Small, only a couple of tables and the booth we sat in the back is made of wood and was uncomfortable. Doesn't seem like they can fit parties more than 5/6 (6 if you squeeze in booth). Been here twice now and there are definitely some pluses, but also some negatives. The negatives don't make it a stay away, but definitely be prepared for it to make the most of your experience. First and foremost, seating is VERY tight. Besides one booth style table they have near the bathroom, the seats are fairly tight. Service is great when they aren't overly busy. However, be prepared to flag down as needed during peak times as they may overlook your table in the chaos. Staff is friendly and helpful, just not as attentive. Food is fairly good, but quality seems to have dropped off since being here (approx year ago). The artichoke salad was fairly nice but needed more of a tang/punch in flavor. Honestly just ask for. Some lemon wedges and allow the acid to help balance out the salad. Gambas al ajillo is done well compared to most places. The shrimp isn't overcooked and the oil/broth is balanced in terms of flavor with adequate garlic and herbs. Accompanied bread leaves a lot to be desired (very dry/almost stale) Dishes pictured were good but nothing "amazing". Once again, missing some basic seasoning/punch to bring out the flavors a bit more. The croquetas will be a toss up. They are super creamy and tasty but the amount of actual meat (or veggies) inside will be enough or completely lacking. Essentially no consistency in the filling. Wine selection has enough variety to compliment the menu but lacks depth in terms of flavor. You'll likely find something if you prefer lighter options, but not much in terms of full bodied options. Cocktails seem basic. Nothing that stands out but enough to get the job done (G&T, old fashioned, etc) if you're in the mood for a cocktail. I've been wanting to go to Tia Pol ever since I moved to NYC earlier this year as it came highly recommended from a former colleague when she heard I'd be living in Chelsea. It's true that in the winter it's cold every time the door opens and closes, but I think that's a reasonable price to pay to be able to dine here without a reservation. It's not like the door is constantly open. Cute spot that would be great for a date. Tia Pol was lovely on a recent Friday night. I went with my girlfriend a mutual friend, the latter of whom had found this restaurant on Yelp. Our reservation landed us at a charming table outside, and we ordered a pitcher of sangria while browsing the menu. Long story short, we got almost dozen plates of food, sharing amongst ourselves while moaning with food pleasure. I was particularly impressed with one of the specials, skewers of octopus and chorizo, grilled nicely and full of flavor. I also enjoyed the croquettes and the skirt steak. The charcuterie options are a safe bet. Jamon Serrano and sliced chorizo are served alongside bread topped with a tomato sauce that tasted just a little like squash. My friend liked the bread so much we ordered a second board just to get more; we ate the meat too, of course. There were a couple of dishes that didn't quite blow me away: the octopus and white bean salad, and the fried fish nuggets. (I don't remember the fancy names and I'm too lazy to look it up.) Considering how much food we ordered, it makes sense that not all of it would hit the same. Service was good considering how busy they were. I am a big fan of these in general so I have had my fair share and these were up there in terms of my favorite. They had the perfect amount of flaky sea salt and were blistered to perfection. The shrimp and garlic with olive oil was by far the best thing we tasted. Shrimp were tasty and the waiter brought us bread to dip in the sauce and I'm sure glad he did. We ate two plates of bread with the sauce alone, it was that good!!! We ended up having to get another order of the lamp skewers because they were so good. The flavor and cook was on point and the blend of spices it was rubbed with made all the difference. The squid was alright... I wished it had a little bit more flavor to it, but I still enjoyed it. The croquetas were good, just veryyyyy creamy and I was wishing there was more seasoning. However, for being my least favorite dish, it wasn't bad at all.
