I consider myself a picky sushi eater. I'll travel all over Denver to eat at specific places. I'm thankful I can add this place to the top of my list. They have a 100 different rolls! My wife and I randomly picked two: Birthday Roll (#63) & Suzy Roll (#61). The Birthday roll was amazing and huge! Suzy Roll was a typical sushi roll made to perfection. I am going to break this down. I have been to Bonzai many times and I truly love it...although it is very far away from where I live in the Northern part of the Denver Metro area. The Food is amazing! I love it. Each time I come in I order a new roll. I absolutely love the nitro sauce!!! I wish I could take that and have it at home!!!! The ingredients are always fresh and the rice is always cooked amazing. The service has been good and it has been bad. I have experienced the managers/owners talking with people and going to tables to chat, but never coming by our table. The family atmosphere is great...but not if your not a part of the family. LOL The last time our waitress was horrible. She just laid our food down and left, and our drinks never got filled. It was hard to get her attention to get us napkins or more nitro sauce. It is like things there are going in the wrong direction. The place is small and crammed. They need to expand. When it is busy it is like we are all crammed into this can like a bunch of sardines...not very pleasurable. One time we were in the back corner by the bar and the person at the bar was practically sitting on our table. It is ridiculous. read more

Banzi Sushi has such a variety of rolls, it's so hard to make a decision. This sushi is excellent. It's so fresh. It's always busy, the parking lot is always full and for good reason. The prices are great for such quality of sushi, very affordable. The service is always super friendly. A perfectly fine, a-okay sushi spot. The roll selection was overwhelming but amusing- I like how they break the rolls down into categories such as "fish on top", "most popular", and "cooked." We opted for the first roll on the menu to save time, and it was delicious, however the thai roll was a little too conflicted in terms of flavors. Very tasty salmon and white tuna nigiri! Gyoza and miso soup was pretty ordinary. The salad... well to put it bluntly, the salad looked like several gentlemen had pleasured themselves all over it. It was absolutely drenched in some kind of semi-transparent, gelatinous liquid. My boyfriend was bold enough to actually try it, and said it was pretty awful. And let me tell you, that man eats everything in sight. Service was good, and our waitress didn't give us attitude for sending back our salads (I have a feeling that happens often). The restaurant itself is way cramped and super tiny. I might go back to try more nigiri and rolls if I'm in the neighborhood, however I'll make sure to stay away from the kitchen food. read more

The food is even better than I remember! I've not been in for a while since we hotel at the office now and therefore do not get to the Cherry Creek/Glendale area very often. The food is fresh, looks and tastes great. I've always enjoyed their sushi. Today I had a customizable bento box where you can pick your main protein from 8 or so options. Fried oysters! It even came complete with a chocolate wonton. That was a new treat for me. Great for lunch or dinner. You can get in and out for lunch efficiently. If you are more about great rolls when it comes to your sushi, this is a great place for a wonderful selection of rolls. Tiny place with a cozy atmosphere, but sadly, the service really does need to improve. I made my second visit here & it was a doozy. First time I had slow service, but not to the point of feeling like I was getting ignored. With the 2nd visit I sat for almost 10 minutes at the sushi bar before anyone brought over a menu for me to order, and further delay in actually getting the order in. Then I was given 1/2 my order & a bit later the other half except it wasn't what I ordered. I sat to close to 15 minutes waiting on the rest of my food & flagged a server down to ask if they could check on the rest of my order as it started to seem it was entirely overlooked. The roll came out a few minutes later. After the roll, I stacked up my plates in front of me, clearly ready to go, & sat & sat...another 15 minutes go by. I seriously felt like I was on a joke show or something. Zero service. Literally my waitress handed my sushi sheet to the chef (which I could have done since I was at the bar) & came to collect my money. I know it was noticed how long I had been sitting around there, as well as the situation with my food, but no one working there did anything about it, except that I did get a "thank you for your patience" when my money was being collected. All that said, I do find the staff here nice, just not fully attentive or up on good customer service, and the food is tasty; they need more people working or staff better suited for waiting on several tables at once. I'm amazed at the number of divergent reviews here! Been going to Banzai for well over twenty years. Have always felt comfortable here. Parking is easy to get and it's not located in a bad part of town. The fish has always been very fresh and the rolls are not only too numerous to mention, many are absolutely delicious. The service can be a little inconsistent but if I mention an issue to the manager, the so- called problem is quickly resolved. There are good people here and they need to know without any doubt that taking care of the customer is crucial to their success. read more

This is probably the dozenth or so time that I have eaten here and I will definitely return again. I love sushi, but my husband is less adventurous about totally raw. Their menu has over a 100 rolls on it, many that are fried or have cooked components, so it is a win for us as a couple. I also LOVE their handrolls - so delicious. One other plus is that they will allow reservations for small parties - meaning we dont have to wait forever for a table. I also like the location and ample parking. When I am not feeling up to hiking around downtown in the cold or waiting for an hour for a table for two on a holiday or Friday night (ah hem Sushi Den) this is where we hit up. The service can be fantastic, or as it was last night and on two or three prior occasions, terrible. Wrong sushi brought out twice, the waitress maybe said two words the whole time, ran away from the table before we could order miso, salads, or edamame. No offer for another drink. No offer for dessert. Card swiped at table and tip selected on a machine while said terrible waitress hovers and intimidates you. read more

This has become my one of regular sushi places in town. It's friendly rather than swanky and the location is well...not what you would call the coolest area being right on Leetsdale, but the the fish is good here, everything is fresh and flavorful. The wait staff often seems a little rushed here and sometimes drop the ball. Also, the prices are on the high side for the normal menu but they do have a great happy hour. In fact, they even have a happy hour on Saturdays although it's not listed on the website. You may have to specifically request the happy hour menu though. There are some things I'm not crazy about though. Tonight (a wintry night) we had the misfortune of shivering in a booth by a side door. They insisted on having it propped open and although half the restaurant was hunkered down in sweaters or coats, we had to either shut it ourselves or request that it be closed several times before it stayed shut. Also, they use these mobile credit card scanners to run your card at the table when paying your bill. On the nice side, you don't have to wait for the waiter to return with a card and bill to sign but on the down side, you feel pressured to tip large because your waiter is hovering there while you enter a dollar amount. My wife calls it the "intimidation machine". I'm generally a solid tipper but I like the freedom to let my tip reflect the service if it's not that great an experience. Visited Banzai sushi due to Yelp reviews while visiting Denver again. If you like rolls, you'll really like this place. Huge selection and they are mostly pretty good. The Hawaiian roll was good (may have been called something like Aloha). The non-rice rolls were not very well done, it didn't have all the ingredients as listed, was deep fried and fully cooked, which was not mentioned in the description. Other rolls had large numbers of ingredients, but flavor wise was not revolutionary. The price is actually a bit high for my expectations, but I think in Denver it would be considered reasonable. Basic sashimi and non-roll sushi felt overpriced. $21.95 for basic sashimi is pretty high when their rolls (which are large) are between 8 and 10 dollars. Drinks are reasonably priced. Overall, I would probably not come again as I don't love rolls as much as good high quality fish, but for roll lovers this would be at least 4 stars. Basic decor, and service level is poor; not in the sense of rude, but rather they are not professional servers. A grandmother and an older lady (likely owners / family), they can't give any recommendations, comment on your order, they don't explain anything on your platter and must be waved down for further service (drinks, dessert, etc.). 2 star service. read more

Doing my homework ahead of time, and learning that this place is consistently voted the "Best Sushi in Denver", I was going in with high expectations. BTW, that violates my own rule of setting expectations low then being pleasantly surprised. In Banzai's case expectations were met, but not exceeded. Having 100 varieties of rolls to choose from probably earns them one of the 4 stars. We went here on business travel and had no trouble getting a table at 6pm on a Tuesday night. I had the chef's choice dinner special "A" and a Super Banzai roll. All was delicious and well prepared. The wasabi was a little on the mild side. The pieces of nigiri did not cheat on size and the roll was an explosion of flavor from the several species it includes. The miso also was quite good. See my other reviews for sushi credentials. This place is a solid 4-star establishment. You can tell they are family operated and authentic. There are Japanese cooked alternatives for the sushi wanna-bees-but cant-dos. Pros: menu variety, authenticity, flavor, miso, service all excellent Cons: Over priced for what you get. Standard 2-piece nigiri a la carte orders range from $5-$8, so go with the chef specials and the rolls. read more

I have been here a couple of times with my wife and we have always enjoyed the food. The service is good and the ambiance is comfortable. My wife is from Japan so she likes that fact that Banzai is Japanese owned instead of Korean like so many sushi restaurants. I love the way everything is set up, it is not a big place but they make good use of their space. I would however, suggest you get there early because it fills up fast. The last time I was there I got the chef's special and it was absolutely delicious. the sushi portions were a good size and when I was done I was actually full. The price is right, not to expensive but not so cheep you wonder about the quality of the fish. I would recommend this place to any sushi lover knowing they would be satisfied. read more

This place is great! Yes, the staff can seem stoic (which may account for some of the negative reviews below) but extremely quick and helpful. We loved LOVED the sweet corn patties (can't remember the right name) and pork pot stickers. The sushi was the best I've had in Denver. The vast selections are creative and incredibly tasty. The staff is nimble and accommodating: On one selection, I asked to substitute 3 of the ingredients (don't ask) - they did without hesitation. I'm very surprised this place gets bad reviews. I just want to start off by saying that I've been coming to Banzai since 2011 when I moved from Connecticut to Denver. I've eaten a lot of sushi around metro Denver area including Sushi Den and I have to say, this place is the best. My boyfriend is from New Hampshire and we know fresh seafood and we go here at least once a month. It's locally own and operated. The chefs are actually Japanese. They have many hand rolls that I enjoy. I love their yellowfin tuna. The services have gotten better since they've hired more younger people who carry conversations. read more

Love love LOVE this place! I had a craving for sushi and some Christmas money to blow and remembered that a friend had recommended this place when we first moved here in April. The prices were comparible to Sushi Den but with so many more options we decided to give it a shot. We are late eaters and didn't show up until about 9pm. Their menu is AMAZING and we didn't realize they were about to close the kitchen (9:30). Everyone was super nice and were joking with us. We told them it was our first time and apologized for taking so long to order. They told us to stay as long as we wanted and that they wanted us to enjoy our dinner. We got 4 rolls and some saki. Food here is awesome. I like the large selection. Service however... One person kept hovering and refilling our waters whenever there was more than two drinks gone from our glass. They also snached up empty plates as soon as the last bit of food was being lifted off them. The other person (our waitress) disappeared for up to 20 mintues. We have eaten here many times. The sushi is consistently good be it the nigiri or the myriad of rolls they offer. The service is also consistently okay. Nothing is exceptional about Banzai but there is a lot to be said for consistency. Why the mediocre review? My husband and I went here to eat the other day after searching through yelp reviews we chose it. We sat at the bar. The owner came over to help us choose the best rolls and fish to have. We had the hula roll, the yellow tail with jalapeno, white tuna, a seaweed salad and a Mark San Roll We also ordered Fuji apple sake and a Sapporo beer. Everything was delicious and fresh. It is a perfect casual restaurant to go for really good sushi and none of the extra fancy fluff that some of the other restaurants in town provide. The price was also very good :) read more

Banzai definitely has a great, creative sushi menu-that said, the freshness of the sushi left a lot to be desired the night we were there, so I feel like there are other places in Denver you can go for less creativity but much better product. Also, the service is a big drawback-we waited for everything from being greeted to ordering to getting our check, and looking around the restaurant,it seemed everyone was getting the same service. My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time on Christmas Eve since I was craving sushi and we were sadly disappointed. I forget the exact names of the rolls we ordered but mine had no mention of spice and yet I could taste a jalapeño-like flavor in every bite. Additionally, the variety tempura I got had a weird selection of vegetables and was not fried to a nice golden brown. Furthermore, my boyfriend got food poisoning from his order. Our very favorite sushi place in the Denver area. So many great rolls. I love the drum roll with asparagus and lemon zest(granted, not very authentic). I never know when there will be a huge wait, so this isn't a place where we meet friends. If you're okay with the sushi bar, my husband and I have never waited for a table and slid right in. The prices are very low for this sort of food and the quality is very high. Darn...now I want sushi. read more
