my husband I was in trouble when I saw celery in my Tom Yum soup. Never had Tom Yum with celery before and when I tasted the soup it was awful. We also ordered beef with basil. Didn't see the basil, just tons of string beans and the beef was tough and chewy. I spit a piece out. The chicken pad Thai was ok but when I tasted the chicken by itself it had no flavor, like no salt or pepper. The white rice on the side was wet.
