I wanted Italian food after class so I wanted to come here. I actually tried coming here twice - the first time the line was too long and it looked packed. Until I stepped in the bar, I didn't realize that this is a stand-up bar -- a bar with no seats. I was mindblown. I love the concept and always have. Some of coffee places I like adopt this. I'm literally "on my feet" and it suits me. I was standing right across the grill so I saw pasta and calamari getting cooked. I ordered the Penne Amatriciana. It was alright. The penne was a little hard and the sauce just tasted alright. It then struck me that this is a bar, and everyone was having wine for a reason. I had FOMO so I ordered a glass of red wine. It tasted normal but having wine standing up was an experience. The dim lighting also helped the bar seem romantic. Too bad I came here alone. It's a cute place. Wine is just nighttime coffee. Finally tried this place after years of neglect. I live very close by, so it really should not have taken so long. It is easy to miss when walking up and down 7th Avenue, so you have to be on the lookout. A place with standing room only, Bar B has a fairly decent wine selection, and a few beers, but the star is really the food. You'll probably gaze in wonderment how cheap everything on the food menu is. However, it really is only like 2-3 bites of food. Yet, those bites are all really tasty. We got the steak, the fried chicken, and the octopus. The octopus was chopped up, but still very tender, and the crunch of the vegetables it came with was a good contrast to the slightly chewy octopus. The fried chicken was tasty, and came with the sauteed scallion on top, but was pretty much like 2 small chicken fingers. The steak was probably the best dish of them all, as it was a perfect medium rare, and was likely the most filling out of all dishes. That being said, everything was pretty well-executed, and again, while you might not feel completely satiated by the end of everything, it is all very tasty. Service is pretty attentive, since it's such a small place, but sometimes you need to wave them down if you want a refill on your drink. The prices, again, are pretty low for food, which allows you to try a lot of different things, but remember that you do get what you pay for. Definitely worth it during happy hour prices, but perhaps just decent value at other times. Overall, a solid place for casual drinks and small snacks. It's a little hard to stay longer than an hour and a half, as you have to stand the entire time, but still a pretty good spot to catch up with a friend. This food at this place was just so good that I didn't even mind having to stand the whole time (it is standing bar only). The chef fires everything up in front of you and the service is very quick. I had three different tapas and each was stellar. The space is small so it is good to go with one other friend or on a date. They also serve drinks. Dare I call Bar B a hidden gem? Feels underrated for sure. The lack of seating forces you to be quick about your business, but its a great spot for a quick catchup over a glass of wine and some bar snacks. Great wine selection by the glass (and surprisingly, a couple of sake options!) and the food menu looked delicious as well. We opted for simply prosciutto and olives, both of which were great (prosciutto is freshly sliced) though the portions were small...but can't really knock it for the price. Bar B is a small, intimate spot in Chelsea where you definitely get more than what you bargained for. It's an unassuming location with no seating, but the interior is cozy and inviting, with a familiar menu that fits the neighborhood pretty well. They have a surprising selection of wines by the glass, and although I wasn't a particular fan of the Pinot Noir, it's nothing I can really knock the place for. The prosciutto board we ordered was freshly sliced, and the olives were incredibly flavorful, making for a pretty refreshing pit stop on our way to our final destination. One Again, Yelp to the rescue. After a long day of traveling running away from #irma, this spot caught my eye for a late night snack. Bar B is a standing bar, meaning, you won't have a chair to seat while enjoying your meal. This is a very informal dinning experience, however, don't you get discouraged by this small detail as they food is extraordinary and so is the wine selection. Besides their interesting menu of tapas, they also have daily specials. You place your order and can watch how they make your food (again, place is really small). I ordered the Spanish octopus salad. This was very refreshing as its served cold and has a touch of celery . It goes perfect with a glass of white wine if you ask me. I also ordered their seasonal grilled vegetables with ricotta. I wasn't that crazy about he ricotta cheese on it but the veggies where very yummy and definitely tasty. Again, so many good things to try here. I ended up ordering their shrimp and musroomh risotto which was part of their daily specials. That one as a winner ! I really enjoyed eating here. As the phrase suggests, this place doesn't have any stools. You're standing the whole time. Eat, drink, and stand. This is my go-to spot for dining alone, which is what I do when my wife and kids are out of town. There's something about standing up and eating alone that is superior to sitting down at a table and eating alone. Probably because there's not an empty seat across from you announcing to the world that you're dining alone, inviting gossipy folks to jump to conclusions about you. I just keep going, walking around the entire block before looking in again to see if space has opened up. I probably don't want to know what other patrons have thought after seeing me loop by the restaurant for the eighth time, peering in, looking hopeful, then disappointed, then moving on, only to return six minutes later to do the same thing. Perhaps one of them went home to write a heartfelt screenplay about a man too timid to enter a restaurant. Don't know. Don't care, unless John Hamm plays me. At some point, space frees up and I do go in and order. The service is always good, primarily because the waiter is never more than seven feet away. The food has been consistently delicious. Found this weird spot (see below) after finding a deal on Groupon and then seeing Yelp reviewd it as 4.5*. That's a crazy good rating for a restaurant! I read some of the Yelp reviews and saw it was standing room only, but had a different image in my mind. Instead of it being a space with some tables (what I pictured), it's a long narrow space with simply, a bar. It reminded me of a typical espresso bar in Italy, which is awesome. It was empty when we came in at 11:30pm on a Sunday night, but the guys behind the counter had no problem making us some food still. It was way more casual than we thought it would be, but as we ate our meal we realized it was a really unique NYC spot and would be a great date spot before or after going to another bar. I had the flank steak plate and got them to sub in pickled vegetables (not pickles as the menu said) for the potato salad. For $9, it was a great value and definitely a nice tapa, though not filling enough for a meal. Obviously. My friend Dan had the beef croquette and a pasta dish. I tried both and both were pretty good. I wouldn't order the pasta, but Dan loved it and talked about coming back to get it again. Loved Bar B. We came here on a Thursday night and I think we got lucky because we got a space at the counter and it was not crowded. Everything we ordered was individually made and delicious. We got the skirt steak with potato salad (perfect, sans horseradish), mussels, calamari with broccoli rabe, branzino, and herb crusted scallops. Our favorite was definitely the skirt steak, with the branzino coming in a close second. Drinks were also quite good... I got the rose and finished off with a sangria. We also ordered the chestnut creme brûlée which was so good I was tempted to order a second. In addition to the delicious food, the staff was super friendly. No seats and it's one small and narrow strip of the bar. Inner decor is filled with wood and you're greeted by friendly staff. They have a wide selection of alcohol and they have surprisingly really good tapas. They have a slew of options - seafood, meat - that are all small plates. The chef cooks it up for you as it is an open kitchen and the food comes out fresh. You can't go wrong with any of the options. We came here on a Wednesday night and it was mostly full with regulars. It's a great casual date spot. It's quaint, small, and the drinks are simple and good. If I lived on the west side, Bar B would be my regular spot to go to. read more

Rounding up from a 3.5 here. This tiny, and I mean TINY, spot has only standing bar room down a narrow hallway. They were already out of some of the dishes by the time we got there. So we settled on the scallop crudo, grilled squid, and the steak. The seafood dishes were interesting. I appreciated the effort to create different flavors, but I personally didn't love either dish, purely personal preference. I came here because I was waiting for friends to hop on the train and looked for somewhere close by to have a drink. This place had the highest yelp review so I thought I would check it out. I didn't expect what I saw. It is absolutely tiny. There are no seats, basically you stand leaning on the bar from which you order. Down one long hallway. They have wine and 3 types of beer so if you're looking for variety or a cocktail this isn't the place. I decided to grab a sandwich while waiting because everyone there was so happily standing against the bar I figured there might be something to this place. The food was delicious. I had fries and a skirt steak sandwich. At first I thought the sandwich looked smaller than expected but I barely finished it and the quality was much more aligned with an upper scale restaurant. This really cozy (and when I say cozy, I mean TINY) bar does not have any seats but can stand about 10-12 people. I think standing is a good idea anyways, especially if you sit on your butt all day at work. Standing helps oxygen flow to your brain and prevents you from falling asleep. The food portions here are pretty much what you'd expect from a tapas bar. You certainly won't walk out of here feeling so stuffed that you hate yourself. Regardless, every plate is so good that you wish you ordered two or three of each. Standing Bars, or Tachinomiya, are small bars with no seating that serve izakaya foods. They are generally inexpensive and are the go to place for workers looking to grab bites and drinks after work. The menu isn't extensive but has something to satisfy everyone. From salads to apps to entrees and pastas, the bar stands out due to its simple menu execution, short turnaround and fantastic pricing. An average drink is $6 while the most expensive food item is $16 (uni risotto). Favorite of the night was definitely the skirt steak reduction. Delicious. Next time you visit, look up to the ceiling. So if you're looking to kick back after a long day in the city, this probably isn't the best choice, considering the fact you'll be standing for the whole duration of your dinner/drinks. Nonetheless the food is just phenomenal. I shared 3 dishes with a friend and had nothing but good things to say about each. This place was incredible and we found it on a fluke. We were in the Chelsea neighborhood for an art fare and looked up nearby places to eat afterward--what a find!! It's standing room only in a long room with a bar that you lean on. That also means, you would smell like fried calamari or bacon when you got out. Ladies, take notes: if you have another data hop to next, avoid. Tiny cozy corner in the big bad city... I found this place on Yelp and knew it would be small but was surprised at how tiny it actually was. If I wasn't looking for it, i wouldn't have even noticed it. The entire place is one long bar that wraps around the register, serving area, and kitchen with no chairs but plenty of hooks to put your things. The whole place could probably hold 12 people max. When i came in on a Monday night with a friend, the place looked fairly full but we were easily able to find a spot somewhere in the back near the kitchen area. We originally planned on staying for just a drink and going elsewhere for dinner, but the food smelled so good we changed our minds, and were glad we did. I ordered the rich and heavenly mushroom and prosciutto pasta dish, while my friend ordered the wonderfully seasoned ribs with fries. Given that these are described as Tapas, the portions weren't huge but i was still feeling pretty full after my meal. Definitely coming back to try the Uni (sea Urchin) dishes. Tips: - standing near the kitchen area gets very hot so choose your placement wisely - be prepared to wait a bit for your food. the small space only allows for 1 chef and a small kitchen setup - Happy hour is from 4pm-7pm - $5 glasses of house rose, white wine and red wine, and $4 for a certain beer - check the blackboard for a large list of specials that aren't on their standard menu. Best wine for $12 I've had in a really really long time.
