Had a FANTASTIC meal here!!!! We love Bludorn so we were looking forward to trying out this new addition. Parking situation isn't the best. It's either street parking which is limited or $8 for valet parking. We had Maurice as our server and he was great! Super attentive and was so friendly as well. The ambiance was super cute. We started off with the country ham beignets which were very good. For our entrees, we got the duck and the fried chicken. The duck was some of the best we've ever had. It was so tender and cooked perfectly and the skin was extra crispy. It was served with charred yams and mango and man, chef's kiss! That char really made a world of difference. The fried chicken was very good!!! Chicken was super tender and the crunch on the outside was perfect. We weren't crazy about the sauces the chicken was served with (PB gravy, some jam, and chili oil). Maurice brought out some bludorn hot sauce and that hit the spot!! We would have also been happy with plain ketchup lol the fried chicken was served with mashed potatoes and collard greens which complimented the chicken very well. For dessert, we'd recommend the chocolate cake. Really good with the salted caramel and ice cream. We had ordered the matcha tiramisu dessert but it was not good. Wouldn't recommend that dessert. The server was nice and brought food in a timely manner, but the food quality is where it gets a little sticky. Three people of my party decided to get the special 40oz ribeye, the wait would be 45 minutes for the steak. My sister and I decided to split the $71 NY Strip. My sister and I started with splitting the $13 salad, it wasn't bad, it wasn't the best. It was lettuce, some parmesan, and some caesar dressing. When the 40oz ribeye was dropped off, a manager came a little afterwards to tell us the other steak had been burned and another one would be coming out soon. The new steak was dropped off and we ordered it medium and we got a rare steak with no brown in the middle. We decided to let it go since we were hungry and just wanted to eat. Ultimately a little disappointed that they couldn't get our $71 steak correct. The whole atmosphere of the place is nice and it not loud but it's not quiet. The servers are nice. Switching in for oysters at the bar. Raw oysters were small but delicious and the red sauce is unique ... not sure what they put in it but wow was it great. This was my first time dining here, and I discovered it after visiting one of their sister restaurants, Navy Blue. Despite being quite crowded for a Tuesday evening, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The wine selection was impressive, and the variety of cocktails available added a fun touch to the evening with friends. The food was absolutely delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed every dish I tried. It's definitely a place I'd love to revisit. Disappointing and a sort of mixed bag. I was very excited to try one of the Bludorn restaurants, but was not blown away. Apparently, my husband received some unwelcome judgy looks from the host stand and felt embarrassed. Outside of that, the service was spectacular with very attentive table service especially for being outside. The mojito was fabulous and refreshing. The steak tartare was confusing with piping hot potatoes and cold tartare. Naturally, horseradish in the tartare is fairly potent and not for the faint of heart. The burger was a massive disappointment. If you are an upscale restaurant, a wagyu patty does not elevate the dish to the 22$ level if you do not have amplifying accompaniments as well. Basically, it being wagyu doesn't mean anything, if it tastes like a normal burger. The duck had a wonderful flavor, but was lukewarm and the skin was rubbery. For the 60$ duck dish, the best part was the cheesy side dish. I love trying new restaurants and new experiences, but I am left with annoyance and horseradish. read more

My husband and I are a huge original bludorn fan so we wanted to try this new concept that bludorn put out - bar bludorn! The vibes inside are very similar to blu dorn but maybe slightly more casual. The decor is simple, dark woods, and beautiful mid century vibes with an open kitchen and bar in the front. The lychee martini is amazing! We started with raw and baked oysters which both were delicious. We also had steak tar tar which the crispy potatoes complimented really well with and was so good. The pea and fried goat cheese soup was pretty good as well. We all loveddd the Reuben app - aside from the oysters - this was my favorite. Since we went app heavy - my husband and I shared the shrimp maza gnocchi. This was rich and yummy! We shared a Parmesan risotto and tbh this was ok lol. Nothing crazy about this. We overall thought the food was good but not the level of bludorn amazing. The service was pretty attentive although at first we said we wanted regular still water (not expecting bottled) and they came out with bottled since the drink waiter talked in a hushed tone - we weren't sure if he offered regular filtered water as an option. Mid way - we told this to our actual waiter and she switched it. Also - she seemed to have forgotten for a bit that my husband ordered a beer but once we mentioned - it came out soon after. Was in the area for a volleyball tournament and decided to pop into Bar Bludorn. Fortunately the receptionist was able to fit us in. We were greeted by the manager, David, and we had a great conversation about restaurants as we waited for our drinks. My hubby and son had a pilsner beer and I had their Cosmo martini. It was superb. The service was honestly impeccable, the wait staff was at the table what seemed like every few minutes. Everything we ate was really high quality - the PEI oysters were fresh and the steak frites au poivre featured sauce that was rich and flavorful. Something I found neat: When you ask to have your leftovers boxed, they bag it in the kitchen and take the bag to the host stand and bring you a small keychain with a number on it that provides your food as you're stepping outside for the car. read more

We had a fabulous dinner at BAR Bludorn last night. Everything was delicious, our server Taylor was great and great vibe. I had the Cascara Old Fashioned which was perfect and together my husband had Snapper, Ora King Salmon, Apple Carrot Ginger Soup, side of mashed potatoes, Gem Lettuce Salad and the Basque Cheesecake, which is leaving the menu after this weekend, unfortunately, it was so good. If you get cold easily, like me (always the coldest person in the room), take a shawl or jacket as it was pretty frigid in there, even though the dining room was full of people. Came here for Houston Restaurant Week. I had the chilled corn soup which I thought was absolutely amazing. I just wish there was more of it because I enjoyed it so much. The flavor was amazing as was the presentation. The ricotta gnocchi was stellar. Definitely the best dish of the evening. The gnocchi was soft and fluffy and the sauce was superb. I usually don't care for desserts but I ended up getting the chocolate mousse. It was very tasty however it was far too sweet for me. I had a vodka soda and it was absolutely perfect. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and was friendly and professional. The restaurant layout was great. I really liked the bar area. I definitely plan to go back and sit in the bar and have a drink at some point. I do wish that there were more vegetarian options on the menu. Gluten free options would also be nice for those who are gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive. read more

I took me a while to write this review but I am still thinking about my visit to Bar Bludorn. Bar Bludorn is absolutely excellent. Everything is perfect, from Happy Hour to food to service. Our server Jeremy was outstanding. His level of care and service was a true art form. Everything was excellent delivered and explained well. For the food we had: -Country Ham Biegnets- I am still thinking about these. Perfectly baked Biegnets filled with a mustard seed ricotta with grilled country ham on top. I literally want to eat them 24/7 -East Coast Oysters- Not an oyster girlie but my friend loved them and they are $2 during happy hour. -Ceviche- the fish was perfect and the sauce had a bit of spice that wasn't overbearing and gave the dish a clean finish. -Roasted Duck- Perfectly cooked and served with a Foie Gras sauce. It was so decadent and delicious and I'm not usually a duck fan. -Pasta Carbonara- Honestly the best dish we had all night. The pasta was freshly made, perfectly al dente and served with large chunks of guanciale and peas. I could eat this dish every day and feel no pain. -Tavern Burger- Self explanatory but amazing and sometimes you just need a burger at a Boujee restaurant. Arrived for happy hour to enjoy some drinks and small bites, never once was greeted by bartenders. Green coat greeted us with bar menu took our order for drinks. Never once was a happy hour menu given to us. casually enjoyed our drinks, patiently waiting. Other guest arrived and were promptly greeted and served before we ever were asked for another round or anything else for that matter. (drinks were empty, multiple eye contact) As someone who's been in the service industry for 15 years I've never once experienced this lack of interest to serve us. To be perfectly honest we were the only people of color at the bar and I'd hate to throw the race card but it clearly felt we weren't welcome there. Really outstanding meal at Bludorn's little sister - Bar Bludorn. Same quality service, slightly more casual menu and surroundings, and same tasty food. My wife and I had a 5:15 reservation on a hot Saturday evening and were led to an excellent table with a great view of the open kitchen. Service like all the Bludorn concepts is a team effort with our server Desiree leading the effort but General Manager Cole and Wine Director Molly both stopped by to thank us for visiting the new concept. We started out with a couple of interesting martini's with both of enjoying the El Jardin Martini that had some mescal in it over the Hanami Martini which had Japanese Vodka and Gin. For an appetizer we had the Tuna Tostada - Excellent!! Lots of tuna and flavorful accompaniments with just the right spice level. We also shared the gem lettuce salad. While tasty, the dressing could have used a little more oomph. Probably won't order it on our next visit. After the salad we got the small portion of the Spaghetti Carbonara - my favorite bite of the night. A real interesting and flavorful take on carbonara. Highly recommend. For our mains, we decided to order items that we wouldn't likely order at Bludorn - The Burger and the Steak Frites. The burger was excellent. I was surprised that its architecture held together after my wife cut it in half, but it did. The Steak was a hanger steak which might have surpassed ribeye as my favorite cut in my old age. Cooked perfectly, great sauce, both of us though that maybe it didn't taste as "beefy" as some other hanger steaks we have had. Would still order again. For dessert we enjoyed the "Martellus" which is a chocolate cake with a chocolate tuile around it and vanilla ice cream with salted caramel syrup. The restaurant has a more casual vibe than its sister restaurant Bludorn, but the food is just as upscale (and just as $$$). -Appetizers: Our table tried a few appetizers, and my favorite was the English pea hummus--it had a surprisingly slightly spicy aftertaste. -Entree: I had the fried chicken, which was unique and tasty with a peanut butter sauce. I've never been to the original Bludorn, but I'm curious after going here. They describe BAR Bludorn as an upscale tavern, and it definitely hits the upscale description, but less so tavern. I felt like the meal was a little bit of a mixed bag. I had a drink that was cloying and medicinal--the ruby slipper. I found the Aperol to be a bit overpowering and the overall drink unbalanced. My second drink, a glass of the Cremant d'Alsace, was much better. Onto the food, the savory beignets were delicious and very popular. For my main course, I had the burger. It was a great burger and I enjoyed the fries as well, This is definitely a place where you need a reservation. I showed up before they opened and the place was already packed--we barely got a table. They also told me they don't generally have space for walk-ins, so they will fully book reservations. There are a handful of street parking spots, but it's primarily valet, adding to the upscale vibe and high price point. I would come back but I'd try and split dishes with others to try more and keep the cost down. read more

So Hubster and I came here because it's in the neighborhood. (We wanted to check it out b/c it used to be where Jonathan's the Rub). So for our anniversary, we started here. For a bar, it's super small. 8 bar seats at the bar. 2 small round high tops w/2 chairs each. We walked in, go up to the bar and no room (of course, Sat. night; packed; standing room only). Before Hubster can go order our cocktails, a kid (early 20's?) came up and informed us that there's a waiting list to sit at the bar. WHAT?! Okay, we play along because we wanted a drink and some apps before moving to our next destination. So hubs goes up to the bar, just as a young couple sits down and orders their drinks. Next thing you know, kid goes up to them and tells them they have to move. The man politely stood his ground (about not moving). Kid goes and gets the manager. Manager was AWEFUL! Made the couple leave by telling them he is giving them a trespassing warning. The manager should be fired or placed on suspension for what he did and how he handled this situation. (And I'm not one to jump to that statement lightly). It was a situation I have never before seen. The woman was crying when they left. Now, let me tell you, there is absolutely NO signage ANYWHERE about having to check in with someone in order to sit at the bar. No one went up to the couple when they walked into the "bar" (loosely termed as it is not a true bar, even though it's the name). As we are watching and listening to this taking place, I am also looking at the food that comes out. Small portions at high prices that I sure hope it's worth it. (There were a few apps I was interested in trying out too). After watching the manager handle the couple in such a disrespectful way, we decided after our one cocktail that this is not an establishment we want to patronize. Ever. Again. This is the second time my wife and I ate here. We wanted to go to Taste of Texas to celebrate our kids' birthdays, but couldn't get in, so we chose this place. I noted that the last time we came, I had rated it three stars (on Resy). I have a lot of mixed feelings about this place. I noted that a number of my comments are consistent with some other reviews I read. First, my kids (30 and 31) and their spouses got a little attitude from teh host/ess when they arrived ahead of us. I had a reservation, but my daughter specifically mentioned feeling looked down upon. Not the way to start the evening. Second, the bread - so we didn't order appetizers but they did bring us some of their rolls and butter which were delicious. My son-in-law is a big guy and he wanted some more. We noted that someone at the table next to us was serving additional rolls with tongs from a tray he carried. We asked for more and someone said something about four rolls in an order (there were six of us). After a while, they bring a plate of four rolls. And we were charged for them. I wonder if the folks next to us were charged for the additional rolls they asked for. Frankly, its not the $7 we were charged for the rolls, its the principle of charging us for them at all. We spent a tidy sum on drinks and dinner, and they charge us for rolls which they first served as part of their service. As I write this, I cannot think of a single restaurant where, when bread was served complimentary, they charged you for more. Frankly, its pisses me off the more I think about it. We've eaten at three Michelin star restaurants (e.g. Eleven Madison Park) and spent twice as much on meals and never were charged for extra bread. The young adults ordered steaks. As my son pointed out, they should have known better when they said they only had two striploins left as he felt they got the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality of meat. He doubted the dry-aged claim. My son's knife simply wouldn't cut the meat. He had to ask for another knife. Really? And yes, this is a comment someone else had made in an earlier review. The high points - my wife and I ordered Palomas which where outstanding. Some of the kids liked the margarita and some didn't. The side dishes were the hit of the evening - the risotto, the zucchinni and shishito pepers (even though there were only four peppers in the dish!), and the creamed spinach were all great. The mashed potatos were ok. My wife and I had the little gem salads with chicken and fried oysters - both very good. My daughter in law ordered steak frittes - the fries were soggy!!! Really? The service was mixed - some folks were friendly and good. They removed bread plates at one point only to come back and put bread plates back? The place itself is quite nice. Nice furntiure and interior design. For the money, I expect to be wowed. I wasn't wowed. Its hard to justify spending $100/person (including tip) for an experience which I can only give three stars to. read more

It's behind the Goodie Mexican restaurant in Memorial so you might miss this tucked away gem. They have complimentary valet and reservations are recommended. I went in at 5 pm on a Saturday and I was sat without any problems. Service and ambience: The restaurant is relatively quiet and you have a great view of the open concept kitchen. You hear the faint hum of, "yes, chef". My server and staff were very welcoming and did serval check-ins to ensure everything was to my liking. The servers wore evergreen jackets with ties and the managers wore suits. Food and Drinks: I ordered the Ruby Red Spritzer which was refreshing and sweet on a summer afternoon. They do offer mocktails. As you wait to order, a server brings out complimentary fresh bread and butter. Wish the bread was hot. I ordered their baked oysters; they're herbaceous and had a hint of sweet bbq sauce. The best thing I had was the Country Ham Beignets which are filled with ricotta cheese and a tangy mustard. This was recommended by Tamika Trotter. It did not disappoint. Beignets were crusty, ham was sweet and salty and the tangy ricotta was "très bien". Price: My bill was $50. Expect a visit to run you $50-$100. Overall this place is very nice and would like to try it again with some friends. Complimentary valet parking available Service was good - multiple people checked in on us throughout the time there, and made sure we did had everything we needed. It was nice of the hostess to bring a few shawl for my daughters. Ambiance inside looked nice, but we sat on the patio. Food was ok for me, it wasnt bad, but it wasnt amazing. We had the fried chicken and the tavern burger. Chicken was crispy on the exterior, but it lacked seasoning. Tavern burger was good, thick patty, was juicy and fresh baked bread. The truffle parm risotto was a bit too milky - too much heavy whip I feel. Fries and mashed potatoes were good, one of the better mashed potatoes I've tried. Server did forget the truffle parm risotto, and when we asked about it, he said that he will check for us. My husband and I came for dinner on Saturday night. We were seated immediately upon arrival for our 7 pm reservation and were able to place cocktail orders right away. The dining room is quite large and was at capacity. It made for a lively atmosphere but it was so loud in the restaurant that it made it difficult for our server to hear and for us to hear each other. For dinner we started with the gazpacho and the duck gumbo. Both soups were outstanding. The gazpacho was light and fresh with super sharp flavors and the duck gumbo was incredible rich and lux. For our mains we ordered the pork chop, the carbonara and the mushroom side. The pork chop was good not great but the carbonara was disappointing. It seemed more cream based than egg yolk based to me and lacked flavor. I loved the mushrooms and would for sure get them again if I came back. Service throughout the evening was attentive and we enjoyed our date night but I imagine it would have been tough to have a conversation if we had been there with another couple. read more

Came here for a date night! I've been meaning to try this place because I really like Bluedorn. Parking is a little tight,-- we ended up valeting. The inside is very reminiscent of the original Bluedorn restaurant. Design seemed similar but it is a little smaller and more intimate in feeling. Service was quick and efficient. The menu is not as extensive as the restaurant but there were lots of interesting options. These are our highlights: Spaghetti carbonara: so beautiful as a dish. We opted for the app size and it was still pretty filling. So savory and just stunning to look at. Steak frites: we asked for this medium rare and honestly it's probably the best steak frites I've ever had. The meat was tender and so flavorful and the frites were crisped to perfection. Tostada: not the easiest shareable dish but the taste was super refreshing. I wish they did this as chips where you can scoop the ceviche on top instead. I wouldn't recommend this dish to share but I would say it's super tasty and worth getting. Ham beignets: one of my favorites of the night! The beignets was so fluffy and tasty and with the ham on top, it's a winning combo. Wagyu Reuben: I personally didn't try this but my husband said it was super tasty. He only regretted that one small slice was pretty filling at the end of the meal. We also had a couple of cocktails as well which were super tasty. I've been twice and did not love the server on either occasion. But the food was great and the interior is cozy and beautiful. Standouts were the country ham beignets, carbonara, salmon, and the steak frites. The ceviche was just okay. Drinks were delicious - I enjoyed the Ruby Slipper and the Margarita. Its really busy and crowded place. Its very small, and everything is very narrow. If you are comfortable with that, maybe.

The food is good, but the potions are small. Had the 8 oz fillet mignon and it was average. I expected something magnificent for a small piece of steak priced at $75. My wife and I shared a small appetizer, then she had parpadelle pasta with ragú and I had the above mentioned steak. We shared a dessert which was very good but minuscule. I drank Diet Coke. My wife hat a flat and mediocre French 75 cocktail and we ended up paying $180. We just came from Milan, Italy and in a 5 star restaurant we would have paid for meal like that €60 ($64) service fee included as is customary in Europe. The service was good and the local is nice, but the experience does not justify the price. I predict that this restaurant will not last long. read more

The drinks were really good and very different from anything I've had before. I asked for something potent and they recommended the Sazerac which has absinthe. It did not disappoint. No reason to have fishy not crisp skin on a whitefish that wasn't seasoned and overcooked. $41 fried chicken wasn't brined or seasoned with lackluster dipping sauces of sweet BBQ, chili sauce and a peanut sauce that would've been appropriate for a Vietnamese spring roll. King salmon was average. Shrimp and calamari appetizer was way overcooked. Appetizer ribs were wrong cut and unexciting. Houston eaters are sophisticated. I don't see this place making it long term without a new head chef. We won't go back. read more

I ate here for HRW with friends. We each had the shrimp tartine. This was interesting. It was boiled shrimp with tomato Jam, saffron aioli, pickled fennel on little toasted bread. I didn't think it was that exciting, so I wouldn't get it again. For the entree, one of us had ricotta gnocchi with basil, summer squash, parmesan. Two of us had pork loin with pomme puree, Swiss chard, and bacon vinaigrette. Both dishes were excellent. For dessert we had blueberry cake with creme fraiche, and lemon curd, a chocolate mousse cake with miso caramel and a flourless biscuit (a dense chocolate cake), and an assortment of ice cream (coconut, sweet corn, and dreamsicle). My friends didn't like the corn ice crem, but I did. My friends loved the coconut. The dreamsicle was OK. The lemon cake was OK. We loved the chocolate cake. The service was good. read more

Bludorn's second restaurant lives up to all of the hype! Not only was the food absolutely delicious but the service was excellent as well. The vibe is intimate and very nice for a date night. The complimentary bread was fluffy, the ham beignets were great and the spaghetti carbonara was amazing. The Copacabana cocktail was so good as well! Highly recommend. Get your reservation with a lot of anticipation as they are very booked up. The parking lot is valet only but there is street parking. read more

Salad and homemade rolls were great. Entrees not so much. Lamb pappardelle was citrusy and spicy hot. Those seasonings weren't described on the menu, so they weren't expected, and didn't taste good. Parking lot was totally taken up with valet spots. Dumb and annoying. read more

I tried BAR Bludorn with my friends for my birthday. The food was great -- I especially liked the steak frites and the porchetta. My friends and I split these dishes and several appetizers, which is fairly common at the restaurant. It's a bit pricey, but it matches the quality. The service was excellent, and a sommelier helped us choose a wine. The ambiance is fairly casual, although the restaurant is a bit loud. FYI, there is forced valet. read more
