Came here for Sunday brunch and was told it would be a 90 minute wait! My friends were still in Brooklyn, so I put our names down and walked around the village. After an hour my friends showed up and coincidently at the same time, I got a text saying our table was ready so we headed to banter and looked at the menu. Banter NYC is a Australian inspired cafe featuring all your favorite brunch classics and health-conscious fare. They have all day brekkie, sandwiches, bowls and snacks. There is a variety of beverages including coffees, teas, beer, cocktails and even mocktails for those who choose not to indulge in alcohol. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which is a buttermilk fried chicken, lettuce, pickles, Mike's Hot Honey, garlic aioli, spicy aioli on a sesame bun with sweet potato fries. My friend ordered the thai crunch wrap, chicken with spicy cashew dressing, edamame hummus, carrots, kohlrabi, cucumber, watermelon radish, cabbage, & herbs on a toasted spinach wrap. My other friend got the BYOB - build your own brekkie. He got two eggs over easy on sourdough toast with hashbrown and mushrooms on the side. Wonderful Aussie brekky! All so fresh. The best was the smoked salmon toast hands town. Our waiter also recommended it. I love the pickled onions and the bread. Next I loved the big breakfast. Delicious and loved the eggs and bacon. Yum. Bacon was cooked perfectly. Not crispy and so salty and juiccccy. The French toast was good but just ok. Such a cute and charming cafe for quick breakfast with my boyfriend We walked over and were able to sit immediately. Service was quick and knowledgeable Menu is concise and well rounded for breakfast and lunch options. I had the Avocado Toast with a poached Egg on top and my partner ordered the Build Your Own Breakfast Platter with Eggs hash browns toast and bacon. Meal was delicious, fresh and our coffees were expertly made. Would recommend to anyone in the area for a quick breakfast. Banter is a solid breakfast spot that has an online waitlist and doesn't get way too crowded on the weekends. We were able to get a table for 3 on a Sunday morning at 10am straight away! This is definitely a California style/ Australian brunch where they have delicious healthy eats! The food didn't blow me away but it was good. Got the tempura fried cauliflower, it was fine. Cauliflower was cooked well but was inconsistently seasoned. Some bites lacked flavor, some were too salty. Place was clean service was good. Seating was fine, was a little cramped but that's typical for the area. Sauce was fine, I felt like the seasoning on the cauliflower didn't go well with it and it wasn't a great combination. Ate here solo on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I was able to be seated in about 10 mins, whereas I saw group after group leave once they were told the wait would be an hour and 45 minutes. Once I was seated, my order was taken almost immediately, which would have been a bit annoying had I not already known what I wanted. My food came out quickly and the presentation was lovely. The French Toast is gorgeous, but I don't think the toast holds its own and hinges on being heavily topped. Nutella, granola, strawberries, bananas, blackberries, cashews, pepitas, granola, etc. It also already comes with the syrup drizzled on it, which in hindsight, I could've done without. During the time I ate, no one checked on me at all. I wanted to order a coffee, but never got to. I figured once there was a napkin on my plate my waiter would come back, but no. The person who took my order walked past me many times, I made eye contact, said excuse me. Nothing. I wasn't in a rush, so I just dawdled and read on my phone. Eventually, someone came up from the cellar and as soon as he walked in, scanned the room and checked on me. That same person cashed me out as well. I didn't get their name, but they had locs. I think this is a solid breakfast spot, but not worth the long waits. The breakfast options are pretty limited and I think that the prices are a bit steep. Can I have this for breakfast everyday? We stopped by early Sunday morning and were seated immediately. With some 70s/80s light r&b music setting the vibe (think songs like Sade), got a big cup of coffee (no refills?) and a big breakfast. There are variations you can get, scrambled vs poached, toast vs no toast, etc but they are all generously sized and very tasty semi-bowls. I thoroughly enjoyed this place. I was looking for something tasty but not necessarily heavy. I had the avocado toast with a poached egg, a side of bacon and a fresh start drink and it was all just perfect. My sister in law and teenaged daughter were with me as well and they equally enjoyed their meals. It was so good that we went back the next morning. It's always good when things are good twice in a row. I would STRONGLY recommend adding yourself to the online waitlist about 1.5-2 hours before you plan on arriving. This place is small and popular and the wait can be very long. For a table of 4, we were on the waitlist for about 2 hours, but I will say I think it was worth. I chose the big breakfast platter and wow wee; everything tasted so fresh and healthy, and it was such a large, filling meal. The tomato jam is to die for! Some of my friends got the French toast and they easily rank it in top three best they've ever had. I didn't try it cause I was stuffed, but from their descriptions, the batter (?) was perfectly distributed throughout the bread. The Nutella was a worry cause of the sweetness it could add (in combination with the syrup) but it actually added a much needed bitterness to cut the sweet syrup. This place is a nice place to come to during the week because we were seated right away and it was pretty empty. It's nice and fresh inside so it's a good pit stop, although the restroom was so stuffy and humid. I most likely wouldn't not come back because of the prices and flavor here. I ordered a takeout and ate at the nearby park (Washington square park) just cause it was nice out. I ordered the greens salad with salmon. I loved it, it was really good! The kale was not bitter at all and they seasoned it enough to where it would mask that bitter taste. Usually with kale you'd taste the bitterness but I didn't taste that on this one. The quinoa added to it was good and was portioned well imo. It wasn't like, a lot where it would take up the whole box but good enough to complement the rest of the ingredients. The salmon, was really good as well. There was limited indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating had a covering, but the "walls" were open to the elements. I ordered the mushroom wrap. The wrap did not have much mushroom and the more I ate it, the less I seemed to like it. I was not sure why, but the flavor started to taste off. The fries that came with it were typical and a little less crispy than I would like. The portion sizes are pretty small for price of the food. Because it was pouring out, while most of the rain stayed off of us, the sides of the outdoor seating collected water and threatened to spill over onto the benches that were connected to it.
