I was a bit nervous to try this place given the measly 3.5 star rating here, but man did this place hit the spot. I had the nigiri combo and it was delicious, and actually had wasabi between the fish and rice which is more rare than it should be. The house salad that came with was just okay, but the miso soup was great. Mom had two of the rolls and she thought both were delish. Also, the service here was fantastic. I really really wanted to write a good review for this place, and I'm not the type of person that writes bad reviews, but I hope this will be a learning experience overall. The restaurant was busy, I will say that. It took a little time for someone to get our drink order. We then ordered a Banzai dynamite roll, a nut roll, teriaky steak, and a crunch roll. 10 minutes in, I had to step out to take a phone call. When I got back (21 mins later) my dad had finished his steak dinner. I had assumed they packed my roll up and were ready to go. However, they had not brought any of our rolls. So we waited another 10 minutes before I asked if they could look into it. Once they realize we hadn't gotten our rolls they offered us some miso soup. They seemed like they were rushing things. My dynamite Roll was the last one to show up. When I looked at it, it looked like two different roles. The first half (top row) was just spicy crab meat and cucumber. The bottom half had crab stick and cream cheese. I asked the waiter if these were two different roles but he said that's how they make it maybe it didn't get distributed evenly. But it look like two different roles. One of the 10 pieces did not have any meat in it either. I then asked about the tempora crunch. Based on how I read the description on the menu, it made it sound like there would be a tempura shrimp in it. He then said that that was just another way for them explaining that it was fried even though on the lower half of the description it says whole roll is fried. Even if it is supposed to be tempura crunch there was no actual crutch crumbles on the roll. At the end they didn't even give us any orange slices. Overall the food was really tasty but how slow they were and how they made my roll is why it is such a low rating. I will post pictures to confirm these statements. read more

A good friend of mine and I came to this place after a long day of hanging out. I loved the traditional Japanese decor it had. We were greeted by the nice waitress. The menu had some interesting rolls. Together, we ordered about 4-5 rolls. She gave us a warm towelette before we ate our food, which was actually nice. Unfortunately, I can't remember all the sushi rolls we ordered. But everything we had was very delicious. We wanted to be adventurous and ordered a roll that actually had steak in it. Everything was very good. I wouldn't say, it blew my mind, but if you want decent and pretty delicious food, with a nice atmosphere and good service, come here. upon entering , was promptly greeted and sat. it was prime lunch time but place was sparsely occupied. why? it's been awhile since my last visit and appears to be updated which is a plus. lunch menu was easy to read and reasonable priced. I chose the simple California roll combo that came with tempura and fried desert. I added chicken teriyaki to the combo meal. Cali roll was very small, overly seasoned and this is where I got pissed off, the chicken. it was so tough and dry, I couldn't eat it. I have no idea where this piece of chicken breast came or how they cooked it, it was the worst I ever had. My lunch accomplice got the sashimi combo. looked very appetizing with generous portion and variety of fishes like octopus, salmon, tuna and two more. it was close to 10 pieces of large portion for $15. with soup and salad, definitely it was a great deal. however, I was told "not fresh'. at the end, sashimi lover got a stomach ache and spent some time in the bathroom while I left most of my leather chicken breast behind. sayonara and I will never be back again. read more

Genuine quality with amazing service! Off the beaten path and difficult to notice unless you're specially looking for it? Check. I've ordered a number of things from here and everything has been spectacular. Nabeyaki Udon, sushi rolls, and nirigi have been a staple of my visits. Each time I have been greeted by the sushi chefs behind the counter and also by a really nice hostess. If you haven't been here, now is a good time to go. Be aware of their hours so you don't show up 20 minutes early like I did last Saturday. I guess I was too excited but actually I had an eye appointment down the road. This place fills up quick so get here early. They do have a number of parking spots available so that's a big plus! read more

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!! Wow, what a terrible experience... I finally created a yelp account because this restaurant was THAT BAD... The location, terrible, it's located next to a gas station in a not-so-great area but they charge as if they were located in a prime spot downtown. The food leaves a lot to be desired... Nothing special about the food. We told our server we didn't want anything raw, so she made a couple suggestions, that we went with-the second thing she brought out was RAW!! When we pointed it out she just laughed and said "it's not bad right"...what???!! Who does that? My BIGGEST complaint is the service. The service was fine at first (except for the raw thing), until they saw we were paying with a gift card and they tried to tell us that we can't get happy hour prices if we use a giftcard...what?! So a $30 bill immediately became a $60 bill... My husband and I both had a giftcard and they would not let us use both because that was against their policy...again, what!? If you don't like people using giftcards, DON'T OFFER THEM!!! We will NEVER be going back to this restaurant... I LOVE this sushi place. I don't live in Colorado, but I visit every month or so for a couple of days. Stopping by here for a few rolls is a MUST and basically a ritual for me now. The service is good, the setting is nice and comfortable, and the sushi is delicious. I even like the Miso soup, which I usually don't at other places. The bansai roll and rainbow roll are my absolute favorites, and I order them every time. Can't wait for the next time I get to go there :). Last night my honey and I were in the neighborhood and were shopping for a late, light dinner. Banzai was the word that came to mind. Had saba, hamachi, ikura, a Thai roll and a large carafe of hot sake. The roll just didn't do it for me (the addition of sweet Thai chili overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients), but the sushi, as usual, was fresh and well done. Nice folks. Clean place. Good raw fish. This place looks like every average restaurant but their food is soo great. Right when u sit down they hand out nice hot wash cloths and disinfect wipes. And some restaurants bathrooms r gross but their bathrooms are nice and well cleaned. They serve tons of different sushi and lots of options for other foods. His dish came first and the rolls came so late, he was almost done with his chicken. The manager (I think he was the manager) did come by when we were first seated to see if we needed recommendations for sushi. So, that was nice. I came here specifically for the takoyaki! It's the only place around Denver area that I know of that makes takoyaki!! Taste is great. There's only 4 to an order. But each takoyaki is actually quite big. So I think it's well worth the price. I did a quick take out, but while waiting for the food to be made. The staff were very nice. Came over and offer me water, which I thought that was very thoughtful of them. Overall. The place is small, but has a nice quiet atmosphere where I think if you're going on a date or something can come to. Their menu also have a very wide range of sushi selection to chose from. This is a great place to grab some sushi for lunch. It seems so authentic when you come in. The dish-ware is awesome. The service is great as well. I came on a Monday this time, but I know during the week there can be a wait for lunch. I would call ahead. They also have places near the booth to hang your jacket or purse which I find to be really convenient. They have so many rolls its a bit absurd. If there's something in particular you like and don't see just ask. They usually have it. I always ask for white tuna and a salmon skin roll which neither are on the menu. I'm going to put up a photo of the hand roll. The lunch combo comes with soup and salad which is also nice. Today I got the sushi sashimi combo which came with both. The fish tasted great. I ordered a yellowtail collar which was also good. My mother ordered some Uni which came with quail eggs. She also doesn't like to eat carbs so she orders her hand rolls and everything else without rice. The chefs always happily prepare it the way she likes. I recommend this place. Then I found a really good one in downtown Denver called Mizu and they are exceptional but also very expensive. I also found an exceptional in Colorado Springs called Sushi Spot. Now I have found an exceptional, amazing super close to my house, so fresh, staff is so friendly and attentive, full liquor bar, not a big place which I prefer, and the menu is outstanding. The rolls are so yummy. The sashimi is so fresh and cold, the poke tuna is fantastic. They have an appetizer roll called The WOW roll and it's 2 pieces, has no rice omg we ordered it twice, it was that good. The other favorite is the mango tango, and the salmon flower because they present it to you shaped like a flower. Just food orgasm in my mouth LOL. Best prices ever too. My new favorite sushi place. Service was fair for the amount of servers they had working. We ordered the Gyoza appetizer (made with regular thin won ton wrappers rather than homemade dough), Rock N' Roll Roll (salmon and cream cheese was good), Rusty Roll (ok), Steve San 2 Roll (whole roll deep-fried cold and not crispy), and a Shrimp Tempura Roll (shrimp tempura cold and not crispy). Wanted to try a new sushi spot and this place had good reviews, and the photos of the food looked good, so decided to give it a try. Got the gyoza and calamari appetizer. The gyoza was nothing special just average (nothing wrong with that) but the calamari was a really stingy portion only 4 calamari rings come in an order and they were extremely overcooked and rubbery to the point that when I bit into it, it wouldn't break apart the whole ring came out of the breading. The batter was bland so I didn't care for them. I tried the white tuna sashimi which was good, the shrimp tempura which was good but nothing special again, the spicy tuna dynamite roll which was my fave, and my boyfriend ordered the chicken udon soup which he thought was mediocre as did I. So all in all everything was just ok here and for just ok food it was over priced in my opinion, but I expect that for the area. Just wish for the prices the food would have tasted better. My go to for sushi is normally Hasu, but I decided to try something closer to where I live and came across Banzai on Yelp. The parking lot is fairly small, but big enough to be able to find somewhere to park. The inside is pretty spacious and we got greeted as soon as we came in. The service is extremely friendly and made sure we were taken care of right away, from being seated to getting our orders taken! I was a little overwhelmed at how huge the menu is! There's just too much going on! I kid you not, there are probably over 40 different kinds of rolls to choose from! My boyfriend ordered the chirashi and I got a couple of hand rolls. We also ordered agadashi tofu as an appetizer. The chirashi came with miso soup and salad. Miso soup was good, but I was not a fan of the salad dressing. The chirashi was presented nicely, but barely included any of the good stuff. There were maybe five pieces of sashimi and the rest was imitation crab kind of stuff. The rolls that I ordered were pretty good, but they were kind of small. The agadashi tofu was probably my favorite thing. All in all, I think that it is slightly overpriced for the portions and quality. I would still go back and be interested in trying different things, but only if I wanted to get sushi close to where I live. read more

This place is my absolute favorite place to go and get sushi in Denver. It's affordable and always tastes amazing. There are SO many rolls to choose from and I still haven't found one that I don't like. It's a small restaurant so either get there early or make a reservation. There's usually always room at the sushi bar. My favorite roll is the cherynobyll and green Phoenix but you can't go wrong with whatever you get there!
