    Italian sandwich, wrapped
    Calder S.

Bar Americano is a breath of fresh air on the National Mall, miles better than any other eateries there. It had ample outdoor seating, serves alcohol, and has a large, mostly breakfast-oriented menu. It has a few downsides, like no bathroom, closing early (6 PM), and limited non-breakfast options. I visited recently on a weekday afternoon. I had the Italian Sandwich ($12) and a bottle of "fizzy red" ($45 on their online menu, $50 IRL). I debated between pizza and a sandwich. The sandwich was okay but also disappointing. The bread was very good, but there was not enough filling -- the ratios were wrong, so it ended up being too bready. The wine was fine. There was plenty of seating available. Staff at the counter was friendly and brought my sandwich to me. I would maybe have stayed longer and ordered more, but they closed at 6 PM.

I've been dying to try Bar Americano because it's such a cute/cool concept! I've never had pizza or drinks from Sonny's or Doubles so it was full experimental for me. The pizza isn't bad, not my favorite but I'm not a deep dish pizza girl anyways. I had a cider from Lost Boy that was great and a matcha that was good too. The people working the stand are so sweet even with large crowds flocking to them. I never felt rushed or dissatisfied. I'll definitely be back!

Great addition to the Mall. We went for a breakfast sandwich on a Saturday and stayed for a slice of pizza and chocolate chip cookie. The pizza was good, but the egg and cheese sandwich was excellent. We added the bacon, chili oil, and tomato jam as recommended. It was so good we kept talking about it the next day. They use the same base as their pizza for the sandwich and every thing is perfect. We will definitely be back for a glass of wine and pizza another day.

The National Mall is void of quality bites and drinks...until now. From the people behind a popular D.C. cafe and pizzeria comes Bar Americano. Open on weekends inside a historic kiosk near the Air and Space Museum is a cafe that sells lattes, wine, beer, hard cider, and food items. Surrounding the kiosk are plenty of tables to enjoy your food and drink and/or a good book. Parking can be tough to find on weekends, so try to take public transportation.

Had a delightful lunch of Caesar salad and pepperoni pizza. Was a perfect spot to go after the capital. It even rained and we were able to stay dry.

What keeps me coming back time and time again are their double-fried tostones. The texture and flavor is absolutely insane, and the sauce it comes with is to die for. I've also tried their Cuban sandwich, which is hot, melty, and scrumptious. The shop itself is bright and modern, and even has a small outdoor patio section. I will definitely be back when I have more shows at The Wharf in DC!

The staff seemed a bit overburdened trying to keep up with orders and get everything out in time. That said, the young man and woman who prepared my order were kind and very focused on doing their best. I definitely plan to return and give them another try under less hectic conditions. This location is an entire vibe. It's tucked down a painted alley that leads you to a side entrance, which I actually preferred over the front. Parking is what it is at the Wharf, but I recommend parking near the museum and walking over. Once inside, you're met with gorgeous decor and a thoughtfully designed space that feels like a Spanish-style bar set in nature. The tile, the color palette, and the food and drink options all come together beautifully. I ordered the Carrot Cake Con Leche, which came out to about $8 after tax. It was tasty and a great treat after my morning run. It did take about 15 to 20 minutes to receive my order, but given how busy it was, that felt understandable. I'm looking forward to returning and experiencing it at a calmer time.

We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.

Their iced Vietnamese latte is pretty good during the summer time... and I've also tried hot Vietnamese latte, which is alright and pretty much an average taste. They usually have a rotating flavor for latte specials such as matcha latte or elderberry matcha latte for example. They are not too bad and just unique. But I'd settle down for a regular latte instead of being adventurous on different tasting from this coffee shop. Alternative milk costs about extra $0.75 if you desire something more than just milk in your latte, just for your information. Service is quick and simple. The barista recommended whole milk (or non-dairy milk) since it doesn't take away from the elderberry and matcha flavors as much as non-dairy milk, and I completely agreed! The elderberry syrup popped through the matcha and it wasn't too sweet! The drink overall was very enjoyable and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. I'm glad I stopped by to give this cafe a try this past Saturday afternoon.
