This place is very cute and definitely worth a stop. It's a standing room only tapas bar with a wide variety of foods from Chinese and Italian to Vegan. It's tiny so everything is made right in front of you and the food is great. They also serve alcohol so this place is popular for both lunch and late night bites. Love the fact that it can't fit a lot of my fellow New Yorkers in the space as the people who come there do so alone, or to meet a friend or two for good drink and food, and then take their nonsense elsewhere. A unique and delicious dining experience. There are no chairs so you stand at a lovely, reclaimed wooden bar. The menu is Spanish-style small plates, but the flavors had varied geographic influence. Wine: It is not an extensive list, but it isn't necessary. The woman, Marie, was knowledgeable about the list, let us try the two we were deciding between, and ultimately helped us pick exactly what we wanted. Olives: What can you say? $2 for 8, fantastic price and large, sweet, green gems. Mixed grilled vegetables with anchovies: A beautiful assortment of freshly grilled veg (three types of tomato, leek, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, etc.) and four anchovies. Simple. The natural ingredients were let to speak for themselves. Skirt steak with potato salad: Wow. This one woman with a small exposed grill created a perfectly tender, well-seasoned rare delicacy out of a simple cut of skirt steak. It came with a green sauce that complemented the flavors of the meat wonderfully. The potato salad was more like cold mashed potatoes with corn and cucumber. Not the best part of the meal and I might ask for a different accompaniment next time, but it was a unique take on the idea so try it for yourself once. One of the best parts of the experience was the interaction with the folks behind the counter. We came here as the second course to a longer evening, and at first wanted to continue our own conversation without being bothered with "counter-service" pleasantries. Our privacy was fully respected and we felt just as alone at this small bar as we had in a back both earlier that night. But as we were continually blown away by the quality of the food, we wanted to know their story and suddenly it was like having a conversation with old friends. Each person who worked there was incredibly friendly and made us feel like regulars. After last night, we know we will be! One tiny side issue, the bar was kind of brightly lit. I had the pleasure of stumbling into this place one hazy day in June and fell. in. love. The space has great energy that I felt immediately, not to mention a delicious menu! Bar B is a neighborhood gem with great and innovative food, a great atmosphere, and a warm lovely staff that makes you want to come back everyday. The food is absolutely wonderful and made with great care. The kale tempura is so incredibly tasty and the octopus dishes (I had the pleasure of tasting the warm octopus salad and squid ink croquettes but there are many more) are wonderful. We came for happy hour (4-7 pm everyday) where there is $1 off all drinks and decided to come back for dinner. The kitchen is open until 2 am which makes it a great place to catch up with friends before and/or after dinner. The setup is a lovely stand up bar with no seating that really works for the style of the restaurant and encourages meeting people. Bar B is truly a place you can visit over and over again. The food was presented simply yet it looked very pretty and colorful. But ultimately, I think it looked better than it tasted. The potato salad was decent, it was soft and smooth, and I think had the faint taste of tarragon. The skirt steak was more salty than I liked and I wasn't too fond of the marinade used on it. There were a few leaves of bitter raddichio under the meat. The red pickled cabbage was ok, rather tart but crisp. The pickled cauliflower was crunchy and almost vinegary as well. The octopus was too soft and overcooked, not chewy at all. It was paired with a colorful mix of cubed peppers, celery, and cooked kidney beans. The mix gave a good small crunch to the dish but didn't add much flavor. The cuttlefish was white, soft and slightly chewy and potatoes with spears of green asparagus and green beans. It was slightly better than the octopus. Bar B is a small, standing place dominated by the bar. You can watch the chefs at work while eating small plates and drinking wine or beverages. But I think the food doesn't live up to it's presentation. read more

At the risk of sounding like I came from the past, this place is so hip. Have been here twice already and had a great meals both times. This standing only tapas style bar is very small but the food they make is really good. I couldn't decide on which glass of white wine to have so I asked for recommendations and they were able to let me try a few different ones until I decided on one which I think is great. Not many places at this price point will let you sample 3 different wines before deciding. The skirt steak and pasta are really good deals! They also have specials that aren't on their set menu so look out for those on the chalk board. The only problem is that I'm a petite person (4'11") so the bar table became a little difficult to dine at after awhile but I'd still go back no matter what. I've converted the boyfriend to this place as well and he's the one that suggests to come back when we can't decide where to eat. read more

It is a really unique spot as it's a mix between america, Korean, and Italian food. They have happy hour here where wines are $5 (normally $8). We weren't able to get the discount since we had a voucher. But we tried a red and a Pinot Grigio which were both nice. There is standing room only. No stools, chairs or seating of any kind. They do have hook to place your coat/bag/purse. The young Asian hipster behind the bar looked completely out of it. No greeting or semblance of small talk (we were the only ones in the place). I even tried to make conversation ('hey what would you recommend between the skirt steak sandwich and croquette sandwich.'....nada) We tried the cheese croquette ($5) which was fresh and tasty. Gooey and delicious. For the lunch entree I got the skirt steak (with a side salad) ($9) and the hubby got the fuscilli (corkscrew pasta) with pesto and walnut ($9). Both dishes were amazing! Fresh and fantastic flavor. It tasted like they just made everything from scratch. I like the vibe of this place, with the cork ceiling and standing area bar it is very laid back urban chic. I was excited to try this place out based on the reviews. I love the concept of the standing room only and I'm always up for trying a little something different. The happy hour specials are super good! $5 glasses of select wines, you really cannot go wrong there. I think for me the food fell a bit short. There were 4 of us. I was not impressed at all with the fried shrimp, the pizza's although VERY tasty were about the size of a tea saucer, the pasta was just ok, the short rib was really good! Overall there were some hits and misses but I could not get around the price to portion size, I know this is NYC and that's not atypical but for a standing room bar and not a sit down dinner place I would just expect a little more for my money. Overall with the bill we received at the end we could have gone to any number of upscale places in NYC and spent about the same so I couldn't help walking out feeling a little. . .confused. This is for experience and drinks ONLY. Found this place via Yelp; even though it's only 10 reviews but I still want to give it a shot. Came here after dinner around late night, didn't realize this was the bar across the street (looks more like a cafe)... I step in to find the place extremely narrow and small (it seemed small on Yelp but I didn't realize it was THIS small). And secondly, there are no seats...you'll have to stand so me and my friend thought we were just gonna hang around for 1 drink. HOWEVER.... the staff is AMAZING. So friendly...just like your neighbourhood bar people. doesn't give you the dirty look even though they are really close to closing time. The pricing on the drinks are not that bad but the selection is a bit too small (mostly wine, not too much cocktail). But then again... with a small kitchen space, they have a really nice selection of Italian food. Pricing for the food is very decent too (Creme Brulee is $4, side of fries is $4 as well). We ended up having 3 drinks each. When the bill came, even one of the guys went wow, you guys drank. I am definitely going to come back for food to update the review but so far so good...hip, casual wonderful people, opens late....what's not to like!? read more

Cute, casual wine bar for a quick drink, date, or conversation. What a novel idea. This place is a small wine bar...literally, a wine bar. There are *no* seats here but it really adds to the charm. At most, I could imagine this small eatery could fit about 20 folks. That said, it works! Find a spot, hang your bag and jacket, and order a glass. Staff are great at recommending wines and letting you get a taste before you order a full glass (wine by the glass was around $10, so not that bad). Aside from their wine selection, they have a quaint food menu. I had their pasta and a friend had their beet sandwich. We both enjoyed our selections! How much I love this little standing bar! Let me count the ways: Initially, it was the $5 happy hour wine that sounded alluring. The selection is ample and eminently palatable. Then, the diverse menu of small Japanese-inspired dishes increased the appeal. Stopped in for dinner and a few drinks with a friend. The food is pretty good, but nothing really stood out. As far as tapas type places go it's reasonably priced and the atmosphere is cute with the super narrow standing room only setup. I had two crostini, white anchovy & crab, and the skirt steak sandwich, and my friend had a margherita pizzetta and the shrimp sandwich. Of all those, I'd say the skirt steak sandwich was the best and I would avoid the pizzetta. I live close by so will probably be back for a drink or snack, but this is definitely not a destination place if you aren't already in the area. read more

What a late night gem! Found this spot after a concert and it did not disappoint. We weren't in the mood for fast food or a diner. Small and intimate. Plates were flavorful and unique. Excellent food!!..The setting of the bar is pretty cool...you have to stand eating..there are no chairs for you to sit...and it is a pretty tiny place/bar....it is a intimate environment..the service is great b/c the place is small enough that u have a person/server in front of at all time....the portion is pretty small as it is a tapas bar so expect to over more than 1 dish per person..the price is reasonable..the food is really fresh and tasty.. We had total of 4 people and we ordered a lot of dishes..i would say all the dishes are great!!..and the sangria were great!...i highly recommend the dish with octopus risotto (daily special)...the octopus was so delicious as the the octopus is so fresh..soft...and the seasoning with its overall dish is soooo good!!!..risotto was cooked just right.. Warning if you could not tell from the photos of the business or their website homepage - there is absolutely no seating so do not come here for a drink or otherwise if you are looking to rest your feet while you do so. That being said, if you can get past that, their happy hour is a must - several drink options for $5. Not too frequently can you have three glasses of rose for $15 in NYC. The small plates they have to accompany their drinks during happy hour are great, too and reasonably priced. We got the fusilli pasta. The service was friendly and quick. Only warning is that this is a TINY place...yes, even for NYC, so don't recommend going here with more than one other person.
