I visited Banjo Coffee on a Saturday morning for a bite to eat and a place to study. Nice quaint coffee shop that happened to be the second shop i've been to that has the Nitro infused cold brew coffee, and in fact they have a yelp check in deal going where you get $1 off this very same nitro coffee. I decided against getting their nitro cold brew, since it was a crummy and rainy day, but instead got a warmer beverage. Staff recommended the Lavendar Latte ($4.85), and I thought it would go great with their Rocket toast ($4.75) The Rocket toast is a Sourdough bread topped with prosciutto, arugula, goat cheese crumbles and all covered with a Balsamic drizzle. This was a fancy piece, that had several flavors coming at me at once. I probably could've stood for a little more prosciutto, because I didn't taste it (though I did see it), but all in all, not bad! I was told the Lavendar Latte wasn't very sweet at all, much to my delight, and they were right. It had a very spiced, flavor to it that I wasn't expecting, but enjoyed all the same. And how's the caffeine? Well as I sit typing this at about 1:49 am, more than 12 hours after having my latte, I had my first yawn. That's some good stuff! Located next to the Beer Growler off of Avondale road, this is a ver small parking lot that holds probably less than 10 cars at a time, but does have a couple of exits, making it not so difficult to get in or out. There were several seats inside with good customer service. Music does play in the background, but it was a loud environment, between the normal chatter, to a couple of guys talking VERY loudly, even with ear plugs, I could hear a lot of noise. So if you're expecting nice quiet study environments, I guess it depends on the customers you happen to be with. Local, independent, organic, Yelp friendly cold brew coffee shop with snacks, beverages with "keep you up" levels of caffeine, and even an actual banjo (on their wall). What's not to love? If you're up for some caffeine and are in the area, you may want to stop in and see what these guys are doing. read more

Love the Banjo Coffee shop. They have a great selection of delicious coffees/espresso, cold brews, local meats, and other local goodies. They have a great quick breakfast (bagel sandwiches and a breakfast wrap yum). I also love that they carry Montaine Sparkling Water as well. I had been going to this shop prior to COVID19, and I have been so impressed with how they have handled safety measures and continued to do business in a safe way. On National Coffee Day, I entered and ordered a cup of coffee. Nothing hard. I discover they were out of sugar, creamer, and napkins. When I politely requested these items, the coffee maker responded with a sneer. Their coffee was overcooked, which was quite disappointing. It seemed like they were trying to emulate Starbucks, although Starbucks uses better quality beans than Banjo, whose origins remain a bit mysterious. The woman working behind the counter appeared surprised that a customer had asked for assistance or posed a question. Go to the Wonderful World of Coffee and Tea. I totally have a new favorite - Hickory Chicory. My first time having coffee on tap and I must say I'm hooked. Bourbon Vanilla Latte is smooth, bold but not overwhelming. Also you can get a growler yum 2 Go gotta that. Apple Pay system in place which is a definite plus. As I sat and enjoyed my brew a line started to form because this place is popular with the local Avondale/Decatur neighborhood but like me I heard person after person not only compliment the idea of tap coffee but also rave after - wait on it.... free sample shots to experience the flavor. Loved this cute little, quaint coffee joint right next to that hot dog shop (the name slips my mind). Not sure why Google Maps took me there instead. Anyway, plenty of seats inside! Though, I do wish the center tables had easier access to an outlet. I ordered the Dirty Chai Latte - I can never go without Chai latte's at any new coffee shop I try. It's like my initiation lolll. They have plenty of special drinks that I definitely would like to come back and try! The write up for this coffee shop/brand is long over due. To be honest I thought I had written it already. Banjo Cold brew literally changed my way of thinking about how to drink coffee. I met the owner Billy way back in 2014 and told me about his company Banjo Coffee and it was going to be cold brew. I had no idea that it could be made cold ( without adding ice that is ). He explained the process from how to choose the beans to bottling. This is way before the cold brew craze. Great story that you should def ask the owners Chasidy and Billy about. I tried two, the original and the sweet, and I can't decide which I like better. Original: nice smooth and I think like a subtle Carmel flavor. Not bitter at all. The smoothness to drink I compare it to like a warm tea. You could drink it quicker but tastes so much better just drinking it slowly. Sweet: I'll admit I have a bit of a sweet tooth and this is fits it nicely. Same as above just a hint of sweetness. Overall: as I'm writing this I realize I said a hint or subtle a couple of times and it's because I'm use to buying coffee that's bitter. This coffee stands alone due to it smoothness and clean/freshness after taste. I'm in Chicago and was lucky enough to have a friend bring me back some from business trip he was one. I got a lavender latte. It was good but not great. The price was reasonable and better than Starbucks. The reason I am not giving this a higher rating is because (I believe) the latte gave me an upset stomach. I think it was the milk or something just didn't sit right with me. Was on a morning walk and came across this coffee shop. It was super tiny insofar, but quaint. However we were taking ours to go so no biggie. We got iced coffee and they were great but had to mix the drink up as the coffee didn't move down to the bottom and was all milk. Had a apple cinnamon scone as well which was yummy. Decided to try this place one morning and I regret everything!!! First of all the cashier was not friendly nor had a positive attitude. I decide to order a caramel ice coffee, they had no caramel at 8:30 am??? How??? Coffee was bitter and watered down. I then ordered a plain bagel toasted with cream cheese. They claim it's from emerald city bagels in Atlanta but it IS NOT! Worst bagel I've ever had. So salty and stale. Even had to put the cream cheese on myself. Was so excited to find a bagel place so close to home but terrible choice. This place is 100% not worth it! And to my fellow New Yorkers, don't even think about twice. read more

The nitro cold brew and hibiscus are wonderful. The cans to go is a great idea, however the nitro coffee is best fresh off tap and seemed subpar from the can. The enployees are very neutral in attitude and are t very helpful. When they had an issue with their cups and lids fitting, rather than replacing my Coffee the spilled down the front of me, they had me pay for a second one. I still go back, but my ruined shirt and car seat takes a star away: do love the reusable eco friendly straws and space though! read more

My breakfast consists on a shot of espresso over ice with the addition of 3 more shots. This makes me an addict but also means I know what I'm talking about. My favorite thing here is their Nitro Coffee and if I need a boost add a shot of espresso to it. I highly recommend this place. read more

Discovered Banjo coffee a month or so ago and I would highly recommend this place as great alternative to chain coffee places. The coffee is amazing and they have a great selection of their own signature drinks. The best thing about Banjo just might be their biscuit breakfast sandwich. Absolutely amazing. You just don't expect to find biscuits like this a coffee house. If I could recommend one thing is to add biscuits and gravy to the menu. Those biscuits deserve some gravy baby. read more

Cool little spot for coffee in Avondale. It's almost like a beer place, but with coffee instead. If you've ever been to a Beer Growler in Atlanta, it has a little bit of that same feel (and there is actually one right next door). But, some of their drinks are on draft and they will give you free samples of anything up there. I tried the coffee chai and enjoyed it, and the gentleman working suggested if you added any type of cream or milk to it it would taste like a very dirty chai latte - and MAN was he right. Adding the milk took it from liking the drink, to loving the drink. It was delicious. I really appreciate the guy making an awesome recommendation. Can't wait to go back and try more! read more

Nitro? Yes, plz! Imagine cold brew coffee with the mouth-feel/texture/creaminess of a Guinness. That's what nitro gives you. I usually order my coffee black. But every once in a while, I want a rich, creamy coffee beverage. Why don't I just put cream in my coffee? Because I'm sadly trying to cut out dairy from my diet *cries cheese tears.* Nitro coffee has been popping up everywhere these days and I haven't found an accessible location to get my fix until now. I'm grateful that it came up just as things are starting to warm up. Hitting that perfect afternoon nap-hour but needing to stay awake, I decided to swing by--I'm definitely glad I did! I ordered their nitro cold brew ($4.50). The first thing I do whenever I get my nitro beverages is stare at the cascading bubbles--which is unique to nitro. It's actually quite pretty when you sit and watch your cold brew. After being mesmerized for a little bit, I took a sip. I love coffee, but I'm inexperienced and lack the vocabulary to really describe it. The nitro cold brew is good, though I've had better. I think I prefer a more floral nitro brew vs an earthy one? I waver between a 3-4 rating on the coffee alone, so I would rate it at 3.5. One of the cool things is that you can get growlers of their cold brew (not nitro, since the bubbles don't keep well if you don't maintain pressure)! One of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego used to have this and when I was making more money I would splurge on a growler, so I look forward to treating myself to this at Banjo. The location is near a lot of cute thrift shops, making it a fun little stop before shopping. The space is decorated in a rustic-industrial-hipster style, which has a cozy vibe. There are a bunch of tables to spend an afternoon studying or daydreaming and the best part is that this place is fairly new (and less known) so you don't have to fight for a table. According to their website, they're currently in the soft opening phase and are adjusting their menu. I look forward to returning to try more of their food items and more coffee! Too long? Overall, compared to other nitro brews I've had, this is solid. I would give the cold brew alone a 3.5/5 but giving the whole space a 4 because... - Space is well-decorated (rustic/hipster/minimal) and there are lots of tables for working - Can buy growlers of cold brew coffee - Close to where I live, which doesn't have that many local coffee shops serving nitro read more

This is my favorite regular coffee shop. Everything is always delicious and crafted with care. It's not fast but that's not what I go there for. The espresso drinks are delicious and they have some unusual options. The baked goods and food are well worth it. I'm particularly fond of the chicken salad and they serve Emerald City bagels. Stopped in this place for the first time yesterday and it was great. I got a hot coffee and one of their "fancy toasts". The coffee is on a totally different level than going to a chain coffee shop and I am still thinking about that toast!!! It was toasted sourdough bread with goat cheese, honey and dried lavender flowers, which made it feel extra special. I sat down with my laptop and worked for a while. I got a lot done! Fast, easy to access wi-fi was available and with some small tables and one communal table, it was just the right atmosphere for me to focus. I just wished I lived on this is side of town so I could come here on a regular basis, but whenever I am in the Decatur/AE area, I plan on stopping into Banjo! read more
